…As Eha-Alumona endorses him for second term

Ugwuanyi also disclosed that he is a governor for everybody, irrespective of class, religion or political leanings.

He commended the Chairman of the state’s Internal Revenue Services, Prince Emeka Odoh, who is also an illustrious son of the community, for his outstanding performance in office, which he said was responsible for the significant increase in the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state.

Gov. Ugwuanyi added that it was because of the increase in the state’s IGR that his administration was able to pay June salaries of the workers without receiving the federal allocation for the month, stressing that “it is God’s doing”.

The governor also applauded the people of Eha-Alumona for the peace and unity in the community, reassuring them that his administration will continue to take measures that would address their needs and impact positively on their lives.

In an address presented by the Secretary of the Central Planning Committee, Barr. Rodrick Ugwu, the community commended Gov. Ugwuanyi “for the wonderful transformational job you are doing in Enugu State”, adding: “We are witnesses to the massive infrastructural revolution that your government is implementing in Enugu State”.

According to them, “we are impressed with your mastery of good governance. We have been reassured time and again by your actions that Enugu State citizens did not make a mistake in their unanimous choice in 2015. You have proven beyond reasonable doubt that you are an outstanding performer and achiever.

“Your immense humility, accommodation; your respect for other peoples’ views irrespective of their political affiliations, your magnanimity, generosity, fairness and equity to all and sundry know no bounds; you are indeed “Dunu Gburugburu” (all round leader).

A Chieftaincy title and an ‘Ofo’ (a symbol of authority) were conferred on and presented to the governor, respectively by the community after he was unanimously endorsed for a second term in office.

The Supreme Court, last week, upheld the nomination of Governor Ugwuanyi as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2015 governorship election in Enugu State.

Reacting to the development, the Chairman of the Forum, Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State, in a pre-meeting briefing at the Government House, Enugu on Sunday, told newsmen that the victory was "a confirmation that was already given by God from the day he stepped in as the Governor of Enugu State", adding: "We want to say that the Lord who started the journey with you will see you through in your two tenures".

PoliticsEnugu Govt. Sets Up Judicial Panel Of Inquiry Over Monarch’s Death by OEPHIUS(op): 5:04pm On Jun 21, 2018
…expresses grave concern

…assures measures to forestall reoccurrence

The Enugu State Government has announced its decision to constitute a Judicial Panel of Inquiry to find out the immediate and remote causes of the recent civil disturbances that occurred in Ogbozinne Akpugo Autonomous community in Nkanu West Local Government Area of the state, which led to the death of the Traditional Ruler, HRH Igwe Stephen Nwatu and destruction of property.

In a statement by the Commissioner for Chieftaincy Matters, Barr. Emeka Okeke, the state government expressed grave concern over the ugly and unfortunate incident, declaring that it “will not fold its arms and watch lives and property of its citizens being destroyed with brazen impunity”.

Barr. Okeke stated that the panel of inquiry will also ensure that the culprits are brought to book as well as “prevent a reoccurrence of this ugly incident”.

According to him, “government assures that further measures will be put in place to avoid a repeat of this sad incident in the said community or any other community in Enugu State as this is not in accordance with the peace and secure environment which this government has been working for assiduously”.

It would be recalled that Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi had during his recent unanimous endorsement for re-election in 2019 by all the traditional rulers of the 450 autonomous communities in Enugu State, observed a minute silence in honour of the slain traditional ruler.

The governor, who regretted the Igwe’s untimely death, disclosed that his administration will set up the panel to unravel the circumstances surrounding his demise to ensure that the culprits were brought to justice, and make recommendations that would deter future occurrence of such dastardly act.

Business7 Reasons Why You Need To Become A Zenith Bank Customer by OEPHIUS(op): 1:23pm On Jun 19, 2018
Being a customer of the numerous banks in Nigeria comes with different perks and challenges, as the sector itself is bedeviled with the infrastructural lapses inherent in Nigeria, however, of all the commercial banks; Zenith Bank has proven to be the pace setter not only in terms of innovation and infrastructural capabilities; the bank has remained shoulder high above them all since it was founded in 1990.

Zenith Bank currently ranks as the number one commercial bank in Nigeria not only in terms of customer deposits and profits, but in several other aspects of banking. Little wonder, retail and commercial banking customers including investors continue to do business with Zenith Bank.

