Politics / 4th Urhobo Economic And Investment Summit (ekpobaro 2021) by oghenemario: 8:33am On Oct 06, 2021 |
4TH URHOBO ECONOMIC AND INVESTMENT SUMMIT (EKPOBARO 2021) Diversification of the economy has been an agenda of various administrations in Nigeria over time, particularly in the back post - 1970 oil boom era. It’s not new as an economic policy stand. Diversification, away from crude oil, has been the main focus, and the direction has been agriculture, manufacturing, services and mining, among others. It is also a two-fold diversification of government revenue, and diversification of output or contribution to GDP. Urhobo Nation is unarguably blessed with numerous natural and mineral resources. Outside oil, agriculture, which is one of the economic solid bases in Urhoboland, but has been made inconspicuous ever since which led to it being under-utilized to date. We can't continue to fold our hands as if all is well. It's time to systematically Industrialize Urhobo Nation from the grassroots based on the comparative advantages across the 24 kingdoms of Urhobo Nation, Uduophori, Odorubu, Patani LGA and Ofoni Community in Bayelsa State. Plan to support, partner and attend the epoch-making event of the 4th edition of the Urhobo Economic and Investment Summit that will have in attendance stakeholders in Government, traditional rulers, businesses, civil society, international organizations, the diplomatic community, youth bodies, students, market women, CAN and academia to proffer workable solutions in which Urhobo Nation can revamp moribund industries, create new ones, reverse poor economic trends, improve human capital base of the economy, lay a necessary foundation that will leapfrog Urhobo Nation into a future of economic progress, and sustain economic growth. Politics / Igbakpa's Midas Touch On Ethiope Federal Is Unprecedented by oghenemario: 9:56am On Jan 28, 2021 |
IGBAKPA'S MIDAS TOUCH ON ETHIOPE FEDERAL IS UNPRECEDENTED By Comr. Timothy Ogheneovo Emorhakpor. ( Ben Igbakpa Media Team ) It is true that when people stay too long in the dark , a ray of light will be too much for them to behold . This is the case of Ethiope Federal Constituency in Delta State under the watch of Hon ( Chief ) Ben Igbakpa . One very good reason we have as a people from Ethiope East /West Federal constituency to continually appreciate God for giving us Hon Chief Ben Rolland's Igbakpa as member representing us at the green chamber's of the National Assembly is because of his availability to the people . Upon assumption of office and in keeping faith alive , he took a bold step to keep his campaign promise termed " OKIEMUTE " Meaning " THERE IS TIME FOR EVERYTHING " He hit the ground running by opening two (2) liaison offices - one at Eku in Ethiope East and the other at Oghara in Ethiope West local government areas respectively . This is to allow the people reach him whenever they are in need . Going forward, he appointed twenty young men as his legislative aides from Erhiope East and West Loca Government Areas . He also supported the women with the sum of Five Million Naira (#5,000,000.00) to upgrade their businesses . Through Hon Ben Rollands Igbakpa , we were meant to understand that constituents can actually have access to free Skills acquisition as well as support for our individual businesses . This he achieved through the Igbakpa iRep Program he initiated . The litanies of Motions and people oriented Bills he has sponsored spurred him to become one of the most sort for members in the Nigerian House of Representatives . His vibrant and dogged arguments on the floor of the house has severally put the Presidency on their toes . His inquiry into the spurious loans Nigerian Government took has set the President Buhari led Federal Government on the path of carefully re-examination of the clauses and conditions attach to loans before they are taken . The Niger Delta Development Commission ( NDDC) saw a major rejig because Hon Ben Rollands Igbakpa was intrepid enough to question the Pondei led Executives on what part of the Nigerian constitution empowered them to spend a whopping sum of One Billion and Five Hundred Thousand Naira (#1.5 Billion ) to take care of themselves and many others . Hon Igbakpa has given us ( the people of Ethiope Federal ) the opportunity to be heard very loud on the floor of the green Chambers of the National Assembly as well as promoted our Cultural heritage by adorning himself with the complete Urhobo traditional attires . Hon Igbakpa's name has not only been a household name since his campaign days but has kept ringing bells as he made sure he remained the man of the people he was before he was elected as member representing Ethiope East/West Federal Constituency. With the numbers of intervention projects dotted across Ethiope Federal attracted by Hon Ben Igbakpa , it is evidently clear that better days are indeed here for us in Ethiope Federal constituency . To this end , it's pertinent to note that Hon Chief Ben Rollands Igbakpa is truly God sent to change the Narrative in Ethiope Federal Constituency and our prayers and always with him .

