Politics / People's Mandate Stolen By Dapo Abiodun Was Through Bloodshed by OgunNewsFact: 10:34pm On Mar 24, 2023 |
As Dapo Abiodun who was widely rejected by Ogun State People during the 18 March Governorship election struggles to seat forcefully on the number 1 seat in the State through the support of INEC, he should realise that the families of Late Comrade Adeniran Emmanuel Ademola who was killed for him are in pains, mourning their loved one. Late Comrade Adeniran Emmanuel Ademola was the INEC adhoc staff attacked in Sagamu mayhem by APC thugs in a bid to save Dapo Abiodun from the loss which he however suffered in Ogun East. While it beats logic that Dapo Abiodun who was vehemently rejected at home is said to be the winner in areas where people revolted against him for non-performance, several other Ogun people attacked are still in hospitals. While he continues to run helter skelter to Abuja having captured Ogun INEC to confer legitimacy on the stolen mandate, he should know that the world is aware of his pleas to reconfigure the bvas and compromise INEC headquarters which is resisting vehemently. Nothing is hidden! The blood and sweat of Ogun people you betrayed and are now forcing yourself on with the help of Ogun INEC would be a curse on you all until you leave the mandate. We never voted for APC in Ogun, only your cronies are jubilating for the love of their daily bread! Dapo Dapada! 1 Like

Politics / Inec, Gov Dapo Abiodun's Willing Tool And A Debacle To Ogun Peoples Mandate by OgunNewsFact: 3:23pm On Mar 24, 2023 |
INEC, GOV DAPO ABIODUN'S WILLING TOOL AND A DEBACLE TO OGUN PEOPLES MANDATE - Dayo Idowu Though the March 18 Governorship and State House of Assembly elections had come and gone, the mayhem, manipulation, ballot box snatching, violence, rigging, disruption and other irregularities that characterised the exercise in Ogun State would for a long time be remembered. While the votes and wishes of Ogun people were very clear, Political thugs led by one Akibu Titilayo, also known as Efele reportedly invaded various polling units in Ogun East, attacking people and destroying electoral materials, in a bid to save the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC from the imminent shame of defeat. Places like Sagamu, Idowa, Ijebu-Igbo, Ososa, Atiba, Ijebu-Waterside, Remo North and Odogbolu were invaded by thugs who set electoral materials on fire, as officials of INEC and voters fled for safety, while those with no luck, were beating blue black. In Imeko some thumb printed ballot papers for APC were discovered at the point of collation with other rigging methods discovered in some other places while at Itori-Odo in Abeokuta, the thugs broke ballot boxes. Infact, a secondary school teacher, 52 year old Emmanuel Ademola Adeniran was one of the unfortunate victims who were beaten severely and he died two days after. Aside these orgy of violence, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC which was meant to be a neutral arbiter turned itself into an agent of monumental fraud and a debacle to the mandate of the people. The commission displayed crass incompetence as it glaringly failed to conduct a free, fair and credible election while the ruling APC pushes INEC around with impunity. The adhoc staff of INEC bowed to pressure from the anti-democratic forces of the Dapo Abiodun APC led administration by aiding the rigging pattern where bvas accreditation were inflated and already thumb printed papers were mixed with other ballot papers. How do you explain a polling unit in Abeokuta North where number of voters recorded were more than those accredited. All these and other manipulations would not have been possible without the connivance and collaboration of some INEC staff. It would shock you that all these were in an effort to re-elect the incumbent Ogun State governor and governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prince Dapo Abiodun, who despite the violence and cancellation was declared on Sunday as the winner of the election after allegedly polling 276,298 votes, while Ladi Adebutu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 262,383 votes to come second. This no doubt is not the real results as Dapo Abiodun was completely rejected throughout Ogun East where he hails from. Is it not shocking that he allegedly got bloc votes from places like Ifo, Obafemi-Owode , Sango-Ota where their roads are so bad and revolution against him was so pronounced? Dapo Abiodun lost his Remo constituency and this is a clear testament. How logical could he claim legitimacy to have won with votes from Ogun Central and Ogun West without the support of INEC. INEC returning officer in Ogun State Prof. Kayode Adebowale, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan (UI), who announced the results whether out of threat or in completing a deal defied the electoral act despite protests from the PDP, that the governor could not be declared as re-elected because the total number of Permanent Voters Card (PVC) collected in polling units where elections did not hold or were disrupted as well as the rejected votes exceeded the margin of Mr Abiodun’s win. “The electoral act 2022, Section 24 Sub-Section three says where an election has commenced and there is reason to believe that there is or has been substantial disruption of election in a polling unit or constituency or it is impossible to continue with the election, occasioned by the threat to peace and security of electoral officials and materials. The commission shall suspend the election and appoint another date for the continuation of the election or the process." “Secondly, invoking the principle of lead of margin enshrine in the electoral act 2022, the rejected votes according to results submitted to local government by local government are far higher than the lead of margin, the election shall be inconclusive and a rerun should be ordered where necessary." The question is, if governance is all about service, why the need to force yourself on the people? Infact, how do you sleep with a stolen mandate? Is your ambition worth the life of any Ogun citizen? Indeed, it is a sad trajectory that INEC has turned itself into a willing tool in the hands of Dapo Abiodun and a major debacle to the mandate of Ogun people who voted against him. Clearly, a vote of no confidence has been passed on Dapo Abiodun. His declaration by INEC was against the requirements and provisions of the electoral act. If Nigeria's democracy must be protected, INEC must redeem it's image. All democratic watchers are being called upon to stand up against the present Ogun INEC which mission is to destroy this democracy by continuously thwarting the will of the people. The commission’s integrity is hereby being challenged, as the names of the actors are now being written in history for posterity to judge. Politics / SDP Wants Ogun Citizens To Fight Injustice, Warns INEC To Redeem It's Image by OgunNewsFact: 5:49pm On Mar 21, 2023 |
"Era of deceptive governance over', SDP wants Ogun citizens to stand together to fight injustice, warns INEC to redeem it's image" The Governorship Candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ogun state, Engr. Tony Ojeshina has described the declaration of Dapo Abiodun as the winner of the just concluded gubernatorial election as a rape on democracy and electoral act. In a press statement issued in Abeokuta, the state capital, Ojeshina noted the governorship election should have been declared inconclusive, owing to the facts on ground with the sections of the 2022 electoral act. “It is clear to all that the governorship election should have been declared INCONCLUSIVE based on hard facts on ground and the 2022 Inec electoral act. “The SDP and other coalition partners remain committed to the cause of ensuring that Hon.Ladi Adebutu gets justice and occupies his rightful position as the legitimate Governor of Ogun State. “The era of deceptive governance is over, all Ogun State citizens must stand together to fight this injustice and INEC must use this opportunity to redeem her image. “A deceptive government that ignores the yearning and needs of the people for over three years but comes out at election campaign time giving out “Greek gifts”. “SDP remains committed to the course of creating a MODEL STATE and will join hands with PDP to actualize this. “We are counting on the judiciary, the peoples’ last arbiter to salvage this travesty of Justice, he said INEC had on Sunday declared Abiodun the winner of the election after polling 276,298 votes, while Ladi Adebutu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 262,383 votes to come second, despite alleged cancellation on some polling units, which mathematically was above the lead margin between the two front runners.

