RomanceKnow A Good Relationship by nurabela(op): 7:09am On Jul 24, 2016
Jayne Augoye

You love him, he loves you. You feel like he’s the one. So how do you know if he will marry you? These indicators should give you a clue

You speak in “when’s, not “if’s.

If your guy starts sentences with, “When we get married,” he has made up his mind; he wants you to be his wife. You may not get engaged the next day, or even the next year, but if your relationship stays on its current trajectory after a statement like
that, you are most likely going to end up as man and wife.

You are invited to his family events

If he imagines you having a lead role in the big picture, he will invite you as his better half to special events. He wouldn’t want his family and friends to get close to you if he didn’t want you to stick around for the long haul.

He considers you part of his team

Because a guy’s career is a main part of his identity, confiding in you about work problems or crediting you for work successes means that he values you as an equal.

He has married friends

Does he roll his eyes at every wedding invitation he gets? Or moan about another double date with your married friends? This could be a giveaway that he’s not ready yet. But if most of a guy’s friends are married already, he’s going to start feeling like the odd man out and be more comfortable taking the leap himself.

He says you’re the “first” or the “only” one who…

Every woman knows that men throw around a lot of superlatives as pick up lines even if they don’t really mean them. I’m sure we’ve all heard from the guy at the bar that we are “the prettiest girl” he’s ever seen. But if he’s still praising your superiority after you’re in a committed relationship, the chances are that he means it and that means something.

You might start thinking about marriage, too, if he’s the one

He already acts like your husband

At the end of the day, marriage is just a formality. That’s not to say it doesn’t mean something, but it doesn’t cause the dramatic change in your relationship that many people imagine after the honeymoon phase,
at least. If he already
treats you like his wife confiding in you first
about big decisions, supporting you, constantly expressing his love and commitment to you, he’s definitely ready to make it official.
PoliticsRestructuring Is Inevitable Irrespective Of Who Is Against It Now by nurabela(op): 6:54am On Jul 24, 2016
By Dele Sobowale
“The rate of change in our time is so swift, that an individual of ordinary length of life, will be called on to face novel situations, which have no parallel in the past. The fixed person for the fixed duties, who in the old society was such a “God-send”, will in the future be a public danger.”—Alfred North Whitehead, 1861-1947.

“Those who make peaceful [change] impossible, will make violent [change] inevitable.” President John Kennedy, 1917-1963.

Kennedy’s statement, perhaps his most widely quoted observation, slightly amended, not to frighten people, was made to Latin American diplomats on March 12, 1962. It is a befitting reminder to those who are opposed to the idea of restructuring Nigeria today – including President Buhari and Vice President Osinbajo. If it needs repeating, I was a fanatical Buhari supporter from 2011 till recently. And, until a better leader emerges, Buhari, with all his faults (and they keep growing daily), still has my vote. However, when the issue is restructuring, he can forget about me for support. In fact, I can state categorically that restructuring is inevitable.

PoliticsStop Calling Criminals Avengers by nurabela(op): 4:54am On Jul 23, 2016
Contrary to local news that Nigeria Navy has arrested Niger Delta Avengers logistics supplier is the biggest joker of the 21st century. As it now any Tom, Dick and Harry is a suspect of Niger Delta avengers. Nigeria Navy has lost the sense of professionalism.
The Nigeria military arrested school students in Oporoza and called them the Niger Delta Avengers, any criminal caught is NDA, ever their Business partners (Illegal Oil bunkers) with which things went south are NDA, Sea pirates are now NDA.
When Niger Delta Avengers carries out any major attack they (Nigeria Military) will deny it. First was the NNPC pipeline that was blown, second the 48-inches Exxonmobil pipeline that was blown by NDA. Mobil and the Government denied it. Only for Exxonmobil to declare false majeure few days after the attack. We want the general public to know the Qua Iboe export pipeline is down right now.
Let me give a little brief about the Qua Iboe Export terminal. This is a subsidiary of Mobile and it the biggest export stream in Nigeria. They export ONE MILLION barrel every two days.
I Brig. Gen Agbinibo personally led this operation. Unlike the Nigeria Chief of Naval Staff that sit in the comfort of his office to pass orders.

