This staggered payment is unacceptable. Almost all the banks this month decided to pay few persons and keep the rest pending.
Hope it will not result to us going to the board to apply for what we don't know about.

GOVERNOR WIKE REDEEMS 280 MILLION PLEDGE TO WIDOWS OF SLAIN OFFICERS
Rivers State Governor, Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has redeemed his pledge of N280 million (two hundred and eighty million) to families of the 14 security personnel murdered by gunmen during a recent attack on security formations in parts of Rivers State.
Governor Wike had during a condolence visit to the State Commissioner of Police - Friday Eboka and officers of the State Police Command last week Monday, announced the donation of N20 million (twenty million) to each family of officers killed by gunmen.
The cheques were presented to 11 widows of Police officers at the State Police Command, two bereaved family members of the Nigerian Airforce at the Nigerian Airforce Base and one widow of Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corp (NCDC) official in Port Harcourt, respectively on Monday.
The Governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Wenike Danagogo said the gesture is in fulfillment of the Governor's earlier promise to alleviate the plight of the widows and their children.
According to him, “His Excellency, Governor Nyesom Wike CON deeply sympathize with you. We know there is nothing else he can do to bring your husbands, fathers and brothers back to you but he has asked me to tell you that in situations like this, we look unto God and pray that God will continue to support you and show his grace to you.
“He wants you to know that your husbands and fathers did not die in vain but died for their fatherland and God will certainly take care of all that concerns them. Men may not be able to do much to assuage your feelings but be rest assured that God Almighty will take care of you.
“The Governor has asked us to bring this token of N20 million each to the widows and children of the deceased security personnel.
“Our role as a Government is to always identify with people who make sacrifices for the good of humanity, the good of Nigeria and the State. No doubt your husbands are some of those who made such sacrifices along with several officers who are doing same", he said.
The Governor further assured the State security personnel of his continuous commitment and support as they discharge their duties.
“I encourage all the officers who are toiling day and night to ensure the security of the State that Rivers State Government will always stand with you and identify with you no matter the situation. The Governor appreciates your sacrifices and will always support you to eradicate this recent trend of criminality and terrorism ravaging different parts of the country," he said.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Friday Eboka thanked the Governor and assured the continuous service of his men to the security of the State.
“We are happy that the Governor has extended his hand of friendship to us. We have been sad all these while, but today, the Governor in his magnanimity has come to wipe out our tears. We appreciate the Governor and pray that God will continue to help him the way he is helping us. We know that money cannot bring back life but invest the money properly so your children will not drop out of school and use it wisely," he added.
In the same vain, the Commander 115 Special Operations Group, Nigeria Airforce, Port Harcourt, Group Captain G. E. Laha, thanked the Governor for the kind gesture and promised to continue in the good service of security of the State.
On behalf of the recipients, the widow of Inspector Paulinus Bassey, Mrs Grace Bassey expressed gratitude to the Governor for the kind gesture of empowering the widows and family members of the deceased.

New Rivers at One: We have stabilised the state economy~Governor Wike

▪ explains why he started with the renewal of Port Harcourt,Obio/Akpor Local Government Areas
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that his administration has stabilised the economy of state through the strategic release of funds via payment of salaries and payment for key projects.
Governor Wike explained that he started with the renewal of infrastructure in Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor Local Government Areas because both towns support majority of the population of the state.
The governor also assured the people of the state that every local government area of the state will execute key projects in all the 23 Local Government Areas, saying no local government area 1 will be denied the impact of good governance.
The governor spoke on Monday in Port Harcourt during a town hall meeting tagged : "Accounting for Governor Nyesom Wike’s Administration: One Year After".
He said: "We have stabilised the economy of Rivers State since we took of the reins of leadership in the state. We achieved the stabilisation of the economy by injecting N151b as salaries and payment of contractors.
"These funds have helped us to rebuild our economy which was badly damaged by the immediate past administration ".
The governor said that no project will be abandoned by his administration. According to him, his administration will only award projects that will be completed within the life-span of his administration.