Politics / Eacgov Stratcom 2020: Edevbie Wants Communication Policy For Delta State by oghenemario: 2:50pm On Dec 15, 2020 |
Eacgov StratCom 2020: Edevbie Wants Communication Policy For Delta State Government. ...Commends Okowa's EAC Oghenesivbe For His Creativity, Communication Strategies. Chief of Staff, Government House and former Finance Commissioner in Delta State, Olorogun David Edevbie has again emphasised the need to set up a special committee comprising internal and external communication experts to craft a result-oriented communication policy for the state. He took a dim view of the multiplicity of information flow without proper coordination, saying that a standard communication policy would streamline the process of information dissemination and clearly state-assigned responsibilities among government spokespersons, information and media managers in the state. Edevbie made the suggestion while addressing 200 participants and guests at the opening ceremony of the 2nd edition of Delta State Strategic Communication Workshop, at Orchid Hotel Asaba on Tuesday, December 8, 2020. The three-day capacity programme was sponsored by the state government and organised by the Office of the Executive Assistant (Communications) to the Governor of Delta State. According to Edevbie, the communication policy when formulated and adopted will enable media managers and state communication strategists adhere strictly to guidelines, deadlines and implement a well-coordinated information dissemination flow for the attainment of government objectives, and at the same time curtail misinformation and disinformation. He further posited that an acceptable policy should clearly define the responsibilities of those involved in the process, detailing the means of communications and consultation that will be used, adding that it should include; a clear mission statement, a standard organisational structure, number of unit heads and details of the responsibility for communication at each level. "There is the need to have a communication and Consultation policy for the state, to drive the process of information dissemination which must be balanced. It is not encouraging to have blurred, multifaceted and uncoordinated government communication routes which could lead to different interpretations to be given to the same piece of information or statement. "A standard communication policy will solve these problems and position our media managers and state communication strategists to take proactive and result-oriented steps in the discharge of assigned responsibilities, to achieve government and the governor's overall objectives in governance. "I, therefore, charge the resource persons and participants at this workshop which is keenly supervised by three erudite Professors of Mass Communication and Journalism, led by Emeritus Professor Raph Akinfeleye, to at the end of this critical brainstorming exercise suggest ways on how government can work towards crafting and adopting result-oriented communication and consultation policy for the state. "I wish to sincerely commend the positive sagacity and resourcefulness of the Executive Assistant (Communications) to the Governor, Dr Barr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, for organising this workshop which has become an annual event for the media industry in the state. "The first edition was held last year, but this one is larger in scope and organisation, and I have no doubt in my mind that the outcome and impact shall be felt positively, as participants acquire professional skills to enhance output either as media aides to the governor, media managers, social media influencers and bloggers. "This administration stands out in Nigeria in terms of job and wealth creation, human capacity development and spread of dividends of democracy. Many thanks to His Excellency the Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, for his good governance strides and for being a promise keeper," Edevbie said.

