Medical profession is a niche that has the basic aim of saving lives and improving the well-being of the populace. However, there are acres of diamond and income generation avenues embedded in this profession which are indeed very lucrative ventures that when properly harnessed and utilized will not only increase your personal revenue but will also promote the general growth of the health sector. Well, with the current state of the economy, everyone tends to be affected one way or the other without the exception of those in the medical field. This makes it necessary for one to make extra moves in identifying alternative ways to generate income whether employed or unemployed. You will agree with me that in the medical field, there are quite a lot of medical entrepreneurial opportunities which are probably not utilized or underutilized either due to inadequate knowledge of the existence of such opportunities or lack of proper guidance. This article will thus serve as an eye-opener that will highlight some of these medical entrepreneurial opportunities that can make you smile to your bank always so sit tight and let’s paddle together. #1 Setting up a Health facility: A health facility can be a hospital, a medical laboratory center, a gym, a pharmacy outlet, Ultrasound or x-rays, maternity and psychiatric centers among others. These facilities when birthed may not make you a millionaire immediately but with strategic planning and determination, it will yield amazing results in the long-run. An added advantage is that various outlets or branches can be setup in numerous locations with qualified personal administering medical services. However for you to be successful you need to ensure adequacy of sophisticated equipment and professional personals that you will employ as you progress in your business. This will distinguish you from medical quacks who provide substandard services with the only aim of making money. Feasibility studies and market survey is equally important as its not advisable to situate your entity on an island but in strategic locations. #2 Medical Importation: The medical field is such that requires equipments which can either be manufactured locally or be imported. Instruments such as ECG machines, wheel chairs, crutches, orthopedic beds, automated machines among others can be imported and sold with maximum profits generated. What is just needed here is the requisite knowledge and a licence. Though the medical importation can be a little bit capital intensive, however you can start up with the manufacture of routine hospital equipments such as plasters, bandages, cotton wool, surgical dresses, gauze, medical gloves, needles and syringes and from there proceed to importation of those that are not locally available. You can sign up with companies such as Alibaba.com and begin your importation. #3 Preparation and Sales of Medical Reagents: Numerous hospitals and health care centres are always in high demand of reagents including laboratory reagents and medical kits. Venturing into its production and supply is very lucrative most especially when in partnership with various hospital within and outside your locality, you can begin from your immediate environs and then spread your tentacles to other places. #4 Medical Waste Disposal and Recycling: The Health and oil sectors are the two major areas with enormous biodegradable and non biodegradable waste production and therefore, proffers a high promising opportunities of making enough money for those in the profession. This is very lucrative most especially from busy hospitals and health centres and one can equally sign up with various companies as an online Virtual assistant where you work with your laptop or your android phones right at the comfort of your home or office. Having sound medical knowledge is a big plus if you wish to excel as there are enormous medical terminologies and jargons which must be written correctly. transcription and medical coding #6 Production and Sales of Medical Apps: As a medical practitioner, learning software programming is an added advantage to your career. You will be able to earn money by generating medical apps for instance, apps for disease diagnosis and treatments, monitoring and documentation of patient details and even medical GPRS apps for emergency services. You can sign up with Appsmoment and start generating apps for yourself. #7 Installation of Medical Facilities: Many medical centres are being erupted almost on a daily basis. As a medical entrepreneur, you can seize the opportunity by making inquiries about the sites and negotiate the installation contract with your clients. Once your works are good, be assured of many installation opportunities and proposals from different individuals and cooperate bodies whenever such arises. #8 Blogging: Hey! You may be wondering how a blog can generate income. The truth is that you can make a lot of money from your blog if well managed. Ranging from placing of sponsored advert on your blog where advertisers pay you for their adverts to having an E-commerce shop where you can advertise your manufactured or imported products to the public and even sell your ebooks online especially if you are an expert in your specific field. Dear Crimson, Phew! Today was my first day as an intern Medical laboratory scientist and as you would rightly guess, I was excited really about this new step in my life’s