HE’S GOT YOU COVERED

Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations (Jeremiah 1:5).

There’re those who are hesitant to let God have His way in their lives. They think He’ll change their “lofty” dreams and ambitions. They’ve painted the picture of what they want in life and the direction they want to go, and they think if they let God have His way, He may change their destiny and lead them to become something they don’t want to be. That’s a terrible mistake.

The Lord knows better and loves you more than you love yourself. Therefore, trust Him with your life. He’s more ambitious for your success than you could ever be. All He’s ever wanted is the best for you. What joy thrilled my soul when I discovered that the Lord was more ambitious for my success than I could ever be, and that He loved and cared for me more than I could ever imagine! He created the whole world and He knows everything about me and about my future. Therefore, it was easy to trust Him and follow the path that He’s prepared for me.

Every so often, I’d say, “Lord, you know exactly what to do with someone like me. You’re experienced in dealing with all kinds of people, so you know exactly what to do with my life.” When you’re conscious of this, you’d become bold, sharp, focused and unafraid; you’d know that your future is secure in Him.

Nothing could be more fulfilling and gratifying than knowing and following God’s plan for your life. Stop holding on to some dream, idea or aspirations that aren’t in line with God’s purpose for your life. He’s got you covered; so, let Him guide you.

CONFESSION
Dear Father, I live for you alone, every step that I take and move that I make are towards fulfilling your purpose for my life. I was born to bring you glory and honour. Thank you for setting me on the path that I must follow; I live in divine destiny, in the centre of your will, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

THE CHURCH IS THE BODY OF CHRIST

For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones (Ephesians 5:30).

There’re some who see the Church as a Gentile nation that got some “second-class” salvation from God. Those who hold such erroneous beliefs about the Church don’t understand the mystery of the Church.

The reason some people don’t understand the Gospel of Jesus Christ about the Church is that the Old Testament, which is what they hold on to, doesn’t explain the revelation of the Church. It was a mystery; it wasn’t revealed to the Old Testament prophets. So, the experts in Judaism don’t know anything about the Church, even though the prophets testified of salvation of Gentiles. To learn about the Church, you’d have to study from the gospels (from the words of Jesus Himself) and then into the epistles where the revelation of the Church as the Body of Christ was unveiled.

Ephesians 2:16-17 says, “And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.” In other words, God preached peace and reconciliation to both the Jews and the Gentiles and brought them together in one body called the Church! It’s a new body made up of people from among the two groups: Jews and Gentiles. However, to be in this body, you must be born again, whether you’re a Jew or you’re a Gentile.

Neither of the two groups is inferior to the other. Our opening verse says, “For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.” It doesn’t get closer than that! The Church is His body. And when He said, “...I will build my church…” (Matthew 16:18), He was talking about the body of Christ, and that’s you and me, all our brothers and sisters around the world; we’re the expressions of His reality, of His fullness, His grace, glory, kingdom, power and personality. We’re His body! Glory to God!

CONFESSION
I’m a member of the body of Christ, the expression of His reality, His grace, glory, kingdom, power and personality! He’s my completeness. What an honour it is to be the expression of His fullness! I carry His life and divinity in me—spirit, soul and body—because I’m a member of His body, of His flesh, and of His bones! Praise God.

Politics / Nigeria Among Highest IDA Borrowers, Says World Bank by nurabela: 1:17am On Aug 13, 2021
Sami Tunji
13 August 2021
The World Bank has stated that Nigeria is among the top 10 International Development Association borrowers.

The bank stated in clarification to PUNCH story which had stated that Nigeria and nine other nations had been listed among high-debt risk nations.

In a statement made available to our correspondent by Senior External Affairs Officer- Nigeria (Africa External Affairs), Mansir Nasir, the bank said

Nasir said, “We want to clarify that the report does mention nor identify Nigeria at high credit risk as incorrectly claimed by the article.

“Instead, it identifies Nigeria as one of the largest IDA borrowers as of June 30, 2021, and as such, it is one of the countries with the largest exposures to IDA funding.

“The confusion may have arisen from figure 12, which reflects only the country share in the total IDA portfolio, and not the credit risk.”

Our correspondent had reported based on the World Bank Fiscal Year 2021 audited financial statements, particularly the IDA financial statement, that Nigeria was among the list of top 10 countries with high-debt risk exposure.

The report stated that Nigeria was rated fifth on the list with $11.7bn IDA debt stock, while India led the list with $22bn IDA debt stock, followed by Bangladesh with $18.1bn IDA debt stock, Pakistan with $16.4bn IDA debt stock, and Vietnam with $14.1bn IDA debt stock.

