Jadentica: Well I'm here to tell you the context in which Teni used it is insulting...
Omoibo is insulting to the Igbo man. Take this to the bank and cash it.. That's the honest truth.
It's just that the Igbo man has adjusted to that insult and calls the Yoruba man an ofe mmanu right away when that exchange takes place.. I don't know who you're to generalize or talk in position of all Igbo men I'm just talking from a Yoruba perspective that omo IBO isn't an insulting word Good morning |
TV/Movies › Re: BBNaija 2020 Live Updates Thread by OffsahBoye(m): 12:05pm On Sep 24, 2020 |
Jadentica: [/b]
Well that's different only if you're being asked, not when you blatantly refer to the person as an omoibo or ofe mmanu just to ridicule his persona..
By the way I'm not an Igbo boy...I like the tribe no doubt, but I like my tribe better. Thank you.
I'm not a bigot like you! Me a bigot?? Wow Well I can't help but laugh, if you have as many friends who are Hausa's and IBO's as I do you'll appreciate the oneness in Nigeria,I have no reason being a tribal bigot cause of where I find myself,no how I'll succeed in my path if I dare tow that path But what do I know, maybe you have a reason for calling me a bigot, you're free to your opinion |

Jadentica: Hei God!
How can you say Teni didn't use it as an intent to insult?.... And how sure are you she did?? I've watched the video and I just decided not to talk about her intent What I only try to argue here is that omo ibo Isn't an insulting word but it means IBO son Tenis choice to use it is her problem Am not her and I don't know if she deliberately used it to insult her or not |
TV/Movies › Re: BBNaija 2020 Live Updates Thread by OffsahBoye(m): 11:52am On Sep 24, 2020 |
Jadentica: Why refer to the region when talking to the person?
Unless the conversation has an ethnic undertone, anything short of that is mockery.
You can't see an Igbo man and say "Hey omoibo" There are conditions wherw we have no choice than to refer to our tribe Why did they have to tell us their state? In a situation where someone asked me if I know you and where you're from, I can say he's jadentica a Nairalander and an ibo boi Did I insult you or your tribe? |
TV/Movies › Re: BBNaija 2020 Live Updates Thread by OffsahBoye(m): 11:48am On Sep 24, 2020 |
Sashaberry: You can call your friends Omo Igbo in a context where you don't intend to ridicule him or make jest I will prefer you to leave tribe when interacting with someone who you aren't close with. Can you meet an individual in the public and you know fully well the person is Igbo and you call the person "Omo Igbo" ?? No na The thing is just about intention But omo IBO isn't insulting if not used with an intent to, and that's what I've been saying But do we know Tenis intention,we can't say she used it to insult neither can we say she didn't The thing is just to know that except there's a tribal undertone to insult, omo IBO isn't insulting Its just a Yoruba word for an ibo son |

I thought it was all bants and fun till you trolled a HM's dead father just because others did it and now his health status.Don't you have some form of decency, humanity or compassion in you?You condemn others for coming at Erica but cheer her in her moments of madness, selective blindness much?I do hope that whatever it is you're going rn that's turned you into a monster will pass real soon.Because my dear, if you go on like this you will end up in a psych ward lonely, bitter and frustrated.