Zenith Bank has continued to provide quality financial services to different sectors in Nigeria including some Key West African Countries, Asia and Europe.

PoliticsWarm Homecoming For Ugwuanyi, As Nwodo Describes Him 'best Performing Governor" by OEPHIUS(op):
...Kinsmen endorse governor for second term

....Confer on him Chieftaincy title of "Udulekenyi 1 of Orba Udulekenyi"

The former Governor of old Enugu State and National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo has declared Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as "the best performing Governor in Nigeria".

Dr. Nwodo also described Gov. Ugwuanyi as "a humble, indefatigable, humane and outstanding manager of men and resources, for the development of Enugu State".

Speaking during a Thanksgiving Mass and endorsement rally for Gov. Ugwuanyi by his kinsmen from Orba Udulekenyi in Udenu Local Government Area, the former Governor appreciated the various endorsements for the governor's re-election in 2019 from all spheres of the society because of his outstanding performance and uncommon leadership style, describing it as a good omen for the state.

He said: "We will not be tired of recalling and commending your performance; continue to pray for you and eulogize your uncommon leadership style".

Dr. Nwodo therefore, urged the people of Enugu State to ensure that they obtain their voters' cards and "join the winning train of the PDP for them to continue to enjoy the dividends of democracy in the state".

In his sermon, Rev. Fr. Emeka Ngwoke thanked God for what He has been using Gov. Ugwuanyi to do in the state, noting that "good leadership is truly manifesting in Enugu State".

The cleric appreciated the governor's humble and peaceful disposition as well as his close relationship with the lowly and neglected, saying: "For once, our state now speaks and thinks as brothers and sisters".

He expressed delight that the political division in the state in the past had gone since the emergence of Gov. Ugwuanyi's administration.

Rev. Fr. Ngwoke also thanked Gov. Ugwuanyi for tackling the economic challenges that confronted the state when he assumed office as a result of the state's high debt profile and the drastic drop in the nation’s crude oil prices.

He disclosed that the governor's civility, decency, vision, respect for all and exemplary leadership qualities made it possible for his administration to record the unprecedented feats achieved in the last three years.

He equally appealed to the people of Enugu State, especially adults who have not obtained their voters' cards to do so as "you are failing in your civic responsibility".

Endorsing Gov. Ugwuanyi for re-election in 2019, the people of Orba community, in an address delivered by the President General, Orba Udu General Assembly, Chief Charles Mbah, said they are proud of their "illustrious son and a worthy ambassador".

They maintained that the governor "with his usual characteristics as a prudent, accountable and judicious manager of resources", has in spite of the nation’s economic challenges, entrenched peace and good governance in Enugu State.

Gov. Ugwuanyi's kinsmen added that the governor, when other states could not pay workers' salaries and were consequently downsizing the workforce, was "recruiting additional workers, paying salaries promptly including the peculiar 13th month salary, which was paid across the entire Enugu State including to primary school teachers and local government Staff".

The Jubilant people also listed other remarkable achievements of the Governor in all spheres of development ranging from massive roads construction, rural development, empowerment, education, health, security, among others, stressing that "Your Excellency's good governance status has resulted in your endorsement and blessing for your second term in office across the state".

"It is against this background that Orba Udelekenyi is today giving her unalloyed endorsement /blessing to her illustrious son, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Nwa Orba Udu) to go back at the Lion Building come 2019 and finish up the good work he has started in the state", they declared.

Popular Nollywood actors at the rich and colorful event, namely Chief Pete Edochie, John Okafor popularly known as Ibu, and Rachael Okonkwo (Nkoli Nwa Nsukka), all praised Gov. Ugwuanyi for his good works, humility and commitment to the well-being of the people, declaring their firm support for his re-election in 2019.

Other dignitaries that graced the occasion include the Speaker of Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Edward Ubosi and his colleagues; Senator Chukwuka Utazi and other members of the National Assembly; the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo; member of the PDP Board of Trustees, Amb. Mrs. Justina Eze; State Chairman of the PDP, Hon. Augustine Nnamani; Chairman of Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council, HRH, Igwe Amb. As the 2019 elections approaches, different politicians have come with strategies to win the hearts of the electorates and here is first term senator from Ogun East Senatorial district and 2019 Governorship aspirant Buruji Kashamu doing his "best" to win the heart of the electorate and populace.