Other countries on the list in order of appearance included Ethiopia with $11.2bn IDA debt stock, Kenya with $10.2bn IDA debt stock, Tanzania with $8.3bn IDA debt stock, Ghana with $5.6bn IDA debt stock, and Uganda with $4.4bn IDA debt stock.

The bank had stated, “Portfolio concentration risk, which arises when a small group of borrowing countries account for a large share of loans outstanding, is a key consideration for IDA. Concentration risk is managed through the SBL, which caps exposure to any single borrowing country at 25 percent of equity, in line with the basel-based maximum exposure limit.

“As of June 30, 2021, the 10 countries with the highest exposures accounted for 66 per cent of IDA’s total exposure IDA’s largest exposure to a single borrowing country, India, was $22 billion as of June 30, 2021.”

In another statement, the Debt Management Office said Nigeria was not a high-debt risk nation.

Business / Outrage As New Electricity Tariff Takes Effect by nurabela: 4:02am On Sep 02, 2020
Adewale Sanyaolu

Electricity consumers may be heading for a collision course with the Federal Government over its revised electricity tariff christened ‘Service Reflective Tariff’ which took effect yesterday.

The consumers had in the first five months of 2020 paid an estimated N236.5 billion for power consumed, an indication that the figure may rise in subsequent months with the latest tariff hike

But the new tariff regime has abolished the old billing system and introduced another one having new classes of tariff categorisation as approved by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

Under the old tariff regime, per kilowatt hour(Kwh) for residential consumers under Ikeja Electric was N21.80 but has now risen to N53.87 for same category under the new service reflective tariff and N66.42 per kwh for non -residential or Maximum Demand(MD consumers under Kaduna Electric. The plan, according to NERC was for the sector to gradually make a transition to a full cost-recovery market where cost of services provided will be fully recovered while services are also expected to improve within a very short time in the areas of customer service delivery, infrastructure upgrade, metering and technological solutions based on the level of investments that will be attracted going forward. Customers are now categorised into Maximum Demand customers (MD) and Non-Maximum Demand (Non-MD) customers, in place of the usual Residential, Commercial and Industrial customer classes. Under the new tariff, all customers have now been clustered into different bands depending on the level of service currently being enjoyed.

The new order directed the DisCos to bill customers in accordance to their classifications, adding that Nigerians who receive less than 12-hour supply of electricity will not be affected in the latest hike until service improves. “This order shall take effect from September 1, 2020 and shall cease to have an effect on the issuance of a new minor review order or an extraordinary tariff review order by the Commission,” NERC stated.

“The order reflects the impact of changes in macroeconomic parameters and revenue requirements and a revised tariff design that aligns rates paid by customers with the quality of services as measured by the average availability of power over a month period.

“Pursuant to the objective of incentivising a continuous improvement of service for all customers, there shall be no tariff reviews for customers experiencing an average power supply availability of less than 12 hours per day over a period of one month. “Unmetered customers within service bands A,B and C thus benefiting from a supply availability in excess of an average of 12 hours per day over a period of one month as affected by this tariff order shall be protected by the provision of order on capping of estimated bills in the NESI and federal government intervention on accelerated metering of all customers. “The Commission orders that you shall continue to maintain the lifeline tariff of N4 per kW for all customers consuming less than 50kw per hour of energy per month as a safeguard for the less privileged members of the society,” NERC added.

An Electricity Law expert at the University of Lagos, Prof Yemi Oke, slammed NERC over the introduction of the tariff, saying it was still an abuse of consumer rights and would not ultimately address the their concerns. Oke said cost reflective tariff does not give consumers the choice of flexibility and would in turn subject them to shortchange by the Discos. He said the ultimate solution lies in every consumer being metered to help regulate consumption in a way to suit their lifestyle. He equally faulted the methodology used by NERC in arriving at the current cost per kilowatt hour, saying the tariff is high.

Education / Reopening Varsities Now Suicidal, Social Distancing Impossible – ASUU by nurabela: 4:45am On Sep 01, 2020
Friday Olokor, Grace Edema and Daud Olatunji

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, on Monday, warned the Federal Government against reopening tertiary institutions without taking concrete steps to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Zones of the union said social distancing and other COVID-19 protocols were practically impossible in public tertiary institutions ,which were always overcrowded in the country.

They, therefore, warned that any attempt to reopen the institutions would not only be suicidal, but also worsen the spread of coronavirus.

Also, the National Vice –President of the union, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, in an interview with The PUNCH, called on the Federal Government to upgrade the education sector, if it wanted universities across the country to resume.

Recall that the Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba had, on August 22 said tertiary institutions shut in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic in March, would reopen “very soon.”

During a Nigerian Television Authority programme, Nwajiuba said the Federal Government was also working to end the strike embarked upon by ASUU.

