A 34-Year-Old Woman Identified As Bidemi Damilola has been found dead in a shallow canal a few steps away from a piggery farm in the Mabolufon area of Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

PUNCH Metro learnt from the Ogun State Police Command that the deceased had gone missing before her lifeless body was finally found on Friday.

The deceased’s husband, Adekunle Fetiga, who had led the search, immediately approached the Igbeba Police Division in the area to report the incident.

The command stated that Fetiga claimed the family became concerned when the wife, who had left home on Thursday, did not return.

PUNCH Metro also learnt that the circumstances leading to the death of the woman were unclear, but the police said a plastic bag containing an unidentified liquid substance was found at the scene.

The command also declared that two pairs of slippers suspected to belong to the deceased were found just beside the shallow canal.

Our correspondent further gathered from the police that although there were no signs of violent marks on her body, an investigation had since commenced to unravel the circumstances of her disappearance and subsequent death.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, who spoke exclusively to PUNCH Metro on Sunday, said, “A preliminary investigation has commenced. Once completed, the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

“In the meantime, the body has been taken to the State Hospital Mortuary in Ijebu-Ode for an autopsy.”

Another Female Student Of The University Of Port Harcourt has been found dead in her apartment in Aluu, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The Student simply identified as Adaeze is said to be a 200-level undergraduate of Accounting.

Adaeze’s lifeless body was found on Friday, in her off-campus residence in Aluu, a community near the university.

The cause of her death could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report on Monday.

This came barely two weeks after the decomposing body of a 300-level undergraduate of Biochemistry, Justina Otuene, allegedly killed by her ex-lover identified as Damian Okoligwe was found in the latter’s residence along NTA Road, Ozuoba in Obio/Akpor LGA.

Okoligwe, a 400-level student of Petrochemical Engineering also in UNIPORT has since been arrested by the police.

Speaking on the latest incident, the Dean of Student Affairs, UNIPORT, Chima Wokocha, said the lifeless body of the student was found in her off-campus residence and brought to a health facility in the school by some of her neighbours.

Wokocha said the management of the institution and the police had visited the scene of the incident, adding that the parents of the late female undergraduate had also been notified of the incident.

He stated, “Her body was brought to the Chief Lulu-Brigss Health Centre by people who live around her in her lodge.

“She didn’t die in the university hostel. She died in her off-campus residence in Aluu and the scene of the crime was visited by the management of the university, including my humble self.

“The police were there with us also. We acknowledge the fact that she had taken a substance and passed out because there was a bottle of a substance that was found by her side.

“The parents have come there and I think they are making arrangements to take the body.”

When contacted, the spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident, saying that investigation has commenced to ascertain the circumstances leading to her death.

Iringe-Koko stated, “The Divisional Police Officer said a landlord came to report that he saw his tenant on the ground.

“So the DPO went there, they saw foam coming out from her nose and mouth and they also saw an insecticide close to her (the student).

“So they rushed her to the Hospital where she was confirmed dead. Investigation is ongoing to find out the circumstances leading to her death. “

Umar Ibrahim, The Village Head of Dan Gulam in Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State, has been accused of raping, impregnating and infecting a girl with HIV.

This was made known via a letter dated October 16, 2023, and addressed to the Secretary of Dutse Emirate Council by the Senior State Counsel in the Jigawa State Ministry of Justice, Kabiru Abdullah, titled: “Notification of arraignment of Umar Ibrahim (Village Head of Dan Gulam) on the offense of rape contrary to Section 3 (1) (A and D) of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law 2021.”

According to the letter, Kabiru Abdullah said, “I have been directed by the Attorney General of Jigawa State to write and notify Your Highness that a complaint of rape and infection with HIV was lodged at the Office of the Attorney General by one Ya’u Muhammad in which he alleged that Umar Ibrahim (Village Head of Dan Gulam) engaged his daughter in illegal sexual intercourse which resulted in her pregnancy and infected her with HIV.”

The letter explained that upon receiving the complaint, parties were invited, and in the course of discussion with the Attorney General, Umar Ibrahim (the village head) revealed that he had filed a case of defamation against the girl, her father and one Sule Umar of Dan Gulam village before the Upper Shari’a Court in Gwaram.

It further explained that the attorney general directed for the case at the Upper Sharia Court, Gwaram, to be taken over, and all parties were referred to the CID in Dutse for investigation.

