PoliticsAPGA Chieftains, 3000 Supporters Defect To PDP In Abia, Blast Oye by OILFLASHY1(op): 2:23pm On Jun 12, 2019
The All Progressives Grand Alliance(APGA), House of Assembly candidate for Umuahia North constituency of Abia state in the last election, Chief Chukwuemeka Utah, and that of Umuahia central state constituency, Mr. Mba Ndubuisi, have defected to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in the state.

The candidates, who were spotted on Monday at the inauguration of the 7th Abia state House of Assembly, wore caps bearing the picture of the new speaker of the State Assembly and a chieftain of the PDP, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji.

When contacted on Wednesday, one of the APGA defectors, Utah explained that he dumped APGA due to the factional crisis that had already threatened the unity of the party in the state and the country at large.

He decried the manner, the national and Abia leadership of the All Progressives Grand Alliance(APGA) manhandled the party’s 2018 primaries, asserting that the incident had caused many leaders to dump the party(APGA) for another political party.

Utah claimed that the illegalities and corrupt practices perpetrated under Oye during the APGA primaries had demarketed the party.

The Ohuhu Umuahia-born politician disclosed that he(Utah) defected to the ruling PDP in the state with three thousand of APGA members and supporters.

Utah said, “I have left APGA, because of the myriads of problems that have divided the party and its structures in Abia. You are aware of what transpired in APGA prior to the 2019 general elections. The national leadership of the party failed to conduct transparent primaries.
“Oye-led NWC milked many of the APGA aspirants, which led the party having two candidates jostling for the same constituency seat in Abia particularly. Majority of APGA leaders and stakeholders had demanded that the national chairman should step aside in order for them to reposition the party for ahead of future elections.

PoliticsImo West: INEC Reveals Next Move Against Okorocha by OILFLASHY1(op): 7:06am On Jun 12, 2019
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it will appeal the judgment directing it to issue a Certificate of Return to former Governor of Imo, Rochas Okorocha.

Okorocha received his certificate of return as winner of Imo West Senatorial District election held Feb. 23.

INEC made the disclosure in a statement issued by Mr. Festus Okoye, National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee of INEC on Tuesday in Abuja.

He said the commission issued the certificate to Okorocha in compliance with an Abuja Federal High Court that directed it to do so.

Okoye said the issuance of the certificate to Okorocha once again demonstrated its commitment to obeying court judgment, including those it might have reservations.

He said that the decision was reached on Tuesday after the commission met and considered 14 memoranda involving judgments and orders in pre-election matters relating to the issuance of certificates and or withdrawal of certificates already issued in pre-election matters.

“Amongst the memoranda considered, is the one concerning the judgment on the Imo West Senatorial district by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

“The Commission decided to comply with the court judgment by issuing a certificate of return to the plaintiff, Rochas Okorocha in compliance with the judgment and Orders of Hon. Justice Okon Abang.

“It will also appeal against the said judgment.”

Okoye said that in arriving at the decision, the commission also took into consideration, the orders issued by two High Courts in Owerri Judicial Division.

He said the orders were issued in suits No. HOW/ 596/2019 issued on May 23, 2019 and another dated the June 11, 2019 issued in suit No. HOW/663/2019 restraining the commission from issuing certificate of return in respect of the said senatorial district.

The national commissioner said that INEC noted that both were interim orders issued ex parte and not final orders of court.

Okoye said that in obeying the judgment, the commission was demonstrating, once again, its longstanding commitment of complying with all orders of court, including those with which it may have reservations.

“However, the commission must put on record its very profound concerns about the likely consequences of this judgment for our electoral process in particular and our democracy in general.

“Obviously, persons who seek elective offices can perceive in this judgment an irrelevance of due process and acting within the law.

PoliticsBuhari Vs Atiku:human Rights Watch Releases Damning Report On Nigeria’s Election by OILFLASHY1(op): 11:32am On Jun 10, 2019
The Nigerian elections in 2019 that brought President Muhammadu Buhari back into office for a second term were marred by political violence, some of it by soldiers and police officers, Human Rights Watch (HRW) said on Monday.

