It is really annoying to see what we have turned education to. TheNextAce: |
The founder of Lekki British International School, Lagos, Dr Abiodun Laja has added a new milestone to her impressive 40-year journey in education , having bagged the Doctor of Education (Ed.D Honoris Causa) from the Commonwealth University. Dr. Laja who is one of the youngest women to courageously brace the challenge of providing quality private education in Nigeria also received the Master Class Certificate in Leadership and Management from the London Graduate School. A statement by her corporate affairs officer affirmed that these recent achievements by the Executive Director of Lekki British School, were simply a recognition of her exemplary courage, sense of vision and resilience. At a very young age, Ms Laja founded the ABC Nursery Land . She was the first young person to start a private school at that time as private school used to be run by retired teachers. She started off with one school and in a span of three years, she had expanded the school to four in different locations in Lagos. After running the schools successfully for 25 years, she established the very first British boarding school in Lagos, Lekki British International School (LBIS). LBIS runs from crèche to sixth form and also caters to children with special learning needs. Dr Laja had her Primary and Secondary education in Nigeria after which she proceeded to England to study at St Nicholas Montessori Knightsbridge London. Upon her return to Nigeria, she worked with reputable top schools in Lagos including Adrao International School, Victoria Island and St Saviours School, which is a British curriculum setup. It was based on her passion, knowledge and experience that she ventured to establish institutions that sought to ensure that the Nigerian child had access to education that empowered them to compete confidently with other children all over the world.

LOL, I really can't thank them enough. If you are a teacher i say on behalf of all parents "Thank You" Otulord: |
It is the holiday seasons, many parents are happy that their children are at home, or are they? Below are 5 things parents go through during this holiday period. 1. Sleepless nights. Most children sleeps late in the night, some sleep as late as 12am ans parents have to stay awake to ensure they go to bed 2. Shouting!! Nigerian parents should be given award in shouting, especially mothers. In most cases even a call for their child to get them a remote close to them must be echoed around the house with an equally ending exclamation ooo!!! 3. Arranging the House. We all know that with all those shouting children will still be children. so parents have to endure the never ending quarrels with siblings, the fights with pets and the drumming and mini reality TV going on all at once in the house. 4. Worry/Anxiety!!: Working parents will always panic and call home several times to check if something has been broken and will be happy when told 'John is sleeping'. LOL 5. Joy!! Irrespective of their headache, crying and fights we still love our children and it is always a thing of joy when your child breaks something ( as long as the child is not hurt). It takes a whole village to raise a child is a very popular African saying. Many parents and Educators have organized themselves to offer solutions to challenges their children face both in education and in the personal growth of the child. A group known as concerned parents and Educators have been doing this for years on Facebook, with over 30k members. I came across their campaign against drug abuse and i decide to share. If you are a parent or educator you can join them via this link https://www./SchoolFinders/?ref=group_cover

Wow!! Thanks Doctorshub Nigeria for this. |
Okay, so it no longer news that Nigerians use bleaching creams more than any other country in the world! All thanks to all the slay mamas and slay daddies. They have successfully transformed a practice that was hitherto considered sinful and repugnant into a trend that everyone now wants to adopt. And what does that do to the bleaching cream cosmetic industry? It makes it boom! And that is precisely the state of things: the industry is a multi billion dollar industry. Say whatever you like, bleaching has come to stay, at least for the next 100 years or more. So even with all the health concerns, more people are still still buying them. Either you educate people on how to use the creams in a safe and healthy manner or you force the cosmetics producers to produce new products with nontoxic active ingredients or you can decide to preach from now till tomorrow and watch the incidence of skin cancer soar like an eagle! I choose to do the first one though: to educate people on how to use these products in safe and healthy manner. That said, you must understand that there good bleaching creams and there are very bad ones that can harm you, especially when used over a long period of time. These bad bleaching creams are the ones with active ingredients that have been blacklisted as unsafe for human use. So just before you start using that bleaching cream you just bought, check for the following active ingredients on the labels and if present, return the creams or just flush them down the toilet! 1. Mercury: this is a very toxic and heavy metal that has been banned for its use in bleaching creams in most European countries and even in some African countries like Ivory Coast. However, due to poor regulatory frameworks in Africa, bleaching creams laden with mercury are still finding their way into the hands of millions of people. Mercury, after having accumulated in the body, causes kidney failure and has been known to lower the skin's resistance to fungal infections. 