Nairaland / General / Is Ayra Starr’s New Song The Gay Anthem We Didn’t Know We Needed? by nspodcast1: 4:52pm On Apr 19, 2023
Nigerian music sensation Arya Starr together with British singer/rapper Darkoo has released a powerful new song with an important message.
[img][/img]

For all the right reasons, the lyrically positive and enthralling slow-burn afro-beat new track ‘Disturbing U’ seems to be gaining popularity among listeners, particularly in the LGBTQ community, who can relate to the song's overall message.

Arya Starr has gained widespread acclaim since her breakout hit "Away", with successive hits like "Bloody Samaritan", "Rush", and "Sability", and her debut album "19 and Dangerous" has cemented her status as a leading figure in afro-beats music. The self-proclaimed "Sabigirl" has won audiences over with her positive lyrics and unique sound, earning her numerous recognitions both locally and globally.

In her latest collaboration, Arya Starr has teamed up with UK-based Nigerian artist Darkoo to create a refined and mellow afro-beats sound, departing from the traditional dance music in Nigeria. Produced by Grammy award winner Dera, the result is a song that speaks to the challenges faced by young, creative, and thriving individuals, which can be likened to the situation for LGBTIQ+ people in Nigeria.

The LGBTQ community has long been subject to speculation, legislation, bullying, and intrusion by a mainstream homophobic society. The song's chorus asks the poignant question, "Why is my happiness disturbing you?", which could as well, relatably capture the desire for queer people to live their lives without interference or intrusion.

This unnecessary obsession with the LGBTIQ+ community is hinged on a deep-seated curiosity towards queer lives that sometimes easily metamorphose into dangerous insecurity, breeding malicious intention to cause harm to the LGBTQ community.

Arya Starr’s new song seems to perfectly speak directly to address most of these issues. For example, the chorus of the track is packed with a powerful yet simple and clear message of live and let’s live.

Why is my happiness disturbing you? The singer echoes in the chorus.

This is paramount to the gay community in that LGBT people just want to be left alone and not have their joy and private lives questioned much less interrogated.

Nairaland / General / ‘I Was Almost Burnt Alive,’ Nigerian Trans Woman Says by nspodcast1: 1:10pm On Jan 02, 2019
A Nigerian trans woman describes the perils of living in a society where trans people suffer discrimination, violence and even death.

By Mike Daemon

In Nigerian media, trans people have almost no visibility. The hardships and discrimination they face are unreported. The facts of their lives are misconstrued. Their stories are sensationalized.

To encourage a better understanding of what trans people go through, Ekombong, a 23-year-old Nigerian trans woman, shared her experiences with NoStringsNG.

Ekombong has endured all sorts of violence and abuse, including once being stripped naked, beaten, and almost burnt alive at a nightclub in Nigeria.

While growing up in the Akwa Ibom area, she was a very feminine boy and, as a result, did not really have friends, she said.

Seyi, a young Nigerian man has spoken to NoStringsNG on a podcast about why he came out as gay to his parents, and what followed after.

Despite the fact that the country condemns all forms of same-sex relationships and sexual activities between same gender loving persons, Seyi said he found the courage to speak to his parents about his sexual orientation after he saw the film ‘Prayers for Bobby’ an American film about a young boy who took his own life because of his mother’s homophobia.

On the podcast, Seyi said he struggled with internalized homophobia for so long and felt terrible hiding his sexual orientation from his parents and family, and thought telling them would help him get rid of his homosexual attractions, an attraction he considered “weird” at the time.

Seyi said after coming out, so many things changed for him, and at some point felt disconnected from his family.

Nairaland / General / John Okafor (mr. Ibu) In Nollywood Film Taking On Homophobia by nspodcast1: 8:05am On Mar 23, 2018
Nollywood comic actor John Okafor (well known for playing Mr. Ibu) is one of the stars in a new romantic movie that tackles homophobia.

Nollywood is far behind when it comes to authentic representations of LGBTIQ characters in its films. It is known for its biased, sensationalized and stereotypical approach to telling stories with LGBTIQ characters.