journey. Oops! Pardon my bad manners Crimson. I didn’t even exchange pleasantries with you. I am certain you are used to that already. Days like this, I am so glad you can’t talk. I have so much to say for both of us anyways. You have become so real to me that I almost always forget you are just a book- but you are certainly not like every other book, you are my book, my Crimson. I remember quite vividly the first day we met or rather the first day I met you. There you were lying on display on the bookshelf. You had a little bit of reddish glitter. I guess that’s what caught my eye. Anyways, almost immediately I decided that if you were ever going to have a name, it would be Crimson. Well back to my day Crimson. I started today with of course a wonderful time with dad and by now Crimson when I write “dad” am sure you know I mean God. I am so grateful to him that I got this opportunity to be an intern. It is not a small thing to be get enrolled as an intern ooo! Can you recall the experience I had at the first internship exam I wrote? O! I didn’t write you about that right? My bad. Well Crimson here it goes. I had always loved that hospital. It was my “dream hospital” for no particular reason at all just that I loved the city. When I heard that it was time for anticipating interns to tender their applications, I quickly applied. Don’t get me started on the application process Crimson. I had to travel all the way from here to the hospital about 2000km which cost roughly 4000 naira to and fro, “just to apply”. On getting there, the staffers were quite nice to me. One of them advised me to study hard. Once I do, I would get the internship. I went home dusted up my Monica Cheesbrough and started studying. Fast forward, months later, I got an information that some of my classmates were invited for an interview after which successful candidates would be taken in as interns. Guess what Crimson? I no get the invite O! I felt so hurt. Some of my classmates did get the invitation via a text message from the hospital management. Crimson, Text message ko! Text message ni! I no get anything. I kept reminiscing about it in a keke on my way home from fellowship with the cool evening breeze rendering a soothing massage on my face. After some thoughts, I decided to hand it over to dad. He helps me handle disappointments a lot. I felt a sense of peace pierce through my troubled heart. I thanked him for that because I knew he would deny me of no good thing. I forgot all about it and decided to move on with the hope to apply at other places. My best friend didn’t get the invitation too so we decided not to go and disgrace ourselves there though some of my uninvited colleagues insisted on going without the invitation by the hospital management. On the D-day of the examination, I woke up around past 7 (sleep sweet joor! After all if I wasn’t going to write the exam I might as well enjoy my sleep). Following some minutes of stretching on my bed, I woke up finally to some calls from my friends (a dear friend had called much earlier to know if I was still coming for the interview but I was sleeping) who were applicants in order to inform me that my name was on the list for the eligible candidates but somehow, I wasn’t notified. Can you believe that Crimson? I dressed up so quickly and headed to my parents office to inform them and get ego (money) then to the park. I know you must think I was crazy for doing that right? 1 mean the exam was scheduled for 8am and by few minutes to 8 I was still here in the city. Well I wasn’t crazy. I boarded that vehicle hoping that dad would do a miracle. Perhaps even reduce the time rate or make them begin the examinations so late. You guessed right Crimson, Superman daddy did it. I got to the venue around 10 am and the exam had just kicked off. I got into the hall looking somewhat lost. The invigilators were quite nice though a bit perturbed I came so late. My eyes locked with some of my classmates as I walked to my chair to write. I prayed for wisdom, like I always do for every examination. We had only ten questions Crimson. It wasn’t until after the examination that my mind pondered on why ten seemingly easy questions would be a means of selecting qualified interns out of a large number of about three hundred or more interested candidates. I didn’t let myself get worried about it. Yet another thing I decided to give to daddy. “Are you sure sir? Please check again” this was what I found myself saying over the phone during my conversation with one of the hospital administrators. The list for the eligible interns was out and I didn’t qualify. I called the hospital management just to be sure. “No your name isn’t there” was his reply. I thanked him. I was surprised he didn’t end the conversation earlier. I guess he must have sensed the desperation in my voice. I was hurt deeply again Crimson. When the list was finally published, only twelve candidates qualified out of not less than three hundred interested candidates. I know Crimson that’s crazy right? I wish they would refund me my money ooo! That was my ordeal Crimson. I never called back again. I just moved on. I have other “internship search” gist as well as “how my first day as an intern went gist” for you. However, I have got to go now Crimson, I am now a “working class madame” Hehehe. No more late nights with you Crimson, at least not tonight. With love, The anonymous intern.

