Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has admitted that Lionel Messi, Pele and Diego Maradona are the three greatest players in football history, but the Portuguese tactician shocked the world by leaving out his fellow countryman Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo and Messi have been the world’s greatest footballers of this generation, sharing the last eight Ballon d’Ors, yet Mourinho has opted for the Barcelona man ahead of his former Real Madrid player. “For me the top three players in history are Messi, Pele and Maradona,” he said. Ronaldo is a three-time Ballon d’Or winner himself while Messi won an unprecedented five Ballon d’Ors.

Crafted by London's Machine Shop, this likeness of Pegasus consists of 3,500 Huawei handsets and many supporting rods. Creating the sculpture involved much cutting and soldering of iron rods (more than 650 yards), unpacking of phones, and sticky pads. It took 720 man-hours to make Pegasus, which is nearly 19 feet tall with a 16-foot wingspan. CGI by visual effects firm Framestore in the vid below shows Pegasus in flight. Indeed, the sculpture's forelegs are uplifted and its wings are outstretched, as if the fantastic creature will take to the skies above Barcelona.

A new method of delivering data, which uses the visible spectrum rather than radio waves, has been tested in a working office. Li-fi can deliver internet access 100 times faster than traditional wi-fi, offering speeds of up to 1Gbps (gigabit per second). It requires a light source, such as a standard LED bulb, an internet connection and a photo detector. It was tested this week by Estonian start-up Velmenni, in Tallinn. Velmenni used a li-fi-enabled light bulb to transmit data at speeds of 1Gbps. Laboratory tests have shown theoretical speeds of up to 224Gbps. It was tested in an office, to allow workers to access the internet and in an industrial space, where it provided a smart lighting solution. Speaking to the International Business Times, chief executive Deepak Solanki said that the technology could reach consumers "within three to four years". The term li-fi was first coined by Prof Harald Haas from Edinburgh University, who demonstrated the technology at a Ted (Technology, Entertainment and Design) conference in 2011. His talk, which has now been watched nearly two million times, showed an LED lamp streaming video. Prof Haas described a future when billions of light bulbs could become wireless hotspots. One of the big advantages of li-fi is the fact that, unlike wi-fi, it does not interfere with other radio signals, so could be utilised on aircraft and in other places where interference is an issue. While the spectrum for radio waves is in short supply, the visible light spectrum is 10,000 times larger, meaning it is unlikely to run out any time soon. But the technology also has its drawbacks - most notably the fact that it cannot be deployed outdoors in direct sunlight, because that would interfere with its signal. Neither can the technology travel through walls so initial use is likely to be limited to places where it can be used to supplement wi-fi networks, such as in congested urban areas or places where wi-fi is not safe, such as hospitals

FIFA has set up an awareness and prevention campaign to support the fight against Ebola in conjunction with the African Football Confederation (CAF) and health experts. Called Together we can beat Ebola, it involves a selection of the world’s top footballers are publishing eleven messages to raise awareness of the disease and ways to combat it. And three of those players, Neymar, Gerard Piqué and Xavi Hernández, are from FC Barcelona. Each of them make recommendations that were specially chosen by doctors and health specialists from Africa, the World Bank Group and the World Health Organisation (WHO), who are working hard to eradicate the disease from West Africa. Speaking about the importance of such initiatives, Neymar said that “it is very important for the right information to reach the people affected by the outbreak of Ebola. We all hope that this positive campaign can help people get a better understanding of the Ebola virus and reduce the chances of it spreading. We are supporting this campaign in order to help our brothers and sisters in the most affected regions of the world. Together, we can beat Ebola."

Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), formerly known as Ebola haemorrhagic fever, is a severe, often fatal illness in humans. EVD outbreaks have a case fatality rate of up to 90% meaning9 out of 10 people who contract the disease are likely to die The virus is transmitted to people from wild animals and spreads in the human population through human-to-human transmission. Ebola can be contracted through direct contact (through broken skin or mucous membranes) with the blood, secretions, organs or other bodily fluids of infected people including semen and vaginal fluid. Contact with the corpse of a diseased person can also lead to infection with the virus. The symptoms of Ebola include fever, intense weakness, muscle pain, headache and sore throat. The incubation period, that is, the time interval from infection with the virus to onset of symptoms, is 2 to 21 days Suspicious wild life aka Bush meat should be avoided as much as possible and animal products to be consumed should be thoroughly cooked before consumption. Regular hand washing is advisable to avoid picking up germs. Use soap and water, or alcohol-based hand rubs containing at least 60 percent alcohol Be aware. Get as much information as you can about Ebola. Protect yourself and your family. Prevention is better than cure |
- A teenager in India, who had more than 200 "teeth" growing in his mouth due to a benign dental tumor, has had them removed. Ashik Gavai, a 17-year-old student from Buldhana, underwent the six-hour operation, which involved four doctors at Mumbai's J.J. Hospital on July 21. The teen had 232 denticles -- abnormal teeth-like growth -- lodged in his mouth due to a complex composite odontoma, a benign dental tumor. The abnormal teeth were embedded in the bone inside the lower right jaw and were not visible from outside the mouth. Surgeons say the surgery was "dangerous" and the patient's jawbone will take three to four months to heal. "It is very common for a person to have a (small) number of abnormal teeth, but this many is very rare," said Dr. Sunanda Dhiware, head of the Department of Dentistry at J.J. Hospital. She adds that she knows of cases where 40 to 50 teeth were removed. Gavai's normal teeth are to remain in his mouth, although the doctors did help to remove a wisdom tooth. The teen is currently recovering in the hospital and has been put on a liquid diet of mainly coconut water and milk. According to Dr. Vandana Thoravade, surgeon in the ENT department at J.J. Hospital, the operation could have cost as much as 250,000 rupees (about $4,000), which the Gavai family could not afford. The teen's father is a farm laborer who earns 150-200 rupees ($2-3) a day. The government's Rajiv Gandhi Jeevandayee Arogya Yojana program -- which supports low income patients -- took care of the bill. Gavai's doctors said the denticles likely started to form when the patient was six years old, but Gavai did not notice the abnormal teeth until a month ago, when his mouth began to swell. The village doctors near his home in Buldhana District, about 500 km from Mumbai, were unable to treat Gavai's condition, and referred him to the Mumbai hospital. Doctors say denticles are likely to grow again in Gavai's mouth, but

