He doesn't know after first degree he would have to work and pay for his master's .....
If he is not lucky to nail a good job the parent can still support him to the last bustop( masters) and after that the parent would chase him out like hen chase it's chicks to go fend for himself......
Right now people are applying for 100k job with masters grin.....
He should better think of skills...
I was in the uni and my friends with o level that learned pastry and cakes are already earning above 200k as pastry chefs and as I'm speaking thier salaries has doubled ......
I don't have strength again.
Let me point out a certain thing.
I see that everyone here fancies having a skill. That isn't so great.i believe a friend above mentioned something about skills and businesses being "over-saturated".Every body tries to do the same things. And there in an inexhaustible list of those things.
It's not gonna be good that a country with a huge population as ours has an economy that runs on "skills and infant businesses"
It won't take us anywhere.

infact, this Covid break taught me how to live life outside of academics.... I've been putting my hand into several fields, far from my degree... from agriculture, to fashion, to electronics, and so much more that I'll have loved to do.... and it doesn't mean when school resumes, I won't continue doing well by His grace.

the guy is just egoistically myopic... he'll soon learn
Lol.
We'll see,my friend.

"From agriculture to fashion to electronics..."
It doesn't look like you have any direction.

I'm not from a wealthy home.

The slogan "This is Nigeria" is meaningless to me.
And it should also be meaningless to everyone else should they all give it a deep thought through.

While acquiring a skill, you'd be getting educated. At the end of the day, depending on how fast things works out...you could be at the receiving end young man. Haven't you for a moment thought about the implications of fully developed AI technology??! It's far reaching effectshuh!!

I foresee a future where man wouldn't have to work as we've known, robots and computers are taking over everything since machine learning came to fore. From design to development, AIs are perfecting the schemes. What numbers do you have that machines wouldn't finesse in split seconds??

Don't be the shortsighted one, knowledge can be very useless if it can't translate into skill. What good is a husband who knows how to kill a rat in the bedroom but can't kill one at that ungodly hour when it mattered??

I've met a professor of Mechanical Engineering from UI during my IT experience at a workshop in Ibadan who said although he knew all about the car he drove, he can't perform a simple general servicing of the said automobile.

Don't wait to see how far ahead they get!

-Lloyd
I guess he's a "Theoretical" professor of Mechanical Engineering.

You must be a brilliant chap. And with this mind set you are going to be successful in life.
Nothing compares with a sound education though I have a limited one. But asking an undergraduate or a graduate to have vocational skill as backup plan is not it for me

Stick with skill acquisition,If you don't have what it takes to attend tertiary institutions in acquiring correct white man's education.

Don't waste money and time going at all.
Thank You Sir!

Yo bro,i'll never neglect my education.
I will still get up to a Masters in Mech.E.
And a B.sc in Economics and maybe in Applied Mathematics as well.Though i'm still in 100lvl doing Mech.E.
My main plan and back-up plan all involves me getting an education so if you like be there and be doing "vocational skill" .we'll see how far that really gets you.
Anyone can learn a vocational skill and still be very educated.
People looking towards skill auquisition as a substitute for True Education are shortsighted.

You're quite delusional.
Igbos are people who are enterprising, industrious and very pesistent.
We don't particularly stay in one spot but we're always eager to branch out and see what we can do wherever we go.
Yorubas are quite slick and don't fancy exploring places so much.

Ask your people. They ruled in the 60s and destroyed our regional system.
Will you fucking shut up?
The North(yakubu gowon) ruined the regional system!!!!
He was the one who turned Nigeria into an American-style federation by dissolving regions into states but yet gave those states very little political autonomy and very little control over their own resources.
Ironsi didn't even rule up to 8 month before that war criminal named Gowon usurped power and gained control of the State.

Earning some cash.Saving up for a better future. 2021 gatz b good.
I Haven't gotten the resources i need to start learning skills just yet.
Although i really have the passion to be a math pro. When i get a new high-grade smartphone and more cash, i believe my proficiency in Mathematics and Chess will undergo tremendous improvement.
Skills i'm looking forward to learn may begin next year.

Was a 100lvl undergrad in Mech.E before all this strike and coronavirus thingz started.

And i must say,i'm really happy and glad we went on this long break.

And i secretly wish for school to resume febuary.

I think u feel it's only tru school you can achieve something in life, that's not true. I have a master's but lemme shock u, I haven't used both my b.sc Nd m.sc to get a job. I learnt how to fix laptops in 3 months Nd steadily I grew from dere to selling laptops. I have a big business by God's grace now. School is good no doubt but don't let it limit your progress in life. You can achieve more without school, just look for what you are passionate about and go for it. soon it will become a money magnet for u.
Must money be the central topic for everything?
