4 XL is a better performer but has received its last major update
4 XL has better display
4 XL was 2019 flagship
4a 5g is 2020 midranger
Depending on what you're looking for, if you don't mind the forehead, absence of ultra wide and end of major updates then go for 4 XL
4a 5g is currently not receiving 5g in Nigeria so that's immaterial.

Got a mint pixel 4a 5g from the OP yesterday,