Politics / Ogun State Deserves Better, Ole Lo Ba Omo Je! by OgunNewsFact: 7:55am On Mar 13, 2023 |
Ogun State deserves better, OLE LO BA OMO JE! Integrity is one of the greatest qualities of a good leader! Yes, the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles. As you know, the Gateway state is known for many first, in the areas of journalism, medicine, religion and other endeavors of life. No wonder, the likes of Pa Obafemi Awolowo, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Professor Wole Soyinka, Dr Tai Solarin, Chief MKO Abiola and other notable personalities hailed from the state. Today, Is it not a great dis-service and dishonour that one convicted felon in USA, one Shawn Michael Davids, who was jailed in 1986 for credit card fraud in Miami Dade Florida, USA is now calling the shots? Records revealed that the criminal with number 8600B9436 was jailed for committing offences which bordered on credit card fraud, petty theft and cheque forgery. He was arrested on November 7, 1986, for fighting and injuring a police officer in an attempt to resist arrest. No wonder, one of his aides, Ruffy, was arrested for the same kind of fraud! A character like this can not honour simple agreement. He won't respect pensioners or pay workers. Anyone who can rig an election to stay put in power won't do anything good than to pilfer our patrimony. Let's be well informed, no miracle would change a hardened man who jumped from a high building to escape to a decent individual. Ole lo bomo je! Let's save our dear State and reclaim it's lost glory! Politics / Exposed!!!! Sen. Ibikunle Amosun's Desperation To Bribe Inec. by OgunNewsFact: 4:30pm On Aug 14, 2022 |
EXPOSED!!!! SEN. IBIKUNLE AMOSUN'S DESPERATION TO BRIBE INEC. "Those whom the gods wish to destroy they first make mad" is a very apt description for the public disgrace and political humiliation which Sen. Ibikunle Amosun has courted the past few days, due to his desperation in destroying our performing Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun. Amosun's APM adventure failed woefully because in his characteristic hubris, he undermined some APM young turks in their 30s, who, not timid as he thought, looked into his eyeballs and refused to release the guber ticket to him despite the money he dangled before them. One would have thought this would humble Amosun and provoke a deep introspection, the contrary was the case. Ever an aggressive person and blinded by his hatred for Prince Dapo Abiodun, Amosun went forum-shopping on the night of Thursday, August 11, 2022, just some 18 hours to INEC deadline for the conduct of the 2022 primaries. From 6pm Thursday evening till early morning of Friday, August 12, 2022, Amosun tried several political parties such as AA, he failed. He tried Accord Party, he failed. He tried Kola Abiola's PRP, he failed. Finally, he tried ADC and discovered that there was already a scheduled State Assembly primaries to fill some Assembly slots. Amosun quickly went into a frenzy, he tucked his tiny tail between his tiny legs and courted people he had sworn by his parents' grave never to have anything to do with again, politically. Like a dog returning to his vomit, he sought the help of his old political foes because he was told that they (Chief Bode Mustapha and Mr. Gboyega Isiaka) have some measure of control over Ogun ADC and its guber candidate. Whether it was for money or their closet hatred for Prince Dapo Abiodun, they also put their grey hairs to the use of, and became errand boys to, Ibikunle Amosun. Despite all of these, the time was still too short for Amosun and these allies to achieve any guber primary as the INEC monitoring team refused to conduct anything other than the State Assembly primaries that was on their schedule. Thus went in flame Amosun's quest. Again, a rational person would have paused to reflect, not Amosun, always full of himself: the crowned "king of bile" (King of bad belle). He reached out to some presumed power bloc within INEC to help him contact the Ogun REC so that the Primary report (or lack of it thereof) could be doctored to indicate that a guber primary was held and that the pint-sized Biyi Otegbeye, emerged winner. He also insisted that the Assembly candidates that were returned as winners in APM at the Amosun-arranged Thursday Primary be loaded as winners in ADC. He didn't even reckon that this would provoke double nomination, an affront to the 2022 electoral act. When he was informed that ADC did not upload any new guber name as at the 6pm deadline on Friday, August 12, 2022, Amosun bragged that the Aso rock cabals would wade in to direct the INEC Chairman to allow ADC to load the name secretly. Amosun doesn't even know that digital footprints come with time stamps that would be an evidence in court to show that the name was loaded after the deadline. That is even if his bragging succeeds. Is it the Aso Rock cabal, who have told several people that they torpedoed Amosun's presidential quest due to his arrogant nature, that would now assist him to take over Ogun State? Just as they helped him in 2019? O ma se o. In any case, the plan leaked. As we write, a strong petition has been prepared by the Ogun State APC to the National caucus of APC to expel Amosun from APC for anti-party activities and have him arrested by Security agencies for trying to subvert electoral justice in Nigeria. Evidence being some of his recorded phone conversations. Added to this, is a petition to INEC Chairman and Ogun REC not to allow Amosun's filthy lucre destroy their illustrious careers. Above all, Amosun needs to be reminded that he doesn't own Ogun State. The people are wiser now. His desperation is to have a puppy-sized puppet (pun intended) as Ogun Governor so that he could have unfettered access to the treasury of the State. Amosun is already broke. In fact, out of the N150m bribe he promised to pay ADC National officials, the meagre N20m deposit he made was sourced from contributions from his political allies. What a man! If APM young turks (in their mid 30s oh) could land Amosun a bloody nose from a political uppercut, a pure technical KO of sort, one wonders what gives him the impression that he could take on Prince Dapo Abiodun, an incumbent. Amosun also needs to know that no one, other than the unthinking dregs of the society, would ever do his bidding again because almost every one has seen through his populist posture as mere personal aggrandizement. His several frantic phone conversations are all over the place. This time around, Amosun will not go scot free. His political funeral has begun and his political tombstone shall read: Herein lies the political corpse of Ibikunle Amosun who worked so hard for his State (or was it his pocket?) but destroyed his legacy with his tin god "tinumi ni ma se" attitude. Ki ori inu wa ki o ma ba ti ode wa je...