Okafor has spoken against homosexuality in the past. In 2012, he said gay actors were a “virus” in Nollywood. In 2016, he was quoted saying that homosexuals were taking over the Nigerian movie industry and “They are killing the industry.”

Okafor has appeared in more than 200 movies and is known as one of Nigeria’s most talented comic actors. His movies have included Mr. Ibu (2004), Mr. Ibu in London (2004), and Ibu in Prison (2006).

The new film, titled “The Eve,” was scheduled to be screened in Lagos on March 24 at the Day Dream Pool Club, Landmark Towers, Victoria Island. It will premiere nationwide just before Easter weekend (on Thursday, March 29).

An initiative of Cut24 Productions, the film is directed by rapper-turned-director Tosin Igho. It is about preparations for a supposedly happy couple’s wedding day. The young couple, Funsho and Yewande, have shockingly different personalities.

Just before the wedding, Funsho and his three childhood friends set out on a pre-wedding getaway and a bachelor’s night. Things quickly go awry, as events and revelations raise more questions than answers for the couple.

Nairaland / General / Nigeria Bans Their Love, But Same-sex Couples Persist by nspodcast1: 3:49pm On Feb 12, 2018
Same-sex couples in Nigeria find healthy relationships difficult to establish and sustain because of the country’s anti-gay laws and society’s hostility toward homosexuality. But some LG Nigerians who are giving it a try have told their stories to NoStringsNG:

Gay man plans to marry a woman

Bola, a 31-year old Nigerian gay man living in Lagos, is in a five-year relationship with his boyfriend. He says he is deeply in love with him but still plans to marry a woman because the country criminalizes same-sex marriage and because of pressure from his family. He said:

“I have been dating my boyfriend since February 2013. I am 31 years old now. I love my boyfriend because he is humble, intelligent, calm, and spiritual. We met at the church in November 2012 and started dating in February 2013.

“We have no real plans for the future because marriage is inevitable in Nigeria. We will just remain best of friends.”

Maintaining a same-sex relationship is “a battle,” he says because gay men are in a “spotlight.”

Linda, a lesbian, said she connected with her lover online and plans to marry her in Nigeria, even though Nigerian law forbids it. She said:

“My relationship with my girlfriend is a month old. I am 20. I love everything about her especially her flaws. We met on Facebook. I really wish/plan on walking down the aisle with her.”

32-year-old lesbian is scared to marry

Jennifer, a 32-year-old lesbian from Benin who is in a four-year relationship with her lover, said that she doesn’t have plans to marry her lover because she is afraid. She said:

“My girlfriend and I have been together for four years. She is everything God made her [to be]. We met on one of these social networks. For now, we have no [wedding] plans for the fear of our family and country, but we are really happy together.”

Nigerian law keeps gay lovers apart

Samson a 28-year old Nigerian gay man, has been in a six-month monogamous relationship with his boyfriend but has no plans to marry him because of Nigeria’s anti-gay law. He said;

Nairaland / General / Nollywood Gay Film Starts Well, Even Sex Scenes, But Then… by nspodcast1: 11:55am On Nov 14, 2017
A gay-themed Nollywood short film successfully portrays two men in a deep romantic relationship but, in the end, utterly fails to show the reality of what it means to be gay.

The 22-minute Nollywood film “Gay’s Diary Reloaded” is available online on YouTube from HumbleLand TV, a local Nollywood platform. Its actors are little known: Humble Dhera F, Amaka Smart, Ubi Onuomah, Ikeh Ejedike, Ifeanyi Sunday, Callista Iwu, John Damian, etc.

The film starts off showing two gay men who are in love with each other. It is obvious that the actors are amateurs, but they play those roles fairly well.

As is common with Nollywood films, video quality is fair and sound quality is poor. In certain scenes, you almost have to struggle to hear what the actors are saying.

From beginning to end, the storyline and the whole direction of the film are vague. Still, there are some very good scenes, especially when Judge, one of the lead characters, courageously challenges his uncle after being condemned for being gay.

