The first batch of 214 trainees, who had graduated after undergoing training in focal areas such as Tailoring, Hairdressing, Haircut and Aluminum works apprenticeship, were settled in September 2017, accordingly.

Speaking during the graduation ceremony in Enugu, which was attended by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, Mrs. Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, who was represented by her Sector Director, Pharm. Ugwuanyi for the state’s contributions and untiring efforts towards the success of the programme as well as “this unique collaboration aimed at accelerating the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in Enugu State and Nigeria”.

She therefore, announced that “approval has been granted to Enugu State for continuation of the skill acquisition programme to consolidate the success achieved by the Federal and Enugu State governments through the initiative” and called on other states to emulate Gov. Ugwuanyi towards the realization of the SDGs goals for the overall benefit of the masses.

“I also want to encourage other states to borrow a leaf from Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi by ensuring that their plans and projects are targeted towards achieving the goals of SDGs so that our 2030 Agenda will be realized as a nation”, the SSA to the President said.

In his address, Gov. Ugwuanyi, while congratulating the graduands on their achievement, stated that the scheme was “undoubtedly a very important and timely intervention that is helping to create wealth, reduce unemployment and stimulate productivity especially among our youths and women”.

The governor added that the scheme was a “welcome complement” to the efforts and initiatives of his administration in the area of youth/women empowerment, skills acquisition and poverty alleviation, stressing that it was also in furtherance of the progress recorded in other state’s empowerment programmes such as Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), the Enugu State Youth Enterprise Support Scheme (ENU-YESS), among others.

Gov. Ugwuanyi expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for its continued support to the implementation of the SDGs in the state, and pledged the “continued cooperation and full commitment” of his administration to the success of the programme as well as other collaborations between the state and federal government designed for the benefit and empowerment of the people.

“I use this occasion to reassure the good people of Enugu State that we remain fully committed to our promise to reduce poverty in the state and will continue to do all that is necessary to promote the empowerment and economic emancipation of our youths, women and families”, Gov. Ugwuanyi said.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Special Adviser to the Governor on SDGs and Inter-Ministerial Affairs, Hon. Mabel Agbo, noted that the empowerment programme was part of the four-point agenda of the state government, explaining that “what we are doing today does not only create employment, but helps to reduce crime and other social vices by keeping the individual meaningfully engaged in an economically productive venture”.

Hon. Agbo maintained that she was satisfied with the level of proficiency acquired by the graduands, adding that a good number of them were able to demonstrate that they have acquired the capacity to compete favourably in any environment.

She disclosed that many of the first batch graduands “have been able to set up viable barber’s and hair dressing shops and are now Chief Executive Officer of their own businesses”, and encourage the newly graduated trainees to be dedicated, productive and utilize the seed money to actualize their potentials in keeping with the set objectives of the scheme.

“To the graduands, I want to say congratulations for acquiring new skills and knowledge. We have basically armed you with the tools to succeed in life. In the last one year, you went through the rudiments of a profession you chose. We have no doubt that you are now better equipped and prepared to face the world, and in a better frame of mind too. I encourage you to hit the road running because anytime lost cannot be regained”, Hon. Agbo advised.

Other dignitaries at the event, which was electrified with uncontrollable jubilation the moment the graduands started receiving alerts of the seed money on their phones, were the state’s Deputy Governor, Hon. Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo; the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Edward Ubosi and other members of the House; State Executive Council (EXCO) members; Chairmen of the 17 Local Government Areas, Traditional Rulers, among others.

CelebritiesFlavour’s Concert: No Rape Case In Our Command – Enugu Police by OEPHIUS(op): 9:07pm On Apr 04, 2018
The Enugu State Police Command, Wednesday, dispelled reported rape of at least 20 ladies at a musical concert, which featured popstar, Chinedu Okoli, popularly known as Flavour in the State.
The concert , which held at the Michael Okpara Square, Enugu on Saturday, ended with news circulating in the media that 20 ladies were raped.

However, spokesman of the Police in the State, SP Ebere Amaraizu told DAILY POST that neither the State command headquarters nor any of its division had received report from any victim over the reported rape.

Amaraizu, who wondered how the news was generated, said mischief could not be ruled out as those behind it must have had the evil intention to cast put terror in the minds of the law abiding members of the public and also paint security operatives, the State Government and the organizers in bad light.

“There is no reported case anywhere in the Enugu State Police command. We don’t have any incident arising from that event; whoever that has any should come forward, and we will look at it.

