A Kano singer identified as Sani Aliyu Wawo a.k.a Malam buda mana littafi, was reportedly stabbed by his neighbour multiple times for reportedly ‘singing about his father’.

The Kano singer was stabbed six times by his neighbour Yusuf Sadiq on Thursday night, while parking his car at his residence in Masaka area of Kofar Mazugal in Kano metropolis. This came over a mistaken assumption that the entertainer was referring to Sadiq’s father, in one of his popular songs.

“I was sitting in the car when a neighbour called Yusuf knocked on window. I thought he came to congratulate me for buying a new car. Instead he asked ‘do you recognize me? I’m Yusuf and I come to warn you for abusing my father’,” said the Kano Singer.

“He moved closer, brought a knife from his gown and stabbed me in the neck,” added Sanin Wawo.

“When he attempted to stab me a second time, I tried to stop him with my hand that’s why you see this wound on my hand,” he said.

“It was only after he stabbed me six times that I succeeded in breaking the knife. He therefore ran away and left me bleeding,” He asserted.

While the suspect was arrested by the police but was released on bail pending arraignment in court on Monday, January 7,2019, the stab victim was taken to hospital.

Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo, on Thursday, won the Best Player and Best Goal of 2018 at the Globe Soccer Awards held in Dubai.

Ronaldo won the best goal of the year award for his overhead kick against his current club, while he was at Real Madrid, reports Marca.

It was also reported that Atletico Madrid had an evening to remember, as it was voted the Best Club of the Year.

One of the other top awards was for the Coach of the Year, and this went to Didier Deschamps.

In other categories, Fabio Paratici was voted the Director of the Year, Jorge Mendes was chosen as the Agent of the Year and Blaise Matuidi was recognised for having the Best Career Progress of the Year.

The Benue Police Command has arrested one Godwin Raphael, 21, with 26 brands of mobile phones, a locally made pistol and other items in Otukpo Local Government Area.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Moses Yamu, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday in Makurdi that Raphael was arrested on Christmas Day following an intelligence tip-off.

Yamu said that the Police arrested Raphael with 26 mobile phones, a locally made pistol, three live cartridges and one plasma television; adding that he was in company with other suspects now at large.

He disclosed that the Command also arrested 11 suspected cultists at the point of initiations in Wadata, Makurdi on December 26, during a routine raid.

The spokesman said the Command had, on the night of December 26, arrested four suspected armed robbers in a Toyota Corolla car with a locally made pistol and one live cartridge in Ado Local Government.

He named the suspects as Monday Igbo, Moses Abbah, Friday Oguche and Godwin Ochigbo.

Yamu further disclosed that four members of the Red Skin Confraternity cult were arrested in Otukpo on December 27 with a local pistol, two cartridges, a big bottle of dry gin, and 60 wraps of substance suspected to be Indian hemp.

The PPRO further disclosed that one person was arrested in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area for causing grievous hurt.

He explained that the suspect had, on December 25, shot somebody at a bar in Katsina-Ala after an argument.

A 40-year old man, one Mukaila Aliu, has landed in trouble in Lagos after he was caught having sex with a 16-year old girl by the road side at night.

The incident happened at Mafoluku Road in Oshodi area of Lagos where they reside.

What would have led Aliu to engage the victim in sex by the road side could not be ascertained but the police alleged that on 10th December, 2018, at about 8pm, Aliu allegedly lured the victim by the dark side of the road and penetrated her from the back.
However, while he was still in the act, the neighbours caught them, forced him to disengage from her and he was handed over to the police in the area.
The matter was transferred to the Gender Section of the State Command where he was interrogated and Aliu reportedly confessed.

He was later charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for defilement because of the age of the victim.
The prosecutor, Inspector Benson Emerhi, told the court that it was a case of defilement and would need to seek the advice of DPP.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Sule-Amzat, did not take his plea and ordered the man to be remanded in prison custody without the option of bail.

The court also directed the prosecutor to send the file to DPP for advice while the defendant will remain in prison pending the outcome of DPP’s report.
The matter was adjourned till 21st January, 2018, for the report of DPP to be available. It was gathered that the matter may be transferred to the High court if the DPP finds the defendant culpable and recommends his trial.

The Minister of Youths and Sports, Solomon Dalung, caused a stir when he appeared clad in his native attire at the 2018 Tarok Cultural Carnival, which held in the Langtang South Local Government Area of Plateau State on Saturday.

Guests and participants were surprised by the lawyer, who wore a skirt made of animal skin, while his upper body was bare. He also sported a pair of blue canvas shoes with a blue cap to match.

The minister also took part in the dances and parades, which were the high points of the event.

In his remarks at the event, Dalung advised the Tarok people to love one another, noting that the ethnic group had made sacrifices for the unity of Nigeria and deserved to hold the highest positions in the country.

He stated that his people fought in the First and Second World Wars in defence of Nigeria, “but nobody has remembered them except President Muhammadu Buhari.”

The minister further said, “The Tarok people have been deprived of opportunities to be secretary to the state government, chief of staff, ambassadors, representative in the United Nations except for Gen. Joseph Garba, who served as the 44th President of the UN.

“Our people, particularly in Langtang South, were denied opportunities to be elected as members of the House of Representatives, senators and governor; yet, we are the highest producers of agricultural products in Plateau State.”

