All the posts here have very valid points. But something else you must consider; What if your lecturers go on strike? you may not graduate even in the 2009. Nigeria is too unstable to take the risk. I say you get out now while you still can. |
I think the way to do that is to provide practical and hands-on training to the unemployed. I'm not talking about giving them one or two classes. For instance, now that the telecom biz is booming, we know there are a lot of services that they need. So train some people in these skills, help them incorporate a company that can provide these services, lobby the government to mandate these telcos to have a set aside program that gives some contracts to these fledgling comanies, mandate the fledgling company to hire x many unemployed to be eligible to get those contracts and assist these fledglings to ensure they are able to execute the contract even better than the experts. Like all welfare programs, it requires a commitment from the govt, but it can work. |
You are better of getting an MBA or maybe a masters in computer science from a university in the US. If you are going for an MBA, aim for one of the top tier schools, that's the only way it will work out. If you are going for the Masters in Computer Science, make sure that the school you attend has an active career office, and that companies who come to your school are recruiting for people in computer science. if they dont look for another school. Try not to go for an all white school, because most recruiters who come there are looking only for white folks and you will reaslly have to distinguish yourself to stand out. In fact if you attend one of the historically black universities and do very well you'll be okay. Because recruiters who come to those black schools are looking for black people. Don't get discouraged, because you will have to do some menial jobs before you stabilize. We all went through it. But have a plan. Goodluck |
