The Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Ebonyi State chapter, Dr. Austin Ikwudinma, has appealed to lawmakers of the state House of Assembly to urgently pass into law the “Medical Anti-Quackery Bill”, in order to stem the upsurge in maternal/child morbidity in the state.

Ikwudinma made the appeal in Abakaliki during a “Road Walk” organised by the association to sensitise the citizenry on routine immunisation, as part of activities marking its 2017 Physician Week.

He decried the increase in medical quackery in the state, stating that “medical quackery is a very serious issue. The state NMA has declared war against medical quackery, we have presented a bill to the House of Assembly since 2012 and no action is taken.


“There is no law to prosecute quacks who have infiltrated the medical profession, how can you prosecute them since there is no existing law to prosecute offenders.

“We have gone behind the scene and we are told we have not done the needful, are we going to pay anything extra apart from the one we paid earlier? When the bill is passed into law whose interest it, is it for NMA interest? Our members can never fall into the hands of quacks, it is for the poor masses”, he stressed.

Continuing, he said: “In July 2017, we clamped down on a medical outfit purportedly managed by a quack in Afikpo community of the state called “Victory Hospital” and closed the hospital, but the fake doctor escaped through the fence, the doctor was protected by the villagers.


“Government needs to act more and members of the state House of Assembly need to wake up to their responsibilities by offering quality representation, and the protection of lives of the citizenry,” he submitted.


According to him the wave of medical quackery in Ebonyi State and Nigeria in general is increasing and taking multifaceted dimension. “Today every health worker is a clinician, prescriber, and promoters of medical quackery, which poses a threat to the realisation of adequate health care delivery in the State.

He described the 23 per cent immunization coverage in the state and the country in general as unacceptable, emphasising that immunisation was a solution to the menace of killer diseases in children.

The NMA boss expressed worry over the purported rumour of injecting unapproved vaccine in children across the country, maintaining that it was difficult now to carry out any form of immunisation as parents and caregivers have opposed any form of immunisation on their children/wards.

“The danger now is that those diseases we thought that we have phased out in the country will start coming back, diptarrah, measles, malaria, and these diseases are no respecter of persons, both the poor and rich would suffer it,” he cautioned.

Ikwudinma described as abysmal the level of funding health institutions by the Federal Government, enjoining the authorities to prioritise its needs.

“If we prioritise things, why is it that our political leaders still travel abroad to seek for medical care, when that health care they are seeking for abroad can be brought down to the country. The money spent for those travels is enough to construct a cancer Centre of excellence in the country,” he declared.


The NMA boss urged the government to design job descriptions and job specifications among various health sector operators, to curb the problem the frequent rivalry among health practitioners.

However, we also tend to overlook “nice guys” and choose the “bad boys.” It’s not that we want to be treated like shit or anything, but “bad boys” are just more interesting and mysterious—their confidence is attractive and sexy.

Subconsciously we ignore the fact that there is a higher probability that they might hurt us, but we choose them anyway, hoping that “this guy
will be different.” The same way a lot of us tend to choose bad guys, we tend to ignore nice guys.

Paradoxically, if you show us ladies that you are confident in yourself, and that you can say “no” to us from time to time, we will start to notice you more. How weird does that sound…don’t be too nice to that hot girl you’re interested in.

You just aren’t her type
From what I have noticed, guys are a little more flexible when it comes to the “types” of girls they are interested in. If a girl is hot and isn’t too annoying and can actually hold a conversation, usually a guy will at least ask her for her number or out on a date, but for us ladies it’s more complicated. We are pretty particular when it comes to the “types” of men we are interested in: don’t take it personally.

For example, if she’s only into older guys, she won’t be afraid to put younger guys into the friend zone. If she’s into professional types with money, she isn’t going to be impressed by a teacher. If she’s only into tall muscular guys, then she’s not going to be impressed by the small, intellectual type. If she wants something serious but you are a total man-LovePeddler who can have anyone— she will friend zone you too, and so on.