Politics / MCIU Launches Entrepreneurship, Innovation Centre by oghenemario: 10:56am On Sep 08, 2020 |
MCIU Launches Entrepreneurship, Innovation Centre The Ibru village and the entire Agbarha-Otor Kingdom in Ughelli North LGA of Delta State was recently a beehive of academic activities as the Michael and Cecilia Ibru University (MCIU) launched its Entrepreneurship and Innovation Centre on September 6th, 2020, as part of activities to mark the 4th memorial lecture of the late business icon and great African entrepreneur, Olorogun Michael Ibru who passed on four years ago. At the memorial lecture in his honour titled, "Innovation In Entrepreneurship: Changes The Rules of The Game", held via zoom, pioneer Director of the Enterprise Development Centre (EDC) Pan-Atlantic University, Lagos, and keynote speaker at the event, Mr. Peter Bamkole advocated product/service innovation, process innovation and business model innovation as the three forms of innovation required to boost and grow businesses and to also promote entrepreneurial skills amongst small business owners and young undergraduates in Nigeria. "Wherever problems exist, entrepreneurs will scramble to provide multiple solutions leading to the creation of products, services and ultimately, ventures. Irrespective of the resources within their control, entrepreneurs will pursue such opportunity with a single-minded passion to deliver value to their target market. As long as the customer’s pain point is being relieved, the customer will continue to pay for such value until a superior value is being proposed either by the entrepreneur or a competitor." The erudite speaker said. Panelists like Prof Ibiyinka Fuwape, Dr. Muda Yusuf, Olayemi Anyanechi, Prof. Anthony Kila, Bismarck Rewane and Mr. Obaro Osah were of the view that the Nigerian educational policies should be woven around entrepreneurial skills to create jobs for our teeming young undergraduates at the end of their educational careers. They also described the late Otota of Agbarha-Otor kingdom, Olorogun M.C.O. Ibru as a role model and mentor in business and entrepreneurial development in Nigeria. The Michael and Cecilia Ibru Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship was established to cultivate the minds of trainees on the part of self-reliance and financial independence. The courses offered at the centre are strategically designed to solve strategic social and economic problems ravaging our nation, especially that of unemployment. Earlier, in his opening address, the chairman of the event, Olorogun Moses Taiga who is also the president-general of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) worldwide thanked the co-founder of the Michael and Cecilia Ibru University, Dr. Mrs. Cecilia Ibru for sustaining the vision and passion of promoting the legacies her beloved husband left behind by putting together such academic programmes as the annual memorial lecture. Also, in his citation during the event, Mr. Goodie Ibru, a brother to the deceased extolled the fine virtues and qualities of the late Olorogun Ibru, which, according to the experienced hotelier, endeared his late brother to the business world. He also appreciated the untiring efforts of Dr. Mrs. Cecilia Ibru for running with the vision of her late husband, even at this time of the global economic crisis and the ravaging Covid-19 pandemic. The event was graced by dignitaries from across the globe, among whom were; Olorogun Sen. Ovie Omo Agege, Deputy President of the Senate, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Air Chief Marshal Sadiq Abubakar, Chief of Air Staff of the Nigerian Airforce, Mr Paul Jite Okoloko, CEO, Notore Chemical Industries Plc, Prof G. G Darah, among others too numerous to mention. The event was moderated by an erudite speaker and international management expert, Dr. Benson Uwheru, a partner with EY's Banking and Capital Markets Sector and leader for West Africa. The event was attended by thousands of entrepreneurs and young people within and outside Nigeria via Zoom.

Politics / Re-amendnent Of Gazette/kingship Tussle In Ibrede Clan by oghenemario: 3:01pm On Aug 09, 2020 |
Re-AMENDNENT OF GAZETTE/KINGSHIP TUSSLE IN IBREDE CLAN Your Excellency, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa Executive Governor of Delta State Sir, It has become pertinent and imperative to write you on the above subject matter considering the inherent dangers, and massive community crises our silence may cause the IBREDE Clan, particularly the ward B. Sir, the Ibrede clan comprises of 8 Communities namely Ibrede, Okah, Awah, Ayama, Egwo Okorafor, Lagos Iyede, Iyede Ame, and Ogige. These communities are divided into two wards of A and B. Ward A is made up of two communities of Ibrede and Okah, while ward B comprises of Awah, Ayama, Egwo Okorafor, Lagos Iyede, Iyede Ame, and Ogige communities all in Ndokwa East L.G.A of Delta State. The kingship is rotated between these two wards. Sir, it is unfortunate to note that when it is the turn of ward A to produce the King, any son that is above 40 years from the ruling houses is eligible to vie for the kingship position, but when it is the turn of ward B, it has to be the oldest man from the benefitting communities in the ward irrespective of his age. In our opinion this is repugnant and injustice to the people of ward B and likely to cause a breach of peace and order if this injustice is not urgently addressed. We therefore humbly appeal to your Excellency to kindly use your highly exalted office to look into this matter with a view to restoring equity, fairness and justice. Accept our warmest and esteemed regards, Ewoma Ovoka for Awah Community. Long long live Awah Community! Long live Ndokwa East Local Government Area!! Long live Delta State!!! |
