2 CONTRASTING EVENTS @ SAME LOCATION (the difference was clear)

I had the priviledge of ATTENDING the funeral party of a childhood friends grandfather here in Lagos over the weekend. This grandfather had only 4 children and since the children could not reach an agreement on the mode the entertainment of guests would take jointly, the only option was for each of the children to cater for their guests. By implication, this meant that 4 different setups for canopies on an open field.

For simplicity I would tag the 4 children Af, Bf, Cm & Df (m—male & f—female). A, B and D all relied on their friends and other relatives to monitor the cooking of food as they bought everything themselves. Of course you cannot rule out the incidence of food pilfering (cooked and uncooked) in this case. The serving was also by friends and family members. Everyone wanted their guests to be cared for at the same time. Your guess is as good as mine, it was a rowdy session. There was pandemonium. In the end, a number of their separate guests were served only soft drinks before deciding to leave when it was getting too late.

However, the canopy of C was totally different. In fact it was the least decorated among the 4. Very simple in nature. What further made it to stand out was that 95 – 98 percent of C’s guests were putting on a yellowish brown Ankara while the guests of the other 3 had 70 – 80 percent of their guests had their attires with Lace material.

I later got to know that C engaged the services of an EVENT PLANNER. There was a caterer who took care of the food and serving of guests. There was law and order under that canopy. Everything there was perfect. Cross-carpeting would readily stand you out as an intruder, our attire,

Please don’t ask me which canopy I was.

I was invited by the last born of D, hence canopy D was my bearing. As a professional, I understood the whole situation as the genesis of this kind of segregation arises when one of the children believes that he or she has more sophisticated guests to care for than others and therefore feels cheated

The essence of an Event Planner cannot be kept aside if one is to have a stress free event devoid of chaos and full of order.

THE DIFFERENCE WAS CLEAR.