He said the renewal of Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor Local Government Areas have enhanced the economy of the state as more investors are confident to invest in the state.
He noted that 46 roads have been reconstructed under the Operation Zero Potholes, 15 roads abandoned by the immediate past administration completed and 27 new roads initiated by his administration have been completed and commissioned.
He announced that the State Government is building an ICT compliant security infrastructure to help fight crime and empower the security agencies to be more proactive.
Governor Wike informed that measures have been put in place to tackle cultism across the state.
He said: "When I met with the President, I told him that we will tackle cultism and insecurity in four local government areas. They are Abua/Odual, Ahoada East, Ahoada West and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Areas. "
He warned against the politicisation of crime, blaming a particular political party for claiming suspected cultists who murder others as their members.
He said that the administration has started the phased rehabilitation of schools in three senatorial districts, completed the Faculty of Law, paid for science consumables and restored NECO in the state.
He said his administration will continue to subsidise education, but added that the people should be prepared to pay maintenance fees to assist the state government run the educational institutions.
He said: "I did not promise free education, because I know that it does not work. I only assured that we will provide quality education for the people. There is no free education anywhere in the country. All those claiming free education are playing politics".
The governor said that the needs assessment of all the General Hospitals in the state have been completed, pointing out that phased rehabilitation of the hospitals in earnest.
Going forward, the governor said that employment opportunities will be created via agriculture and industrialization. He also said he will work towards creating jobs for physically challenged persons who are educated.
He said: "Employment generation will be our focus in the next one year. We shall support entrepreneurship to create more jobs for the people".
In his remarks, the Chairman of the occasion, Former Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Iche Ndu praised the governor for being transparent and accountable to the people. He said Governor Wike has has performed creditably in transforming the state.

Culture / Re: Ikwerre Names & Their Meanings by ogbugo: 8:27pm On Oct 29, 2015
A BRIEF HISTORY OF IKWERRE
Chambers Dictionary (William Geddie, ed. 1962) says: “A nation is a body of people marked off by common descent, language, culture, or historical tradition: the people of a tribe.” However, S.O.L. Amadi-Nna (1993) avers that: “A tribe is a group of clans under recognized chiefs and usually claiming common ancestry. Ikwerre can therefore not be a clan but a tribe. The Ikwerres claim a common ancestor. Ikwerre is an independent small tribe.” In the words of K.O. Amadi (1993) ,“Traditions suggest that Ikwerre is a nickname given to Iwhnuruọhna people…..They have ever since regarded themselves as a distinct group and have happily come a long way in their struggle for self-identity as evidenced by the recognition of their language as one of the Nigerian languages.” Amadi-Nna (1993) added that: “The Ikwerres are a small but distinct tribe. The Ikwerres have distinct linguistic, social and cultural traits and formations that distinguish them from other close neighbouring tribes like the Ijaws and the Ibos. Majority of the Ikwerre settlements have their roots traceable from the old Benin Empire.” Iwhnurọhna people descended from the ancient Bini Kingdom. The name of the grand ancestor is Akalaka. Their relations in Rivers State are Ekpeye and Ogba people. The reigning Oba of Benin when Akalaka, the ancestor of Ihruọha (later called Iwhnurọhna) fled was Oba Ewuare (Ogwaro). Akalaka, a member of the Benin royal family, fled in the 13 th century on allegation of plotting assassination of the Oba. He died in 1462. Iwhnurọhna his third son settled east of the Sombrero River by 1538 AD, as detailed below. Chief N.M.T. Solomon (2004), native of Ikodu Ubie in Ekpeyeland, in his narrative draws heavily from the now authenticated written historical records delivered by various informed sources including “Eketu (Weber) of Ubeta, assumed to have lived for over two hundred (200) years