Politics / Oshiomhole And Crisis Of Public Morality by oghenemario: 1:36pm On Aug 07, 2020 |
Oshiomhole And Crisis Of Public Morality By Sunny Awhefeada On Aug 7, 2020 The greatest tragedy to befall Nigeria is the lack of public morality that has become the hallmark of those who aspire to leadership. The ongoing political brouhaha in Edo State with Adams Oshiomhole as the prima donna manifests the apparent absence of public morality in Nigeria’s national life. When critically evaluated, the ongoing show of shame embarked upon by Oshiomhole is worse than the allegations of graft and heist for which the henchmen of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) boss have been flayed for weeks now. At the very core of corruption is the lack of propriety which is an index of the absence of morality. Oshiomhole has become the crass manifestation of the etymology of the word “politician” which inheres in lies, deceit and dishonesty. For Oshiomhole to turn around to adopt the man he called a thief a few years ago as the best person to be governor of Edo State now in 2020 is incomprehensible. There was no derogatory adjective that Oshiomhole did not use to debase Osagie Ize- Iyamu in 2016! Today, the same Oshiomhole reframes the narrative by re-presenting Ize- Iyamu as the messiah Edo people need. To Oshiomhole, this is all politics. But in truth, it is political mountebankery! The combined genius of Shakespeare and Soyinka could not have contrived the kind of absurdist drama going on in Edo State. The fall or shame for the former Comrade, former Governor, former party Chairman is inconceivable. Oshiomhole invaded public consciousness at the dawn of the present millennium as the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC). Not a few hailed his emergence as timeous to combat the festering civilian dictatorship of Kabiyesi Olusegun Obasanjo the prisoner turned president that ruled Nigeria then. Oshiomhole was diminutive, but very obtrusive. He had the gift of the garb and he swayed the masses. The nefarious policies and maladministration that typified the Obasanjo era gave Oshiomhole ample opportunity to become popular as he donned the garb of the People’s General. His name was on the lips of every Nigerian; young and old, male and female, literate and illiterate. Obasanjo was in perpetual pains not knowing what to do to him. Had Oshiomhole attempted to run for the presidency against Obasanjo in 2003, he would have won, but for the rigging machinery at the disposal of the latter. After his memorable tenure as NLC President, he ran for the governorship of Edo State and recorded phenomenal victory. Despite, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) attempt to steal his victory, the courts affirmed him as the duly elected governor of Edo State and the people erupted in joy. Compared to other governors of his time, Oshiomhole ran Edo State well. He not only upgraded the state’s infrastructural profile, he turned around a lot of things including retiring the state’s many political godfathers from active politics. As the Comrade-Governor, he identified with the hoi-polloi and tenaciously worked for their good. He ruled Edo State to laudable acclaim for two terms of eight years. His next port of call was as Chairman of the nation’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC). It was as Chairman of the APC that the disaster Oshiomhole turned out to be manifested. His temperament as a Stone Age despot was put on display. What followed was one disaster after another for the APC. From Zamfara to Rivers, the APC suffered the kind of rupture that shook the party to its foundation. Party stalwarts, the real denizens of cloak and dagger politics, fought back to reclaim their party. Truculent Oshiomhole was forced to eat the humble pie and sued for peace. Many political commentators compared the tenure of Oshiomhole as Chairman of the APC with those of two venerable gentlemen, Chiefs Bisi Akande and John Odigie-Oyegun, and reached the conclusion that he destroyed the dainty legacy they built and took the party to the gutters. Oshiomhole declared that any thief who joined the APC would be forgiven of his transgression and also derided “those who could not bear the pain of rigging”. The final fall of Oshiomhole was woven around the sordid contradictions of what he embodied. He who fought godfathers to a standstill turned around to install himself as a de facto godfather. He knelt on the incumbent governor’s neck to the extent that the former couldn’t breathe. The Governor had to fight back in order not to die of political asphyxiation. What followed was a series of political roforofo which ended in a kung fu that left Oshiomhole badly bruised. He not only got expelled by his Ward, the court upheld the expulsion and President Muhammadu Buhari who had tolerated him all this while kicked him in the mouth and had him fired. Thus began a grace to grass narrative for Oshiomhole. Many had thought that he would learn ennobling lessons from his crash, but not Oshiomhole. After a moment of hibernation, he returned to Edo State at night to join Osagie Ize-Iyamu’s campaign train. When he should have retreated to a farm in Iyamo and make restitution, he is gamboling all over Edo State. He recanted all the terrible things he said about Ize-Iyamu less than four years ago. T he man he called a thief with substantiation has became a saint on joining the APC.