Politics / Tunji Egbetokun Will Ruin Governor Dapo Abiodun by OgunNewsFact: 1:07pm On Jul 13, 2021 |
TUNJI EGBETOKUN WILL RUIN GOVERNOR DAPO ABIODUN as APC integrity Group discovers double registration and false declaration of age by OGUNSOLA ADESINA LANRE It is no news that one of the power brokers in Ogun State today is the former speaker of the state house of Assembly, Tunji Egbetokun who takes vital decisions for Governor Dapo Abiodun. His connect with the Governor , Chief of Staff and the SSG of the administration makes him so Powerful that he is alleged to be receiving the amount of 2millon naira from some caretaker chairman of some local govt. No wonder he is hell bent on forcing this fraudulent OGUNSOLA ADESINA LANRE for his own personal gains on the Obafemi-Owode local government against the decision of the people . Today there is another allegation of double INEC registration and false declaration of age against him, read details below ... 12th of July, 2021 OBAFEMI OWODE WON'T VOTE DAPO ABIODUN'S FRAUDULENT CANDIDATE, OGUNSOLA ADESINA LANRE: ...2 other fraudulent activities discovered Our appeal to His Excellency, Governor Dapo Abiodun. Dear Editor, The All Progressives Congress, APC Integrity Group of Obafemi-Owode local government Area, is again writing to your medium, to intimate you of our discovery of two other fraudulent activities engaged in by the candidate of our Party in the forthcoming Local Government elections in Ogun State, OGUNSOLA ADESINA LANRE who was earlier accused of certificate forgery despite our warnings to Governor Dapo Abiodun to prevent installing another fraudster in his government. It will jolt you that the said candidate, OGUNSOLA ADESINA LANRE, being forced by Governor Dapo Abiodun on the Local Government registered twice with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, thus entitled to two Permanent Voter Cards, PVC, against the commission's warning that Nigerians who engaged in double voter registration will be liable to one year imprisonment, according to section 117 of the Electoral Act. Attached are the proofs of the registration which can be verified by anybody on the INEC website. In one of the documents he registered on the 25th of January, 2011 with the name OGUNSOLA, ADESINA OLANREWAJU with voter identification number 030DF100E9295965599 as a public servant born on the 8th of June, 1972 while in another he registered on the 15th of June, 2017 with the name OGUNSOLA, ADESINA LANRE with voter identification number 90F5B07EC8497525458 as a businessman born on the 8th of June, 1976. To this end he is parading two different age declarations with thesame day and Month, (8th of June) but with different years, 1972 and 1976. This act of deceit, false declaration of age and swearing on oath amounts to perjury under section 118 of the Criminal Code which could fetch him a minimum of fourteen years imprisonment. It will be recalled, that this same candidate had tendered a fake statement of result from the Olabisi Onabanjo University, OOU, as claimed by him, in the documents submitted to the screening Committee of the All Progressives Congress of Obafemi/Owode. This was exposed by a letter of response from OOU which was signed by its Deputy Registrar, Mrs Y.O Ogunsanwo on behalf of the Registrar "indicating that the said statement of results submitted to the Screening Committee and for which clarification was sought did not emanate from the University". It is quite clear that with all these fraudulent practices , "a fraud will always be a fraud", thus OGUNSOLA ADESINA LANRE, who had lived all his life with corrupt practices as shown in these documents will not change tomorrow. People like this should not be forced on us to lead, hence OGUNSOLA ADESINA LANRE is unfit, dishonest and can not be transparent or accountable to the people of Obafemi-Owode local government area, if mistakenly elected as the Council Chairman. The APC Integrity group for the umpteenth time is hereby cautioning Governor Dapo Abiodun from making another mistake of putting a fraudster and certificate forger as the Chairman of the local Government Council. The people of Obafemi Owode Local Government are well known for their integrity, honesty and sincerity, thus it would be a minus if a fraudster is made the Chairman. Comrade Tunji Adegbola Secretary

Politics / Governor Dapo Abiodun And The Many Fraudsters In The Governance Of Ogun State by OgunNewsFact: 7:39pm On Jun 10, 2021 |
Governor Dapo Abiodun and the many fraudsters in the governance of Ogun State It is not a coincidence that there are many fraudsters, criminally minded and corrupt individuals in the government and governance of Ogun State today. When Prof Sidi Osho who was reportedly dismissed by the Ogun State owned Olabisi Onabanjo University secretly assumed office as the commissioner for education, science and technology in the state one would have thought it was a mistake. Osho's dismissal letter went viral after she was nominated by Gov Dapo Abiodun as a member of his cabinet in December, 2019. Of Course the governor condoned her until she was deemed not fit for the position in a State where distinguished people like Nobel Laurette Prof. Wole Soyinka, Prof Tai Solarin and others came from . As if that was not enough, the commissioner for environment, Mr Abdul-Balogun was accused of attempted rape by a teenager in January, when a 16year old secondary School student, Barakat Melojuekun, accused Mr Abdul-Balogun of attempting to rape her in his residence on December 31, 2020. She alleged that the commissioner fondled her breasts while reciting incantations, apparently to scare her. She also said her screams forced Me Abdul-Balogun to jump off her and offer her N2,000 to shut up. The commissioner was later suspended. The next in the line of fraud was Governor Dapo Abiodun's, Senior Special Assistant, Bidemi Rufai, who was arrested and is presently answering questions over $350,000 internet fraud allegation levelled against him by the U.S. government. Rufai was arrested at the John F Kennedy International Airport in New York based on criminal complaint. According to the US Department of Justice, District of Washington, 42-year-old Rufai was alleged to have used the pseudonym Sandy Tang and the stolen identities of more than 100 Washington residents to file fraudulent claims with Employment Security Department for unemployment benefits last year during the COVID-19 pandemic. One would have thought Governor Abiodun would have learnt his lessons with the embarrassment and the public outcry the criminal acts causes the govt but it is not so, as he is again trying to force another fraudster and certificate forger, OGUNSOLA ADESINA LANRE on the Obafemi Owode local government. Investigations revealed that the said OGUNSOLA has promised to give 5million naira monthly each to Chief Kola Sorinola and former speaker, Tunji Egbetokun. Ofcourse , the governor can not do anything since he has a similar issue. 'Don't force a fraudster on Obafemi/Owode', Youth Group Cautions Governor Abiodun, indicts aspirant One of the aspirants contesting the Chairmanship Position of Obafemi-Owode Local Government in the forthcoming Local Government, Ogun State Elections , Ogunsola Adesina Lanre , has been accused of forgery and fraud by a Group, the All Progressives Congress, APC, Integrity Youth. The group which stated this in a press release signed by its Secretary, Tunji Adegbola , cautioned Governor Dapo Abiodun not to make another mistake of putting a fraudster and certificate forger as the Chairman of the local Government Council. The APC Integrity Youth stated that , "the said Ogunsola Adesina Lanre did not posses any certificate or statement of result from the Olabisi Onabanjo University, OOU, as claimed by him, in the documents submitted to the screening Committee of the All Progressives Congress of Obafemi/Owode which went further to clarify from the institution. This according to the APC Integrity group, can be proved with a letter of response from OOU which was signed by its Deputy Registrar, Mrs Y.O Ogunsanwo on behalf of the Registrar "indicating that the said statement of results submitted to the Screening Committee and for which clarification was sought did not emanate from the University". The APC Integrity Group said the people of Obafemi Owode Local Government are well known for their integrity, honesty and sincerity, thus it would be a minus if a fraudster is made the Chairman. The group also accused some power brokers in the Party of wanting to force the aspirant on the local government by presenting his secondary school certificate and withdrawing the contentious OOU statement of result. The statement further reads, that leaders in the LG are against this, with a foresight that it would be another bitter pill for the governor if such certificate forger was made the chairman of Obafemi-Owode Local Government Council as experienced by the present administration in the past. The group attached copies of the interest of expression form of the aspirant submitted to the screening Committee, purported response from Olabisi Onabanjo University, his Curriculum Vitae and the alleged falsified notification of result of Ogunsola Adesina Lanre stating that he has second class honour (lower Division) B.A philosophy studied between 1997 to 2002 from the then Ogun State University. The end has not been seen if only to prove that the OOU statement of result is fake and a forged document, and that nothing good will come from someone who can present a fake certificate . Obafemi-Owode will resist all attempts to foist a fraud on us