Buhari defeated Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the keenly-contested poll.

HRW called on Buhari to take concrete steps to address the widespread political violence and ensure accountability for human rights abuses by soldiers and police as he begins his second term.

The report on the election released on the HRW website on Monday noted that the election period included persistent attacks by factions of Boko Haram terrorist group in the northeast; increased communal violence between nomadic herdsmen and farmers spreading southward from north-central states; and a dramatic uptick in banditry, kidnapping, and killings in the northwestern states of Kaduna, Katsina, and Zamfara. It maintained that security forces have failed to respond effectively to threats to people’s lives and security.

Human Rights Watch said it interviewed 32 people; including voters, journalists, election observers, activists, and Independent National Electoral Commission officials in Rivers and Kano states, and documented 11 deaths specifically related to violent interference in the election process during the February 23 presidential election and subsequent state elections.

It added: “The national and state elections in February, March, and April 2019 contributed to the general insecurity across the country. The politically related violence reported in many states was in contrast to the relatively peaceful 2015 elections that brought Buhari into his first term in office. According to a report by SBM Intelligence, which monitors sociopolitical and economic developments in Nigeria, 626 people were killed during the 2019 election cycle, starting with campaigns in 2018.

“Kano state, in northwestern Nigeria, has the highest number of registered voters in the country. Rivers state, in the Niger Delta, receives the largest share of crude-oil-based national revenue, representing significant electoral value to any political party. The history of elections in both states is replete with violence by state security agencies and criminal elements.

“Human Rights Watch focused its research on both states in view of projections and reports of violence during the 2019 elections. Despite police claims of increased security measures to ensure peaceful voting, there seems to have been little or no police response to reports of threats and acts of violence by hired political thugs and soldiers against voters and election officials, Human Rights Watch found.

“Voters and election officials said that policemen either fled or stood idly by, fueling allegations of complicity, as perpetrators stole election materials, disrupted voting, and harassed voters. Witnesses said that the police also shot live rounds of ammunition and used teargas to disperse people protesting voting disruptions.

“Witnesses said that after a soldier was killed in the town of Abonnema, in Rivers state, on election day, soldiers shot at residents, killing an unknown number of people. They also carried out sweeping arrests and arbitrarily detained several people.”

“The soldiers were on a rampage, shooting at anyone around,” said a 37-year-old man who witnessed the episode. “As I made my way to flee, I saw people dive into the river, many with gunshot wounds. The next day I saw three dead bodies riddled with bullets floating in the water… I heard many more bodies were later recovered from that river.”

HRW noted that “Banditry and the recurring cycles of deadly violence between herdsmen and farmers appear to have taken the lives of thousands. According to civil society reports, over 3,641 people have died from deadly clashes between herdsmen and farmers since 2015 and at least 262 people have been killed by bandits since the beginning of 2019 in Zamfara State alone. The government deployed 1,000 military troops to the state in response, but few of those responsible for the violence have been arrested or held to account.

“The northeast conflict with Boko Haram and its splinter groups also remains one of Buhari’s pressing challenges. Although Boko Haram’s territorial control has shrunk to small pockets of villages around Lake Chad as a result of sustained government military action since 2015, the group continues to carry out attacks against civilian and military targets in the region and in neighboring Niger, Cameroon, and Chad.

PoliticsI’ve Passed That Level, Nobody Can Kidnap Me Again – Gov. Akeredolu Boasts by OILFLASHY1(op): 8:28am On Jun 10, 2019
Ondo State Governor, Oluwatotimi Akeredolu, on Sunday evening boasted that with his status, he can no longer be kidnapped; stressing that only those with security convoys are safe from the menace of kidnappers.

Akeredolu, who was speaking during a live TV/Radio programme in the state tagged “Speak With Mr. Governor” revealed that sometimes his convey is being confronted by suspected kidnappers on Akure-Ilesa-Ibadan highway.