The factional leader of Ogun PDP (He was also a major supporter of the Ali Modu Sherriff faction), who is reportedly going to defect soon to actualize his 2019 gubernatorial aspiration was widely reported to have forced many politicians to swear oaths of allegiance and loyalty to him with charms and coffins around 2010 during Gbenga Daniel's administration

Is he doing the same for this people?

PoliticsJim Ovia, Ebenezer Onyeagwu Investments Fail To Save Zenith Bank’s Falling Share by OEPHIUS(op):
Investors in the capital market continue to show disinterest in Zenith Bank, as the attempt of the lender’s Group Managing Director, Ebenezer Onyeagwu, and Chairman, Jim Ovia, to save the firm’s falling share fail to convince shareholders.

Year-to-date, Zenith Bank share has lost -8.54% value in the capital market, according to Prime Business analysis, which means an investor who paid N25.15 million to buy 1,000,000 shares of the firm at the start of January at N25.15kobo per share, has lost N2.15 million in investment.

So lack of growth prospects in Zenith Bank is forcing shareholders of the firm to sell off their shares at lower price than they bought it, in a bid to save what’s left of their investment in the bank.

Aside from investors losing part of their investment to the sell off, it has also reduced Zenith Bank’s market valuation to N722.11 billion as at Thursday, against the N789.62 billion held early January – this is a loss of N67.50 billion in six months.

In order to prevent the continuous fall in Zenith Bank share value, the management have been buying large volumes, with Jim Ovia buying 2,000,000 shares between May 9 and May 11, through his investment company, Quantum Zenity Securities & Investment Limited.

The CEO, Onyeagwu, has also been busy in the capital market, purchasing 12.10 million shares last month. Note that the acquisition of shares by top directors at a firm is some management’s way of luring the capital market into buying or demanding for their share.

However, Ovia and Onyeagwu’s acquisition wasn’t convincing enough to investors, considering Zenith Bank share depreciated by -4.16% at the end of May, reflecting heavy investor pessimism, holding believe that the share will still fall.

Ovia, has also been affected by the downward trajectory in Zenith Bank, losing N10.88 billion in the last six months, as his investment in the lender dwindled to N116.42 million, from N127.30 billion.

While Onyeagwu lost N142.10 million during the same period, with his funds in Zenith Bank crashing to N1.52 billion, below the N1.66 billion he held, if all his investment in the last six months in the bank is pegged with current market price of N23.

She said: “We are here to donate drugs we received from our donor partner, the Vitamin Angel, to the Enugu State Ministry of Health for onward distribution to the 17 local government councils of the state. The drugs will assist them in the forthcoming Free Maternal and Child Health week.
“When we are doing this, we are not only helping the state but the nation and you must not be in government before you can help somebody. This Ugo Touch of Life Foundation is an age long organization. Even before I became the wife of the governor and it has been sustained because our donors know that we are honest, any drug they give to us we distribute to the designated beneficiaries, and this has made the exercise sustainable.

“The Vitamin Angel, our donor has those assorted drugs and they have been assisting us immensely, so whether I am in government or not, I must continue to impact positively on someone’s life”.

Also speaking, the state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr. Fintan Ekochin described Mrs. Ugwuanyi as a philanthropist who has been ameliorating the plight of the less privileged in the society through her pet project and other humanitarian gestures.

“Any time our First Lady and her pet project, U-TOLF call the State Ministry of Health, I am gladdened because I know that they have something to give to the state. They are rare philanthropists.
“This is actually selfless service in action. You realize that state government cannot do everything; there must be collaboration for us to succeed. The quantity of drugs here are adequate for the Free Maternal and Child Health week. You have saved the state between ten to fifteen million naira.

“The drugs are valid ones and the expiry date is very far. The ministry will share it accountably to the 17 local government areas of the state. Every local government will get seven and each one contains one thousand tablets, therefore, seven thousand children will benefit from the free drug. There are eighty bottles of de-worming tablets for eighty women in six months,” the commissioner noted.

The U-TOLF Consultant, Dr. Stanley Okere; the organization’s Head of Administration, Barrister Mrs. Onyinyechi Anichukwu; the Director of Pharmaceuticals, Enugu State Ministry of Health, Mr. Casmir Odo, among others, commended the First Lady’s gesture and urged the would-be beneficiaries to avail themselves of the opportunity to access free healthcare services in the state.#amokelouis

BusinessWe lied about GTBank, Supreme Court judgment – Innoson admits by OEPHIUS(op): 5:59pm On Jun 12, 2018
Innoson has today admitted that there was no Supreme Court judgement against GTBank.