But the National Vice–President, Osodeke, in the interview with The PUNCH, called on the Federal Government to upgrade the education sector, if it wanted universities across the country to resume.

Osodeke said that if government believed that the education sector was critical, it should meet the COVID-19 guidelines which it prepared for school reopening.

He maintained that a topnotch procedure was created at airports because the elite children needed to be kept safe while returning to school abroad, whereas other Nigerian children were asked to go back to campuses which were not COVID-19 complaint.

Because of elite children, govt ensured COVID-19 protocols at airports – ASUU vice-president

Osodeke stated, “If government believes that the education sector is critical, they should try and meet those rules. They met them for the airports, you are aware. If you get to an airport before you board a plane, there is a procedure you will pass through because the airport is for the elite. Their children are going back abroad for studies so the airports should be okay so that they can go back to school. Meanwhile, they want these children to go back to schools where there are no health facilities, no good accommodation; lecture theatres are so small for the students and you want them to go and have a high rate of infection.

“We expect the parents, students and our colleagues in the media to put it to the government that they have spent so much money on COVID-19 since it started, why can’t they spend money on the education sector and upgrade the facilities so that the children can go back to school? That is what we should be talking about.”

Osodeke said that he expected government to meet the rules it set for schools but was surprised at its refusal and the sudden call for resumption.

He stated, “It is not safe to return to school. The government set the rules for schools on what should happen before schools can reopen. Has the government met the rules? No, they have not. Do we have enough space where the students can keep social distancing? A room that is going to contain two students, we have between 10 and 20 students, will they change that? The lecture theatres too… Do they have improved medical facilities in case of an emergency. These are not there. We expect government to meet those rules before it thinks about reopening.

Also, the Lagos Zone of ASUU, during a press conference at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, said the Federal Government should be ready for any possible negative consequences if it reopened the institutions without putting necessary measures in place.

The zonal Coordinator of ASUU , Prof Olusiji Sowande, who addressed the press conference lamented that government made arrangements for special bailout for airline operators and other private individuals, but did not extend such to public universities.

He cautioned that it was not enough to have the students back on campuses, but that the atmosphere and conditions must also be right.

The coordinator said hostel accommodation was inadequate, adding that there were no facilities to ensure physical distancing in large and crowded classes.

He declared that years of neglect of both education and health sectors in the country had resulted in inadequate infrastructure and lack of well-equipped diagnostic, testing, treatment and research laboratories in both sectors.

Sowande said, “The response of the public universities to the call by the National University Commission for their readiness to reopen indicates that public universities are not ready.

“Hostel accommodation is inadequate; there are no facilities on ground to carry out physical distancing in large and crowded classes; water and electricity supplies are not reliable .

“Reopening tertiary institutions without taking concrete steps to address these issues will be suicidal. While government made arrangements for special bailout for airline operators and other private entities, no such arrangement was made for public universities.

“ Therefore, government should be ready to take responsibility for any possible negative consequences after reopening of universities.

“If government has faithfully implemented the 2012 Needs Assessment report which identified the intensity of the rot in education sector and tertiary education in particular, Nigerian public universities would have been more involved in COVID-19 testing and developing solutions through cutting edge research in well-equipped laboratories.”

Speaking on the ASUU strike, Sowande said the union had written to relevant government agencies with a view to finding steps to put an end to the industrial action.

He said, “It seems to us that some government officials are benefiting from the prevailing situation. We demand that the OAGF (Office of the Accountant General of the Federation) must immediately remit all illegally withheld dues and other third party deductions with accrued interests

On its part, the Abuja Zone of ASUU advised the Federal Government to strictly adhere to the guidelines of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control about COVID-19 before reopening public universities.

The Coordinator of the zone, comprising University of Abuja, Federal University of Lafia, Federal University of Technology, Minna; Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai and Nasarawa State University Keffi; Prof. Theophilus Lagi, stated this at a news conference in Abuja.

He said, “The union is not insensitive to the general clamour for the reopening of public universities in Nigeria in the midst of COVID-19 pandemic. We advise that this should happen only when the following actions have been taken by government: Government must as a matter of urgency implement the memorandum of agreement of February 7, 2019, signed with ASUU.

“They should adhere to the NCDC protocols of safeguarding the lives of students, lecturers and workers in the universities such as provision of the means of maintain social distancing in all hostels, classrooms, lecture theaters and auditorium in all the public universities in the country.

“There should be provision of hand sanitisers, temperature taking devices, face masks, running water and soap facilities for students and staff in the universities at all times. Provision of testing centres and isolation facilities in all public universities is also necessary.”

He said the ongoing strike by ASUU was to demand the release of the revitalisation fund, payment of arrears of the Earned Academic Allowance and constitution of visitation panels to public universities, among others.