Politics / Unifying The Great Rivers Of Niger And Benue - Femi Kawonise by OgunNewsFact: 5:20pm On May 07, 2021 |
Unifying the great rivers of Niger and Benue - Femi Kawonise A Nigeria united as one would be one of the most formidable forces the world has ever known. Appreciating or conceptualising this would cast to mind the cataclysmic events that ensued in the Roman empire which spelt the beginning of the end of the great Roman civilisation. Right before the Roman Empire had a downward decline they had always thrived by making sure the border tribes were never united. They kept this stratagem by sowing seeds of distrust and discontent between the border tribes (destroying the only thing that could make the borders unify and become stronger). That ignoble seed the Romans sowed always worked, until Fritigern (a single man) observed this phenomenon and using his influence as a local gothic chieftain, united the tribes of the goths and the Alans against the Romans. The result of this coalition was disastrous for the Romans, as the battle that ensued took the life of a Roman emperor which was the second time in the history of the Roman Empire that this ever occurred. The Roman Empire had to make concessions to Fritigern. Same way, if Nigeria is united as we’ve been in time past, we would grow strong and no elite or individual will be able to sow seeds of discord among us Nigerians. We will become the ubermensch, unable to be brought down by any external or internal force. As we are now glaringly uncovering, the game plan by the super elite is to sow seeds of discord so we the masses are not powerful enough to take the initiative. This tactic has been the work of deleterious men masking themselves as Nigerian patriots who we know are the super rich politically classed elite. They have decided to give our reality a false hope and a frail existence under In order to keep our minds in despair. They want us thinking about our kids and whether they would live in fear and better traumatised about how the future of Nigeria would be. I know for a fact that Nigeria is not merely a geographical location; Nigeria is Nigeria because of the peoples that coexist in it, and that is our reality. Our future is in jeopardy if we do not protect the innocence and mental health of our reality and accepting same. Our reality is clearly pregnant of being totally unified. We’ve lived as one in Nigeria for more than a century. Which European country can boast of such feat with so much ethnic diversity? Even the Europeans that speak the same language and have the same culture war against each other and are not half as united as we are. The morality of the average Nigerian has been eroded, and this is as a result of the games the elite and ruling class are playing. Using its citizens as pawns to achieve their own selfish ends. I looked at our founding fathers and I saw the qualities that made them great, which is what the present leadership lacks. The primal qualities I found in those great leaders are: Virtue Fidelity Discipline Perseverance Dignity And without these qualities, which I know we mostly possess, Nigeria would be in a steady state of decline till the Nigeria we once knew is no more. If you look at all of history, most great empires are brought to their knees from within. It usually starts with a little decadence, ignoring just one of the values founding fathers bequeathed unto the people. And the rot begins, just like a toad which is in a pool of cold water not realising that the pool is heating up gradually till it gets to the boiling point. At that point, it is too late for the toad to jump out and it eventually dies in the pool of hot boiling water. To avert that sort of calamity, we have to rediscover our morals and thread the path our founding fathers took. I often hear that the northern part of Nigeria is the problem. Any one that makes this statement can’t be blamed because it is a misjudgment of the character of the north. The northern masses as part of their culture are loyal people, of which quality has shown throughout our history from the great legacies of Ahmadu Bello, Tafawa Balewa and so on. I greatly admire in them their loyalty to the cause of Nigeria and bonding to their ruling class and elite. Just like during the Nazi era, the Germans’ loyalty was to Hitler, and the world was not surprised when the citizens played the dictates of his will. Northerners exert the will of the rulling class but this has never been the problem. Do you see where I’m going with this? If the northern elite have a good heart and love for their people, most definitely you will see the trickle down effect on the masses. But as we can see time and time again they have a sinister heart, and of course those loyal to these so called northern elite would bring that evil idea to reality. So you see the problem of the north is not as complicated, the problem resides with just a few individuals trying to cause mayhem. The present day Nigeria is advantaged with the bliss of population and diversity. This advantage as radiant as it views, is callously being dismembered by the petty little talks of secession and division. The advantage our country bears to an ordinary entrepreneur is gloated with immeasurable opportunities, the individual is gilded with the warmth that he has access to a teeming customer base, and such individual works hard to put it to fruition. The United Kingdom’s economy with all its human intellectual prowess and historical antecedents cannot be ranked with economies like that of the United States and other populated countries. In a little perspective, products and services exported from the United States are first consumed and utilised by its citizens even much before such product or service is exported to other nations. In any case from all available case studies, there has never been any country that has seceded that benefitted more from the division. In context, the recent Czechoslovakian split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia, was a prime example that showcased a sharp plummet in both countries’ GDP. Population size as we all know has always been incredibly low for advanced European countries. A feign theory would have it that if these european countries had stayed together and worked out their differences they would be stronger collectively as one, and even be a greater European power. But now any major economic activity in those regions don’t really affect the status quo on the international stage. We as humans have always let petty issues prevent us from forging a way to work out existing issues. Painting a picture, using Nigeria as the case study, if Nigeria secedes into the three geo-political zones, It is expected that within a matter of years which may not even reach a decade, these geopolitical zones will start to feel the winds of discontent blow from spilt factions. From personal experience this phenomenon has played out severally. In the West, there has been this not-so-muted discontent amongst other Southwest states, that Ogun State has produced most of the political leaders that ruled the region and the larger national entity as Premier, Presidents, Vice President and Speaker of House of Representatives. The current Vice President hails from the west is from Ogun State. Also on another level of abstraction, within Ogun state there is agitation that there has never been a governor produced by the Yewa zone of the State. What is obvious here is that the human nature has never been satisfied, internal contradictions that are fiercer than exogenous ones will still play out no matter the setting of the polity at play. If we as Nigerians can rise above this base human instinct, we will truly become the master Nation. No one tribe or region is the problem, just as incompetence does not have race, tribe or skin color and any individual’s machination dividing us along these tribal lines are out for their selfish gains and not for betterment of the people. * Femi Kawonise, a software engineer, wrote from Abuja 1 Like |