as the oldest man in all Ekpeye, Ogba an Iwhnurọhna (or Ikwerre), at that time (and) was asked to narrate the history and customs of Ekpeye people” as unfolded in his lifetime. Here is what he said, which has been validated by the accounts of the current generation through responses to our questionnaires and direct interviews thereby increasing our level of confidence on the data:Ekpeye, born in Benin, was the first of the three sons of Akalaka. While in Ndoni, he married a second wife to gain the love and favour of the people. The new wife gave birth to a son, which he named Ogba. Akalaka was still in Ndoni when his first wife, the mother of Ekpeye, gave birth to his third son called Ihruoha (Ikwerre). Similar historical fact by J.N. Olise (1971) averred that: “Akalaka, a member of the Benin royal family, fled with his wife from Benin to Ndoni, a community located close to the River Niger, to save the life of his new born baby (Ekpeye) … While at Ndoni, Akalaka took a second wife. … Akalaka had two sons, Ekpeye – born to him by his Benin wife, and Ogba – born to him by his Ndoni wife. According to F.E. Otuwarikpo (1994): " After the death of Akalaka in 1462 AD, his two sons, Ekpeye and Ogba had conflict, which compelled Ogba, the younger son, to move northwards where he founded Ohiakwo (Obigwe) and settled with his family. Ekpeye who remained at Ula-Ubie had seven sons – Ubie, Akoh, Upata, Igbuduya, Ekpe, Awala and Asa. The last three sons – Ekpe, Awala and Asa – crossed to the other side of Sombreiro River (present day Ikwerreland and settled there since 1538 AD.” He added that: “Ekpe migrated to present day Rumuekpe and spread through Elele(Alimini), Ndele, Rumuji and part of Ibaa. Awala migrated to present day Isiokpo …” Amadi-Nna (1993) also said Akalaka migrated with his half brother called Ochichi from the area of Benin Empire. Ochichi sons were Ele (Omerele, now Elele), Elu (Elumuoha, now Omerelu) Egbe (Egbeda) and Mini (Alimini, Isiokpo). The crucial point here, which is of great importance in tracing the joint origin of the ancestors of the Old Ahoada Division (in the Governor Diete-Spiff administration), is the mention of the number of children that Akalaka had, namely: Ekpeye, Ogba and Ihru ọha (Ikwerre) .It is noteworthy that the pedigree and name of Ikwerre people, Iwhnurọhna, obviously took its root from this original name – Ihruọha. Chief Solomon therefore establishes a very vital historical link, which has been missing in literature on Ikwerre origin that would assume more significance in the discourses of Ikwerre genealogy in the future – the fact that Akalaka was the direct father of Ihruọha (Ikwerre). Iwhnurọhna, in Ikwere parlance, means the face of the community (town, city or village). Nigerian colonial history records that the name "Ikwerre" was given by the colonial administration when they wanted to acquire the Rebisi waterfront to build the wharf. Using an Ibo interpreter to talk to the illiterate Rebisi (Port Harcourt) chiefs, they asked them: Would you permit us to use the waterfront to build the wharf for ships to berth? And they answered: AKWERULEM, meaning - "We have agreed." What the white-man was hearing was "Ikwerre," so he recorded it in the official gazette that the IKWERRE PEOPLE have agreed for the colonial administration to build the wharf. And since it was the official record of government, the name Ikwerre became the name of the Iwhnurohna people in all official documentations till date.Similar cases of Anglicization of native names in the Niger Delta region by the colonial administration are Benin for Bini, Okrika for Wakrike, Degema for Udekema, Abonnema for Obonoma, Brass for Gbara sni, Bonny for Ibani,Pepple for Perekule, Ahoada for Ehuda, etc Even so, “… there were dissenting voices, … who believed that Ikwerre origins lay outside Igboland, … in the Benin Kingdom of old. It is, therefore, obvious that the interminable debateabout Ikwerre origins and migrations including the repudiation of the Igbo tradition is not a phenomenon of the post-civil war period. The controversy, as it were, is not necessarily the product of the present political realities wherein groups which hitherto were seen to have cultural affinities now find themselves in different states or administrative systems.” -- K.O. Amadi (1993) The Ogbakor Ikwerre Convention, a cultural organization of Ikwerre people, in a paper presented to the Human Rights Violation Commission headed by Rtd. Justice Chukwudifu Oputa on 10 October 2001, said: “Ikwerre ethnic