“That event was organized by Flavour as a way of giving back to the society, because he grew up here in Enugu.

“We won’t want a situation where people sit down somewhere and manufacture stories because he who asserts must also prove.

“You even begin to ask yourself, those people that quoted number of the rape victims as 20, how they did do they counting? Does it mean they were following the rapists around the taking the data? Or the victims were assembled at one place and raped? Who are these victims?

“So, people cannot just sit down and say 1000 persons have been raped whereas there is no evidence to substantiate that. People are just abusing the social media because I understand that someone just tweeted it and it began to spread,” he stated.

While noting that “the handiwork of mischief makers cannot be ruled out”, the PPRO further stated that “these are people who are always there to cause panic in the minds of law-abiding residents of the State, to cause terror in the their mind and to rubish the good work being done by the security agents and the State Government.

“So, as far the command in concerned, we do not have any reported case of rape arising from that event or after the event. Any person who has any claim on the contrary should come up with it and we will take it up from there.

“It is quite lamentable and disgusting for people to wallow in such imagination and feed the public with it.”

PoliticsPrice Of Rice: Reno Omokri Lied (see Nov 2014) by OEPHIUS(op): 9:21am On Mar 30, 2018
Former Media aide to Ex-President Jonathan is known for his tweet, some inspiring but others less inspiring and his recent tweet about the price of rice here https://www.nairaland.com/4426094/bag-rice-n8000-5-years is just a huge lie.

As at November 2014, a bag was rice was already rising and went up to 10,000. But he claimed it was at 8,000. The prices of food in Nigeria started to go up when the Naira started dropping in value from 2014 and not after May 2015.

CareerSalary Arrears Of 731 Former Staff Of Parastatals In Enugu Approved by OEPHIUS(op):
Ugwuanyi to offset salary arrears of workers absorbed into civil service

*Regularizes recruitment of 42 casual staff of ESUT Parklane Hospital

The administration of Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state has approved the payment of arrears of salaries to 731 former staff of some parastatals in the state, who were absorbed into the state’s civil service.

The state government also gave approval for the regularization of 42 casual staff of the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital (ESUT), Parklane, Enugu as permanent staff of the establishment.

The above approvals were part of the decisions taken at the meeting of the State Executive Council (EXCO) held at the Government House, Enugu.

Addressing newsmen after the council’s meeting, the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Ogbuagu Anikwe disclosed that a total of 731 workers, who are former staff of Enugu State Agricultural Development Programme (ENADEP), Sports Council and the Enugu State Broadcasting Service (ESBS), will benefit in the arrears’ payment.

The commissioner explained that “sometime in 2016, it was brought to the attention of government that there were some staff of parastatals who were absorbed into the mainstream of civil service, but were not properly captured, with the result that they now have arrears of salaries that were not paid and these parastatals include Enugu State Agricultural Development Programme (ENADEP), Sports Council and the ESBS totaling seven hundred and thirty-one workers”.

Mr. Anikwe further explained that a committee was set up in 2016 to tackle the issue, adding that most of the affected workers failed to show up for verification, which he said, necessitated another committee in 2017 that submitted the report, which the council considered and approved.

He disclosed that more than 10% of the affected staff have not been verified “and the council was of the opinion that a lot more work needed to be done, so that we can capture everybody and pay everybody at once”.

Informing newsmen that the total amount needed to liquidate the arrears was N284,96 million, the commissioner said: “Now what the council decided is that commitment to pay them, but for the meantime, just to help them cushion the effects of what they may be suffering at this moment, that 10% of what is owed would be paid while all efforts are made within a reasonable time to verify all the others and pay them so there is a commitment by the government to pay this sum of N284.96 million”.

On the 42 casual staff of the ESUT Teaching Hospital, Parklane, Mr. Anikwe noted that “it was agreed by council unanimously that the 42 casual staff should be employed now on a permanent basis”, adding that “their employment should be regularized from the date of their appointment. So what it meant is that there is a financial liability of N1, 127, 680 million per month or N13.5 million per annum and it was approved by council”.

PoliticsRe: 2019: CAN Prays For Ugwuanyi’s Re-election by OEPHIUS(op): 5:38pm On Mar 23, 2018
.

Politics2019: CAN Prays For Ugwuanyi’s Re-election by OEPHIUS(op):
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Enugu State chapter has offered special prayers for the re-election of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi in 2019 and God’s continuous favour on him to fulfill his heart desires for the state.