After falsely claiming a victory at the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Chairman of Innoson Motors, Dr Innocent Chukwuma has admitted to completely distorting the directive of the Supreme Court and publicly apologized for spreading fake and malicious news.

Innoson had earlier deleted his declaration on social media that the apex court has ordered GTBank to pay him N14bn within 14 days.

This was followed by a statement by his spokesman Cornelius Osigwe in which Innoson walked back from his false declaration stating instead that “There have been a lot of misinterpretations on the Press Release published by Innoson Group on the decision of the Supreme Court”.

This retraction, judicial analysts believe, was advised by Innoson’s lawyers who fear that contempt of court charges on defaming the Supreme Court may be brought against the embattled businessman.

Last week Thursday, Innosoncaused a social and online media storm by falsely claiming that the Supreme Court had ruled in his favour for GTBank to pay him N14bn. However, records of the court proceedings showed no such ruling.

GTBank had also advised the public that Innoson’s claims were “false, mischievous and malicious”.

“There was no directive or Order issued by the Supreme Court of Nigeria to the Bank to make any payment to any of its debtor Customers. We again reiterate that there is no iota of truth in the falsehood being peddled by desperate and mischievous elements and the General Public should disregard same in its entirety,” part of the Bank’s press statement read.

As facts on ground became clear that Innoson’s claim on social media was entirely false, the embattled businessman moved to silently delete the Fake News Tweet from his company’s Twitter Account.

On Monday, June 11, 2018, innoson apologized for misleading the public.

However, Nigerians did not take the company’s lies lightly.

“I cannot believe this, how can someone have total disregard for the highest court in the Land and go on a rampage spreading fake news. This Innoson and his team of lawyers and advisers have no shred of credibility” a Twitter user said.

Another user, whose tweet appears below, lamented that Innoson had fooled Nigerians.

PoliticsEnugu Doctors Visit Gov. Ugwuanyi, Say They Are Proud Of His Achievements by OEPHIUS(op): 10:55pm On Jun 11, 2018
Medical Doctors in Enugu State for the first time in the history of the state on Monday paid a solidarity visit to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi at the Government House in appreciation of peace and good governance.

They expressed support for the governor, based on their objective assessment of his sterling performance in spite of the nation’s economic challenges and noted his strong commitment to God.

They observed that besides regular payment of salaries on 23rd of every month, massive infrastructural development across the three senatorial districts, and other people-oriented programmes in all spheres of development, Enugu State through Gov. Ugwuanyi’s meticulous financial management and commitment to public expenditure transparency, have been rated high as “among the only three states that have fulfilled obligations to their workers”.

The doctors added that Enugu is “one of the few states that can survive without federal allocations”, etc, saying: “We have come to identify with you; to tell you that we are happy and proud of you; to say that you have done well and we are in solidarity and in support of your administration to continue beyond 2019”.

In their remarks, the Chief of Staff to the Governor and Commissioner for Health, Dr. Festus Uzor and Dr. Fintan Ekochin, described the visit as unprecedented in the history of Enugu State, stressing it was a clear indication that the governor is doing well.

Dr. Uzor therefore advised the governor that “whatever you have been doing to earn this rare solidarity and support, may you continue to do it”, adding that “this visit will serve as a tonic for you to do more and much better”.

Responding, Gov. Ugwuanyi, who expressed gratitude to the doctors for the show of support and solidarity, narrated the various achievements of his administration in the Health sector, especially in the rural areas, and assured them that he will not take such gesture for granted.

Other doctors present at the event, comprising seasoned Medical Elders, Professors, Consultant Surgeons and Physicians, Resident Doctors etc include, Dr Arthur Chinedu Idoko (Coordinator Doctors for Gburus 2019); Prof. Hyacinth Onah (CMD Parklane Hospital Enugu); Rt. PoliticsGov. Ugwuanyi A Great Leader Always Close To The People, Says Dogara by OEPHIUS(op): 5:43pm On Jun 11, 2018
The speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara has extolled the leadership virtues of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, describing him as “an established leader” who is being celebrated widely because of his closeness to the people and effective delivery of dividends of democracy in spite of the nation’s economic challenges.