Any information on that |
There are various medical scholarships open for both undergraduates and postgraduate studies ranging from local to international scholarships. Admission into institutions of higher learning is the utmost desire of every aspiring student in order to achieve and fulfil the dream but unfortunately, many dreams remain a mere illusion and unfulfilled due to lack of funds or sponsorship. Over the years, i have observed with keen interest on the ways to secure one or more scholarship into the medical school to ease the burden of dependence on our sponsors for money. This article will unravel 6 ways so relax let’s ride! 1. Information on medical scholarships: Undoubtedly, information is very necessary for you to secure a medical scholarship. We are in the information age and quite a lot of opportunities are available to be grabbed and utilized. There are various channels or avenues one can get informed but the predominant source is via the internet. Visitation of sites such as scholarship positions, opportunity desk, after-school-Africa, Bestacada just to mention a few will keep you abreast of any latest gist. You can sign up with their newsletters and follow them on social media to be readily updated. To be informed, there is also need to periodically check your state Ministry of Education and Information, state and federal scholarship boards for the latest medical scholarship and their tentative deadlines. Colleagues, Lecturers, Academic staff advisers, college councillors are equally sources of getting informed. 2. Apply as much as possible: This is definitely another strategy that can be used to secure medical scholarships. You don’t need to be reluctant to give a trial to any opportunity. Be open minded and positive about them. Who knows? You can secure for yourself more than two scholarships for your undergraduate or postgraduate studies. The goal here is to apply and keep applying until your mission is accomplished. 3.Get your documents ready: Many Medical scholarship bodies or agencies do require that you upload scanned copies of your credentials which include your birth certificates, O-level (WAEC, NECO or GCE) results, Local Government of Origin, First School Leaving Certificates (FSLC), a recent passport photograph, International passport and undergraduate transcripts for postgraduate programs. Students wishing to apply for a scholarship should have the scanned copies of these documents saved in their mobile phones or laptops to ensure easy accessibility when any opportunity arrives. This will equally help them to meet the respective deadlines 4. Submit before deadline: Every scholarship application has a deadline for submission. You don’t have to delay your application towards the closure period. The best way is checking up for your scholarships of interest to know their actual deadlines. Save it on your phone notebook and prioritize your schedules in order to submit as early as possible. Waiting towards the eleventh-hour will not only mount unnecessary anxiety or pressure on you but will cause a lot of mistakes in your application that could be easily avoided. 5. Submit the right information: Filling in the application spaces is one thing, filling in the required and right information is entirely another thing. For instance, applicants whose phone numbers and functional email address are not correctly written will miss notification about date and venue for the interview and of course will not be shortlisted. To avoid this, it is necessary to crosscheck the information prior to submission, dot your ‘I’s and cross your ‘T’s and also pay rapt attention to the essay questions on your application respond to them with well targeted answers. Be authentic with your application. 6. Study with past questions: Before attending any scholarship interview, ensure that you know the nature of questions they do ask. Many scholarship questions varies ranging from verbal attitude to current affairs and perhaps general questions including your area of expertise. The use of past question will give you the basic knowledge which will boost your confidence and readiness for the interview. Conclusively, obtaining medical scholarships can just be like icing on a cake when the above strategies are diligently applied and don’t forget, attendance of the interview on time is quite important. Ultimately, you can’t neglect prayers which is the master key for your success. You are created for the best! Make it happen!! A Highflyer in this context is a student that excels academically. Becoming a 'Highflyer' in school is everyone desire but not all are willing to pay the necessary price required for it and just like any other venture or endeavour, academics also require hardwork, focus and determination in order to excel. it's my earnest desire to guide you on this journey of academic success based