Rising from a “mega prayer rally”, tagged: “Enugu State is in the Hands of God”, which was attended by the leaders of the five blocs in CAN Enugu State, namely, Most Rev. Dr. Calistus Onaga of the CSN (represented by Rev. Fr. Dr. Donatus Onuigbo); Most Rev. Dr. Emmanuel O. Chukwuma of the CCN; Bishop Obi Onubuogu of CPFN/PFN; Rev. Michael Ebonine of OAIC and Rev. Emmanuel Edeh of ECWA/TEKAN, the chairman of the association, Rt. Rev. Christian Obiefuna in his address told Gov. Ugwuanyi that “your second tenure is in the Hands of God” and “it is safe with Him because you have acknowledged Him”.

Disclosing that the rally’s prayer theme “originated from the doctrinal and ideological principles” of Gov. Ugwuanyi, the Christian body commended the governor for his commitment to God and entrenchment of peace and good governance in Enugu State, stating that he pays workers’ salaries regularly, provides infrastructure and security, etc, in spite of “the dwindling economy” and “meager resources” of the state.

CAN Enugu State described Gov. Ugwuanyi as a “God-fearing” leader and stated that the association was “proud to identify with a man whose slogan is Enugu State is in the Hands of God”, saying: “Be assured of our support and supplications to God for a successful, peaceful transition and fulfillment of your heart desires for Enugu State”.

The body added that the prayer rally was “our own contribution to support the good governance in Enugu State under the supervision of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi”, stressing that it is imperative to ensure that the state continues to be in the Hands of God in “principle and practice”.

“Beloved, truly, Enugu State is in the Hands of God. It is imperative that our efforts should be that Enugu State shall continue to be in the Hands of God in principle and practice. CAN is not a political party and shall not act as such.

“Our role is to encourage all believers in Christ to fear and respect God in all our dealings in public and private for inheritance of eternal life and to pray for those in authority for good governance, as the heart of the king is in the hands of the Lord”, said CAN Enugu State.

While wishing the governor “a happy birthday and more fruitful returns”, the body prayed: “God will give you good life, good health, wisdom and understanding and show His mercies on you now and hereafter. As you have handed Enugu State to God, Enugu State is secured. Don’t relent in prayers and acknowledging Him because the best is yet to come as He will direct your path”.

Responding, Gov. Ugwuanyi, who thanked God for His grace in the state, also appreciated the leaders and members of CAN for coming out in their large numbers to pray for him and the success of his administration.

The governor revealed that God is the secret of his administration’s success, stating that “ever since we handed Enugu State over to God, we can see the hands of God in all we do”.

He expressed gratitude to members of all the churches in Enugu State and urged them to continue to remember his administration in prayers as it strives to take the state to the next level.

The event also witnessed prayer session by leaders of CAN blocs, praise worships, choir ministrations, among others.

PoliticsGov. Ugwuanyi A Trusted Leader, Says Bishop Onaga by OEPHIUS(op):
The Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Rev. (Dr.) Calistus Onaga, has commended the developmental projects launched across Enugu State by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi since his inauguration, describing him as "a good man and a man to be reckoned with".

Bishop Onaga, who made the remark during the inauguration of the main entrance dual carriageway to St. Patrick’s College, Emene, Enugu, rehabilitated by the school authorities, said that the college has benefited immensely from the governor's "kind gesture".

The cleric noted that prior to the intervention, the college's roads were riddled with potholes and other infrastructural deficits, appreciating Gov. Ugwuanyi for his giant development strides across the state, including the Airport-Orie Emene-Obinagu road that leads to the school.

"Gov. Ugwuanyi is a good man and a man to be reckoned with. We are proud of him because he is not a sectional leader. We are praying that God will continue to protect him to enable him to complete the myriads of projects he is embarking upon in Enugu State.

"The governor has asphalted many roads including the one leading to the school from the airport. He also handed over schools to missionaries thereby providing us the opportunity to support the government in giving succour to our schools. He has also been assisting us financially and morally and this school is not the only beneficiary of such gesture. C.I.C., Enugu, St. Theresa’s, Abor, among others are now wearing a new look”, Bishop Onaga said.

Also speaking, a prominent old boy of the school and former minister of power, Prof. Barth Nnaji, described the governor as a gentleman that has proved his mettle in all areas of governance since his accession to office.

Prof. Nnaji stated that road construction was the bedrock of all developments, adding that the governor is "doing marvelously well in this area despite the lean resources of the state," and has provided security, pays salaries, among others.