The Chairman on the occasion, Mr Nanven Nimfyel, also called on the people to join hands together for the progress of the Tarok nation.

In his closing remarks, the Tarok traditional ruler, Chief Lot Nden, called on the people to love each other.

At the Artiste Village, National Theatre in Iganmu, Lagos, Agnes Molokwo is a known face. Popularly called Mama, the 64-year-old actress sleeps and works there. But recently, the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Lagos Chapter, led by Don Pedro Obaseki, gave her shelter.

In a chat with Sunday Scoop, Molokwo expressed joy that she had not been abandoned and forgotten. She said, “I am so happy that after five years of sleeping in the cold at the National Theatre, I spent this year’s Christmas in my own house. For years now, I have been squatting. It has not been easy for me, but I thank God for today. During the preparation for our artiste week, I called the chairman (Don Pedro) to tell him that I preferred money to an award. I told him about my plight and he promised they would do something about it. When he saw where I was squatting, he was shocked.”

While appreciating an agent, who had accommodated her for years, Molokowo recalled how she would wake up early in the morning to have her bath before everyone resumed for the day’s work. She added, “I am grateful to God and I thank AGN for showing me care. They did not take me as an artiste but their mother. When there was no place for me to stay, my agent asked me to be sleeping in his office.”

A joyful wedding ceremony ended in death and tears at Chachacha Growth Point in Shurugwi on Saturday when a 14-year-old groomsman died in a freaky car accident during the procession.

Midlands Police Spokesperson Ethel Mkwende said they have not received the report.

According to Masvingo paper The Mirror Response Mapfuti was riding in one of the cars in the wedding procession when the driver lost control, veered slightly off the road and side-swiped a tree.

Mutemeri who had his head hanging out through the window as he celebrated the event crashed against the tree and died. He died on the spot, according to authoritative sources.

This tragedy left a wide rift between some family members at the wedding with others arguing that the wedding should be halted while others advocated for the event to go on.

In the end, wedding was allowed to continue.

Marvelous Madzivanyika an eyewitness gave a brief account of the events

“The boy’s death so early into the wedding shocked everyone but of more surprise was the continuation of the event even when there was already a death in the wedding party,” said Madzivanyika.

Singer, Jaywon, practically lost his cool online when a follower alleged that he no longer stole songs but their titles. The follower went on to give alleged examples of Jaywon’s songs such as Joromi, Saro and Aje, which share titles with tracks by other artistes.

However, in a chat with Sunday Scoop, Jaywon gave an explanation. He said, “The matter is actually very simple. The same title does not mean the same content and we all know that. It’s like someone telling me that I should sue Small Doctor because he released a song named, This Year, when I had put out a record with the same title years earlier. Wizkid and Davido both have songs named, Gbon Gbon, but years before either of them, I had released a hit song with the same title.

“My song, Aje, is about trade because that’s what the title means in Yoruba language. If you have listened to the Davido Music Worldwide song, you can clearly tell that apart from the title, they don’t have anything in common.

“A lot of the time, some people just want to talk and get your attention by force. I hope he (the follower that made the comment) is enjoying the fame. What he said was very wrong. As far as I am concerned, I have never copied anyone; rather people copy me and they’ve been doing that for a long time. Because I don’t talk doesn’t mean I don’t know what I’m doing.”

Jaywon also maintained that he would have released his song, Joromi, earlier than Simi put out a track of the same title. “I was actually supposed to release my song, Joromi, before hers. However, I attended her album listening party (before the album was released) and she sang the song. I then figured that since she was going to release the single accompanied by an album, the buzz would likely overshadow mine; so, I decided to wait for some time before putting out my song. I did not copy anyone. It is only the song titles that are similar, not the content.

Broadcaster and leader of the Free Nation Online Church, Ifedayo Olarinde, aka Daddy Freeze, was recently called out on social media after his church members bought him a phone, an act he preaches against when done by other pastors.

Explaining why he collected the phone, Olarinde told Sunday Scoop, “I’ve never been against collecting gifts and I tell my congregation that, especially if the gifts aren’t as ridiculous as private jets. We don’t take tithes or offerings; we don’t sow seeds and any of the monetary compensations the regular churches have, such as pastor’s appreciation fund and the likes.

There is nowhere in the Bible that gifts were turned down; so, we can’t turn gifts down. What’s important is that a preacher must tell his congregation that the blessing of giving is in giving to the poor, not to the church or the preacher. I tell my congregation that whatever gifts they give me are gifts of love. I have needs too. That doesn’t make me a hypocrite.”

Recounting why he started the church, Freeze said, “When I started preaching, people started following what I preached and started believing in it just because I could back up what I was saying. By this time, people had stopped going to church. If you listen to four of my teachings, you’ll stop going to church. So, one of my egbons (big brother) asked me what I had planned for the people who had pulled out of church and had started following me since somehow, they had to have their spiritual lives catered for. Since they had left the church to come with me, I had to cater to their spiritual needs.

That’s when it was ministered to me that I had to open a centre, and because of the issues the church and I had, not wanting to seem defiant or combatant, it was again ministered to me to start an online church. All you need to be a part of our church is data on your phone.”