According to him, the quest for the revitalisation of the university system and the welfare of ASUU members have always been on the front burner of the union’s struggle and cannot be compromised.

Lagi said, “We have pointed out to the government to expend more funds to upgrade existing universities to the world-class standard instead of the ongoing proliferation of universities by both state and federal governments.

“Government must as a matter of urgency implement the MoA of February 7 2019, which it signed with ASUU. This, we believe, if attended to, will upgrade these universities and address the impunity and corruption seen in the university system.”

Politics / Executive Orders Breed Dictatorship, Ekweremadu Warns by nurabela: 4:29am On Aug 27, 2020
By Sanni Onogu, Abuja
Former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu on Wednesday cautioned against executive legislation through Executive Orders. He said the practice could plunge the country into authoritarianism and possible dictatorship.

Ekweremadu’s position was contained in a paper he delivered at the ongoing 60th Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), in Abuja.

The paper was made available by his spokesman, Uche Anichukwu.

He said: “Democracy envisages the division of governmental powers into three different arms, each with distinct powers and responsibilities clearly provided for in a country’s ground norm.

“The philosophy behind this compartmentalisation of powers is the need to preserve the liberty of citizens and prevent abuse and tyranny by one arm of government over the other.

“Section 4 of the 1999 Constitution provides that the legislative powers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria shall be vested in the National Assembly.

Read Also: Why Buhari issues Executive Orders, by AGF Malami
“The National Assembly is empowered to exclusively legislate for the peace, order, and good government of the federation or any part of it with respect to any matter on the exclusive legislative list in the second schedule to the constitution.

“The only section in the Constitution that confers the executive with some form of quasi-lawmaking powers is section 315 of the Constitution, which provides that the President or the governor, as the case may be, may modify the text of an existing legislation, as he considers necessary or expedient, to bring such law into conformity with the provisions of the constitution.

Citing Executive Orders Six and 10 of the President Buhari’s administration as examples of overreaching executive orders, Ekweremadu reminded that much as the President had good intentions to get the governors to implement the constitution amendment granting financial autonomy to States’ House of Assembly and States Judiciary, Harvard professors, Steven Levitsky and Daniel Ziblatt, in their book, “How Democracies Die” had warned that the road to dictatorship is always paved with good intensions.

He said: “Part of that Executive Order, orders the impoundment of parts of monthly allocations of any state that fails to remit these monies to state judiciary and state legislature.

“This does not in any way represent what we amended in the Constitution. The Order is evidently contrary to the provisions of Section 162 of the 1999 Constitution as amended and the position of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in the case of Attorney-General of Abia State vs. Attorney-General of the Federation”, he said.

Ekweremadu called on the NBA and other public interest groups to act as gatekeepers by seeking the intervention of the courts at the earliest opportunity against any Executive Orders.

“They are to examine the steps taken by the council leading to the removal of the Vice-chancellor, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, and ascertain whether due process was followed as stipulated in the universities amendment act 2003, and the principle of fair hearing adhered to.

“To determine whether the process (if any) leading to the appointment of the acting Vice-chancellor for the university was consistent with the provisions of the enabling Act.

“ To make appropriate recommendations, including sanctions for all those found culpable by the special visitation team, on allegations contained in the report as well as other subsequent actions arising therefrom. And make any recommendations that will assist government to take decisions that will ensure peaceful, stable and effective administration of the university,” he said.

Adamu, however, urged stakeholders in the University of Lagos to fully cooperate with the panel and to allow it to work unhindered.