Jadentica: Omo nna and omoibo means the same thing when insulting the Igbo man...
Yorubas know that very well. At the end, the aim is to mock, nothing else.. I disagree with using omo ibo to mock So if I wanto refer to your origin as a Yoruba boy and you being ibo How best would I have said it, since calling you omo ibo in insulting |
TV/Movies › Re: BBNaija 2020 Live Updates Thread by OffsahBoye(m): 11:37am On Sep 24, 2020 |
Sashaberry: I repeat Omo Igbo is not an insult Omo Igbo is not an insult Omo Igbo is not an insult
But the context in which it was used is an insult
Get that straight and stop portraying yourself as an object of ridicule I shouldn't have quoted but I have no other means of directing the question to you If as an ibo indigene,me as a Yoruba wants to refer to your origin, How best would I have said it?without saying omo ibo pls |
TV/Movies › Re: BBNaija 2020 Live Updates Thread by OffsahBoye(m): 11:32am On Sep 24, 2020 |
Jadentica: Yes they are all insults. If teni had called her omo nna(insulting to an extent) or okoro or any other word(I'm not really conversant with all this tribal abuse, why I stopped visiting politics thread as usual) then it'd have been an insult But for crying out loud Omo means son I don't know what son is in IBO So as a Yoruba its justifiable to use omo ibo to call an IBO person since I don't know what omo means in ibo language |
TV/Movies › Re: BBNaija 2020 Live Updates Thread by OffsahBoye(m): 11:25am On Sep 24, 2020 |
Jadentica: 1)Ofe manu is an insulting word used by the Igbos to mock Yorubas oily soup.
2)Omoibo is an insulting word used by the Yorubas to mock the Igbo person
Inyamiri is an insulting word used by the Hausa to mock the Igbos.
Aboki is an insulting word used by all to mock the Hausa man.
Ewu awusa is an insulting word used by the Igbo to mock the Hausa.
3)Igbati gbati is an insulting word used by the Igbo to mock the Yoruba.
Akpan/Ekaete is an insulting word used by all to mock Calabar people..
Abeg I don tire for this nonsense conversation. I just hate when people are tribalistic that's all.
If y'all feel there's nothing wrong, well na una own cup of coffee..What goes around comes back around. Shikena! 1)that means being called Ofe mmanu Is an insult 2) I beg to disagree, okor* would have been a better abuse than omo iboUnless you agree that calling someone omo Yoruba is an insult to Yoruba's,and I'll tell you it isn't unless the person isn't a proud Yoruba son, calling someone omo ibo isn't an insult, cause I see no reason getting angry by being referred to as the true son of your tribe Is it new that during disagreement, one can easily beat his chest and say I'll show you I be confirm/real omo Yoruba/ibo (so is the person abusing himself) 3)that means being called igbati igbati is an insult If any words is being twisted to insult or abuse its an abuse, without mincing words If teni had used inyamiri or okor* then we can say its an insult literally But calling her omo ibo isn't a literal insult, its because of the situation we find ourselves that made it seem an insult |
TV/Movies › Re: BBNaija 2020 Live Updates Thread by OffsahBoye(m): 11:04am On Sep 24, 2020 |
Koolface4u: Teni called Erica “omo Igbo,” you are getting angry because this is Twitter.
Offline, people call people “Omo igbo” “Aboki” “Alhaja” "Omo Yoruba" etc and we all live in peace but once it’s Twitter, you all be moving mad and stupidly sensitive because you have 10mb data. Oshisco.
#AllvoteforLaycon Exactly my point Have never seen where omo Igbo has been insulting in real life except online Isn't it same Nigeria that I'm in Hausa's use their village name as part of their name and we call them with their village name They call me omo Yoruba, most of my course mate don't even know my name, but am easily describable by the omo Yoruba tag and I don't pick any offence (I'll be stupid to,since am truly omo Yoruba) And the ibos too get called omo IBO So where's all this fuss coming from |

Can you say you are proudly "ofe mmanu?
Because that's the insulting word Igbos use for Yorubas just like the Yorubas call Igbos omoibo or Okoro.. I do not know what Ofe mmanu is I didn't grow up where tribalism thrives Have lived with ibos from secondary sch to uni and I think we call them omo Inna if we don't want to use omo igbo, which isn't even insulting And have never been in a situation where igbos use insulting words to refer to my tribe I mixed with Igbo's mostly in my uni days and there has never been a time calling ourselves omo ibo or omo Yoruba caused a fight I've been wondering lately if what's happening online is the true picture of how Nigeria society is offline Because here, you can call someone omo ibo without any eye brow being raised(unless such person isn't proud of his tribe) And while up north I carry the omo Yoruba tag with pride cause it's my heritage |

Iamgrey5: You can even be togolese Japan for all we care.
When I was serving in Aba I was called Yoruba boy on multiple occasions, my roommate who is an Ibibio from Akwa ibom was referred to as Calabar boy by the landlord who is an igbo man.
So I don't necessarily see how "Omo igbo" is a tribal word which translates to igbo child or igbo girl or boy depending on the context.
And for your information, The equivalent of inyrimi in Yoruba is "Ajeokuta mamu omi" meaning those that can eat stones without drinking water. I don't know what the fuss is all about I schooled up north in an institution where all part of the country are well represented And there's nothing wrong in calling someone by the tribe he/she comes from We call our Igbo brothers that are closer to the Yoruba's omo Igbo The igbos call us omo Yoruba when you get close to them Even some Hausa's bear their village name as their second name So I see no reason why calling someone by his tribe is an insult Am proudly omo Yoruba and nothing changes when am being called that by my Hausa or Igbo brothers |

Simran94: No Kidd didn't use his head at all. He shot himself in the foot from the first or second week when he told the housemates that he hired a private jet worth 3 million plus from Abuja to Lagos that took him to Bbnaija. A lot of people didn't really know about his billionaire status until he started showing off and talking about those things. I can assure you that if Kidd had acted humble without mentioning all those things of the private jet or his father taking 15 governors to London for his birthday and all, he would have gained a lot of fans as per "The humble billionaire" a lot of people would have voted for him at least to enter top 5. word |