Usually even our closest friends aren’t aware of the types of guys we are into. If we meet a guy who is cute and interesting, we might be flattered that he’s into us, but probably wouldn’t let him out of the friend zone

You should project yourself as a potential boyfriend
No matter what you think of when you think of us ladies, you have to remember that we have an animal side as well. If we see a guy that’s smart, supportive, and willing to do things for us without anything in return, of course we are going to be friends with him? Who wouldn’t be?

But if you reading this article you’d probably rather be a boyfriend, or at least a friend with benefits. I would suggest showing that hot girl you’re interested in more of your masculine
side. Show her that you’re confident and that other women are interested in you. If you are only interested in that one girl that has put you in the friend zone, don’t limit yourself to
only her company. Go out with the other girls and show her that other women find you desirable and enjoy your company. A feeling of competition between us ladies is always a turn-on.

You’re making it too easy
Humans often continue to act like children into adulthood. Similarly, like children, if the same old toy that we are comfortable with is always around, we get bored. What we really want is a new toy, a toy that other people want to play with. Sorry for this metaphor, but I’m afraid it’s the closest way to illustrate the truth.

If you want a girl, you can’t always be there for her. We ladies are players too, and we want to know that we have to put in some effort. If a guy is too obvious with his feelings, sometimes we get freaked out and demote him.. Learn to say no to her from time to time. Being aware of the potential reasons why you’ve been “Friend Zoned” may help you solve the problem and take your relationship to the next level.

The inventor of a sex robot, Sergi Santos, has revealed he was ready to make babies with his creation, Samantha.

Santos who lives with his wife, Maritsa Kissamitaki, in their Barcelona home says he is ready to take the next step with his plastic partner and boasts that it would be “extremely simple”.

Santos in an interview with UKSUN made this shocking revelation where he said he nurtured the idea that people would soon start having a family with robots.

Sergi said, “I can make them [sex robots] have a baby. It’s not so difficult. I would love to have a child with a robot.

“Using the brain I have already created, I would program it with a genome so he or she could have moral values, plus concepts of beauty, justice and the values that humans have.

“Then to create a child with this robot, it would be extremely simple. I would make an algorithm of what I personally believe about these concepts, and then shuffle it with what she thinks and then 3D print it.”

There are strong indications that ASUU will continue with their strike by the middle of next week due to FGN’s inability to fulfil the promises it made in the Memorandum of Action between the union and FGN signed on the 17th of September this year.

In the MoA, the FGN urged ASUU to suspend their strike with the promise of meeting all the demands contained (in the MoA) on or before the 31st of October. Barely 10 days to the deadline, these promises have yet to be fulfilled by the FGN.

The just concluded 30th anniversary celebration of Akwa Ibom State took a new dimension last weekend, in Uyo, with the arrest of two indigenous tourism consultants to the week-long events.

Ini Edo, accusing the tourism experts of ‘stealing’ her idea of Ibom Fest, which was cancelled last year.

In a petition to the Police, Edo alleged that Utin and Ekpe sold the idea of Ibom Fest to the State Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and renamed it “Orange September” the official brand of the 30th anniversary of the State.

Instead of petitioning Akwa Ibom State Government or demanding the arrest of the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Rt. Hon. Victor Antai for allegedly stealing her initiative, the Governor’s Aide however resorted to sending the Police after the tourism consultants. These are same consultants who have been promoting the cultural heritage of the State both at the national and international scene.

Ini Edo is said to have met with Non governmental organizations, corporate organizations, groups and individuals, who had agreed to sponsor the botched Ibom Fest and collected millions of Naira from the sponsors and disappeared without paying her consultants, Joseph Utin and Ubong Ekpe or accounting for the said money.

Angry over the success of the anniversary celebration, which she was not part of, Ini Edo went to the Police and ordered the arrest of her former consultants on a flimsy excuse that they sold her initiative of Ibom Fest to the State Government.


Ini Edo, a native of ONNA, the same local government with Governor Udom Emmanuel, who she is currently serving as Special Assistant, reported the matter to the Police Force Headquarters in Abuja, which in turn, ordered its officers in Akwa Ibom to arrest the two consultants in Uyo on Thursday.

The tourism experts will be flown to Abuja tomorrow for prosecution.
At the State Police Command’s Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia, yesterday, the consultants debunked the claims by Ini Edo and described the petition as baseless.
