Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez was pictured smirking with team mates on the substitutes’ bench as five second half goals and a red card condemned Arsenal to seven years of European failure. Bayern Munich put ten goals past Arsenal over two legs to leave Arsene Wenger under mounting pressure as his £8m-a-year contract expires at the end of the season. And Sanchez who made plenty of headlines prior to Arsenal’s Champions League clash with German champions piled more misery on Arsenal as they were turned into a laughing stock after their Champions League humiliation. http://www.offkick.com/2017/03/alexis-sanchez-pictured-laughing-at.html |
Barcelona manager Luis Enrique believes Barcelona still have chances of reaching the Champions League quarter-finals at the expense of Paris Saint-Germain insisting they could score six goals in Wednesday's return clash at Camp Nou. The Catalans were hammered 4-0 in the first leg at the Parc des Princes, but Luis Enrique has not given up hope of staging a dramatic comeback. "We are only halfway through the tie," the outgoing Barcelona coach told a news conference. "There are 95 minutes left and lots of things can happen. http://www.offkick.com/2017/03/barcelona-can-score-six-against-psg.html |
Governor Rauf Aregbesola wasted no time in sending his farewell message to Arsene Wenger after Arsenal's 3-1 defeat to Liverpool on Saturday. Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Georginio Wijnaldum were on target as they sent the Gunners to the fifth spot in the English Premier League log. The politician who is a die hard fan of Arsenal expressed his displeasure with the managerial tactics of the Frenchman after his team bowed to the Reds. He took to Twitter to have a say on the future of Wenger after the humiliation at Anfield. http://www.offkick.com/2017/03/lolosun-state-governor-rauf-aregbesola.html |
Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger says Arsenal's players cannot choose the manager and will not be the ones deciding his future. Wenger called on his squad to perform and restore pride after the club lost four of their last six matches. The Frenchman wants to use Tuesday's Champions League last-16 second leg at home to Bayern Munich – a tie they trail 5-1 – as an opportunity to win over the supporters again. After denying he had been involved in a training ground bust-up with star player Alexis Sanchez, who started Saturday's defeat to Liverpool from the bench, under-pressure Wenger was clear the players had to focus on their jobs. http://www.offkick.com/2017/03/arsenal-players-cannot-sack-me-arsene.html |
Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Bournemouth defender Tyrone Mings has been charged with violent conduct by the Football Association after both clashed during Manchester United's 1-1 draw with Bournemouth on Saturday. The charge relates to two separate incidents that occurred during Saturday's Premier League clash at Old Trafford, which finished 1-1 after a Joshua King penalty cancelled out an opener from Marcos Rojo. After a number of tussles in the first period, Mings was seen to stamp on the head of Ibrahimovic, although the centre-back insisted after the match that the incident was purely an accident. http://www.offkick.com/2017/03/zlatan-ibrahimovic-and-tyrone-mings.html |

Zlatan appeared to deliberately elbow the Bournemouth defender amid a running feud between them at Old Trafford. Earlier in the game Mings’ studs connected with Ibrahimovic’s head. Shortly afterwards the elbow incident occurred. Both players denied there was any intention, however the FA may view it differently. http://www.offkick.com/2017/03/zlatan-ibrahimovic-set-to-miss.html |