Politics / Deconstructing Tunde Bakare - Sina Kawonise by OgunNewsFact: 7:06pm On Dec 25, 2020 |
Deconstructing Tunde Bakare - Sina Kawonise For those who haven’t taken time to carefully study the zigzag of Pastor Tunde Bakare’s political grandstanding, they would be taken aback by his encomium on ex-governor Bola Tinubu who is pursuing the office president of Nigeria Bakare himself has been self-prophesying to occupy in 2023. The seeming inconsistency of Bakare is actually a long thread of consistency in self-promotion and positioning. I’ll explain. A few days ago, right from the pulpit of his Church, Bakare poured encomium on Tinubu, while viciously attacking those who raised issue with the dubious place-of-birth background of the former Lagos governor who has singlehandedly installed successive governors of the state since he completed his own two terms in 2007. Bakare went ahead to justify the pillage of the resources of Lagos state through so-called tax consultancy as “merely exploiting a loophole in the system”. Despite knowing how duplicitous he’s been, I shuddered at the unconscionable justification of banditry by a supposed Christian leader spewing such out right from the sacred pulpit of God. Even Satan would be a lot more subtle in his justification of such evil as the monumental pillage that has been going on in Lagos for 21 years. But those who were genuinely shocked by Bakare’s glorification of Tinubu in his sermon a few days ago were so because they hadn’t forgotten what the same Bakare said of the same lord of Bourdillon barely a year earlier. Read him: “The foolish person would no longer be called generous. You can say ‘so so and so’ has stolen all the money in the state, but he is a very generous man, you are foolish. “That’s why potholes are killing you, that’s what pools of water… you can’t drive now anymore because what is meant for road has been stolen since democracy began, they are living larger than life having jets here, having jets there, having house in Bourdillon, having house in this place, having house in that place, having house in every place at the expense of the public. “You will not go without vomiting what you have stolen. Wait, and see. Because a king will reign in righteousness and princes will rule with justice. Unfortunately, Nigeria(n) people, you celebrate your villains and crucify your heroes.” The villain Bakare rightly vilified in October 2019, he’s celebrating in December 2020. What changed, you would ask? Nothing has changed. The villain is still a villain. The looting of the commonwealth of Lagos hasn’t abated. What has changed is the political calculation of the man of vision who must occupy Aso Rock by all means in 2023. He’s lobbying seriously that the APC presidential ticket be handed to him on the platter of gold by the cattle chief he deputized for three elections back. Part of the calculation is for him, by cant and flattery, to neutralize the powerful opposition of the Bourdillon lion who is also desperate for the same ticket. The advise from the Cabal is for the pastor to go make peace with the lion so that the latter will not actively work against him from the home front. That’s the mandate. Simple. It is a measure of the low esteem that someone like Bakare has for the Nigerian public that he would think that people won’t see through shenanigans as this. But he should have known that Nigerians are not so dumb as to not see through his hypocrisy and duplicity. How possible is it not to know the Bakare that mobilized against subsidy removal in 2012 only to keep mute about its removal in 2020, and later actually later came out to justify it? Or that people can’t see the staggering hypocrisy of the Bakare that condemned Pastor Adeboye for building a N3 billion auditorium only for him to erect one for N12 billion that he pompously christened The Citadel? How about his many failed prophecies against then President-elect Olusegun Obasanjo that he swore God told him would never be sworn in as president in 1999? And then his many prophecies about a Nigerian saviour who would come from Adamawa in 2007? He described the fellow as “a gentle shoot” that would put Nigeria right. All that, of course, before he started prophesying about himself as the anointed of God for the Aso Rock seat. Now, even if God told a man what he would do with him and for him, just a little knowledge of the Bible that Bakare carries about should instruct that self-help thwarts God’s agenda. Despite all the prophetic misses of Bakare on the political trajectory of Nigeria, I still won’t commit the error of saying definitively that God couldn’t have spoken to him along the line he’s claiming. But one thing I’m sure of as a Christian is that God isn’t the author of confusion. God doesn’t approbate and reprobate at the same time. The supposed God’s servant who condemned someone just yesterday and is praising that same fellow the day after couldn’t have been driven by the Holy Spirit of God. The Spirit of God brooks not the kind of desperation that would make a Christian Minister sell out the Body of Christ as Bakare did in 2015 and 2019 and as he’s trying to do his Yoruba race for the prize of 2023. By their fruit you’ll know them, so says the Master Himself. My counsel to this my brother-in-Christ is that he should relax and let God work out His purpose in his life and for Nigeria. The disposition to self-promote, defile the pulpit of God for inordinate ambition, lick the arse of a failed man of power, and consistently play on public intelligence are neither edifying nor promotive of God’s purpose. All the ongoing schemings of the power mongers will soon be revealed to be exactly as the counsel of Ahitophel. Politics / Buruji Kashamu In Trouble Again As Police Begins Fresh Moves To Extradite Him by OgunNewsFact: 8:05am On Oct 31, 2016 |
Buruji Kasamu in fresh Trouble, as Police says he can't stop Arrest ...fresh moves for his extradition begins For the second time in the last one month, attempts by Ogun State PDP senator, representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Buruji Kasamu to stop police from inviting him has suffered another setback as the Inspector General of Police insisted before the court that he has a constitutional responsibility to arrest Buruji Kasamu. The Ogun East senator had approached the Federal High Court, Abuja asking it to stop the Inspector General of Police from arresting him on the plot to assassinate another lawmaker, Honourable Oladipupo Adebutu in Port Harcourt, claiming that it was a ploy to arrest and bundle him to United States of America to face criminal charges on drug related offences for which he had been allegedly declared wanted. The police has invited Kasamu severally to come and answer charges bothering on attempts to assassinate a fellow lawmaker, and invitation which the senator had turned down repeatedly. Kasamu himself had written petitions to the police, and even when he was invited to come and substantiate claims he made in his petitions he has been avoiding going to the offices of the security agencies which has become a source of surprise to all operatives in the various security agencies. According to a close security source, "Buruji Kasamu believes he has all the security agencies and some top officers under his control. He has so much confidence in his contacts within the police force and other security agencies and makes open boasts about this anytime opportunities present itself. So, instead of going to police stations or other offices, he summons some officers to his own house to come and take his statements, which most times are often written for him by some of the officers" "In fact, some officers have had to go and wait for him sometime ago at the interchange around midnight to go and collect his written statement which they already prepared and just had to get his signature and be rewarded." With the heat of the latest petition, the Ogun Senator has resorted to the court hoping to procure some court orders to stop his appearance before the police. But the IGP it was gathered, told the court that the order being sought by Kasamu was like trying to hold the hand of police and preventing it from carrying out its constitutional duties and responsibilities to secure the lives of citizens, even if it takes arresting Buruji Kasamu. The matter has however been adjourned to 7th November, 2016. Meanwhile, in a related matter, Justice Gabriel Kolawole of the Federal High Court, Abuja has adjourned hearing on another matter involving the embattled senator to 15th of December, 2016. The Attorney General of the Federation ( AGF) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) had filed fresh application before the court to join issues with Senator Buruji Kashamu on a a pending extradiction case.