According to Governor Ugwuanyi who was represented by the commissioner for works and infrastructure, Engr. Greg Nnaji, the current infrastructural development in the state is consistent with his administration’s resolve to create more urban centres and decongest the capital city.

Engr. Nnaji added that new roads have been asphalted across the state, stressing that health centres have also been built, while places that lacked electricity are now enjoying the facility.

"We are all witnessing the conducive environment being provided by the current administration. Many investors are now coming because Enugu is a place you can sleep with your two eyes closed," he said.

Also inaugurated at the event were renovated dormitories and a host of other projects.

Music/Radio"Ponraele: A Ponmile Cover" By Kayefi: Another Promotion Of Domestic Violence by OEPHIUS(op): 12:04pm On Mar 18, 2018
In my previous article (more like scribbling) here https://www.nairaland.com/4075269/review-ponmile-reminisce-reference-domestic I spoke about how the track Ponmile by Reminisce although had a nice tone and was cool but the video missed it as it promoted domestic violence and such should not be promoted.

Now some people have done different covers and while some were great, others were not too good but this one by Kayefi struck me as needing attention. The video was cool too and they did their best to have a remake of the room in the original and the lyrics were fabulous.

Lines like "ta lo fe certification ofo?" meaning "who wants a isueless certification?" Which is a fight and stance against society saying a woman who is not married is not responsible.

"Toke Makinwa'n jaiye nigboro" meaning "Toke Makinwa is enjoying her life" which was refering to Toke Makinwa who divorced and is enjoying her life which implies that a woman can be divorce and be happy. Because as long as a marriage is not enjoyable and abuse has been introduced, the woman should not stay but chase her happiness.

But like Reminisce, she also went to show the woman being violent against the man. While a lot of people will claim it was just a shake, it is wrong. People need to learn to keep their hands to themselves and not be physical. Call the police, get a divorce but domestic violence against either the man or the woman should never be encouraged and Kayefi missed it in this video.

Personally, I will have preferred if violence part was removed totally and instead the woman reported her husband to the authorities and he is arrested and jailed. That us how to effectively respond to these thing not by descending down to the level of the attacker.

Romance"Dear Nice Guy, I Wasn’t Ready For You Before, But I Am Now" by OEPHIUS(op): 10:39am On Nov 20, 2017
Dear Nice Guy,

I don’t know you yet but I’m so ready to date you. Seriously, I am. For a long time, I dated bad boys. Yes, I was that girl you blame for always coming in last. I guess I dated bad boys because, somehow, I liked their unavailability, sexy sideways glances, and late-night calls. I fed off the chase and mystery they provided me. I saw them as a challenge that I always happily accepted. Let me tell you, I’ve dated so many jerks throughout the years. A lot of times, I ended up being disappointed with how it ended with them, and wondered why I always had such blind optimism about these guys I clearly knew were jerks to begin with. But to be honest, I don’t regret any of it now.

I learned a lot from each and every one of those bad boys. I learned something from every un-answered text, from every “I’m just not looking for a relationship” talk, and from every lame excuse as to why he just couldn’t make to my house party until after 1 am. I guess I never let the jerks get to me. I realized it was never me; it was always them. I was born with an abundance of self-confidence. Maybe that’s why I was never too bothered by each guy who was a jerk to me. Maybe it was because I was smart enough to realize I never actually wanted to end up with a jerk. It was always you I wanted, Nice Guy.

With all that being said, I’m ready to date a Nice Guy. I’ve learned all the lessons I need to learn from bad boys. I now have the ability to distinguish between when to give up on a relationship and when to fight harder. I know all the excuses and lies and can see when it’s right to say a big ‘f*ck you’ or an ‘okay, I’ll let you make it up to me.’ I know what it’s like get all dressed up for a night out only to sit in your room watching Netflix, crying and staring at your phone because the person you had plans with never showed. And that a “got too drunk sorry” text is not a sufficient excuse or apology. I know all these things. My mom always said that the problem with people who end up unhappy is that they don’t know how to walk away from something that has already served it purpose. Well, I can see now that bad boys have served all the purpose they possibly could in my life and that it’s time for me to learn a new lesson. I want to learn from you, Nice Guy.

It’s time for me to learn what its like to have someone to fall back on when I feel weak. It’s time for me to understand what its like to open up to someone without the fear that I’ll be emotionally shamed or that it will scare them away. It’s time for me to understand why people write love songs or tear up at the end of the notebook. I want to know what it’s like to be desired for more than my body, for someone to look at me with passionate eyes, slowly but surely falling in love with my mind, body and soul.