on my own personal experience, experiences from friends and of-course, those I have mentored achieve academic excellence. So the 1 million question is How can I be a High-flyer? Have a Dream: Every top student has a dream to make good grades and graduate with an excellent result. Well, I'm not talking about daydreaming or metaphysical sorts of dream, I mean the Martin Luther King concept of having a vision, setting down goals and achieving the goals. its not only goals but SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound) goals such as: What do I intend to graduate with ( First Class /second class upper) ? How many hours should I study a particular course per day? How many courses should I cover a week ? Where is my area of difficulty and how can I improve? Knowing what you want and setting goals to realize it should be your utmost priority. For instance, I had a friend who said that I have a dream that I will make A's in the West Africa Senior Secondary Examination council (WASSCE) in a particular school where they normally record 90% mass failure every year and even the remaining 10% result is nothing to write home about owing to the compendium of 'EFCC' that greet their result. When he said this, everyone doubted and even laughed at him telling him to start preparation for a second missionary journey the next year. The young boy stood his ground, set his goals, attended extra-moral classes everyday, read very well and eventually surprised the 'doubting Thomases'. Though he didn't get the 9A's but he had 6As and 3Bs and his result was the best in my state that year. He was offered a scholarship into the university where he came out with a CGPA of 4.76 (on a scale of 5.0) and is currently finalizing his PH.D without a masters degree. That's the power of dream! 2. Focus : To dream is not enough, you got to concentrate and dedicate your whole attention on your goal and refuse to be distracted by anybody or anything. You got to have a resolution and stick to it. You can't have focus and be pursuing every human wearing skirt or trouser or be in a relationship that won't add any cubit to your academic growth. You can't have focus and be a regular customer in beer parlor or be in attendance in all night clubs.. Nay! nay!! nay!!! As an undergraduate, I had a watchword engraved at a strategic corner in my room that says : Dave, Make A's Manage B's Reject C's I read it every morning and it became my daily routine. one striking experience I had was that it rekindled my mental energy and rejuvenated my subconscious mind to my target and frankly speaking, it paid off at the end of the day KNOW THYSELF: Do I understand in a noisy or cool environment? Do I read more in a group or when single? Do I need to read a particular topic once or more before I can understand it? When is my best period of studying: early morning, afternoon or night? Am I a slow or fast reader? Answering these questions will help you understand yourself and what works best for you which is important in making adequate preparation for your academics. There is no need trying to emulate another person’s reading strategy or even copying their personal timetable rather know what works for you and adhere to it. 4. KNOW THY LECTURER: Knowing your lecturer and knowing what they expect from you will definitely trigger your grades. Some lecturer will require that you give exactly what they taught you while others may prefer that you add more ‘flesh’ to their ‘skeleton’. In the first scenario, there is no need for any addition as some of them are so strict with their rules and this may warrant you losing marks. Nevertheless, having extra or additional knowledge on a concept is not bad but in such cases, it’s better to keep it to youself 5. HAVE A MENTOR: Mentoring what I commonly refer to as an external ginger is very ideal if you desire to be the best. For every venture worth-taking, there are top-notched personalities that have attained such great feat in your field of learning. They know the basic principles and risk they took before reaching such heights. Learning from their experience will help you a great deal and will facilitate your progress towards actualizing your academic dream. 6. EXERCISE AND DIET: A common adage has it that all work and no play makes jack a dull boy. Academics is a work and for you to do well in it, you need to have a break for exercise. Exercise refreshes and relieves us from accumulated stresses and pumps endorphins into our brain. This relaxes your mind and sharpen your mental alertness and cerebral acumen. Thus it’s mandatory that exercise is included in your personal timetable which must be judiciously and consciously maintained. It’s equally important that you consume vegetables and fruits and equally stay hydrated by drinking much water while been unreceptive to junk foods that sap you of energy.