Politics / How 14 Assembly Members-elect Were Deceived — Obaseki Read More At: Https://www by nurabela: 3:23am On Aug 27, 2020
By Ozioruva Aliu BENIN CITY—EDO State Governor and candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, said, on Wednesday, that
the former National Chairman of All Progressives Congress, APC, Adams Oshiomhole, deceived the 12 members-elect of the state’s Assembly who refused to present themselves for the inauguration and two others whose seats were declared vacant, thereby denying their constituents representation. Governor Obaseki said this in Adolor Ward 4, Ekiadolor, Ovia North-East Local Government Area of the state, during his reelection campaign rally. Obaseki said the affected members-elect in their selfish pursuits and obedience to their godfather, betrayed the confidence reposed in them by their constituents after the House was proclaimed on June 17, 2019. ALSO READ: Edo 2020: In Benin, Oshiomhole commands magic every time His words: “The godfather deceived 14 members of Edo State House of Assembly and today they don’t have jobs. “Let me tell you what is going on in Ekiadolor; you may not know. About six years ago, they tried to play politics with you. “They decided to set up two universities, but we didn’t know it was one they wanted to set up. They used a cover, saying they are setting up two state universities. “They pretended they wanted to set up two universities and took all the money to build one and in three years; nothing was done here. “They stopped an existing College of Education and we didn’t have the university they promised us. No student was admitted.” On his part, Chairman of Edo PDP Campaign Council, Chief Dan Orbih, said: “In the eight years of Oshiomhole’s administration, Ekiadolor people were abandoned as the existing institution in the area was abandoned and a new one built in Iyamho. “Obaseki is paying attention to the existing institution that was neglected by Oshiomhole’s administration.” We’re the authentic assembly, says Edoror Reacting to Obaseki’s allegation that they were deceived into not being sworn in by Oshiomhole, Speaker of the 17 lawmakers, Mr. Victor Edoror, said they were not deceived, but fought for their rights. He also insisted that they remained the authentic House of Assembly. Edoror said: “All those are market talks. If the Attorney-General of the Federation, the number one law officer of the country, has written a letter about our inauguration and we have held our plenary and we have also sat to decide for the betterment of the state, this shows that we are recognised by law. “I have everything that is attached to my office. I have my security aides which the law allows me to have. “So, why would I be reacting to market people who are busybodies? We have no business with them. “We are undertaking our legislative job and everything is fine. Any other House of Assembly that is sitting is null and void. “We have the majority. As far as we are concerned we are the Assembly. We will wait for them before taking the next action.”

Romance / Lagos Pastor Defiles, Impregnates Two Sisters by nurabela: 2:53am On Aug 27, 2020
Oluwatosin Omojuyigbe

The Lagos State Police Command, on Wednesday, arraigned a pastor, Nduka Anyanwu, before the state Magistrates’ Court in Yaba for allegedly defiling and impregnating two sisters.

Anyanwu was alleged to have slept with the sisters, aged 17 and 13, on several occasions and impregnated them.

The suspect was arraigned on two counts bordering on defilement before Chief Magistrate A. Adedayo.

He pleaded guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Roman Unuigbe, told the court that Anyanwu committed the offences sometime in June 2020 at a church complex in the Oshodi area of the state under the pretext of praying for the victims.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the mother of the victims had tried to prevent the police from arresting the defendant on the grounds that he was a man of God.

According to Unuigbe, the offences contravene Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Following the defendant’s plea, Magistrate Adedayo ordered him to be remanded in custody and adjourned the case till September 15, 2020, for presentation of facts and sentencing.

Business / Shoprite Battles $10m Judgment Debt, Barred From Transferring Assets by nurabela: 4:52am On Aug 17, 2020
Oladimeji Ramon

THE Federal High Court in Lagos has made an order of mareva injunction stopping Shoprite Checkers (PTY) Limited from disposing of or transferring its assets out of jurisdiction over a $10m judgment debt.

Shoprite has announced its plan to exit Nigeria.

The mareva injunction made by Justice Mohammed Liman was in favour of a Nigerian firm, A.I.C. Limited, which in 2018, secured a $10m judgment against Shoprite in a breach of contract lawsuit.

According to court papers, the $10m judgment was entered in favour of A.I.C. Limited against Shoprite by Justice Lateef Lawal-Akapo of the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja.

Displeased with the judgment, Shoprite went on appeal but it equally lost at the Court of Appeal and has gone to the Supreme Court.

In the July 14, 2020 mareva injunction, a copy of which was obtained by our correspondent, Justice Liman restrained “the judgment debtor/1st respondent,” and its privies “from transferring, assigning, charging, disposing of its trademark, franchise and intellectual property in a manner that will alter, dissipate or remove these non-cash assets and other assets, including but not limited to trade receivables, trade payables, payment for purchase of merchandise, from within the jurisdiction of this honourable court.”

The judge also mandated the 2nd respondent, Retail Supermarket Nigeria Limited, “to disclose its audited financial statements for the years ending 2018 and 2019 to enable the judgment creditor/applicant determine the judgment debtor’s/respondent’s funds in its custody in order to preserve same in satisfaction of the judgment of the Court of Appeal in Appeal No: CA/L/288/2018.”

A.I.C. Limited had in 2012 sued Shoprite Checkers (PTY) Limited; and Retail Supermarket Nigeria Limited for alleged breach of contract.

The Nigerian firm said it was the one, who invited the South African retail supermarket operators to Nigeria and opened their eyes to business opportunities in the country, with a view that they would go into a joint venture.

The Nigerian firm, however, said after talks had reached an advanced stage and it had incorporated A.I.C.-Shoprite Nigeria Ltd. in the hope of a joint venture for establishment, Shoprite abandoned the agreement and went behind its back to set up its outfit in 2005.

Though Shoprite contended that it had no contract with the Nigerian firm, both the high court and the Court of Appeal said the series of exchanged correspondences between the parties confirmed that A.I.C Limited and Shoprite agreed to a joint venture.