I want to know what it’s like to have someone who will always show up, who will always make time for me and who will always respect me. I want to know what it’s like to be able to count on someone, and know that even though love is never safe, I will be safely hurt by them. Mostly, I know I can learn all these things from you, Nice Guy.

I don’t want anyone thinking I hate bad boys. I don’t hate them; I’m just done with them. I have to thank bad boys for a lot actually. Bad boys have taught me how to depend on myself. How to pick up my broken pieces. They’ve allowed me to secure the perfect break-up remedy. Booze, friends, rebounds, cry, workout, acceptance, find new bad boy, repeat.

I understand myself so much better because of these bad boys. I know what I’m like at my worst. But I’m ready to know what I’m like at my best.

I promise you this, Nice Guy: I don’t know you yet, but I will be a nice girl to you in return. I will show you what you’re like at you’re best. I will treat you with the respect you deserve and will always answer your call when you need me. I will show you what all those bitchy girls couldn’t.

So, I guess all there is left to say is…

I’m ready whenever you are. TC Mark

AgricultureCassava: How Weed Management Affects Profitability. by OEPHIUS(op): 5:59am On Nov 06, 2017
Weeds are plants growing where they are not wanted. Many different types of weeds occur in cassava farms and cause considerable losses to the farmer. Weeds are among the major constraints to cassava production, and for cassava farmers to be successful, they must control weeds. Weed control in cassava can be done manually, mechanically, culturally, or chemically (use of herbicides). Manual weed control involves the use of hand/hoe. Mechanical weed control entails the use of motorised weeders. Cultural methods such as the use of cover crops, hand hoe, correct spacing, tillage, and cassava variety also help in the control of weeds. As we know, weeds compete with the cassava crop for nutrients, sunlight, and space. Weeds may harbor pests and diseases or physically injure cassava plants and storage roots. Weeds may also harbor natural enemies that control pests, so certain weeds can be left on cassava farms, provided they are not many enough to compete with the crop. The presence of weeds limits the productivity of cassava, and negatively impacts farming families. Weeding takes 50 to 80% of the total labor budget of cassava growers.

Field trials were carried out over a three year period to evaluate the effectiveness of hand-weeding frequencies and several herbicides for weed control in cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz). Uncontrolled weed growth caused 40% reduction in root yield of short, profusely branching cassava cultivar while a 68% reduction in root yield was observed in separate studies involving a tall non-branching cultivar. Two or three properly timed hoe weedings gave crop yields that were as good as keeping the plots weed free throughout the growing season. Although pre-emergence application gave good weed control and crop yield, the efficacy of these herbicides was greatly improved when 2 or more herbicides are tank mixed. Excellent crop yield was also observed per Ha basis. At current labour rates in Nigeria, it is cheaper to practise chemical weed control in cassava than to rely on hand-weeding even if the labour is readily available and the weeding can be carried out on time.

Chemical weed control is playing an increasing role in Nigerian agriculture due to the increasing cost and widespread unavailability of the labour required to carry out traditional practices. Nigeria’s drive towards increased food production must involve a systematic approach to weed control based on a good understanding of weed biology and ecology. The objectives of such an approach must be the development of effective control methods which are efficient in the use of available resources and within the reach of the farmers.

Weeds need light to be able to grow. They will grow on bare soil and where there is a lot of light. If there are already other plants growing and shading the ground, then weeds will not grow as well. They can develop from seeds or other parts of the plant that remain in the soil. Therefore it is important to prepare the ground properly before planting.
Management
The best way to control weeds in cassava farms is to combine different practices especially at land clearing, ridge preparation, planting and post planting stages of growing the cassava.

Prepare the land properly by slashing the bush before planting. This will reduce the frequency and labour of weeding the crop. Pull any weed from the land and near the land before planting.

Grow cassava varieties that suppress weeds. Early branching varieties form a thick canopy that shades the ground before too many weeds can grow.

Mulch cassava seed beds with dead plants. Use leaves from alley crops, leguminous plants and rice husks to cover the soil surface. This will block out light to the soil and make it difficult for weeds to grow.

Crop rotation reduces weeds.

Between the cassava plants grow other crops like grain legumes and vegetables to reduce the amount of bare

If you are planning to buy a TSTV Decoder, you might want to put it on hold. A Nigerian contacted Bein TV, one of the networks TSTV claim to have a broadcast agreement with and the company flat out denied TSTV or any other Nigerian Organization.