Politics / Judges’ Bombshell: Fear Grips Buhari’s Men by OgunNewsFact: 8:58am On Oct 23, 2016 |
Palpable fear has gripped some prominent members of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet, following rumours that the presidency might off-load them because of the weighty allegations leveled against some of them by two Supreme Court judges. The apprehension came just as prominent Nigerians, including Constitutional lawyer, Ebun Adegboruwa; factional leader of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Goddy Uwazuruike, and a former Secretary to the Benue State Government, Prof. Saint Gbilekaa, called on President Buhari to remove the Minister of Transport, Chief Rotimi Amaechi, and his Science and Technology Counterpart, Dr. Ogbonaya Onu, to enable them defend the weighty allegations leveled against them. The fear was reinforced when it was observed last week that the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, who was allegedly named in a N500million bribe over the fine imposed on the mobile telecommunication company, MTN, had been out of office for over two weeks. Presidency sources said a number of the ministers are jittery over the allegations and that one cannot rule out the possibility of a cabinet shakeup soon to remove some ministers who are said to have heavy baggage. A key government spokesman, who chose not to be named, said he could not confirm that, but that Kyari was on annual leave and would resume duties tomorrow. Since the arrest of over seven judges by the Department of State Security (DSS), over allegations of corruption in the past three weeks, some of the judges have complained of victimization, witch-hunt and that evidence were planted in their apartment. While Justice Sylvester Ngwuta of the Supreme Court alleged that Hon. Rotimi Amaechi begged him to pervert justice by canceling the governorship election in Ekiti State and order fresh election to favour his friend, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, Justice Inyang Okoro alleged that Amaechi also attempted to bribe him to influence the elections in Rivers, Abia and Akwa Ibom states. Similarly, Justice Ngwuta alleged that Dr. Onu invited him to his house and demanded that he influenced the outcome of the Governorship Election Appeal for Ebonyi State in favour of the Labour Party candidate in the state who had reportedly agreed to decamp to the All Progressives Congress Whereas both Amaechi and Onu have denied the allegations, with the former describing it as “pure fiction, a dubious diversionary tale concocted to muddle the very serious issues of his (Ngwuta’s) arrest and investigations by the DSS,” President Buhari has been advised to, as a matter of urgency, drop those ministers and submit them to investigation. Constitutional lawyer, Ebun Adegboruwa, in an interview said the current development was a fallout of the belief that even while in the opposition, the APC manipulated the judiciary to secure victory in many states, especially in the South. “Governors Rauf Aregbesola, Adams Oshiomhole and Kayode Fayemi were imposed on Osun, Edo and Ekiti states respectively by the courts, and not through the ballots,” he said. He noted that the manipulation by the APC, which was a beautiful bride of the judiciary over the years, have now boomeranged because the party could no longer have its way, adding that it only shows the APC as “an agglomeration of propagandists and political opportunists who took Nigerians for granted and took advantage of PDP’s poor performance to hoodwink Nigerians to vote for them” "I believe that the judges could not have cooked up the allegations against Amaechi and Onu, especially since the former is gradually becoming the Mr. Fix it of this administration. My submission, therefore, is that if the indicted judges are to step aside, the indicted ministers should also step aside,” he said. He stated that the current development was akin to the manner the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and his Deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, were intimidated and charged to court for alleged forgery until they stood their grounds and the Federal Government beat a retreat by withdrawing the charges against them. While he said corrupt judges have no business in the temple of justice, Adegboruwa added that the constitutionally approved organ, “the NJC, should be allowed to remove them, not the APC, not the DSS and definitely not Amaechi.” Uwazuruike in an interview with Sunday Telegraph, said the allegations against the ministers are weighty and the said ministers “should step aside for thorough investigation,” in order not to make a mockery of the anti-corruption war and the ‘Change Begins with Me’ programme. “If you look at the Justice Ngwuta’s allegation, he was very pointed, telling the Chief Justice of the Federation: ‘My Lord, may I recall one morning when I pleaded not to be on the Panel of Rivers Governorship Appeal? My Lord, you said I was already on the panel and asked me why I made that request to be excluded. When I explained what transpired the previous night, Your Lordship said Amaechi had also attempted to influence other justices,’ that means that the CJN was aware of the issue right from the beginning. “Amaechi and the Chief of Staff to the President, who has been named in one or two cases of corruption, should be asked to step aside and thorough investigations carried out on this matter,” Uwazuruike said. He added, “This battle is against the independence of the judiciary. Since 1999, there had been attempts to deal with the judiciary. The then President Olusegun Obasanjo tried it and you remember that there was a time the Supreme Court was burgled. That is the point I am making.” Gbilekaa said the President needs to show greater seriousness with the war on corruption by ensuring that prominent members of the APC accused of corruption are probed. “He should also probe other non-PDP members. People have mentioned Rotimi Amaechi, his Minister of Transportation; Babatunde Fashola, the Minister of Works and Housing and several other names. Of course, people who say the Buhari’s anti-corruption war is lopsided are quite right; we are not blind; we have eyes and we are seeing. So, as Nigerians, we know what is happening, it is one sided. Corruption should not be a party alphabet,” he said. New Telegraph

Politics / Buhari Can't Force Leadership Change And Cow Legislators- Senate by OgunNewsFact: 7:27am On Jun 30, 2016 |
Senate Disagrees With SGF, Says Petitioner Never Mentioned Saraki,Ekwerenadu In Their Report The Nigerian Senate through the Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Publicity, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi has again reacted to the comment made by the Secretary-General of the Federation, Babachir Lawal over the alleged Senate forgery case. Babachir Lawal maintains that the Senate as an institution was not on trial but its leaders’ – Bukola Saraki and Ike Ekweremadu. The statement credited to the SGF read: ‘’….a case of forgery is usually preferred against individuals. This not different as was the case with a former speaker of the House of Representatives, who was accused of certificate forgery what he did was to resign honourably and the matter didn’t go to court’ Responding to the new twist, the Senate disagrees with him on this position and maintained their earlier stand that it is the Senate that is the target of the present attempt to intimidate the legislature to force a leadership change in the Senate. ‘’Mr. Babachir Lawal should tell us how reasonable it is to conclude that when the President of Nigeria and the Vice President are being jointly tried in a suit whose outcome can remove them from office, it is not the Buhari Government that is being targeted. It is also imperative to clearly state that contrary to the claim by the SGF, neither the Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki nor Senator Ike Ekweremadu were mentioned by the petitioners, the statements by those interviewed by the police or even the police report’’ The Statement read. The Senate further argues that the case of the former House of Rep speaker’s result forgery as cited by the SGF was not applicable in