After the investigation by the CID, the letter explained that the case diary was sent to the Ministry of Justice for legal advice, saying that the legal advice was given, and it revealed prima facie a case of criminal conspiracy and rape was made against Umar Ibrahim, who, to the attorney general’s greatest dismay, is the Village Head of Dan Gulam in Gwaram Local Government Area.

It stated that in view of the above fact and that he would soon be arraigned before a court, stressing that based on the foregoing fact, the attorney general directed him to write and notify the village head of the position of the case for appropriate steps to be taken.

Reports indicated that there was pressure on the emirate to sweep the issue under the carpet despite appeals and the state government’s intervention through the office of the attorney general.

The family of the girl has called on civil society organizations and non-governmental organizations to intervene in the matter to save the girl’s life and to ensure justice is served.

The village head denied the allegation, saying that he was not the person who impregnated the girl.

He confessed that he is HIV positive and had it for the past 10 years when he married an infected widow, pointing out that that is why they are bringing that girl who has the virus and is pregnant to lay false allegations, but he swears that he didn’t do it.

A Catholic Priest, Rev. Fr. Samson Emokhidi, under the Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja, has been declared missing.

A Statement signed by the Chancellor of the Archdiocese, Fr Sam Tumba, stated that the priest disappeared ‘without any trace’ after leaving his residence on October 1, 2023, and has not been seen nor heard from ever since.

According to the statement dated October 30, 2023 and addressed to "All Priest, Religious and Lay Faithfuls” the matter has been reported to the local civil authorities who have initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.

It also urged anyone with useful information concerning the whereabouts of the priest to contact the Chancery or the necessary authorities.

“This is to inform the entire Archdiocese family about our brother and Priest Rev. Fr. Samson Emokhidi, who left the house on Sunday 1st October, 2023 at about 20.45pm,” the statement read.

"He left without any trace and has not been seen or heard from since then.

"The matter has been reported to the civil authorities who have since commenced investigations.

"The Archbishop and the Auxiliary Bishop request that we remember him in our prayers and if anyone has useful information regarding his whereabouts to kindly contact the Chancery.

“Thanking you in anticipation of your cooperation in this sensitive matter. Praying God to bless you and your work.”

As at the time of filing this Report, the Chancellor, Fr. Tumba stated that the priest was still missing.

The Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) community has been thrown into a state of confusion as some unknown gunmen have kidnapped one of the lecturers, Dr Comfort Adokwe.

DAILY POST gathered that Adokwe, a lecturer in the Faculty of Administration at the university and a Deputy Director, Gender Studies, of the school, was abducted on Sunday night by the gunmen from her residence in Angwan Jaba in Keffi.

The Chairman of the Community Development Association, Comrade Ali Sule, who confirmed the development to DAILY POST, said the gunmen invaded the lecturer’s compound late at night and whisked her to unknown destination.

He said the kidnappers shot sporadically into the air severally before making away with the lecturer.

He told our reporter, “It’s true, our beloved sister, Dr Comfort Adokwe, was kidnapped last night by unknown gunmen at her Residence at Angwan Jaba here in Keffi.

“We pray that God keeps her safe, secure, and protected and returns her safely to us.

“We are calling on security agencies to move into action and bring her back safely.”

However, when contacted by DAILY POST, DSP. Ramhan Nansel, Police Public Relation Officer, PPRO, in the state said he is not aware of the incident as he has not being briefed.

“I have not been briefed,” Nansel said.

The incident came barely one week after about four students of the university were kidnapped from their hostel near Angwan Kare.

Tragedy struck on Monday morning in Ilorin, Kwara State capital, when a big tree fell and killed a woman, injuring 10 others.

The deceased and the injured persons were waiting by the roadside beside Baystar petrol station in the Zango-Kulende area, opposite Oke-Andi junction, Ilorin, to board commercial vehicles to their various destination before the tree fell.

The incident which occurred at about 8 a.m., threw the area into confusion as the woman reportedly died on the spot.

DAILY POST reports that the tree cut electricity cables and destroyed shops.

Some shop owners in the area and a vulganizer known as Malam Abdulrasheed, escaped death as they were yet to open for business at the time of the incident.

The injured victims were rushed to a private hospital, Olutayo Clinic, behind the Baystar petrol station.

Some of them were treated and discharged, but those in critical conditions were referred to the Government General Hospital and the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Oke-Oyi.

Saw millers were engaged to clear the fallen tree and the other.
