TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 5 by ogonnan: 8:38am On Aug 04, 2017
anonymousmum:
From 28 weeks, Emirates requires fit to fly from your doctor, with the hospital letterhead.

Must not be dated more than 48 hours before your flight. All of this information is on the Emirates website.

They do not require port health letter.

Airport officials have no business with if you are pregnant or not.
Yekpa! 48 hours ke... e don be for me na! i checked their site and did see the need for the FTF but not the 48hours bit, hence the question on if it was 7 days or whatever.

Hmm... what to do now? my hospital wont give me one after 34 weeks, which was this week and i am travelling next week
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 5 by ogonnan: 9:39pm On Aug 03, 2017
Oh ok, thought i had to have one from my doctor.

I don't mind doing that at all. planned to go early anyway to avoid their matter...... So i assume they will just direct me there or i should go by myself?

Emirates says okay to fly till 36, so shouldnt have issues from them. it is over zealous airport officials that worry me

thanks a lot

Babatwi:
Why not get the fit to fly on the same day you're travelling ,all you need to do is get to the airport a bit early sort it out.

SuperDad:
@ogannan
As regards Visa on Arrival, see below.
Regarding new FAAN policy on travel gestational ages, I doubt it... Once port health certifies and all is proper as per airline policy viz fit-to-fly or medif (as the case may be), I think all is good to go. I stand corrected
thanks a bunch @superdad. been worried. Someone said he had to pay 40K here to get the letter first before his wife could fly with the baby.

Another question please, is it true that fit to fly must have been given within 7 days of travel? i am flying Emirates....
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 5 by ogonnan: 11:57pm On Aug 02, 2017
hallo.. thread 5! wow. had my first baby when we were on 2, i believe. Well done to the faithful and steadfast contributors.
Need help please.... apart from Fit to fly for the airline, is there any restriction imposed by FAAN for travelling? i am hearing now that they have cut it off at not more than 34 weeks.... anyone flown lately after 34 weeks? did u get hassled by FAAN? please let me know.

Also, the new visa on arrival thing, i read on someone's post that you need a letter from Abuja? how is this obtained please?

thanks

hiya all... pele for all the people with poe issues oo.... quick update for Atlanta people.. to God be the glory, i had my baby about 10 days ago at gwinnett. service was lovely. most of the nurses were extremely helpful. can't say much about Dr. Oduros service because by the time he showed up, i was so far gone, it could have been a circus monkey down there and i wont have known the diff....
bill came about 2 days ago. 4165 for me and 1100 for baby. with 40% discount, i'll end up paying about 3k2 or so.... with doctors fees, everything comes to less than 6k.
note
1. i didnt use any pain meds and didn't have any complications so got the lowest basic price. the extra 165 on top was blood test and vaccination
2. be sure to keep calling to ask for bill. they said mine would be ready in 2 weeks but i called almost everyday and got it in less than 8 days
3. same thing with birth certificate... they said go to courthouse on thursday but i went monday and it was ready (had baby on fri). it doesnt hurt to check
can't think of anything else...

TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by ogonnan: 10:24am On Sep 15, 2014
hallos... wanted to give a quick update. in Atlanta now, arrived yesterday. POE was smooth thank God. I got some yuppie guy who was just gisting with me. main things he asked

Immigration Officer: why u coming to US
Me: to have my baby
IO: oh? why US
Me: it makes sense for me financially, medically and family wise.
IO:how far along are u?
Me:35 weeks.
IO: oh so baby is coming next week
Me: noooo... guy. pregnancy is 40weeks
IO : (laughs) i have no idea, i'm a man... so why not where u live? (i dont live in naija)
Me: cos its more expensive... (he gave me a disbelieving look). i said yup. even more than US. plus i'd have to fly my mum over
VO: so why didnt u go back to nigeria
Me: cos the healthcare is not so fantastic
VO: what do u do in bla bla
Me: i work in bla bla.
VO: husband there?
Me: yea
VO: how much u have?
Me: about 8000 plus credit card
VO: any food
me: no

then we gisted about other things while he was typing. and then he stamped me in. i didnt even bring out any document (i had left all in my bag waiting to be asked first before volunteering) but he didnt ask to see any.