Health / Group Holds Webinar On Impact Of COVID-19 Against Urhobo Economy by oghenemario: 7:32pm On May 13, 2020 |
Group holds webinar on impact of COVID-19 against Urhobo economy As the world continues to battle the COVID-19 pandemic with its devastating effect on global economy, the Urhobo Economic and Investment Group (UEIG) has held a webinar to discuss the effect on the people of the area. The webinar which held on April 27 centred on 'The impact of COVID-19 on the Economy of the Urhobo Nation'. Convener of the Urhobo Economic and Investment Group, Mr Kingsley Ubiebi who welcomed participants of Urhobo extraction across the globe to the epoch making event said the webinar was focused on enlightening the people on the implications of the COVID-19 in the economy of Urhobo Nation, and also to proffer workable solutions on how to tackle the challenges ahead of Post COVID-19 era. According to him, the world is currently in a lurch, facing one of its most overwhelming challenges since the dawn of the 21st century. "The novel coronavirus, a disease that has infected millions of people around the world, and claimed tens of thousands lives remains a puzzle that the world is yet to unravel. "Sadly, Nigeria is in the league of affected countries and the outbreak of the virus in the country has necessitated the shutting of most human activities in the past weeks, with dire socio-economic implications. "The Urhobo nation is not insulated from the debilitating effects associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, as the socio-economic activities of its sons and daughters have also been negatively affected. The webinar featured a team of carefully selected speakers with deep rooted knowledge on finance, business and economic matters and was moderated by Dr. Benson Uwheru, Partner, Ernst & Young Nigeria. The session was kicked started with an inspiring speech in which he who enjoined all Urhobo sons and daughters to prioritise their health and safety during the pandemic by adhering to the safety protocol issued by relevant health and government authorities. In his special delivery, Dr Uwheru identified some of the major socio-economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic to include reduced access to liquidity and collapsing demand for businesses, policy uncertainty and distorted supply chain, and the obvious difficulty in inventory management occasioned by increasing complexity in getting raw materials from overseas. Other speakers at the webinar include Ms. Helen Emore, President and founder of FMG Empowerment, Chief Francis Okumagba, Engr. Henry Orhojoma, CEO, AQME Technology, Kelvin Dafiaghor, the Chief Promoter for Artificial Intelligence in Africa, Dr Albert Ofuoku of Delsu Abraka. At the end of the robust discussion, the participants resolved that: • The COVID-19 pandemic has negatively impacted the Urhobo nation with debilitating effects on the socio-economic activities of our people. However, the health and safety of all Urhobos and other Nigerians in Urhobo land remains an utmost priority. Therefore, everyone should pay adequate attention to all Covid-19 safety guidelines such as wearing of face masks, washing hands with soap under running water at regular intervals, use of alcohol-based sanitizer, practice social distancing and personal hygiene. • As part of strategic response to the harsh effect of the pandemic, Urhobo people must build, nurture and maintain strong socio-economic bonds evident in their cooperation and collaboration among themselves as there is strength in unity. • MSMEs operating in Urhobo land should register their business entities with the Corporate Affairs Commission, and maintain a well-structured system and operation for sustainable growth and development. • A Free Trade Zone with constant electricity supply should be established in Delta State to host petrochemical and allied industries, food processing plants and other economic activities that will promote opportunities in Urhobo land. We encourage Urhobo Leaders to use their vast network to help with the establishment of free trade zone in Urhoboland. • Urhobo farmers should be encouraged to form cooperative societies that will enable them have access to financial opportunities and build their capital base. Those still practising subsistence farming should urgently consider the more beneficial option of going into large scale cultivation of both food and cash crops. • Fertilizer plants should be established in Delta State and efforts should be made to re-engage experts leaving the oil industry as a result of the current challenges in the sector. • There is need to diversify our investment focus to other critical sectors especially technology based investments, given that the next generation of businesses will be largely technology driven.. Essentially too, Urhobo youths should think outside the box and find ways to take their businesses online as there are great marketing potentials on the Internet. |

Politics / COVID-19: Why We Are Locking Down In Delta - Aniagwu by oghenemario: 3:49pm On Mar 27, 2020 |