ANALYSIS: The Blaugrana are poised to assemble the most talented all-South American front three since Brazil lined up with Ronaldo, Rivaldo and Ronaldinho - but will it work? Luis Enrique joked when he took charge of Barcelona that the psychologist he intended to make a part of his backroom staff was just for him. With Liverpool’s Luis Suarez now on his way to Camp Nou, that may no longer be the case. Still, the new Blaugrana boss will need all the emotional support he can get this season, because trying to keep the Uruguayan, Lionel Messi and Neymar happy could drive a lesser man insane. On paper, of course, Luis Enrique will soon be in possession of arguably the greatest all-South American front three the game has seen since Ronaldo, Rivaldo and Ronaldinho inspired Brazil to World Cup glory in 2002. However, as we are so often told, games are not won on paper; Argentina’s goalscoring problems at this summer’s tournament prove as much. The Albiceleste have reached the final but they have managed just eight goals in six games – despite being in a position to field a frontline containing Messi, Gonzalo Higuain and Sergio Aguero/ Ezequiel Lavezzi. Messi has accounted for half of his country’s World Cup tally in Brazil but even he has not netted since the group stage. Where best to position the four-time Ballon d’Or winner has been a topic of much debate for the Argentines, as has the most suitable system. Messi made his preference for a 4-3-3 perfectly clear after the group-stage win over Bosnia and Herzegovina and, from a tactical perspective, things should run quite smoothly in Catalunya. Luis Enrique is a Barcelona man through and through. Ergo, he is a firm advocate of the 4-3-3 formation with which the club has become synonymous. A three-man front line is, therefore, precisely what Luis Enrique always intended to field – with or without Suarez. Furthermore, all three superstar forwards seem ideally suited to the system. Neymar, like Ronaldinho, is most comfortable on the left-hand side of the attack, as it allows him to cut infield onto his right foot to devastating effect. Messi is no out-and-out centre forward but the 'false nine' position was effectively created for him by Pep Guardiola, a tactic which allows the Argentine to simultaneously roam free and be the focal point of the attack. Suarez, meanwhile, is a versatile footballer, capable of leading the line, as he has done so effectively at Liverpool over the past two seasons, but also creating goals for others, often by drifting wide to exploit the space in the channels. It is that latter quality that should enable him to flourish at Camp Nou. Suarez is also willing to work for the team, as evidenced by the way in which he readily agreed to occasionally play out wide to accommodate Daniel Sturridge through the middle at Liverpool last season. However, Brendan Rodgers' side was always based around getting the best out of Suarez. He was the star man. He will not be afforded that status at Camp Nou.

The Catalan giants will imminently announce the capture of the Uruguay star after agreeing to meet the release clause inserted in the striker's new Liverpool contract last December Jul 10, 2014 08:55:00 By Wayne Veysey Luis Suarez is on the brink of officially completing his sensational transfer from Liverpool to Barcelona after the terms of a deal worth just over €88 million were agreed on Wednesday night. The agreement comes after a week of negotiations between the clubs, with an announcement expected in the coming days - perhaps even within 24 hours. Barcelona have captured Suarez in a straight cash deal after agreeing to meet the release clause in the Liverpool contract he signed last December. It is believed that Suarez will undergo initial medical examinations from Barca doctors in his native Uruguay, where he has been staying following his country's elimination from the World Cup. Officials from the Catalan club have been negotiating with their counterparts from Merseyside in the last week over the structure of payments in the deal, with Liverpool pushing for a higher initial sum. An agreement has now been reached and the final formalities will be completed before Suarez is announced as Barcelona's marquee signing of the summer. The 27-year-old is currently serving a four-month ban - which runs until October 26 - for biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini while playing for Uruguay in his nation's final World Cup group stage match. Under the terms of the suspension, Suarez is not allowed to train with his club or enter the confines of any stadium during his ban. Barca will partly fund the signing of the 27-year-old by selling Alexis Sanchez to Arsenal. The Chile World Cup star will move to Emirates Stadium after Arsenal agreed a package worth €40m (£31.8m) with the Spanish club . Liverpool will now look to strengthen their squad using some of the money from the Suarez deal. The Merseysiders are on the verge of completing a triple swoop for Benfica winger Lazar Markovic, Lille striker Divock Origi and Southampton defender Dejan Lovren.