this regard: ‘’Let us refreshen Mr. Lawal’s memory about the facts of the 1999 case. It is obvious that the Senate President and his deputy are not being accused of certificate forgery as it happened in ex-Speaker Salisu Buhari’s case. Therefore, nobody should compare an apple with orange. Also, neither Saraki nor Ekweremadu is below the age requirement for their present position as it was alleged in the Buhari case. Attempts to make the two situations look similar is to present all Nigerians as having no sense of history. We also know that nobody can be accused of forging his own signature. The executive is in no position to determine what is the correct Standing Orders of the Senate. The Senate President and his Deputy were as at the morning of the June 9, 2015 inauguration of the Senate mere Senators-elect and could therefore not have been in a position to influence any alteration in the rule book. The Senate as an institution, and indeed the National Assembly, has spoken about their understanding of the present assault on their independence by the executive’. We maintain that this trial is a design by the Executive to criminalize the internal affairs of the Senate to create a distraction for the leadership of the Senate, force a leadership change and cow the legislators. It said. Finally, the Senate advised those behind the plot to remove its leadership to channel their energy on more important things like finding tangible solutions to the multi-various socio-economic problems bedeviling the country. They urged the judiciary to credibly perform its duties and give independent verdict on the case. |

Politics / Tinubu Unleashed Media Against Buhari, Says I'm In Charge! by OgunNewsFact: 10:21am On Jun 28, 2016 |
Tinubu unleashed media against Buhari, says I'm in charge, you can't bite the fingers that fed you Tinubu, it was gathered, had rallied his media, including major Nigerian news outlets, print, electronic, and social media to fight down the ex-general for entirely scorning his interests, and breaching major promises made during the electioneering campaign. Several news headlines exposing the hidden side of the Buhari’s regime have been rocking the news media. For instance, last week’s story that Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Tukur Buratai, and his two wives owned a Dubai property paid for in one transaction did not fall from the sky. Thus, influx of very revealing stories about the regime has been attributed to a final crash of long but complicated partnership between a supposedly, leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu and President Muhammadu Buhari. Their political love affair has taken a new turn, leaving the President and his cronies dazed with multiple media attacks, including leakages of sensitive documents incriminating key members of the administration. Key bloggers loyal to Tinubu have already taken credit for the attacks, warning that “the worst is yet to come.” Tinubu, it was gathered, had rallied his media, including major Nigerian news outlets, print, electronic, and social media to fight down the ex-general for entirely scorning his interests, and breaching major promises made during the electioneering campaign. The regime on its own part, has snubbed Tinubu’s advances and rebranded into action, its propaganda machine facilitated by Femi Adesina, Buhari’s Special Adviser (Media and Publicity). “The blogs are hot; you may checkout what is happening right now, and more is coming,” a Blogger who identified himself as “Internet James Bond” told our newsroom. In the past two weeks, Buhari’s regime has been under pressure over trending news pieces regarding himself, family, and key members of his administration. “The breaking news recently revealing how President Muhammadu Buhari, and his wife Aisha owns a sprawling Asokoro lakeside mansion in Abuja was not coincidental,” claimed a source associated with Tinubu’s camp. “We knew that Aisha and Buhari own this hidden property; we had this information even before the election, and we knew why all of a sudden the story is all over the media. Just don’t ask me, because I won’t say more than this… But tell them that more is coming” Similar stories also made it to the newsstand, and swamped the social media with threads of commentaries. For instance, one Air Commodore Umar Muhammed (rtd), a top appointee of President Muhammadu Buhari, a member of the Presidential Investigative Committee on Arms Procurement made the headlines as he was arrested by the Department of State Service (DSS) over fraudulent arms procurement. In most humiliating context, Buhar’s regime were scorned when $1.5 million cash, about 18 luxury cars including Rolls Royce, Ferrari, Buggatti and many others were recovered after a search of Muhammed’s residence. Femi Adesina’s team defending Buhari and the regime disgracefully ran out of steam with more outrageous headiness revealing the regime’s process deception and communication hoax. Shortly before President Buhari left the country early June for medical emergency, Adesina assigned to shield information from the public had swayed the national media with assurance that the President was in good health. A few hours later, the news of Buhari’s worsening health broke out, leaving the regime all embarrassed and confused about their own secrets. To cover-up his deceit, Adesina quickly issued a release that President Buhari will leave for London Monday for a ten-day break, to attend to his health issues. International Guardian reliably gathered that other opposition factions in the APC might also be instrumental to exposing the regime’s rather selective approach in managing the nation’s resources. According to a source, “Buhari cannot bite the finger that fed him. Tinubu is still in control, and our people would find out sooner or later.” Issues between Buhari and Tinubu started earlier in the 2014 Presidential Campaign, when the APC leaders secretly negotiated several tradeoffs concerning the post-election sharing of “political profits.” Tinubu purportedly negotiated with Buhari (then APC Presidential candidate) for allocation of oil wells in the Niger Delta and consideration of his picks in some ministerial positions. This was to compensate for Tinubu’s support and huge financial commitment to the party as well as Buhari’s candidacy. Since the regime’s inauguration however, Tinubu’s camp has been angered by Buhari’s failure to live up the arrangements. Tinubu’s last major frustration about Buhari’s regime was expressed in his ten-paragraph statement, titled: “kachikwu needs to know that respect and good performance will do what magic cannot.” Emmanuel Kachikwu is the Minister of State, Petroleum Resources and Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation. In part, Tinubu wrote, “With that I do reserve the right and the duty as a Nigerian to voice my opinion when I believe a member of this government has strayed from the progressive calling required of this administration.” A snub of this letter by the administration, further angered Tinubu’s camp who are now leading the media war. “I don’t speak for Tinubu, but I can authoritatively tell you that Buhari is finished,” said an Abuja-based blogger who opted for anonymity. http://www.guardiannewsusa.com/apc-crisis-latest-tinubu-unleashed-bloggers-buhari/ |
Politics / Democracy Not Military Rule, Don't Prioritize Rule Of Man Over Rule Of Law by OgunNewsFact: 7:08am On Jun 28, 2016 |