COVID-19: Why we are locking down in Delta - Aniagwu The Delta State Government has reaffirmed the necessity of a lockdown in the state, saying it is to protect lives of citizens against the Coronavirus. The Commissioner for Information in the state, Mr Charles Aniagwu, made this known while briefing newsmen on the outcome of a meeting between Governor Ifeanyi Okowa-led Central Committee on Prevention of COVID-19 Pandemic in Delta with chairmen of local government councils in the state, on Friday in Asaba. Aniagwu said that as custodians at the grassroots, council chairmen had the responsibility of sensitizing local communities on the pandemic and to ensure full compliance of all measures announced by the state government, in their domains. According to him, the need for us to shutdown has become very imperative because if people don't move, the virus will not move and so, we appeal to our people to assist the government in averting the spread into our state. "The governor today continued the sensitisation of key stakeholders in the state. This afternoon, we held meetings with chairmen of local government councils with the Commissioner of Police and others in attendance. "The essence is to inform them of the steps we have taken as a state, and also intimate them on the need for them to go back to their different local governments and continue the sensitisation and be part of the different actions we have also taken. "Emphasising the need for people to stay at home, the governor has directed that from 6 a.m. on Sunday, no vehicle will be allowed into out of the state, while on April 1, all markets will be closed. ``So, we need the cooperation of the local governments to be able to take these messages to their people and also ensure that they cooperate with the security agencies in their different domains with a view to ensuring effective implementation of these decisions that the government has taken. "We are happy to report that the chairmen have already started taking actions and what they are doing will deepen our desire to get our people to understand why we have to shutdown at a time like this,’’ he said. The commissioner acknowledged that the prevailing situation was not the best of times for the people, but expressed confidence that ``if we don't move, the virus will not move. The virus is not airborne and once we are able to get our people to observe these different behaviours, particularly social distancing and closure of markets, we are sure that we will overcome. "We give God the glory that up till this time, we don't have it and we pray we don't have it." On his part, Chairman, Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Delta, Mr Itiako Ikpokpo, said that the meeting emphasised the need for council chairmen to go back to their areas and continue the sensitisation on why government's directives on the shutdown should be strictly obeyed. He said that it was in the best interest of everybody to stay at home and maintain social distancing where necessary. "Today we had an extended Joint Allocations and Accounts Committee (JAAC) meeting. It was extended because we had the Commissioner of Police, the Director, Department of State Services, Secretary to the State Government and of course, Commissioner for Information. ``Top on the agenda was the issues concerning the COVID-19 pandemic and the need for us to look at the areas of concern, and as you are aware, the governor has given direction on this matter in an address to people of the State and country, three times now. "Where we are now is that we are preparing for a total lockdown or shutdown and we have taken very far-reaching decisions which include time and hours where filling stations can operate, because people really need to stay in their homes. ``Markets need to be shut down; essentials like food can only be sold in large spaces like primary schools where wares can be sold and shut by 4 p.m. "We also agreed that marriages of more than 20 people in attendance can't hold, and of course, the issues of churches and CAN have been over-emphasised. ``We have taken the issues of health very seriously and we have directed that all chairmen should go back to their respective local government areas and ensure that markets are fumigated and cleared. "Emergency numbers have also been placed on red alert and basically, when you come from abroad in this kind of situation, you must self-isolate; so don't see it as infringing on your rights when people report your presence to the medical health workers,’’ Ikpokpo said. He assured that the police, the DSS and other stakeholders were ready to enforce the directives ``for the health and safety of our people’’. "All councils have called meetings of different segments - market women, stakeholders of all groups, Presidents-Generals of communities, youth leaders, women leaders, NULGE, NUT and traditional rulers in all local government councils where this message has been passed to them. "So, what we are going back to do is to reiterate the fact that there is need for us to abide and adhere for the safety of our own people," he added.