Lionel Messi has played down the rumours suggesting his unusual 'telephone' celebration against Celta Vigo was a reference to his ongoing contract talks with Barcelona. Messi set tongues wagging on Saturday night after opening the scoring against Celta Vigo in a routine 5-0 win for the Catalan giants. The 29-year-old pointed to the stands as he walked back to the centre circle and made a telephone gesture to his ear - with some interpreting the signal as a message to the Barcelona boardroom. http://www.offkick.com/2017/03/revealed-see-real-reason-behind-lionel.html |
Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has denied saying that Cristiano Ronaldo has a licence to take it easy on the field, stressing that Real Madrid play - and run - as a team. The central defender had been quoted by certain media outlets as asserting that Ronaldo was the only Real player under no obligation to run during matches. But speaking on Saturday following the club's 4-1 win over Eibar, Ramos insisted there was no truth to those reports. "It is not true. You have to inform yourselves, look at the evidence and tell the truth. We got together at half-time against Las Palmas, what we talked about did not leave there and I am glad of that," he explained to reporters. http://www.offkick.com/2017/03/ronaldo-must-defend-like-everyone-else.html |
Lionel Messi has done it again!! The Argentine cemented his status as the best player ever to play football by scoring a stunning solo goal for Barcelona against Celta Vigo. The Barcelona talisman danced his way past several defenders before finishing emphatically. http://www.offkick.com/2017/03/lionel-messi-dribbles-from-half-field.html |
Barcelona manager Luis Enrique has announced he will step down as head coach at the end of this season. The 46-year-old's contract expires in June and he will not renew, citing the need for rest. He was thought to have previously come close to stepping away from the club at the end of a tumultuous first season in charge at Camp Nou, when he won a treble of LaLiga, Copa del Rey and Champions League titles. Luis Enrique confirmed the news in the wake of Barca's 6-1 win over Sporting Gijon on Wednesday, which, temporarily at least, took them above Real Madrid at the top of the table. http://www.offkick.com/2017/03/official-luis-enrique-to-quit-as.html |
According to the Sun, Chelsea bad boy Diego Costa has told Blues hierarchy that matching huge contract offers from clubs in the Chinese Super League is a pre-requisite for him to sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge. The report claims that the 28-year-old has been offered a £38 million-a-year deal to make the move to the Far East, and he wants the Premier League leaders to match what’s on the table before committing his future to Stamford Bridge. http://www.offkick.com/2017/03/diego-costa-wants-chelsea-to-match.html |

Manchester United could lose their star man Zlatan Ibrahimovic if they fails to qualify for Champions league next season. Ibrahimovic joined Manchester United last summer on an initial 12-month deal with the option of a second season but despite enjoying his so far short Premier League stint, he apparently has doubts over his future. Zlatan will turn 36 in October and he is said to think next season could be his last at the elite level. And that stance means he is desperate to have one final crack at winning the Champions League which is one trophy that has eluded him throughout his glittering career. http://www.offkick.com/2017/02/zlatan-ibrahimovic-to-quit-manchester.html |
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has described his side's Europa League last 16 clash with Rostov as a "bad draw in every aspect". United cruised into the second knockout round of the competition courtesy of a 4-0 aggregate win over Saint-Etienne, while Rostov made short work of Sparta Prague on their way to a 5-1 triumph over the two legs. Manchester United must now squeeze out time for trip to Russia into their already busy fixture schedule, and Mourinho believes that it is one of the worst scenarios his side could have been faced with in the draw. http://www.offkick.com/2017/02/jose-mourinho-not-happy-with-europa.html |