Upholding the high court judgment, the Court of Appeal held, “There is evidence in the record that the 1st appellant allowed the respondent to search for a suitable site for the partnership project and to apply for a lease of land for the partnership project. These involved time, energy and money. The court below held that the conduct of the parties demonstrated intention to enter into a legal relation in respect of the partnership project. I agree.”

Crime / Police Nab Seven For Cloning SIM Cards To Empty Deceased’s Accounts by nurabela: 4:41am On Aug 17, 2020
Oluwatosin Omojuyigbe

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a syndicate that specialises in the cloning of Subscriber Identification Module cards of prominent deceased persons.

It was gathered that the gang leader, Osita Nwafor, alias Ossy, was arrested by the decoy team of the Rapid Response Squad at the gang’s hideout after a detailed analysis of its activities.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Nwafor’s apprehension led to the arrest of other members of the gang namely: Nwogu Chike, Anthony Odama, Ikechukwu Nkem, James Okonkwo, Adedio Paulinus and Olufemi Ogundepo.

Our correspondent learnt that the arrest of the suspects foiled the fraudulent transaction of N3m through a cloned SIM card.

According to a statement by the RRS, the suspects work with some bank workers in Nigeria and outside the country.

It was gathered that Chika was working on the transfer of $220,000 from a foreign bank, while Ogundepo was working on the transfer of N25m from an old generation bank in the country before they were arrested.

Nwafor stated that he recruited the gang members in 2019, adding that they worked independently.

He said, “Although I brought the team together, each member of the group has his area of specialisation. We look for potential victims and each member has his role on each of the cases.

“Once I have done my part of the deal by looking for SIMs and accounts numbers, I push them to whoever among the member has to play the next role and that is how we treat our cases and apart from this, each member of the gang also has his splinter group. Whenever they have personal jobs, they also handle on their own.

“Chike look for foreign and local accounts for money lodgements. I don’t know anything about how he does that, I simply hand over to Chike. He has his connections and they work on percentage and once they agree on the percentage when the money comes, everybody gets their cuts.

“We find obituaries of well to do members of the public, use bank insiders to determine the deceased’s account balance and clone their SIM cards for online transfers.”

PUNCH Metro learnt that one of the bank workers, who helped the suspects, was arrested in Lagos, while the other, who is based in Benin, Edo State, had been on the run after he knew that the gang had been busted by the police.

Our correspondent learnt that the suspects had been transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad for further investigation and prosecution.

Politics / You’re A Total Failure, Kano APC Chieftain Tells Buhari by nurabela: 9:15am On Aug 09, 2016
KANO— THE factional chairman of All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kano State, Hussaini Mairiga, yesterdaty came down hard on President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a total failure.

Mairiga, who spoke with journalists in Kano, said “from the looks of things, President Buhari has betrayed the confidence of the Nigerian masses who voted for him massively into power.” The factional chairman said it was not an exaggeration that members of many families in the country go to bed without at least one square meal, while others had fled their homes because they could no longer provide the basic needs of life for their loved ones. Mairiga, who is known for his bluntness, expressed worry that after one year of the Buhari administration in power, there was nothing to show while poverty in the country had reached an unprecedented level. He lamented that while a bag of rice now sold for N16, 000, prices of other essentials commodities had tripled. Mairiga noted with dismay that prices of goods were rising at a time the ordinary man did not have money to make a living. Another disturbing scenario, according to the factional APC chairman, was that those around the president, including his ministers, had refused to tell him the truth and advice on the reality on ground. He reminded Buhari of his campaign promises, stating that he did not like the way the masses were allowed to wallow in destitution and penury. He said Nigerians were in the worst condition that needed urgent attention. The APC chairman advised the President to stop deceiving Nigerians that the nation had no money whereas on monthly basis, the federal and states governments continued to enjoy a boost in their allocations.

