Crime / Police Arrest 10 Businessmen Suspected Of Killing 14 Children For Rituals by OgaGist: 5:08pm On Feb 04, 2019
The Speaker of the Tanzanian National Assembly, Job Ndugai, on Monday said that Tanzanian police have arrested 10 businessmen in connection with the recent killing of 10 children in the country.

Ndugai said the men were arrested in Njombe and Makambako towns.

The Speaker announced the arrest as four more children were reportedly killed in Njombe region over the weekend, bringing to 14 the number of children killed in the region over superstitious beliefs.

Ndugai appealed to the government to present in the National Assembly a detailed report on what was going on in Njombe region and on measures taken to contain the situation.

“Security organs must team up to end the brutal killings of innocent children. The government should table its report in the House by the end of this week,” the speaker said.

Ndugai added that such grisly incidences had tarnished the country’s image.

Joram Hongoli, a Member of Parliament for Lupembe Constituency, said the situation in Njombe region had been tense and that businesses were at a standstill over fears.

Parents have stopped working to escort their children to and from school, he said.

The legislator warned that failure to address the problem would result in the killing of many more people as residents have started attacking people they suspected to be involved in killing the children.

“Two people have been allegedly killed by angry mobs in Ludewa and Waning’ombe areas,” said Hongoli, adding that several others have been attacked and injured after they were suspected to be the killers of the children.

Jenista Mhagama, the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for policy, parliamentary affairs, labour, employment, youths and the disabled, said the government needed more time “to come up with a detailed report of what have been done so far.”

Last week, Minister for Home Affairs, Kangi Lugola, associated the killings of children in Njombe with superstitious beliefs.

He said security organs had identified some of the people involved in the killings and that they would soon be arraigned.

Similarly, Tanzanian lawmakers on Monday appealed to the government to allow the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) to retain 40 per cent of its annual collections for improvement of other strategic harbours in the country.

Members of the Parliamentary Committee for Infrastructure said the government should allow the TPA to retain 40 per cent of its 117 million dollars annual collection to improve efficiency of Dar es Salaam, Mtwara, Kigoma and Kalema ports.

“Almost all TPA collections are remitted to government coffers, leaving the ports authorities without funds for its ports improvement, said Moshi Kakoso, Chairman of the Committee.

He was presenting in the National Assembly the committees’ activity report for January 2018 to January 2019.

Kakoso said Dar es Salaam port had a number of challenges that affected its performance including inadequate capacity to handle big vessels.

Dar es Salaam and Tanga ports required deep berths to enable big ships to dock,” Kakoso told the House in the capital, Dodoma.

“Most of the infrastructures at our ports are dilapidated.

“We can hardly compete with Mozambique’s Beira port, Durban port of South Africa and Mombasa port in Kenya,” he said, adding that there was also need to improve roads to the ports.

Education / Meet Woman Who Enrolled In Junior High School At Age 41(Photos) by OgaGist: 5:03pm On Feb 02, 2019
A Ghanaian woman who enrolled in Junior High School at age 41 is on the verge of achieving her dream of becoming a health officer.
Felicitas Naa’s story is one that not only inspires, but also affirms the saying that belief and determination are constants in success.

Having been born in Tamale, Felicitas went on to have her basic and middle school education in the Northern Region.
However, her life took a different turn, one which would try to define what she would become in future.
At 18, she fell in love after a man pledged to help her continue her education when they get married. Excited by the proposal, Felicitas jumped on it and subsequently got married at the age of 18.
However, things did not go according to plan. Her husband could not help her continue with her education. On the other hand, he himself furthered his education.
As time went on, the husband began to complain about Felicitas’ low education level. “He would always complain about my low level of education,” she told the Graphic Online.

With life becoming more and more difficult, she took to bread selling and sewing to make some money. Her marriage finally collapsed, leaving her in a state of absolute depression with no stable source of income and three children.
But rather than give up, Felicitas decided to give it a second shot by returning to school to educate herself.
“I had to pick myself up and start all over again. I was 40 years then. It was time for me to decide whether it was too late or whether I would start afresh. I choose the latter,” she narrates.
In 2006, she decided to go back to school. Intriguingly, she was 41-year-old when she decided to further her junior secondary school education.
But there was a hitch. After 22 years, the educational system had changed. All senior high schools Felicitas tried to gain admission into would not admit her.

She, therefore, had to undertake the Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) as a prerequisite to enter senior high school.
“I was determined to go back to school and so this was not a difficult decision for me to make.” She finally enrolled in the Pedu MA Basic School after numerous failed tries.
“I had to barber my her, sew my uniforms and get ready for school,” she reminisced.
“By this time my first daughter had completed senior high school,” she added.
She completed junior high school in 2009 and then gained admission to the Oguaa Senior Technical School to offer a course in General Arts.
Felicitas is currently a trainee at the Tamale School of Hygiene, where she will graduate this year (2019) as a health officer.
“It’s a good decision I took. I am glad I took that decision to go back to school. It changed my life completely.
“I have friends I couldn’t have had. I can understand my children better and I even look younger now,” she says of her inspirational journey.

A popular Instagram slay queen Simply Tacha was spotted on queue at one of the centers of the Big Brother Naija audition going on across the country.

The video of the slay queen was shared by a lady who rather thought she would have been better off with her Slay Queening instead of seeking out for bigger fame on the popular reality TV show.

The lady could be heard in the video berating Simply Tacha and even called her unprintable names while she was walking in on the line to be auditioned.

Simply Tacha who also doubles as a brand influencer on Instagram, however did not give attention to the troll and rather focused on her destination.

Here are the first photos from Emiliano Sala’s plane wreckage. The plane disappeared with Sala and pilot David Ibbotson on board.

An underwater search for the footballer’s plane will be taking place after cushions were found on a beach. The cushions were discovered near Surtainville on France’s Cotentin Peninsula, on Monday, by French authorities.

Unverified photographs of the cushions, taken on Wednesday, were captured by a woman taking a walk on the beach near Surtainville.

Investigators believe the two seat cushions pictured came from the aircraft.

Last night, Nantes game against Saint Etienne was stopped at the 9th minute as a tribute was paid to missing Argentine striker, Emiliano Sala.

Celebrities / Nollywood Is A Worst Place To Have Female Friends – Nazo Ekenzie by OgaGist: 8:11pm On Jan 30, 2019
Actress Nazo Ekenzie has revealed that Nollywood movie industry is one of the worst places to have female friends.

According to the dark-skinned actress, the love exhibited in the industry is nothung but fake.

“Women don’t like each other. Please, quote me, Nollywood is one of the worst places to have female friends.Because most female actresses see genuine compliments as something else. The worst are those who are doing better and well paid, endorsements and all, with the fame, yet they still say rubbish about other actress in the industry”, she said.

Nazo Ekenzie went on to state that the big actresses do everything possible to prevent others from making it like them.

“Every battle I have faced in Nollywood is surrounded around women. It’s that bad. They believe once they have made it, nobody else should. These big actresses (the A-List). They are scary. Seriously. You would be in your corner, thinking they are all made and won’t stress it again. But they are the ones that are more jealous. Even on set”.

Nazo Ekenzie also spoke on her spoke on the qualities her ideal man should have.

”I have always looked out for someone who fame doesn’t entice or affect. One wouldn’t consider it a problem. I want someone who would be patient enough to know me and not look at me from the movie angle. I would love someone who sees me as Nazo and not an actress all the time.Well, I’m not a physical look kind of person but then you won’t be looking like masquerade though”.