Note: 1. preggy mamas, the walk from the plane to the border place na die. abeg no carry plenty hand luggage if you dont really have to. u go tire.
2. i know it has been said before, but it is good to repeat. Try not to lie. in fact, dont try, do not lie!!.
One other officer had seen me on the line and checked my passport. He didnt say anything to me o, just looked at it and gave me back.
then when i was with the IO, the guy made a comment to him and the IO said " yea i know, she already told me"
So apparently, he had seen my big belle and was waiting to see if i'd tell the IO.
sha thank God all went well...

GenoMI: Ok I have just sent you a response, you should get that in your inbox also and you can just click reply grin
ah ah these chicks... y una dey do 2 aside conversation na? please what's the scoop on this Dr Soyoola... if he is cheaper and there are good things said about him, i can port too na...
I think the $2150 for Oduro is already the discounted price. unless there is any further negotiation you can do when he sees your face. @mimibe, as the only one who is there now, can you confirm if Dr. Oduro is open to further nego?
@Genomi- i'm going to be staying with family, so can't help with the accommodation question, pele....
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by ogonnan: 10:09am On Sep 03, 2014
GenoMI: Hi @mimibe, @ogonnan, Great to know you are already there. In terms of accommodation, are you staying in a hotel? I won't be in Atlanta till December by God's Grace.
I was also thinking of using Dr. Oduro and I was told that he's good by someone who used him recently, but that she didn't feel like his service was 'personalised' enough after comparing notes with other mums. Oh well, I guess as long as he knows his work. How much is he charging?
Hallos... he charges $2000 for vaginal i believe but that is if you pay by your first visit (abi @mimibe?). did your friend tell you which part of his services she was impressed with? and what she thought was impersonal about him?

if she didnt feel there was anything wrong while she was there (and was only after comparing), then might still be okay. my doctor now is quite impersonal, so that won't be a deal breaker for me, as long as Oduro is willing to listen, sympathetic and is good at his work (and not a complete meanie), i dont really need him to be my best friend smiley. my own 2 cents sha.
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by ogonnan: 8:29am On Sep 03, 2014
mimibe: I guess u r flying with delta airline! Cos Arik turned me down at 31weeks with doctor's fit to fly.

Delta didn't even ask for any letter! I just went thru easily
yea delta. didn't bother checking any other airline.
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by ogonnan: 5:38am On Sep 03, 2014
mimibe: Well he seem like a good one, he seem to have a lot of clients from Africa, i haven't been to the hospital yet but d doctor's office is just by d hospital, all they told me in Oduro office was that if im in labour I could just go to labour n delivery unit and give them my doctors name and my name should be on his list of patients.
aah... good to know!! thank you....

mimibe: Im using Gwinnett, been in Atlanta for 2weeks now. I'm due in 2 weeks, seen dr Oduro twice.
Hiya @mimibe... i'm also heading to Atlanta next week. will be using Gwinnett and have an appointment to see Dr Oduro. What's the guy like? does he seem like a good doctor (make i no whether to port before i get there). also, have you gone to the hospital yet (i.e. gwinett?) do you have to do any sort of registration there before going to have the baby?
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by ogonnan: 4:07am On Aug 12, 2014
IyaTwins84: I used gwinnett medical. My Bill is almost seven thousand. I had twins tho. And took epidural and circumcised my son at the hospital. If u avoid all these. Ur bill will be really low.
Hi @iyatwins.... congrats on your babies (lol@avoid all these. who wants to avoid twins biko?).
Did the 7thou include doctor's fees? or was that just for the hospital? i thought the circumcision was usually done by the doctor's office and not the hospital? also, how far along were you and did you have to do any labs?
thanks...