Politics / The Niger Delta Avengers Household Is Intact by nurabela: 9:24pm On Aug 07, 2016
The thinking to lure the public to another lie of spirit in the Niger Delta Avengers is only the ways of a government agents and agencies with delusional disorder. This is result of a government and security agencies that are only becoming childish everyday for engaging drug addicts, bank robbers, sea pirates, falling political angels and charlatans to undo the Niger Delta people our genuine desire to self determination and resource control.
The public and all sane minds should know that the entire household of the Niger Delta Avengers remain intact, we are in good spirit with highest morals and even more dedicated toget the ultimate targets. We are not like the present Nigeria government, military and security agencies that have thrown intelligence to the dustbin and are being pushed around by dirty moral and egos of political thugs, criminals and illegal crude oil bunkerers like Boyloaf, Timipre Silva, Ayiri Emami, and their main collaborator Mr. Lawal Daura (DG DSS). It is quite unfortunate that, Cynthia Whyte and Jomo Gbomo of defunct Joint Revolutionary Council and MEND respectively are the spokesperson of the Nigerian intelligentsia community because of some political interest and a government that have abdicated powers to clansmen and tribal lords.
The fact checks about Cynthia Whyte AKA George Karley and his sponsors should be laid bare before the public now that the Nigerian security and intelligent community has turned the Niger Delta genuine struggle to a tool of political patronage and money making machine for miscreants and conflict merchants. The name Cynthai Whyte was the negotiation organ for Mr. Victor Ebikabowei Ben (Boyloaf), Former governor Timipre Silva and Sele Ebikabowei for settlements in kidnappings, bank robberies, illegal crude oil bunkering and dirty jobs for government. Like sending of Sele Ebikabowei to South Africa to testify against Henry Okah, back at home against Charles Okah and Edmund Ebiwari after collecting huge bribes. So we are not surprised for this so-called MEND speaking under Victor Ebikabowei Ben (Boyloaf) to introduce his complete house to collect more patronages in their desperation.
Conclusively, it tis the house of the Nigeria security and intelligentstia community that is having splits and giving room to miscreants to be speaking for them as president Muhammadu Buhari abdicate governance to his kinsmen and tribal lords. We warned the world and Nigerians earlier, especially the Barr. Odein Ajumogobias, the Judith Asunis and HRM, Majesty King Alfred Diette Spiffs to think before they leap with characters using a compromised platform called MEND that is sold and bought up by special interests of the Nigerian Security agencies that are working for this APC government of lies and deceits.

Politics / How Niger Delta Avengers, Others Acquire Detonators, Explosives by nurabela: 7:53pm On Aug 04, 2016
By Kingsley Omonobi-Abuja The National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Mongonu (rtd) on Thursday disclosed that explosives experts dispatched to conduct investigations into the incessant bombing attacks on oil facilities in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria have uncovered the diversion of about 9, 000kg of high explosives and 16, 420 pieces of detonators for illegal use. Mongonu made the startling revelation at a meeting with local manufacturers of fertilizers just as he read the riot act to two fertilizer companies, Notore Petrochemical and Indorama Eleme Petrochemical companies for allegedly shortchanging Nigerians by causing Fertilizer shortages, through the illegal exportation of the product outside the country. Throwing more light on the explosives and detonators in Abuja, a visibly worried NSA said, “The major actors, including the store man of a major explosives distribution company in Nigeria, an accomplice and five (5) security operatives have been arrested and handed over to appropriate authorities”. “Right now, investigations are being conducted and I can assure you that they are deeply culpable and necessary actions will be taken on conclusion of investigation. “Let me also reiterate that any individual or company that operates outside the confines of legitimacy or illegality will have itself to blame. We also want to add that the government of the day will not want to listen to any influence peddler in the society on behalf of any company that decides to sabotage National Security”. On the fertilizer scam, the NSA said, “Nigerians should recall the discovery that improvised explosive devices (IED) being employed by terrorists for their bombing campaigns were developed mainly from certain grades of fertilizers with particular reference to some nitrate based types including Urea Nitrate (synthesized from Urea). “Accordingly, it was discovered that the indiscriminate importation of these items by all and sundry resulted into lack of control and it eased their availability to mischievous elements for use to perpetrate insecurity. This indiscriminate importation further reduced the prospects for the local manufacture of these materials and by extension, the loss of foreign exchange to avoidable imports. This ultimately culminated into the ban on importation of fertilizers to the country”. “In keeping with the commitment of the federal government to boosting national economy, Notore Petrochemical and Indorama Eleme Petrochemical were licensed as the sole manufacturers of Urea blend of fertilizers in Nigeria. Furthermore, the office of the NSA in collaboration with federal ministry of agriculture and rural development facilitated necessary importation of raw materials and also secured distribution networks’. “This move was aimed at solving the national security problem on one hand by easing control of the items and on the other hand, boosting economy by encouraging local production”. “The cumulative annual production of the two companies is estimated at 2. 05 million metric tonnes, while Nigeria’s estimated consumption rate is 1.1million metric tonnes, which is 53 per cent of production. Accordingly, the companies have the opportunity to cumulatively export about 47 per cent of their production”. “However, this office has observed with total dismay some unpatriotic act and abuse of goodwill of government. Reports of activities of these companies have indicated that about 71 per cent of the 2. 05 million metric tonnes cumulative annual production is being exported to the detriment of our national economy. This has resulted in a spike in the price of urea-based fertilizers in Nigeria with obvious implications on food security in the country”. “In view of the forgoing, I wish to categorically state that government will continue to adhere to the rule of law. However, it must be noted that the rule of law is not akin to anarchy”. “Accordingly, this office (ONSA) will not hesitate to close and withdraw the operating license of any company that exports products without first meeting local consumption. This office and the ministry will work to put in place, measures to access production and determine exportable quantity by the respective companies”. Continuing, General Mongonu said, “I must say at this point that the goodwill showed by the government of this country should not be taken for granted. The fact that we are in a difficult time and complicated situation in our economy and security does not mean that companies and individuals with vested interest will take the goodwill of this country for granted”. “The President (Buhari) came to power with specific mandate which is clear to all Nigerians and indeed the international community. We will view with very serious consequences, any company that falls out of line and behave in a manner that will bring to its knee, the economy of this country and indeed the security of this country”. “We will not hesitate act and it is an action that will be taken with immediate effect. It is important to for us to also know that all farmers are suffering in all the communities throughout the country” he concluded. Among those present at the meeting was the minister of state for Agriculture, Senator Hieneken Lokpobiri, Mr. Appolo Goma, Chief Operating Officer, Indorama Petrochemical Company and Mr. Oscar Okpe of Notoro Petrochemical Company.