nationality is not and has never been a sub-group of any other tribe in Nigeria including Ndi-Igbo. There is no doubt that the advent of the British and later regionalization put Ndi-Igbo at the helm of affairs in Eastern Nigeria. This brought Ndi-Igbo into Ikwerre land. In course of time, the Igbo took advantage of their position in the then Eastern Regional Government to grab land in Ikwerre and occupy political positions such as the mayor of Port Harcourt. In the process, Ikwerre along with other minority groups were marginalized and driven to the background.” Professor Godwin Tasie noted that in 1913 the Rt Rev Herbert Tugwell, the Anglican Bishop on the Niger, undertook an experimentation tour of Ikwerre towns and villages assumed to be Ibo- speaking to test the Union Ibo Bible Nso being introduced in Iboland. "Tugwell discovered from the tests he carried out that although the Ikwerre were often regarded as Ibo… the Union Ibo Bible translation, surprisingly, was not easily understood by the Ikwere." This is obviously why Igbo vernacular was compulsorily introduced and taught in all schools in Ikwerreland before the Nigerian Civil War to the assimilation (i.e. destruction) of the Ikwere language. This also obviously led to the Rumuomasi Declaration in 1965 . " … in their meeting at Rumuomasi in 1965 the Ikwerre had, under the umbrella of a highly promising new body that was to get the Ikwerre together as a people of new and clearer vision, they had declared themselves as a people of the distinct identity of Ikwerre Ethnic Nationality - not Ibo, not Ijo, not anything else but Ikwerre, Iwhnurọhna. This was the historic Rumuomasi Declaration of 1965 (G.O.M. Tasie, 2000). The full implication is that Ikwere people began to assert themselves forcefully as an ethnic nationality of their own and not Ibos or Ijos, and efforts were made to revert to the original Ikwere names for families, villages, communities and landmarks. For instance, there was the change from Umuola to Rumuola, Umuoro to Rumuoro, Umukrushi to Rumuokwurusi , just to name a few. Wike swears in 22 LGs Caretaker Committee chairmen on july 09, 2015 at 9:39 pm in news
PORT HARCOURT – Governor Nyesom Wike last night swore in twenty two caretaker committee Chairmen to replace the elected council executives dissolved by a a Federal High court ruling delivered by Justice Lambo Akanbi, Thursday morning. The governor said he vowed to respect the rule of law when he assumed office on May 29, stressing that it was why he did not dissolve what he termed the illegality put in place by the outgone government. According to him, some state governors had gone ahead to dissolve local government councils when they came on board but he took time to allow due process. Nyesom Wike Continuing, the governor said he did not dissolve the twenty two local government areas, noting that it was the decision of the court. He said the caretaker committees had to be sworn to avoid any vacuum in government. The governor warned the newly sworn in caretaker committee Chairmen to ensure they discharge their responsibilities effectively, stressing that he would not hesitate to sack anyone found wanting. Governor Wike further reminded the caretaker committee chairmen that their appointment was not political patronage. “When we were inaugurated on 29 I said this administration will follow due process. We followed rule of law. Even if we know the last election was illegal we felt the rule of law and due process should take place.

My Fate for the 13,000 teachers- Gov. Wike
My plan for them, like I said, I have not seen any records. Let us assume they have employed them; that employment must have taken place during 2012 or 2013 and so they have been earning salary, assuming. So they are to stay. There is nothing you can do about it. But if it is employment that was done after the election, just to compound problems for the incoming government, it will be unacceptable to us. But if it is employment that was done even before the election, of course the employment will stay, I am not going to tamper with the employment of 13,000 teachers, that is my take on it.

Let no one in the house make any conclusion about the veracity of the said comment and the maker until the sanity of the said woman is confirmed at a reputable institution and by a qualified and competent psycho-medical practitioner. It could possibly have been a month-old recorded malicious statement prepared based on the belief that all schools open yesterday. Just to trigger some troubles.
