Good day to every Nairalander out there. Hope y'all are having a nice weekend. Exactly 3 years ago, there was a scenario that almost got me killed. On one fateful day,I got a call from a friend of mine. He asked me if I would be able to take his fiancee to her home town which is in isoko. Before I could name my price, he offered to pay me the sum of 18k, for to and fro. The money looked so good and I obliged to his request. The next thing I saw was an alert of 18k sitting comfortably on my phone, cuz he already had my account details, prior to the fact that we had done several deals together in the past. So,the following morning which was Sunday,we were set (his fiancee and I) and off we departed for her home town. Finally we arrived and our arrival was greeted with something I wasn't expecting. The entire community seemed to had gathered and it appeared they were expecting our arrival. We were ushered into the community's town hall and the eldest man in the community came out. Then he asked my friend's fiancee if I was her fiance and she said yes . Of course,I became confused and why would she say yes to that kind of a question . Many thoughts began running through my mind at that moment. Next thing I heard, was the community youths ordering us to get up from the chairs we were sitting and sit on the floor . Now,the whole video was becoming clearer and it wasn't funny as I thought initially."So,na you and your wife gang up sell their only family land abi?" The eldest man asked me in isoko language. (Of course, that's my maternal dialect and I understands it). "Please, what land are they talking about?" I replied, looking at my friend's fiancee ![]() At this moment, the town hall was already becoming hot,as the youths were already in the mood to beat the hell out of me,or probably set me ablaze for something I had no idea on . The more I tried to explain to them that I was just a Keke rider who was hired and paid to provide a service, the more the slaps kept landing on my face. I tried calling my friend but there was no network in the community. Fortunately,a good Samaritan among them told them to please hear me out. That was when I had the chance to tell them I wasn't her fiance. That I was only paid as a Keke rider to bring her home. Finally, she apologized to the community elders and youths, and transfered 3 million naira into the community account, with a promise to pay a balance of 2 million naira by the end of the month. Finally,we were released. I was so furious and wish I could get my hands on my friend right away so that I can strangle the hell out of him . Cuz if he had told me what the intention behind the journey was,I wouldn't have embarked on it ,no matter how enticing the money was . It all looked like a set up. From that day,I knew that wasn't the kind of friendship I needed. I cut him off but tho we do see each other these days, but we only exchange pleasantries and go our separate ways. LordIsaac:. Hustle smart, and don't hustle hard....That's not too hard to understand bro.. |
MatrixCircle:. If you can't deduce one or two lessons from the whole write up, Then it's quite obvious you've got problem with comprehension |
Good day to each and every one of you out there . Hope y'all are enjoying the festivities? So yesterday I got a call from a very good friend of mine whom I introduced into Keke business about 3 years ago. From the way he was sounding on the phone,I knew all wasn't well with him. So out of curiosity,I asked him to know why he was sounding like that and his reply really struck deep into my heart. He had finally sold off his Keke. I mean the same Keke which had left him in countless debts and of which I warned him earlier on to kindly deal away with before things would get out of hand. I even used myself as a case study for him but it seemed everything I was telling him were all falling upon deaf ears . I could remember him asking me--"Obax,if I sell the Keke now, wetin I wan come do"? That question alone, has always been the reason why many people seems to stay in abusive marriages, relationships and works, which have led them to their early graves . Tho I was once in a similar situation like him,but how I navigated my way out of it wasn't through mysterious ways but I had to confront business- minded people to seek advice from them. I gave him plenty reasons to let go of the Keke on time because I knew what the outcome would turn out to be. I even told him to start up a POS business right in front of his street which I know to be a very busy spot. Mind you,not that I'm making gest of him because he's the kind of friend whom I sincerely care for. And that was why I brought him in the first place. But after all the loses I encountered,I honestly wouldn't want to see anyone close to me to be a victims of such situations. All of a sudden, this dude started avoiding my calls. So I left him to his fate ,not until yesterday when he called. Now, here's what I'm trying to say. Sometimes, hustling smart pays more than hustling hard. I've tested the both of them and I can attest to that. Here on Nairaland, I've always shared stories about myself, not because I want public sympathy or financial help from anyone but to let every hustler on here know that there's always dignity in hardwork. I've always been of the opinion that giving up on life as a hustler shouldn't be an option and of course I can't even remember the numerous times many Nairalanders have reached out to me. Some said words of encouragement to me,and others insulted the hell out of me. Yet, giving up has never and will never be an option. There was a time I worked in different bakeries. The last one happened to belong to my Friend's immediate younger sister and I was made the manager. But despite all the efforts we put into it,they were to no avail. In fact,we got liquidated, bankrupt and fell off from business. All those years, peace of mind was something I couldn't get. I was only hustling just to feed myself. No clothes and was still living under my father's house. The funniest thing and sweetest fact about life generally which I've come to realize is that no matter what, sometimes, hard work doesn't really pay the way smart work does. More so,the moment you find yourself doing one thing and it isn't yielding the results you've been expecting so far, move away from it. Try something else, and eventually that's where your breakthrough may even come from🙏