According to him, on those occasions the kidnappers always run into the bush when his security men opened fire.

“I’ve encountered then once or twice as governor.

“My convoy was almost attacked but my security people shot into the air to scare them (kidnappers) to the bush. That’s the advantage we have as governors. It is a serious problem on Akure-Ibadan road.

“I remember, I had to tell my people (convoy) to move. Where ever they are, we confronted them. There’s no need to run away.

“Even at a time of such incidence, my orderly was shaking.

“Even if I walk, they can’t kidnap me. I have passed that stage. They dare not try it.

“It is real that lives of travellers are not safe on the road. On a serious note, kidnapping is not limited to just poor people, but for us with convoys we move easily.

The governor added that, “Armed robbery is fading away and it’s being replaced by kidnapping. It now criminals new fashion trend.”

He used the opportunity of the meeting which was the first after the general elections, to welcome newly elected governors into the forum.

Bagudu asked all party members in the National Assembly to vote for the two leaders, saying the forum was solidly behind the decision of the party.

PoliticsBandits’ Attack: Gov. Tambuwal Attends Burial Of 25 Persons In Sokoto by OILFLASHY1(op): 10:13pm On Jun 09, 2019
Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State on Sunday attended the funeral of 25 persons killed by bandits in a fresh attack which occurred on Saturday in three communities in Rabah local government area of the state.

GOVERNMENT OF IMO STATE
PRESS RELEASE

MY TENANCY IN GOVERNMENT HOUSE IS OVER – GOVERNOR ROCHAS OKOROCHA.
https://thickmatch.com/tenancy-government-house-rochas-bows-constitution/

Governor Rochas Okorocha has said that his tenancy in Imo State Government House where he has lived in the past eight years as governor has expired and also his governorship, stating that whatever has a beginning must have an end.

The governor also stated that he enjoyed the wonderful support of Imo people as their governor for eight years adding that some of the elite who had certain reservations about his administrations must have had their reasons, adding that he has done very well as the governor of the State for eight years.

The governor spoke at an event to mark his Pull-out from the Government House on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 stating that many Governors had come before him and many will come after him too.

His words “To God alone be the glory for a great day like this. The day ordained by him alone to mark the end of a journey. Today, nature has permitted that we must shut down in line with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This would be my last speech as Governor of Imo State, speaking from the Government House of Imo State. In a few minutes from now, these doors at the back will be shut behind me, and that would mark the end of my Certificate of Occupancy of this building”.

He stated “I have often said to people that I’m but a tenant who has come on a Rescue Mission, knowing that one day, my tenancy would be over. Let me inform all of you Imolites that my tenancy is over. And under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I cannot stay any day longer than tomorrow (Wednesday). This has gone a long way to confirm that for every journey that has a beginning, would have an end, and for every sunrise, there must be a sunset. This is what life has bestowed on all of us and I’m here to just say one thing to all of you – to say THANK YOU”.

He continued “I say thank you because many governors have been here before me and many will come after me. But I must dire say that I have gotten such an unusual support from the people of Imo that has never been recorded in history. I’m grateful, thank you once more. But, it’s important that I look back 8 years ago and my journey in Imo State. For those of you who have lived here for the past 8 years, will join me quickly in this my analysis”.

He remarked “I came to Imo State in 2011 as your Governor, being elected by you all. And I promised one thing that I will make Imo better, and I declared Imo must be better. And I said to all of you that I’m coming on a rescue mission and rescue mission connotes that I would do things not the proper way of doing things, in other words, I would do everything I can to fix things right because I saw what is called an emergency situation in infrastructural development, education and the rest of them,

“This has explained perhaps why most people do not understand my style, because they believe that I brake protocols. I never broke any protocol, I simply bend the protocols to get me on my way to fix things. Some say that I broke the law, but there’s no known law in Nigeria that I have broken. What I do is to smartly bend it, when its about to brake I simply leave it to get the job done. I have not followed the routine culture of bureaucratic bottlenecks which have kept our State and nation in bondage,

“I do things the other way and I get results in all I did. But one thing is pivotal to the governance of Imo State. And its that I came with a vision and my mission was quite clear and I came with an added passion to deliver my vision”.