The Nigeria Military should stop deceiving the general public and their commander in Chief. They should come out with the truth in Akwa Ibom instead of saying Niger Delta Avengers didn’t blow up thr line but system anomaly. Shame on the Nigeria Military.
Reports from our intelligent agent, the only way funds can be allocated to various department of the Military is only when they (Nigeria Military) arrest the Niger Delta Avengers operatives. But soonest the Nigeria public and their commander in Chief will now the Military is not capable to handle the Niger Delta Avengers.
How do you explain a military officer having a house in choice areas in Nigeria and outside the country? Nigeria serving and retired top officers are the richest people in Nigeria. How do they get such wealth? Right now, they are using Niger Delta Avengers to fraud the Nigeria government and tax payers of their money.
We want to make this clear, all Niger Delta Avengers operatives are intact, our intelligent agencies are all intact and our operative team are in high spirit because we are winning the war. Nigeria Navy can’t arrest any of our operative until we bring down the economy of this country.
We are warning Nupeng and Pengassan to leave all oil field and terminals in the Niger delta because it will be going to be dirty very soon. Foreigners are to leave too.

EducationThe Politics Of University Admission In Nigeria by nurabela(op): 6:38am On Jul 19, 2016
Niyi Akinnaso

When I applied for admission to the university in the 1960s, I knew nobody. There was no godfather or godmother. Neither my parents nor my older siblings could assist me, because they were all stark illiterates. As the first person in the entire Akinnaso lineage to ever go to school, I was virtually on my own. Without any guidance whatsoever, I applied for direct entry admission to the University of Ibadan and the University of Ife, after passing the required General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) papers at the end of my first year of the Higher School Certificate class. I was admitted by both institutions, each one acting independently and without recourse to a superior authority. Ife, then, was a regional university, while Ibadan was federal. I chose to go to Ife to read English. The rest is history.

PoliticsHow Agbele Bought N1.3bn Houses For Fayose – EFCC by nurabela(op): 6:27am On Jul 19, 2016
Eniola Akinkuotu, Abuja

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission says it has made a breakthrough in the alleged corruption case against Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State and his associate, Mr. Abiodun Agbele.

Agbele, who is currently in EFCC custody, was said to have received N1.219bn from a former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, on behalf of Fayose during the build-up to the Ekiti governorship election in June 2014.

However, EFCC detectives alleged that Fayose used a large portion of the N1.219bn along with some money from the Ekiti State coffers to buy houses in Lagos and Abuja which have since been seized by the anti-graft agency.

PoliticsInsecurity: Lagos Places Security Agencies On Red Alert by nurabela(op): 6:17am On Jul 19, 2016
THE Lagos State Government, yesterday directed security agencies in the state to arrest the upsurge in cases of kidnapping and armed robberies in parts of the state.

The Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tunji Bello, in a statement, while assuring residents of adequate security, said government was alive to its responsibilities as the administration of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode would not shy away from its function of protecting the lives and properties of residents in every part of the state.

According to Bello, Lagos was collaborating with security agencies to put in place upgraded security measures that would guarantee safety of lives and properties, saying: “We would like to inform Lagosians that we are saddened by the recent cases of kidnappings that appear not to be unrelenting. But we wish to assure that the government will not fold its arms and allow a few evil doers to prosper at the expense of innocent citizens. We are working together with both Federal Government and Ogun State Government in particular in the volatile areas that have been identified. We will spare no effort at bringing every criminal gang to book. The response of the State Government will be swift, total and reassuring to the public in sending a clear signal to all and sundry that Lagos State will not tolerate any form of criminality.”

While sympathizing with the families of victims in Iba and Ikorodu, the Secretary to the State Government urged residents to go about their normal businesses without any fear or panic as government had placed security personnel on red alert throughout the state to checkmate this menace.

He urged residents to be vigilant and security conscious as intelligence reports had shown that most of the heinous crimes were perpetrated by elements who had infiltrated the state and carrying out crimes in conjunction with friends, family members or close associates of the victims.

Bello stressed the commitment and capacity of the Ambode-led administration to deal with any act of criminality in any part of the state, urging residents to take advantage of the state’s toll free lines: 112 and 767 to report any case of crime or unusual/suspicious movement or strange faces in their neighbourhood to security agencies.

In reference to the recent security equipment and vehicles donated by the administration to security agencies, Bello said the state government in alliance with the Police and other security agencies in the state would continue to do everything possible to halt the trend of kidnapping in the state and bring perpetrators to justice.