Speaker Dogara, a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), added that Gov. Ugwuanyi is “a very nice man to a fault”, who “wants to please everybody”, saying that he has “done exceptionally well” in office that members of the National Assembly in particular and the people of Enugu State “are exceedingly proud of what you have achieved”.

The speaker, who spoke during the grand reception for Gov. Ugwuanyi by members of the Enugu State National Assembly Caucus, said he was delighted at the governor’s popularity and humility “when I went to Enugu and I saw market women, I saw so many indigenes of that state coming to the Government House, dancing and singing”.

He disclosed that the people he saw were not rented crowds but those who were speaking from the bottom of their hearts, applauding Gov. Ugwuanyi for “investing in people”.

According to him, “Gov. Ugwuanyi is such a person that you will never meet in mansions when you go to Enugu. You will meet him among his people and that is where his heart is. And that is where the heart of a leader should be”.

Speaking on Gov. Ugwuanyi’s unprecedented achievements in spite of the state’s lean resources, Speaker Dogara while recalling the governor’s firm belief in the miracle of “five loaves and two fish” stated that “our brother (Ugwuanyi) who is a true leader is performing beyond expectation with the very little resources that he has”.

“Your Excellency, now that you have done exceptionally well, all the Enugu people are happy and they have decided to endorse you for a second term. When the people of Enugu State say that we are celebrating you, we are appreciating you; it means they are applying for more. So I wish you well. I know that you will continue to distinguish yourself creditably and define leadership in Enugu State”, the Speaker added.

In his remark, the Deputy Majority Leader of the Senate, Senator Bala Na’allah, who represented the President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki, also eulogized Gov. Ugwuanyi for his outstanding leadership qualities, saying that he “is one of the most decent and honest person I have worked closely with”.

He said: “I was with him in the Committee on Marine Transport and then he was with me when I chaired the Committee on Judiciary in the House of Representatives and then we developed a concept on how to deliver on our responsibilities transparently and efficiently.

“So I am not surprised when I hear the positive comments being showered on him in his duty as Governor of Enugu State. It is very rare and lucky to have someone like Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi superintending over the affairs of men more especially in this present day Nigeria.

“So, it is not for nothing that God gave you Ugwuanyi. Your responsibility is to ensure that you continue to sustain the 100 percent support that you have been giving him”, Senator Na’allah noted.

At the event, the Enugu NASS Caucus unanimously endorsed Gov. Ugwuanyi for a second term in office for his effective leadership and entrenchment of peace and good governance in the state.

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu on behalf of all the federal lawmakers from Enugu State, said the endorsement was predicated on the governor’s development strides and his leadership style characterized by justice, equity, and peace.

He said: “Governor Ugwuanyi has connected with the people of Enugu State in a very peculiar way. Today, communities have their Liaison Officers, and they execute projects. Everybody is part and parcel of government.

“Since 1999, we usually had crisis, troubles, and major misunderstandings any year preceding general elections. At times, we wondered if we would survive it. It happened in 1998, 2002, 2006, 2010, and it happened in 2014. But today, we are in 2018, and Enugu has been adjudged the most peaceful state.

“If you look around here, there are people from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu, and those from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). That is how we live in Enugu State. There is no discrimination, no division. We have 17 Local Government Areas in Enugu State. None of them is complaining of marginalization.

“There is also freedom in Enugu State. Governor Ugwuanyi does not take offence when people have cause to criticize him. He learns from the criticisms and he dialogues a lot. The judiciary is free and independent, working without fear or favour. That is what democracy is all about.

“Therefore, I have the mandate of the members of the Enugu State caucus at the National Assembly, and I also believe all our people who live in Abuja, to say that on account of the peace you have brought and all the work you have done for the last three years, we have no hesitation whatsoever in endorsing you for one more term in 2019”.

Responding, Governor Ugwuanyi, who appreciated the Enugu caucus of the National Assembly for their show of love and support, noted that the prevailing peace and cooperation between the federal lawmakers and his administration have resulted in numerous constituency projects and Federal Government interventions in the State.

He assured that the years of dichotomy now belonged to the past.

“We have become one people united by the determination to develop our State and we will continue to remain one family. With your support and prayers, I will continue to lead an Enugu State where peace, justice, and equitable development remain the watchword. We will continue to work together to build that same united, prosperous, and great Enugu State envisioned by our fathers”, he added..