Also, the sex scenes could have been presented better, but kudos for their efforts; it was more than what could have been expected.

The major concern with the film is that the ending is a disappointing cliché. It takes the same old religious twist: Nollywood always demonizes homosexuality and presents it as a problem and as curable.

Nairaland / General / New Nigerian Drama Series Actually Portrays Gay Love In Its Truest Form? by nspodcast1: 9:36pm On Jul 13, 2017
Amidst great hostility toward homosexuals, a new mainstream Nigerian web drama series dares to portray love between two men.

The drama which is titled ‘with or without’ was recently published on Youtube. It shows how two men in a homosexual relationship deeply love each other and find it difficult to hide what they feel.

As common with most Nigerian films, it was expected that the storyline will be thwarted from showing a positive portrayal of homosexuality, but so far, it seems to be heading in an unexpected direction.

Though the drama is far from perfect, it was in overall still very important that an attempt was made to put the reality of gay men on screen.

Also, the characters were mostly exaggerated and poorly acted. The actors don’t seem to have done a proper research about gay reality before portraying the characters on screen.

Nairaland / General / Video Proves Nigerians Accepted Trans Persons In The Past by nspodcast1: 7:49pm On May 25, 2017
A video documentary currently available on Youtube has shown that there were indeed visible trans people who were fully accepted within the Nigerian society.

Most people like to argue and claim that homosexuality and queerness is some sort of a plague brought in by colonialist to ‘corrupt’ the ‘African culture’. As evidently seen, this is completely untrue and inaccurate with well established facts backed up by history.

A post which appeared on Ynaija.com accurately described nothing but the truth, obviously making clear that it was even actually the colonialist who brought in homophobia to Africa.

Nairaland / General / Nigerian Humanist Leo Igwe Acknowledges That Gay Rights Are Human Rights by nspodcast1: 7:32am On Feb 14, 2017
Leo Igwe a Nigerian human rights activist and humanist have in his recent article kicked against the widespread notion that the rights of homosexuals are not human rights and that homosexuality is unAfrican.

“Many nations in Sub-Saharan Africa have moved to tighten laws against homosexuality. They presented gay sex as antithetical to the African essence, hence the statement that homosexuality is unAfrican” The article stated.

The article which appeared on the Observer, further revealed strong concerns pointing out that people mostly used their religion to discriminate against homosexuals.

“Too often religion, culture, and tradition have been used to legitimise hatred and discrimination against homosexuals. God, Allah and other constructs of this imaginary asexual entity have been invoked to sanctify opposition to the human rights of gay persons.

Igwe, questioned the legitimacy and authenticity of religious texts and the so-called ‘Holy Books’. Explaining that people should be aware that all available religious books today were written by human beings whose identities and intents have remained unknown up till date.

“Texts that were written by human beings centuries and millennia ago but which clerics and preachers, godmen and women, theologians and faithful scholars have refused to disclose their true authors and intent have been used to justify norms that are spiteful of human rights of women, children, and minorities.

He also encouraged the need for critical thinking especially in Africa where people are mostly misled by religious leaders with dubious motives.

“A process of change motivated by humanity and critical thinking has become urgent. Such a process is an imperative for sociocultural renewal and rebirth in Africa.

In conclusion, Igwe disclosed what he has been doing with the humanist movement in Nigeria, and its impact so far.

“And to this end, the humanist movement has convened meetings and conferences to highlight the dangers and destructive effects of superstitions and irrational beliefs. There have been gatherings where the challenges to eradicating Osu caste discrimination were discussed. Campaigns to raise awareness of ritual killing, witch persecution, and religious extremism have been organised. Marches and protests have been staged to mobilise and conscientise the public, and lobby politicians and lawmakers against homophobic laws, or policies that violate the reproductive rights of women. Petitions have been sent to local, state and regional governments in furtherance of policy change and revision.