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has once again paid tribute to Claudio Ranieri, wearing a 'CR' initialled polo shirt during his press conference on Friday afternoon. The Manchester United manager had taken to Instagram on Thursday night to express his support for Ranieri, who was sacked by Leicester City after the 2-1 defeat to Sevilla. The Foxes find themselves in 17th place in the table, with the Italian having overseen the worst title defence, in terms of points on the board, in Premier League history after 25 matches. But Jose Mourinho, who himself was sacked after winning the title during his second spell with Chelsea, continued to back Ranieri, and even wore a 'CR' shirt in tribute to the former Roma manager. http://www.offkick.com/2017/02/jose-mourinho-pays-tribute-to-claudio.html |
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has posted a classy tribute message to his old foe Claudio Ranieri after the Italian was sacked by Leicester City. Leicester City made the announcement on Thursday evening, a day after the Foxes were beaten 2-1 by Sevilla in the Champions League. After their historic Premier League title win last season, Ranieri's side have struggled in the 2016-17 season and find themselves in 17th place in the table with just five league wins from 25 matches. http://www.offkick.com/2017/02/jose-mourinho-pays-classy-tribute-to.html |
Cristiano Ronaldo will reportedly join Angelina Jolie in a TV series about Syrian refugees. The Real Madrid superstar will be one of a number of celebrities who make a cameo appearance in the show. Jose Mourinho has again stressed that Manchester United are out of the Premier League title race, despite seeing his side prolong their unbeaten run to 16 games. United moved to within a point of fourth-place Manchester City - having played a game more - thanks to a 2-0 win over Watford at Old Trafford on Saturday. Goals from Juan Mata and Anthony Martial secured the victory that also stretched United's unbeaten league run to 16 matches, with their last defeat coming in the 4-0 thrashing by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Mourinho has been quick to highlight what he considers to be a much more defensive, counter-attacking approach from his old club this season and he believes that their style of play makes it unlikely that they will be caught at the top of the table. http://www.offkick.com/2017/02/very-defensive-chelsea-will-win-premier.html |
Defensive errors have haunted Liverpool all season as their title challenge fades away but against Tottenham on Saturday they seemingly hit upon a new masterplan. And it was weird. After racing into a 2-0 lead at Anfield thanks to two goals from Sadio Mane, the Reds were being put under pressure by their visitors, for whom Christian Eriksen is always a threat from set-pieces. And, presumably ordered to do so by Jurgen Klopp, when Liverpool were required to defend a free-kick from Eriksen on the edge of the box, Philippe Coutinho took up a bizarre position crouched BEHIND the wall. http://www.offkick.com/2017/02/lolphilippe-coutinho-introduces-new-way.html |
The mother of Manchester City wonder boy Gabriel Jesus has slapped a kissing ban on her 19 year-old son. Jesus has been a huge hit since his arrival from Brazilian club Palmeiras last month but any girl hoping to get close to the £27million goal-scorer will have to tackle his mum first. She has travelled from South America to look after her teenage son in Manchester. http://www.offkick.com/2017/02/manchester-city-wonder-boy-gabriel.html |

Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has shown his charitable side once again by stepping in to help 80 dogs housed in a shelter facing financial difficulties, according to reports in his home country of Portugal. Ronaldo who turned 32 last week, has often been praised for his charity work, topping a list of the world’s most generous athletes in 2015. Ronaldo’s latest act of kindness came in response to a request from Cantinho da Lili, a dog rescue centre based in Gouveia which has struggled to meet veterinary bills of up to €2,000. http://www.offkick.com/2017/02/cristiano-ronaldo-steps-in-to-rescue-80.html |
Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has dismissed speculations concerning Manchester United’s move for Antoine Griezmann by labeling the Red Devils as a ‘small team’. The 25-year-old has emerged as the Red Devils' chief transfer target this summer, with reports in France claiming he has agreed terms with the Premier League side over an end-of-season switch while Griezmann’s adviser admitted yesterday that a move to Old Trafford would be ‘ideal’. However, Atletico are keen to hold on to Griezmann and will not sell him for a fee below his €100million release clause. http://www.offkick.com/2017/02/atletico-madrid-president-mocks-small.html |
Former Chelsea captain Marcel Desailly says it is time for John Terry to call time on his Stamford Bridge career after falling out of favour this season. Terry has been an integral member of Chelsea's defence for over a decade but has slipped down the pecking order under Antonio Conte. The Italian coach favours a three-man defence consisting of Cesar Azpilicueta, David Luiz and Gary Cahill, which has seen Terry relegated to the substitutes bench. The Chelsea skipper has made just nine appearances this season and with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, Desailly believes Terry should leave - just as he had to 13 years ago. http://www.offkick.com/2017/02/your-time-is-up-at-chelsea-chelsea.html |
Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates was reportedly contacted by Liverpool regarding a potential takeover when the club were attempting to push American businessmen Tom Hicks and George Gillett out of the club. In legal documents relating to a court battle between Mill Financial, Gillett and the Royal Bank of Scotland, it has been revealed that Gates, who is worth an estimated £68.3 billion, was contacted but never responded to the offer. According to the Liverpool Echo, New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, who celebrated his team winning their fifth Super Bowl title last Sunday, was also contacted. http://www.offkick.com/2017/02/revealed-world-richest-man-bill-gates.html |
Manchester United star Paul Pogba has paid £2.9m for a swanky five-bedroom Cheshire mansion that was up for sale at £3.49m. Pogba, famous for his 'dabbing' goal celebrations rejoined Manchester United from Italian champions Juventus in a record £89m transfer last summer. The Frenchman will enjoy luxuries that came with the home including a heated indoor swimming pool, saunas, and his own media room.