Politics / COVID-19: Tambuwal Commends Okowa On Establishment Of Isolation Centre by oghenemario: 7:11pm On Mar 19, 2020 |
COVID-19: Tambuwal commends Okowa on establishment of isolation centre Governor of Sokoto State, Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, on Thursday commended his Delta counterpart, Sen. (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, for establishing an isolation centre and adopting other measures to check Coronavirus case when detected in the state. He made the commendation in Asaba while fielding questions from newsmen after inspecting facilities at the centre located at the Federal Medical Centre. Tambuwal, who was in Delta to inaugurate two road projects - Mariam Babangida Way, Asaba and Ogwashi-Uku/Ubulu-Uno road, expressed joy that Okowa had taken proactive steps to ensure the safety of citizens. He described the governor as a workaholic, who believed in the delivery of democratic dividends. "I have been in the state since morning; I have gone round and before now, I have been aware of the infrastructural developments being pursued and completed by the government of the state under the leadership of Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa. "I must commend him and his team for the transformation of the state in spite of paucity of funds and general economic depression; other sectors in the state are not suffering because he has achieved great results when it comes to job creation for the youths in the state. "A lot of progress is ongoing in the state and the isolation centre will help to tackle the effects of Covid-19 which is affecting several nations globally and a lot of modifications have been made to accommodate patients, should there be victims of the disease in the state. "With all the preparations being made, I believe that Delta State is getting ready for the virus and we hope that we shall not have any reason or cause to use this centre. "On medical emergencies such as this, we do not look to one direction for solutions as it is our collective responsibility like Gov. Okowa is already taking preventive measures to tackle this crisis. ``This goes to show that it is our collective responsibility as leaders, to look after the welfare and wellbeing of our citizens,’’ he said. Tambuwal urged leaders in the country to rise to the challenge of the global pandemic. He said ``I am appealing that as leaders, we should collectively rise to this challenge which is why when Governors of North West met in Kaduna, we resolved that public schools in the region be closed. ``We made sure that we took certain proactive measures which also includes coming up with isolation centres such as this. "So, it is a collective responsibility of all, but, I will as well appeal to the Federal Government to do more, especially in terms of making the people to be aware of the dangers that Coronavirus truly pose. ``The government should take more drastic measures, such as closure of airports, to limit the entry of people into our nation." Responding to some question, Okowa stated that the effects of the coronavirus on nations called for concern and that the isolation centre which had been established for such cases was important. "We have just finished touring the isolation centre and a lot of modifications had to be made the moment the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) came and gave their advice on how best to tackle the disease. "The modifications made will ensure the greater safety and care of patients as well as the medical staff that will be attending to them. ``It will also ensure that patients can safely interact with their visitors and family members without having to pass any infection to them, and with an incinerator provided, equipment used to treat any patient in this facility will be immediately incinerated to ensure proper care of patients," he said.

(Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, has congratulated Mr Victor Ochei on his appointment as Executive Director, Maritime Labour and Cabotage Services at Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA). Ochei, a former Speaker of Delta House of Assembly, was recently inaugurated into the NIMASA board following the re-organisation in the agency’s top hierarchy. In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Olisa Ifeajika, in Asaba, the governor said that Ochei's appointment was well-deserved and urged him to use his good office to attract development to Delta. He particularly charged him to look the way of Warri Port and other sea ports in Delta, which had been roundly neglected and therefore, very inactive and ensure that they were revived, adding that the executive director should also make the protracting issue of dredging of the approach to Warri Port his utmost concern. Okowa remarked that Ochei, an engineer, lawyer, former lawmaker and businessman, was ably qualified for the position considering his years of service to the state and country. He said “as a Speaker, Ochei was brilliant, vibrant and exceptional as he carried his office with finesse and contributed immensely to the development of infrastructure at the State Assembly complex. "On behalf of the government and people of Delta, we thank President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing our illustrious son, Engr. Victor Ochei, as Executive Director, Maritime Labour and Cabotage Services in Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA). "At the House of Assembly, Ochei related very well with his colleagues and I have no doubt that he will bring his wealth of experience garnered over the years to turn things around in NIMASA.