“These efforts have yielded piecemeal developments, support for victims of caste discrimination, ritual killing, witch persecution and religious fanaticism. These developments still fall short of the revolutionary outcomes and changes which are expected when critical thinking, not dogma or blind faith, becomes the driving force and the defining canon of resistance, and the realisation of social change in Africa.

Nairaland / General / Nigerian Christian Pastor Lazarus Muoka Says All Homosexuals Are Sinners by nspodcast1: 1:16pm On Feb 12, 2017
Lazarus Muoka, a Nigerian pastor and founder of the christian church Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministries, on Sunday labeled all homosexuals as sinners.

The preacher who is among one of the many pastors milking money from gullible Nigerians made the statements while addressing a large crowd at an International Christian event which was tagged ‘From Sorrow to Joy”

At the event which took place at the Chosen Revival Ground, ljesha, Lagos, Muoka in a self righteous manner, condemned acts he considered to be immoral which included homosexuality.

“Or maybe you are involved in homosexuality, lesbianism or into kidnapping, murder, ritual, amend your ways. The bible says there’s no peace in the Lord with the wicked.

He also condemned taking on jobs at hotels, masturbation, selling and drinking of alcohol, smoking, etc and as well urging the people who were in attendance to embrace the Christian religion.

“Those who are experts in taking and giving bribes, or force money from people, that is sin. Or maybe you are involved in smuggling, smoking, alcoholic drinks, whether you are drinking it or selling to people or serving people, you must repent and not drink it, not sell it to people, not work in breweries and not work in any hotel where such things take place,” Muoka said.

The Christian event as usual, recorded a lot of unverified healing and miracles from strangers who claimed to have been completely healed from different illnesses, such as mental illness, deafness, body pains and paralysis amongst others.

Nigeria remains one of the most religious countries in Africa, as an increasing number of Nigerians flood churches regularly seeking for validation.

Nigerians claim to be either Christian or Muslim, but in reality hypocritically many hold on to different strange religions and faith.

Many Christian scholars and expert bible critics have several times explained that the bible has been misinterpreted by religious leaders to suit their selfish interests.

The issue of homosexuality within the Christian domain has remained very controversial, while many have come to the conclusion that defining and living with one’s own truth is the best possible way to stay positive in life.

In truth, the issue of sexuality and how people should express themselves remains personal, and when dealing with sensitive issues as that mentioned, caution is advised, and peoples human rights should as well be taken into serious consideration so that we do not cross the line.

Nairaland / General / Kenyan Gay Youth Now In Exile After Escaping Death At Home by nspodcast1: 10:54am On Feb 08, 2017
A 28 year old Kenya gay youth is now in hiding after his family tried to kill him because of his sexual orientation.

In a conversation with NoString, the young man (names withheld) said that he was almost killed by his family last December after they found out about his sexual orientation.

“I was almost killed by my family last December after discovering that am gay and had been putting pressure on me to marry” he said.

He said that the reason why they want him dead is mainly because their culture completely forbids homosexuality, and his family sees it as a disgrace for one to be gay.

“After severe beating and murder attempts on my life, I had to run away. Their plan is to stop me from shaming the family and dragging its name to what they have called ‘western demonic habits’. He said.

“Being gay is like a death sentence in my village” he added.

Nairaland / General / Petition: Stop Nigerian Comedian From Promoting Hate Crimes Against Gays by nspodcast1: 11:37am On Jan 19, 2017
Nigerian comedian, Ogunsbaba with real names Akpobome Ogude has released a video promoting and encouraging violent hate crimes against homosexuals.

The video, titled “The Lekki Gay,” depicts a gay man being visited by a friend whom he finds attractive but who brings along two other men to the bedroom to threaten him with sexual assault with a banana and increasingly larger vegetables. The video, featuring light-hearted background music, ends with the video going dark as the assault occurs.

In November 2016, the video skit appeared on YouTube, where it is attracting a lot of views. On Jan. 5, it was posted on the Facebook page of Gossip Mill Nigeria, where it has been seen more than 290,000 times.

The LGBT community in Nigeria is outraged and seriously concerned that this video will cause harm as it is clearly promoting and encouraging hate and violent acts toward homosexual persons in a country where homosexuals are misunderstood and deeply hated.