2. Hydroquinone: hydroquinone is another commonly used but toxic ingredient in bleaching creams. While it usually works fine at the beginning, hydroquinone can, later on, darken the skin and permanently discolour it. Any cream that has hydroquinone in excess of 2% (usaully considered as the safe limit) should be flushed down the drain. 3. Mineral oil: mineral oil, quite unfortunately, is one of the commonest ingredients in not just bleaching creams but also in most nonbleaching creams and even baby lotions. It is derived from petroleum and was previously used as a lubricant in machines. It has no nutritional value whatsoever to the skin. Its only charm is that it moisturizes the skin. But don't be deceived. Even with this, it succeeds in plugging the pores of your skin, thereby trapping, underneath the skin, dead bacteria which naturally should have been excreted with sweat. So what do you get in return for the very brief, deceptive moisturizing feel of mineral oil? Acne! Lots of acne. Also, it has been found that prolong use of mineral oil interferes with the endocrine system and can lead to miscarriages, endometriosis and ovulation dysfunction. 4. Parabens: this one has been found to be carcinogenic (it causes cancer). It is usually used as a preservative in bleaching creams because it prolongs the shelf life of the creams. However, it causes cancer and has also been found to cause infertiliy by interfering with the endocrine system. 5. Steroids: steroids are often prescribed for people who have eczema, psoriasis, etc in the form of lotions. Also, it can be inhaled as vapours in patients with asthma to lessen the severity of their attacks. It has other numerous medical uses as well. However, because of it also causes skin lightening, more or less as a side effect, a lot of cosmetics producers often include it in their bleaching creams in the form of hydrocortisone. Usually, problems don't arise when used mildly in no more than 4 weeks. Complications start to manifest when creams with stronger concentrations of hydrocortisone are used for longer periods of time. And the complications are quite grave: hypertension, diabetes, obesity, osteoporosis, ulcers, skin thinning, cataracts and a host of other terrible diseases. The fact is that even when prescribed as treatment for any medical condition, its use is tightly controlled and monitored by the prescribing doctor, and is promptly discontinued at the first notice of side effects. On Rejection of Appointment I, Oginineme proudly join other patriotic Nigerians who have rejected appointments from this dictatorial government headed by Buhari. Here are my reasons; 1. I find it insulting and unprofessional for the president to include my name on such a vital document without consulting me first. I expected that someone from the villa (Aso Rock) should have contacted me first before going public with the list. 2. I would have loved to serve in Buhari's administration, but my conscience won't forgive me, my forefathers will not be kind with me and Amadioha will strike me for accepting to work with a dullard who needs 12 SANS to prove his O'level certification. 3. I respect my constituency just as i respect the President of Nigeria, but I would rather wait till 2019 when Buhari will be voted out because i cannot serve under a man whose spoken English is so bad it needs to be translated to English!! 4. I reject his appointment because unlike people that serve because of financial benefits, i serve because of patriotism and my love for public service. 5. Lastly, I would like to thank Mr President for considering me for this position, however, his flagrant abuse of court rulings, killing of innocent protesters, division of Nigeria into 5% and 98% and his love for #theotheroom is too much for me to ignore. Let me state clearly that i remain open to serve Nigeria in any capacity, but am not just ready to serve under a dumb illiterate who is in love with incompetence. #Myonekobo Source: Palmchat |
OKEKE!!! yeyeboi: |
Just thinking, so we are borrowing from AfDB to fund the 2016 budget and we are going to sell National assets to fund 2017 budget, why do i have a feeling that Nigerians will be asked to contribute their money to fund 2018 budget, am sorry change begins with Buhari and not with me, afterall he was the one that made a fist and shouted change!!. #Myonekobo. Fellow Nigerians, it is no longer news that Nigerians in IDPs are dying of hunger and malnutrition. But it is of great interest to note that the SGF Mr Babachir Lawal, used N270m to clear grass. Note that this Buhari government is not new to grass issues. Remember when Audu Ogbeh said he was going to import grass to feed the cows in the North. Anyway, am just perplexed by the level of corruption currently going on under Buhari, what happened to the body language? What kind of grass did the SGF cut with N270m, or better still, how many hectares did he cut? When did the SGF become the official in charge of the sanitation of the IDP camp? Why have FG not said anything concerning this incident? I lambasted Stella Oduah for buying cars worth millions of Naira, i never knew that we will get to the level of using N270m to cut grass...the shocking part is that pictures from that IDP still shows overgrown grasses( maybe it is time for him to cut it again?) #Myonekobo. The news that Governor Fayose passed a bill making illegal grazing a criminal offense came as shock to many, personally i think it is good to take measure against these attacks since the Federal government does not give a damn. So yesterday i saw the news on palmchat that the state government just sentenced a herdsman to 2 years imprisonment for illegal grazing. I still believe that his case will be appealed and the FG will use its might to get him out of bail just like the case of Ese. But i want to hear from us, do you think Fayose's law is out of serious concern for his state safety or is it political. Thanks for your replies. |