PoliticsI Reject Muhammadu Buhari’s Lopsided One Nigeria! by nurabela(op): 5:37am On Jul 18, 2016
By Ochereome Nnanna

WE are now concentrating on the militants to know how many they are, especially in terms of groupings, leadership and to plead with them to try and give Nigeria a chance. “I assure them that the saying by Gen. Yakubu Gowon that ‘to keep Nigeria one is a task that must be done’ still stands. In those days we never thought of oil all we were concerned about was one Nigeria. “So please pass this message to the militants, that one Nigeria is not negotiable and they had better accept it. The Nigerian Constitution is clear as to what they should get and I assure them, there will be justice.” – President Muhammadu Buhari, to some residents of Abuja who paid him Sallah homage recently.President Buhari’s off-the-cuff statement above provides an opportunity for us to pick the mindsets of Nigerians on what they really mean by the concept of “One Nigeria”. It is obvious that “One Nigeria” does not have a single meaning for all of us; going by the way we carry on, especially when we find ourselves in positions of power as Buhari currently does. Let me describe my own idea of One Nigeria. It is a crossbreed between the Zikist and Awoist visions of the unity of Nigeria. Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, the father of African Nationalism and foremost exponent of Nigeria’s independence, believed in a Nigeria where all citizens would share one vision and national aspiration, irrespective of their tribes, tongues, regions, religions, majority or minority status. That is the kind of nationalism practised in Ghana, a country whose foremost independence proponent and Pan-Africanist, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, was inspired by the Great Zik. In Ghana, tribe, region and religion are no impediments to national unity. That is why the longest-ruling head of state, John Jerry Rawlings (a minority), was able to seize power and sanitise Ghana. He laid a solid foundation for today’s success story. Contrast this with Nigeria, where an earlier attempt by Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu and his colleagues ended up being given an ethno-religious and regional toga. It resulted in a civil war at the end of which Nigeria became a colonial booty of Arewa (the Muslim North). The Awoist version of One Nigeria recognised the differences between the various groups and sought to establish a structure in which all these groups could live within their geopolitical enclaves and aspire competitively for the greatness of a united nation. Nobody’s ethnic, religious or cultural hang-ups would slow down the progress of others who do not share these hang-ups, and yet all would belong equally and equitably to one nation in spite of their complex diversity. This arrangement is often described as “true federalism”. So, in this Nigeria of my dreams, those who want to practice Islamic Sharia in their home zone can go ahead. Those who want to cut off the hands of their thieves and overpopulate their home zones with illiterate citizens will not be an impediment to my section which wants to exercise population control, give good education to the young people and offer them a modern, civilised lifestyle comparable to the best in the world. You use what you produce to cater for your people but pay rents to the Federal Government to maintain the common services that bind us together as people of One Nigeria. But you do not use your landmass and population to parasite upon and terrorise others and suck their resources dry in the name of “One Nigeria” which, you insist, is “non-negotiable”. Buhari made reference to what General Gowon told them as young soldiers during the civil war, which was that, “to keep Nigeria one is a task must be done”. Gowon’s charge to his soldiers was meant to bring back the former Eastern Region which was forced by injustice and insecurity within Nigeria to seek safety in a breakaway Republic of Biafra. Majority of Nigerians (not just Northern Nigerians of Arewa extraction) eagerly participated in enforcing the unity of Nigeria through that war. The question we must ask ourselves is: why is it that 46 years after, those who fought in the war and are now in their seventies and eighties are still in charge running the country with their archaic and retrogressive mentalities? Why are they still putting a gun on the heads of Nigerians, threatening that to keep Nigeria one is a task that must be done? Is there any country in the world apart from Nigeria that maintains “national unity” at gunpoint? Why is it that more and more groups are copycatting Biafra with either secession or self-determination bids if, indeed, the civil war kept Nigeria one? In any case, is it indeed true that Nigeria’s unity is “non-negotiable” as Buhari says? For me, it an old lie told a million times by people who do not even take time to check what they are saying. The truth is that the negotiation of the unity of Nigeria is constantly ongoing and (unfortunately) never-ending. The Aburi Accord was a product of negotiation of Nigeria’s unity. All the constitutional talks after the civil war in 1977/78, 1989, 1994, 2006 and 2014 were acts of negotiation of Nigeria’s unity. After the annulment of Moshood Abiola’s victory in 1993, the North negotiated among themselves and gave up the presidency to the Yoruba people to entice them to remain with the Nigerian project. They banned Northerners from contesting the presidency, and overwhelmingly gave their votes to Olusegun Obasanjo. The Yar’ Adua regime negotiated with the Niger Delta militants to drop their arms and accept “amnesty” and some lollipops in return. Nigeria has been begging to negotiate with Boko Haram since the days of President Goodluck Jonathan till date, and even Buhari himself is still on his knees begging the Niger Delta Avengers for negotiation and offering to do “justice” (the same justice he has refused to do since he was elected a year ago!). All these negotiations were efforts to wrest some justice, fairness and equity for people who are not happy with Nigeria. They were thwarted because Nigerians are very easily fooled by cosmetic red herrings, such as concession of the presidency, creation of more states, granting of “amnesty” to aggrieved agitators, appointment of a few of your people to glamorous government offices and flashing of cash to shut up noisy mouths. It also comes in the form of intimidation, persecution by prosecution, freezing of accounts, detention and (in extreme cases) outright elimination of recalcitrant opposition. Even when you thought that seventeen years of renascent democracy had gradually moved Nigeria towards some semblance of geopolitical equalisation, a forgotten fossil of the Nigerian civil war, General Muhammadu Buhari, is brought back to power. He relaunches the worst form of extreme nepotism which even a Northern reactionary commentator, such as Junaidu Mohammed, recently openly condemned. Who would have, in their wildest dream, believed that 46 years after the civil war, it would be possible to have a Federal Government in which the kinsmen and religious acolytes of a sitting President would so predominate in total defiance of the Federal Character principle enshrined in our Constitution? And this is Buhari’s idea of One Nigeria which he vows to maintain? He can count me out of that! This is not the One Nigeria that the people of the North Central, South-South and South West fought for, and certainly not the One Nigeria which the ex-Biafrans looked forward to when they returned in 1970. This is not the One Nigeria which the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) prescribes because it does not give me a feeling of belonging. I reject Muhammadu Buhari’s lopsided One Nigeria!