The scenario depicted in the video is a typical example of what gay persons actually experience on a regular basis in the country from homophobes, and Ogunsbaba seems to be making a joke of this very painful and traumatic experience.

The acts portrayed as a joke in the video is actually not a joke at all. This is a human right violation as according to the Nigerian constitution in chapter 4 section 34 which states that;

“Every individual is entitled to respect for the dignity of his person, and accordingly and no person shall be subject to torture or to inhuman or degrading treatment”

NoStrings has taken steps to first report the video to YouTube for actions to be taken, and encourages people who understand the damage that this video will cause to sexual minority persons in the country.

NoStrings has also initiated a petition against gossipMill.com and Akpobome Ogude AKA Ogunsbaba to both take the videos down from the platforms where they published it such as websites, blogs, and Youtube channels to stop its circulation and Ogunsbaba to particularly apologize to the Nigerian LGBT community for joking with a very sensitive issue of great concern.

INTRODUCTION

Following several surveys and captured reports, it is evidently clear that Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) persons battle with their lives every day, especially people in African countries where homosexuality is made illegal.

It is quite sad that even with so much work and education on the subject of homosexuality, a lot of people still deny or are rather ignorant of the fact that gay persons actually exist, while others do not agree that the rights of gay persons are not different from that of heterosexual persons and that sexual orientation cannot be changed or altered in anyway.

NoStringsNG.com – a media advocacy platform for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community in Nigeria will be making a short audio documentary which will feature and explore the everyday realities of three (3) LGB persons in Nigeria.

It is seeking for contributions from Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual (LGB) persons living in Nigeria, out of which three random persons with peculiar and authentic stories will be picked for the project.

WHAT IS THE PROCESS?

(Read the following below very carefully)

Persons can be anywhere WITHIN the country and participate provided they have a phone or recorder with a clear voice capturing feature.

After application, If you are chosen to participate, you will be contacted officially to confirm your interest, after which, a set of questions will be delivered to you to.

You will be expected to respond to this set of very few questions using a conversational tone, and then will be required to upload it using a secured link that will be provided for you on the website.

We strongly advise that participants do not introduce themselves with their real names or mention their actual location during audio recording, but may choose to do so at their own discretion. However, we will not be blamed or held responsible for doing otherwise in case of a backlash.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR PARTICIPANTS?

NoStrings appreciates your effort and interest to participate in the project, and so in compensation, will offer N3, 000.00 (three thousand naira) to each participant AFTER their recordings have been successfully sent and ACCEPTED to be used.

Religion / Re: Shocking Revelation: Same-sex Marriage Was A Christian Rite! by nspodcast1: 1:52pm On Jan 01, 2017
I agree with you completely!
Religion / Shocking Revelation: Same-sex Marriage Was A Christian Rite! by nspodcast1: 1:48pm On Jan 01, 2017
A Kiev art museum contains a curious icon from St. Catherine’s Monastery on Mt. Sinai in Israel. It shows two robed Christian saints. Between them is a traditional Roman ‘pronubus’ (a best man), overseeing a wedding. The pronubus is Christ. The married couple is both men.

Is the icon suggesting that a gay “wedding” is being sanctified by Christ himself? The idea seems shocking. But the full answer comes from other early Christian sources about the two men featured in the icon, St. Sergius and St. Bacchus,2 two Roman soldiers who were Christian martyrs. These two officers in the Roman army incurred the anger of Emperor Maximian when they were exposed as ‘secret Christians’ by refusing to enter a pagan temple. Both were sent to Syria circa 303 CE where Bacchus is thought to have died while being flogged. Sergius survived torture but was later beheaded. Legend says that Bacchus appeared to the dying Sergius as an angel, telling him to be brave because they would soon be reunited in heaven.