“Today, I’m proud to announce to you looking 8 years down the lane that Imo is indeed better than I met it in all ramifications. I recall vividly in 2011, when darkness ravaged our City Owerri and at about 7 O’clock nobody would make a move out of the fear of being kidnapped. Today, Imo is a secured State,

“I present to you while I leave, a secured Imo State. I recall those days when children could not go to schools for lack of School fees, both in Primary, Secondary and University, and couldn’t afford to buy their books, 8 years later, we are proud to announce that education is free for the past 8 years and no child pays for school fees or worry about how to go to school. I present to you a free education State as I walk out of this Government House,

“Most of you may know that our Urban Renewal has changed the face of Owerri and our City is looking better than it has never been and Owerri is the fastest growing City in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We are proud to say so. 8 years down, you will agree with me that we have built so many infrastructure that have not been recorded in the history of Imo State. I accept criticisms and many might criticize me, but one thing they can’t take away from me is that I came, I saw and I conquered,

“But my speech this evening is not to enumerate my achievements, but to communicate to you the Imo State that I’m about to handover and the challenges because as my brothers and Sisters, we have a great state called Imo where our people are highly industrious and willing to work. But we have one challenge, and the challenge is that our elites do not help matters whenever it comes to the issue of progress in this land.

“Of course today, Power has gone back to the elites from the masses. The masses are no longer in power and you can judge when the masses are in power and when the elites are in power in a few months to come. Therefore, I would urge all of you to remain prayerful. Support any government that is called a government in power and support them to do their best. But never use me to judge any government because you might be making the biggest mistake,

“I’ve raised the bar and the bar is high, and the shoes are quite big. Again to most people who have been so disillusioned, people who felt they have no reason to forge ahead, let me announce to you that I came here with good intention, and I’m leaving here with the best of intention.
Let me announce to my political enemies, they should stop because they have no justifiable reason to fight me. Rather, if they think they can fight me, let them demonstrate it in the pace of work. But let me announce again and again, I’m a lover of peace, but as I work out of this Government House, let none fight me and I won’t fight anyone. Governorship is a shield that covers every personality that is in office, but when you remove this shield or this mask off my face, you will see the real Rochas”.

SportsArsenal Fans Stopped By Police In Baku For Wearing Mkhitaryan Shirt(video) by OILFLASHY1(op): 6:28pm On May 28, 2019
A clip of two Arsenal fans being stopped by Azerbaijan police for wearing a Henrikh Mkhitaryan shirt in Baku has emerged online.
Last week it was confirmed that Mkhitaryan would not be part of the Gunners' travelling squad for the Europa League final against Chelsea.

Armenians are not allowed to enter Azerbaijan because of the long-running conflict between the two countries, who have had no relations since the Nagorno-Karabakh war in 1994.

Though they explored different options, after speaking with the player and his family, Arsenal decided against including him in their squad over fears for his safety

SportsIwobi: Arsenal Want To Win UEL For Mkhitaryan by OILFLASHY1(op): 5:46pm On May 28, 2019
The Armenian will not play any part when the Gunners battle for the trophy, owing to political reasons

Mkhitaryan has pulled out of the encounter as a result of his country’s dispute with the host nation of the final, Azerbaijan.

Iwobi says the Armenian midfielder is unhappy to miss the game, but he has vowed that the Gunners will try their best in the game to clinch the trophy.

“He has contributed a lot to help us get to where we are, he is very upset, he has taken a decision, and he cannot go [for the final],” Iwobi told the Guardian.

“We’re going to fight and hopefully win the trophy, not just for us but for him.”
Winning the Europa League trophy will guarantee Arsenal – who finished the Premier League in the fifth place – a spot in the Champions League next season.