Christianity EtcIrate Youths Destroy Catholic Church Property, Attack Worshippers by nurabela(op): 5:34am On Jul 17, 2016
A group of Muslim youths on Friday attacked St. Philip’s Catholic Parish, Baki Iku, close to Zuma Rock in Niger State. According to eyewitnesses, some Catholics had gone to the church to pray when they were attacked by the Muslims who claimed that Friday was their day of prayer and that the church only had right to worship on Sundays. The youths were said to have destroyed the church’s property, including doors and the windows. Some soldiers managed to get there later, but not before harm had been done to the building. Worshippers ran away in different directions to avoid being killed. Rev. Fr. Luka Sylvester Gopep, the Vicar-General of the Diocese, confirmed the incident. Gopep said: “Sometime around 2pm, some Muslim youths in their hundreds left their mosque after their Friday Jumat prayer and rushed to the church premises, climbed the wall and destroyed everything in the church: the windows, the altar, musical instruments, the chapel. “The security man in the church premises was beaten to pulp. “Some women who were holding a prayer meeting were chased away. “The seminarian who is resident in the premises was also beaten up and chased away.” Niger State Police Command spokesman, Bala Elkana, confirmed the story, adding, however, that no life was lost. He said the prompt response of the police stopped the situation from escalating.

InvestmentWhy It Is So Hard To Generate Revenue In Nigeria by nurabela(op): 5:23am On Jul 17, 2016
In the last few months, the story that many of our states are unviable and therefore unable to meet basic needs of their people such as payment of workers’ salaries has taken a firm root in everyone’s sub-consciousness. The reason for it is not only because it true but more because it has been repeatedly said even at the highest quarters. There is the hypothesis that states are unable to generate revenue because our people don’t like to pay taxes.

When Bukky’s husband died suddenly of a heart attack in his early 60s, she was inconsolable. They’d been inseparable for decades, and the obituary she put in the papers would draw tears from a sadist’s eyes. She cut a pitiable figure as her husband laid in state in the expensive casket she had insisted be bought. As sympathizers filed past the corpse, a little boy of about ten stood rooted to the spot, gazing with the morbid fascination children have for the dead. The widow was now curious… “Whose child is that?”

Christianity EtcNigerian Shiites “block Highway”, Demand El-zakzaky’s Release by nurabela(op): 7:42am On Jul 16, 2016
Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, the body of Shiites in the country, have blocked the Zaria-Kaduna expressway, to protest against the prolonged detention of their leader, Ibrahim El Zakzaky.
Mr. Zakzaky has been in detention since December 2015.
He was arrested by the Nigerian army after troops clashed with Shi’a members, killing over 300 of them.
The victims were secretly buried in a mass grave in Kaduna, a state official had said.
The army denies the attack despite overwhelming evidence of the atrocity.
It however admits using force, saying the Shiites had blocked the road in an attempt to assassinate its chief, Tukur Buratai, a Lieutenant General.

Our source said “thousands” of Shiites blocked the expressway on Friday, denying road users passage.
The source said security operatives have been deployed to the scene.

A spokesperson for the Shi’as, Musa Ibrahim, confirmed to PREMIUM TIMES that he had received report that “some of our members” embarked on procession today, Friday, and were “attacked by thugs”.
“A report just reached my desk,” said Mr. Ibrahim. “Some of members embarked on peaceful procession today. But they were attacked by thugs at Maraban Jos (along Kaduna-Zaria expressway.”

He added that he was informed that the police intervened in the fight “but I don’t know whether there is casualty”.
He said the “procession” was to demand the release of Sheik Zakzaky”.

More details coming.