While the pairing of saints, particularly in the early Christian church, was not unusual, the association of these two men was regarded as particularly intimate. Severus, the Patriarch of Antioch (512 – 518 CE) explained that, “we should not separate in speech they [Sergius and Bacchus] who were joined in life“. This is not a case of simple “adelphopoiia.” In the definitive 10th century account of their lives, St. Sergius is openly celebrated as the “sweet companion and lover” of St. Bacchus. Sergius and Bacchus’s close relationship has led many modern scholars to believe they were lovers. But the most compelling evidence for this view is that the oldest text of their martyrology, written in New Testament Greek describes them as “erastai,” or “lovers”. In other words, they were a male homosexual couple. Their orientation and relationship was not only acknowledged, but it was fully accepted and celebrated by the early Christian church, which was far more tolerant than it is today.

Contrary to myth, Christianity’s concept of marriage has not been set in stone since the days of Christ, but has constantly evolved as a concept and ritual.

Prof. John Boswell3, the late Chairman of Yale University’s history department, discovered that in addition to heterosexual marriage ceremonies in ancient Christian church liturgical documents, there were also ceremonies called the “Office of Same-Sex Union” (10th and 11th century), and the “Order for Uniting Two Men” (11th and 12th century).

These church rites had all the symbols of a heterosexual marriage: the whole community gathered in a church, a blessing of the couple before the altar was conducted with their right hands joined, holy vows were exchanged, a priest officiatied in the taking of the Eucharist and a wedding feast for the guests was celebrated afterwards. These elements all appear in contemporary illustrations of the holy union of the Byzantine Warrior-Emperor, Basil the First (867-886 CE) and his companion John.

Such same gender Christian sanctified unions also took place in Ireland in the late 12th and early 13th centuries, as the chronicler Gerald of Wales (‘Geraldus Cambrensis’) recorded.

Same-sex unions in pre-modern Europe list in great detail some same gender ceremonies found in ancient church liturgical documents. One Greek 13th century rite, “Order for Solemn Same-Sex Union”, invoked St. Serge and St. Bacchus, and called on God to “vouchsafe unto these, Thy servants [N and N], the grace to love one another and to abide without hate and not be the cause of scandal all the days of their lives, with the help of the Holy Mother of God, and all Thy saints”. The ceremony concludes: “And they shall kiss the Holy Gospel and each other, and it shall be concluded”.

Literature / Nigerian Author Highlights Gay Characters In New Novel by nspodcast1: 3:33pm On Nov 06, 2016
A new novel by a prolific young Nigerian author features gay characters, which could help increase the visibility of the gay community and possibly lead to greater understanding of LGBT Nigerians.

The book, “Sex and Lagos City” by Success Akpojotor, is an erotic novel set in the Lagos metropolis. It is only available in electronic format.

In a podcast interview session with NoStrings, Akpojotor, who is a graduate of the University of Benin said, “The reception of the book has been phenomenal, and I will say that Nigerians and Chinese are [its] largest consumers.”

“Sex and Lagos City” has been warmly received by many LGBT people in Nigeria who have been waiting for mainstream LGBT-friendly literature that is close to home.

Some authors feature gay elements in their work to promote sales, but Akojotor denied that he is doing that.

“My intention is to appeal to a global audience and to account for the different sexual orientations present in Africa, so it’s not about sales or money; it is a literary work of art,” he said.

“Sex and Lagos City” is promoted online with this teasing description: “Warning: This book may quench your fire. Set in the Lagos Metropolis are distinct personages tapering to one twisting end. CAUTION! CAUTION! CAUTION!”

The book features characters with different sexual orientations. Akpojotor said he is not promoting homosexuality.

“I am simply mirroring sex in the city of Lagos,” he said.

The writer also said that the book became one of the most downloaded books within 48 hours of its release on okadabooks.com – an online platform for Nigerian books.

Akpojotor is a prolific author, most of whose books have only been published electronically.

Nairaland / General / “they Are After My Life Because Am Gay” – Nigerian Man Seeks Help by nspodcast1: 5:05pm On Oct 22, 2016
Temple*, a Nigerian man has opened up to NoStrings about how thugs have been sent to kill him because he is gay.