Democracy not military rule, don't subvert democracy prioritizing rule of man over rule of law- Ekweremadu PRESS STATEMENT BY SEN. Ike Ekweremadu DEMOCRACY ON TRIAL ABUJA- I presented myself to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court today as an ordinary citizen of this great nation to plead NOT GUILTY to charges I did not and could not have committed. It is deeply troubling to note that people in high places who swore to uphold the law have dwindled into purveyors of falsehood and rumours who seek to smear and tarnish the reputation of law abiding and responsible citizens as well as cripple the hallowed institutions of democracy. It is all the more disheartening that people who should know better use the colour of their office to pursue private vendetta against people they disagree with. This grotesque display of vindictiveness, arrogance, and mindless targeting of innocent citizens should find no sanctuary in our democracy. Using the machinery of justice to create disorder is a dangerous and invidious scheme that ultimately will lead Nigeria down the road to perdition. It is Senator Bukola Saraki and Senator Ike Ekweremadu today, who knows whose turn it will be next? I am a law-abiding citizen and believe in the rule of law and all the rights and privileges it advertises. But, even at that, it is only in my place not to commit crime, but way out of my reach not to be accused of one, especially when instruments of power become apparatuses for oppression of the innocent and voices of opposition. Indeed, I, in no way or fashion, claim to be above the law, just that I believe that the law should not be used as an instrument to bludgeon innocent citizens into submitting to the untamed wishes and caprices of witch-hunters. However, I put my trust in God, the court, and the overwhelming solidarity of the good people of Nigeria. When the dust settles, Nigerians will see clearly that this charge is nothing but meretricious thrash. Time, occasions, and provocations like this will teach their own lessons. I hope that one chief lesson will be that democracy differs markedly from military rule and that public officer should never subvert the foundations of democracy by prioritizing the rule of man over the rule of law. Let us make no mistake about this: it is not Senator Ike Ekweremadu or Senator Bukola Saraki or the other accused persons that are on trial; rather the hallowed democratic principles of separation of powers, rule of law, the legislature, and indeed democracy itself are on a ridiculous trial. Mere anarchy is unleashed upon the land, but our courage must not fall apart. No condition is permanent and nothing lasts forever. For me, I find great comfort in the immortal words of late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe who said that history will vindicate the just and the wicked will not go unpunished. Politics / We Are Innocent! Political Persecution Not In The Interest Of The Nation-saraki by OgunNewsFact: 5:15pm On Jun 27, 2016 |
Statement on Commencement of Trial at FCT High Court Abuja, Nigeria,---Today we the leaders of the Nigerian Senate reiterate our innocence against the charges filed by the Attorney General of the Federal Government of Nigeria at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court on the allegations of forgery of the Senate Standing Rules document. In our view, the charges filed by the Attorney General represent a violation of the principle of the Separation of Powers between the Executive Branch and the Legislative Branch as enshrined in our Constitution. Furthermore, it is farcical to allege that a criminal act occurred during Senate procedural actions and the mere suggestion demonstrates a desperate overreach by the office of the Attorney General. These trumped up charges is only another phase in the relentless persecution of the leadership of the Senate This misguided action by the Attorney General begs the question, how does this promote the public interest and benefit the nation? At a time when the whole of government should be working together to meet Nigeria’s many challenges, we are once again distracted by the Executive Branch’s inability to move beyond a leadership election among Senate peers. It was not an election of Senate peers and Executive Branch participants. Over the past year the Senate has worked to foster good relations with the Executive Branch. It is in all of our collective interests to put aside divisions and get on with the nation’s business. We risk alienating and losing the support of the very people who have entrusted their national leaders to seek new and creative ways to promote a secure and prosperous Nigeria. As leaders and patriots, it is time to rise above partisanship and to move forward together. However, what has become clear is that there is now a government within the government of President Buhari who have seized the apparatus of Executive powers to pursue their nefarious agenda. This latest onslaught on the Legislature represents a clear and present danger to the democracy Nigerians fought hard to win and preserve. The suit filed on behalf of the Federal government suggests that perhaps some forces in the Federal Republic have not fully embraced the fact that the Senate’s rules and procedures govern how the legislative body adjudicates and resolves its own disputes. Let it be abundantly clear, both as a citizen and as a foremost Legislator, I will continue to rise above all the persecution and distraction that have been visited on me. In the words of Martin Luther King Junior, “the ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at a time of challenge and controversy”. I will remain true and committed to the responsibilities that my citizenship and my office impose on me. Without doubt, the highest of those responsibilities is the steadfast refusal to surrender to the subversion of our democracy and the desecration of the Senate. This is a cross I am prepared to carry. If yielding to the nefarious agenda of a few individuals who are bent in undermining our democracy and destabilising the Federal government to satisfy their selfish interests is the alternative to losing my personal freedom, let the doors of jails be thrown open and I shall be a happy guest. Signed Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, CON President, Senate of the Federal Republic |

BREAKING: Buhari Presidency Moves To Arrest CAN President, Ayo Oritsejafor By Felix Ojong - Jun 14, 2016 With less than 48 hours to the election in the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), indications emerged on Monday, June 13, 2016 night that the Presidency was planning to arrest it’s incumbent president, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor and some other key officials of the association during its National Executive Council (NEC). Others planned to be arrested include general secretary of CAN, Rev. Musa Asake and its director of national issues, Elder Sunday Oibe on trumped up charges by government forces who were sympathetic to certain aggrieved parties in the contest. But despite the threats, the two-day meeting where the election would be conducted would still take place and the election will hold. Already tension was mounting in CAN last night as plain-clothed security officers were said to be hunting some of the CAN leaders. Also, delegates from the five different blocs of CAN had started arriving Abuja for the scheduled NEC meeting which will determine the next direction of the umbrella body of Christians. According to the schedule, the two days (Tuesday and Wednesday) have been set aside to do, majorly, two things: the election of the next CAN president and the ratification of the new CAN constitution which had been completed by a committee set up by the National Advisory Council of CAN about two years ago. Sources revealed last night that the plain-clothes security operatives were in possession of SMS and WhatsApp messages threatening to eliminate some of the CAN leaders. But some key leaders in CAN were wondering why the police would be allowed to be used to arrest individuals in a purely spiritual exercise as the election of a CAN President. Asake cried out last night that plans have reached advanced stage to conduct the election. According to him, contrary to insinuations, CAN Secretariat has not been served any court summons that some people have gone to court to obtained an exparte order suspending the election. “There are rumours all over the place but there are papers on your table”‘ he stated. Asake said the next CAN President will be elected by a total of 101 voters: every bloc brings 10 delegates, all the state chairmen plus the Federal Capital (FCT) making 37, all the six zonal leaders, five national directors, the president, Vice President, the General Secretary and the Treasurer. “We are on target and we are praying that everything will go as planned because this is an issue of Christians and we hope to finish the entire exercise without any rancour,” he said.
