Defending champions Real Madrid will face Bayern Munich while Barcelona have drawn Juventus in the Champions League quarter-final draw. Leicester City, meanwhile, will face Atletico Madrid in a daunting tie for Craig Shakespeare's Premier League champions, while Borussia Dortmund will take on Manchester City's conquerors AS Monaco. Real Madrid progressed to the quarter-finals by virtue of a straightforward aggregate victory over Napoli, but they will have their work cut out against the German giants, who thumped Arsenal 10-2 on aggregate, winning each game 5-1. http://www.offkick.com/2017/03/bayern-munich-vs-real-madrid-juventus_17.html |
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho says he would have kept Angel Di Maria, Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck had he been in charge at the time of their departures. Goals have been a problem for United since the appointment of Mourinho, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic their only player to reach double figures in the Premier League this season. Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford have all struggled for form and fitness at times and the Old Trafford boss revealed he would have preferred to have more attacking options at the club. http://www.offkick.com/2017/03/louis-van-gaal-was-wrong-in-selling-di.html |
Paul Pogba is being unfairly criticised because of the size of his transfer fee and for regularly changing his haircut, according to former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves. The France international signed from Juventus for a world-record fee of £89.3million in August and has received mixed reviews for his performances since returning to Old Trafford. Pogba has struggled to impose himself on big matches but has scored seven goals in all competitions this season, with Hargreaves – as manager Jose Mourinho has done - insisting the 24-year-old is performing to a good standard. http://www.offkick.com/2017/03/pogba-is-being-judged-on-his-haircuts.html |
Manchester United and former Monaco striker Anthony Martial was very happy after his former club Monaco knocked out Manchester City to reach the Champions League quarter-final. The Ligue 1 leaders outclassed their Premier League opposition in the opening 45 minutes and led by two goals at half-time. Leroy Sane’s goal after the break put City back in the driving seat but Tiemoue Bakayoko’s thumping header with 13 minutes to go has fired Leonardo Jardim’s side into the last eight of the competition. http://www.offkick.com/2017/03/anthony-martial-celebrates-monacos.html |
Manchester City’s five goals at the Etihad Stadium in the first leg should have been enough to see them through to the next round of the UEFA Champions League, if history were any indication. Unfortunately, for the Citizens, it was not. Goals from Kylian Mbappe, Fabinho and Tiemoue Bakayoko cancelled out a Leroy Sane tally to give Monaco a 3-1 win in the second leg. With the score tied 6-6 on aggregate, City were eliminated on the away goals tiebreaker, 3-1. http://www.offkick.com/2017/03/manchester-city-and-pep-guardiola-set.html |
According to report from Daily Telegraph, Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint Germain have sent a five-page dossier and letter to UEFA complaining about the lacklustre and unjust refereeing during their 6-1 defeat against Barcelona. The report states that the French side have hired experts, former referees and other persons of footballing knowhow to analyse the controversial game that took place on the 8th of March 2017. PSG went into the game riding on the back of an impressive 4-0 win they racked up at the Parc des Princes in the first leg. Prior to the match, no other side had overcome a four-goal deficit in the Champions League, and the French side were expected to progress to the final eight. http://www.offkick.com/2017/03/psg-sends-five-page-dossier-to-uefa.html |

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has aimed a thinly veiled dig at his former club, Chelsea by suggesting that Paul Pogba deserved the man of the match award after Manchester United's defeat to Chelsea. Pogba had a night to forget at Stamford Bridge as he was outshone in the battle with countryman N'Golo Kante. Kante grabbed the winner in the FA Cup quarter-final tie , as he continued his march towards the Player of the Year prizes with another fine display. Yet in his post-match interview, the United boss suggested Pogba was the star of the show - although there will have been next to nobody in agreement. http://www.offkick.com/2017/03/paul-pogba-was-best-player-on-pitch.html |
Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann has been handed a €600 fine for sending a celebratory message to his wife for her birthday. The France international lifted up his shirt to wish wife Erika a happy birthday after scoring a brace in Atletico's 3-0 win over Valencia on Sunday. His t-shirt read 'Feliz Cumple Gordita' which means 'Happy birthday, chubby'. (It's a term of affection in Spain, OK?) http://www.offkick.com/2017/03/antoine-griezmann-fined-for-wishing-his.html |

Chelsea and Brazilian star Willian has a new haircut and his team-mate Eden Hazard was keen to show it off. With ten points clear at the top of the Premier League, the Brazilian decided to turned his trademark afro into cornrows for the Premier League run-in. Eden Hazard was on hand to accompany Willian as the Brazilian changed his look on Thursday. And the Belgian, like any good colleague, was full of praise for his team-mate's rather drastic new hair style. http://www.offkick.com/2017/03/eden-hazard-shows-off-willians-new.html |
Gerard Pique has warned Barcelona hospitals to be prepared for "a lot of lovemaking" after his club stormed back from four goals down against Paris Saint-Germain to claim the most shocking comeback win in Champions League history. Barcelona sensationally overturned a 4-0 deficit, claiming a last-gasp 6-1 win in Wednesday's return leg to trump Paris Saint-Germain 6-5 on aggregate. Leading 3-1 on the night but needing three more goals to advance to the quarter-finals, Barca completed the comebacks of all comebacks from the 88th minute as Neymar converted a free-kick and a 91st-minute penalty before unlikely hero Sergi Roberto sparked pandemonium on the pitch and in the stands in the fifth minute of stoppage time. And centre-back Pique believes many overjoyed fans will take their celebrations to the bedroom. http://www.offkick.com/2017/03/hire-more-nurses-because-therell-be-lot.html |
Ex-Manchester United first team coach Albert Stuivenberg has revealed that Louis van Gaal did little or nothing as Manchester United manager. Albert Stuivenberg worked under manager Van Gaal as a coach with the Dutch national team, and then joined him at Old Trafford for his controversial two years in charge. And Stuivenberg has lifted the lid on the eyebrow-raising division of labour at United. He explained: “The role Louis gave me at Old Trafford was unique. It was extraordinary that he gave me so much responsibility. He gave me his complete trust. http://www.offkick.com/2017/03/former-manchester-united-assistant.html |
In a possession drill that Barcelona are famed for doing best, their opponents have adapted the routine to their own taste. With Adrien Rabiot, Serge Aurier and Layvin Kurzawa all joining hands in the middle of a 17-man linked circle, the trio try their very best to intercept the ball. The mood is jovial – and you can hardly blame them with a 4-0 lead heading into Wednesday night's second leg at the Camp Nou. http://www.offkick.com/2017/03/paris-saint-germain-players-perform.html |
Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos wants Barcelona lose in the Champions League against PSG so he can "sleep more easily". Real Madrid booked their spot in the quarter-finals with a 3-1 win at Napoli on Tuesday completing a 6-2 aggregate success. Their fierce rivals Barcelona are facing a last-16 exit, trailing Paris Saint-Germain 4-0 ahead of their second leg at Camp Nou on Wednesday. http://www.offkick.com/2017/03/i-sleep-better-when-barcelona-lose.html |