The young man, who is now hiding in fear and currently living on the street, revealed to NoStrings in a conversation, that his family is behind the whole thing.

“They want to see me dead, they think am evil, and they are particularly worried that I will spoil the family name with my homosexuality” he told NoStrings.

Temple whose mother is late, said that his life took a new turn since his family came to discover that he is gay.

“It started when my family brought a woman for me to marry, and after some serious and heated arguments, I couldn’t help but come out to them that I am gay. They couldn’t take this, as they pressured that I must marry this strange woman of which I refused.

Temple’s ignorant family could not take it, as they are of the erroneous opinion that homosexuality is bad, evil and can be cured, so they decided to take him to see a doctor who after several failed attempts at curing him, and for whatever reasons, suggested that he be forced to get tested for HIV.

“My family took me to.... continue here >> http://nostringsng.com/nigerian-gay-man-seeks-help/

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Nigerians, suffer serious discrimination in the country. Some even become victims of hate crimes, while some of the very unlucky ones lose their lives in the hands of mobs who often take laws into their own hands.

Some young LGBT persons in the country, end up on the streets when their families find out about their sexual orientation.

Even in the face of serious challenges, the LGBT community in Nigeria is thriving. A large number of LGBT persons in the country is very positive and hopeful that things will get better, and look to a future where LGBT voices will be heard and respected in the country.

Nigeria’s Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act of 2014 provides for prison sentences of up to:

14 years for entering into a same-sex marriage.
10 years for attending a same-sex wedding.
10 years for a “public show of same-sex amorous relationship.”
10 years for belonging to any “gay organization,” whether it is seeking recognition of human rights for LGBT people, meeting the spiritual needs of LGBT people, or providing health care for LGBT people.

Celebrities / Re: Freeze, Nigerian Radio Personality, Claims Transgender People Are Sick by nspodcast1: 9:22pm On Aug 22, 2016
newsphase:
They are not sick.. they are a different type of people... to me they are a special kind of people... The only thing that is wrong with them is that they have a limited view of life of things... They view does not transcend into the future...

When you have come to feel what someone has felt, you will understand why they felt that no matter how weird it is... To me transgender people are not sick... they are either limited in view or far spent... an example is Bruce Jenner, he has all he want in life, nothing more to achieve or lose.. he has spent his life to the end, and he decides to add a spark of fun and a new beginning to it by being a transgender...

Its like starting your life afresh without planning for 10 - 20 years ahead (that is what I meant by limited view)

Stay Healthy, Stay Wise
Thank you for your fresh air of positivity.
Celebrities / Freeze, Nigerian Radio Personality, Claims Transgender People Are Sick by nspodcast1: 10:48am On Aug 22, 2016
Controversial Nigerian radio personality Freeze, with real names Ifedayo Olarinde, claims that transgender people are sick and therefore needs psychiatric evaluation.

Freeze, in his nonsensical statement, which clearly shows that he has been reading way too much of religious materials, and as a result, not in touch with the times, claimed that transgender people have no right to be themselves, because according to what he thinks, the Christian God, does not permit them to.

“When did humans start playing God? Until proven beyond reasonable doubt that the creator of the universe occasionally inserts female chromosomes and genes into some twisted minded male body to create sensation, until biblically or quranically proven: don’t sell your soul to the media and their half baked story”

He continued with his pointless rants, and went further to describe American trans woman Caitlyn Jenner, as nothing but a science project.

“It took #Brucejenner 65 freaking long years to finally evolve into a cosmetic enhanced science project? Damn! damn! damn!” he said.