He’s retired but I have a thriving business I run away from home, yet he won’t help me at home, even when I’m ill. I want to leave him and have discussed the possibility with my eldest child. Politics / Niger Delta Avengers To Federal Government: Your Drones Won't Stop Us by nurabela: 2:16am On Jul 27, 2016
The NDA intelligence agency gathered that the said peace talk or dialogue by the federal government is a delay tactic employed by the federal government, to enable their purchased drones that are said to arrive latest end of August from the United State.
This whole thing makes us to wonder what kind of country is this? We can all see that President Buhari led government is fraud. They are not serious about any dialogue and made it seems the Niger Delta Avengers are the ones not ready for dialogue.
Mr. President you can purchase all the drones in Europe and Untied State. It won’t stop the Niger Delta Avengers from bringing the country’s economy to zero.
The worse you can do is to kill poor innocent people which the military is good at but know the Nigeria Economy will suffer. Also noted, you will not be able to export one litre of crude in the Niger Delta. Just intensify the oil exploration in the North East as for the ones in the Niger Delta forget about it because the Nigeria government won’t export a drop from our land.

Crime / Lagos Landlord Kills Tenant Of Four Months by nurabela: 9:00am On Jul 26, 2016
Samson Folarin

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a landlord, Gbade Metibemu, for allegedly stabbing his tenant of four months, Bright Abraham, to death on Apollo Street in the Makoko area of the state.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Metibemu attacked the 35-year-old Abia State indigene with a knife for refusing to vacate his plank apartment after a week-long disagreement.

Our correspondent was told that the suspect had warned the victim to stop soiling the slum with the faeces of his baby.

When the warning did not yield any result, the suspect was reported to have threatened to kill Abraham.

Last Thursday, around 10pm, the father of four was preparing to sleep when an argument ensued between him and the landlord which degenerated into a fight.

Metibemu was alleged to have got a knife with which he stabbed Abraham in the chest.

He allegedly rushed to the Adekunle Police Station to report that he had been injured by his tenant.

He was, however, detained when news filtered in that Abraham had died at the hospital where he was taken to for treatment.

A resident, who identified himself as Christian Nwankwo, said Metibemu always fought his tenants.

He said, “Abraham packed into the house four months ago. He was well-behaved and good-mannered and those were attributes that endeared him to us. His room is beside the landlord’s.

“However, about a week ago, the landlord started complaining that he should stop spreading children clothes on the washing line. He also complained about the faeces of his baby, which he said was soiling the house.

“He started threatening him to leave or he would kill him. We thought it was a joke.”

Another resident, Ndubuisi Nkegba, said the victim had excused himself from a chat to go to bed that Thursday when he was stabbed.

“Just about 10 minutes after he left us to go to bed, we heard a noise. We rushed there and saw that he had been stabbed in the chest three times by the landlord. He was in a pool of blood. We rushed him to the Federal Medical Centre, Yaba, where he was confirmed dead.”

The landlord was said to have gone to the Adekunle Police Station with a friend, identified as Femi, to report the incident.

“He told the police that his tenant stabbed him. The police were taking his statement when some friends of the deceased, who were returning from the hospital, met him at the station. They told the police that the tenant was dead. The landlord’s friend, Femi, fled, but the landlord was detained.”

It was learnt that the wife and children of the victim had been taken to their family house.

Our correspondent was told that an angry mob demolished the suspect’s apartment and destroyed some of his property.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident, adding that the suspect had been transferred to the State Department of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence, Yaba.