He continued;

“And this bull butter broke the internet? Parents please hide your kids from Bruce Jenner; he is not a hero nor brave as aggressively portrayed by the secular media. What makes one a hero? Military men and women who sacrifice their lives everyday are true heroes. Doctors and nurses save lives every day and put their lives on the line, they are true definition of heroes. Teachers who are less paid in the society impact knowledge to students; they are the unsung heroes”

In between his rants, Freeze all of a sudden, turned into one of those self righteous religious bigots, and referenced a passage in the Christian scripture to support his weak claims that Caitlyn Jenner is medically sick, demon possessed, confused and on a self destruct mission for living his true nature as a Trans woman. He said;

“A 65 year old father of ten wakes up one morning and decided to pull his penis behind his crotch, slaps two perky silicone on his chest wall, stretched his face with tons of Botox and cheek implants is not a true definition of heroism. I strongly believe Bruce Jenner needs a psychiatric evaluation and deliverance from his demons. In his quest to be relevant, he defiles God and recreated a rebel. He claimed he has discovered his authentic self, has he? 1 Corinthians 3:17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. Has Bruce Jenner defiled the temple of God? Absolutely without a doubt”

Clearly, Freeze needs to educate himself on what it truly means to be transsexual or transgender as the lack of education on these issues, narrows one’s perspective, breeds bigotry and ultimately gives birth to foolishness.

But, sadly, just like any individual who have been enslaved by their religion and the general stereotypical ideas of the society, will rather not dig, but instead, will choose to dwell in their comfort zones, as they are undoubtedly afraid to face the truth.

And that truth remains that, transgender people do not choose to be who they are; they are who they are, and countless research studies have proven this with hard and concrete facts.

Nairaland / General / Nigerian School, Campaigns Against Homosexuality In Its School Magazine by nspodcast1: 6:31pm On Aug 19, 2016
A Nigerian secondary school in Jos called Airforce Military School, has published an article in its 2016 school magazine, condemning homosexuality.

The malicious and erroneous article was published in its school magazine called ‘Junior Airman’.

The article is seen to have been written by one Mohammed Ishaku Mohhamed, who appears to be an SS1 science student of the school.

The so called senior science student proved from his article that he knows absolutely nothing about science or biology, which unfortunately makes him incompetent to write on the subject of homosexuality as a sexual orientation.

Reading through the disgusting article, one would come to discover that the claims expressed in it have no scientific proof whatsoever, and that the young man obviously, did not even bother to conduct any form of research on the subject before embarking on his writing project. This however proves that the information provided in the article lacks merit, is inaccurate, malicious and should be very much expected to cause harm.

It is even shocking to know, that the school authority will allow the publication of a baseless and unnecessary article without bothering to scrutinize and moderate its contents.

Exposing especially young people to materials like these does not only leave them half baked and ill informed, but will contribute to their confusion, and does not in any way, accurately answer some of the many questions that they may have about their sexuality, as off course however we try to deny the very existing reality, young people are curious and do have questions that needs to be answered.

Imagine the number of students that will read this article and feel threatened, believing that God hates them because they are different, and that worms will eat up their anus if they have sex with someone of the same gender.

The article which is supposed to educate and inform, fails woefully as it only presents homosexuality as a disease, a sin, a problem, but ultimately failed to provide a preferred solution to what it labeled a ‘problem’.

How about issues bothering on safe sex, consent, health issues such as HIV and other STI’s, depression, and bullying at school?

Seriously, It’s time we deal with our bigotry and challenge the real issues at hand.

Nairaland / General / VIDEO: African Trans Woman, Assaulted And Stripped Unclad by nspodcast1: 9:09am On Aug 10, 2016
NoStrings recently came across a video of an African trans woman who appeared to have been forcefully brought from somewhere by some people to a place which seems like a police station, where she faced harassment.

In the video that you are about to see below, the people present with the trans woman, were questioning, harassing and assaulting her.

The language spoken in the video is unknown to us here at NoStrings, but we are very sure, the people in the video are Africans.

In the video she appeared really strong and well behaved even though she was unsettled. She tried really hard to take it all in.

At some point the people who had her, began to talk about detaining and arresting her, and then forcefully pulled her naked, probably to check if she is male or female. They were touching her genitals shouting and mocking her, asking her to open up her legs so they can see whatever it is that they were looking for clearly. “Release it, must you leave it?, open it, remove it” the poeople shouted at her.

The trans woman on the other hand, looked..... follow this link to read more and watch the video: http://www.nostringsng.com
