PoliticsOsun: What Supreme Court Should Have Done – Sagay Reacts To Oyetola’s Victory by OILFLASHY1(op): 3:01pm On Jul 08, 2019
Itse Sagay, Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), has reacted to the Supreme Court ruling on Osun State governorship election.

The court had affirmed the victory of Governor Gboyega Oyetola o f the All Progressives Congress (APC) over candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Ademola Adeleke.

Sagay told National Dailies that though the apex court was right to have nullified the verdict of the tribunal, it should have made an affirmative pronouncement if INEC was right to have declared the poll inconclusive and subsequently held supplementary poll.

“The lesson should be drawn home to everybody that all members of the tribunal or the court should be present before they can take part in a judgment,” he said.

“When a judge has conducted a case 90 percent, the judge that takes his place is not allowed to use the records, he has to start all over again. That is the point the Supreme Court is making here, and I think I support the decision.

“If there was violence or something was wrong and you are unable to vote, I don’t know why it is something wrong in being allowed, on another day, to vote… I think the Supreme Court should have just completed that so that the issue would not arise again.

“Ballot boxes have been carried away. Even if you voted, your result cannot count and then INEC decides according to its guidelines to repeat election in such a place, what is wrong with that?

“I think the Supreme Court should have pronounced on that so that you don’t have a situation where somebody would pre-judge the outcome of election by creating confusion in some areas where he is weak and then insisting that those people there should not have an opportunity to vote and then he wins by only allowing election in areas where he is strong; that is the whole idea of supplementary election so that everybody can have an opportunity.

“I think the Supreme Court should have made a pronouncement on that; whether it is right or wrong.”

PoliticsBayelsa Governorship: ‘we’ll Stop APC Returnees From Clinching PDP Ticket’ by OILFLASHY1(op): 10:56am On Jul 08, 2019
Those returning to the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State from the All Progressives Congress (APC) should forget about the PDP ticket in the next governorship election billed for November 16.

Their Secretary-General James Oputin said in a statement in Yenagoa that any move by the leadership of the PDP to hand over the party to politicians and aspirants, “who turned their back on the party during critical moments,” would spell doom for it.

Oputin urged the PDP national leadership to thread with caution “on the sensitive issue of electing a candidate for the gubernatorial contest in the state” in order not to endanger its chances of retaining political power.

He claimed that the group’s members “were alarmed by an emergent alliance of those who have been fighting the government since 2012 and APC returnees who they fought hard to defeat during the 2015 elections.”

According to him, it was “repugnant to social justice for some persons to make the sacrifice to nurture the party for the past seven years only to have a group of people to attempt to wrest control of it for electoral contest.”

He warned that the PDPYN would mobilize its members in the state against any such attempt.

“Those peddling the false narrative that the PDP would win the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Bayelsa State without the PDP Restoration Team which has waged all the battles for the party’s victories, nurtured it to a strong, cohesive platform, are not doing the party any good.”

To him, there should be “a difference in reward between those who selfishly see the PDP only as a platform to pursue their gubernatorial ambition and those who have associated with it through thick and thin to build it to an impregnable and cohesive political platform.

“The PDP is an attraction for political contest today because of the sacrifices of those who have remained in it such as the Youth Network, the Women Alliance, and the leadership all under the Restoration Family.”

He added: “It would be regrettable for the national leadership òf the PDP to think that the party would win the Bayelsa gubernatorial election without the support of Governor Dickson and the Restoration Team.

“Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson, must stand up in defence of what is right before it is too late.”

PoliticsFormidable Team Needed For My Next Level Work, Says Buhari by OILFLASHY1(op): 9:13am On Jul 03, 2019
President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday gave an insight into his “dream team”, saying that his administration requires a formidable team to deliver on his Next Level mandate.

Buhari, who is expected to name his cabinet members any moment from now, promised not to disappoint the country and to do everything to end insecurity.

The President spoke when he hosted at the State House, Abuja, two of the groups that supported his second term ambition – Buhari Media Organisation (BMO) and Buhari Support Group Centre (BSGC).

The BMO was led by its chairman Omoniyi Akinsiju and the BSGC led by its Director-General, Alhaji Umaru Dembo.

Stressing that he will make Nigeria a peaceful and prosperous nation, Buhari promised to leave Nigeria better than he met it.

The President said: “Our government continues to grow in strength and will place a firm foundation for future generations.

“While there will be those who are determined to drag us back to the bad old days, your visit is timely. It is exactly a month ago that I was sworn in for a second term in office. The task ahead for the four years will require a formidable team.”

He described BMO as a key communication asset in the information management of his administration.

Buhari said: “Your efforts have been commendable. I cannot thank you enough for your sacrifices during the first part of our journey.

“We have just come off rigorous campaigns during which I visited all the 36 states of the federation, campaigning, seeking the votes of Nigerians and telling them what we have done in the last four years.

“I campaigned on three simple premises not different from those of 2015 – to tackle insecurity, promote economic diversification and to fight corruption. Fulfilling these three promises is fundamental to taking Nigeria to the Next Level.

PoliticsSenator Elisha Abbo Breaks Silence On Alleged Assault Inside Abuja gadget Shop by OILFLASHY1(op): 7:17am On Jul 03, 2019
Senator Elisha Abbo (Adamawa North District) has admitted that he is the man in a video that has gone viral, physically assaulting a woman in a intimacy gadget shop in Abuja.

However, Abbo, speaking to the Daily Sun, claimed the video was distorted.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker, who is the youngest Senator in the ninth National Assembly, was seen in a 10-minute video footage repeatedly slapping a woman after she pleaded with him not to physically assault the shop owner whom the senator had accused of calling him a drunk.

The assault reportedly happened on May 11, 2019, nearly three months after he became Senator-elect.

Abbo, however, insists he was not a Senator at the time of the incident and suggested that the footage was doctored.

“There is a video of me on social media. Let me state very clearly that when it happened, I was not a senator. It happened a long time ago.

“There is an aspect of that video that they took off. They didn’t show where my sister who accompanied me there collapsed and had to be rushed out in an ambulance. But we will provide our own response soon,” Abbo said.

PoliticsPDP Blasts Obaseki Over Silence On RUGA Settlement by OILFLASHY1(op): 12:58pm On Jul 01, 2019
The Peoples Democratic Party in Edo State has accused Governor Godwin Obaseki of secretly conceding land to the federal government for a pilot scheme of the RUGA Settlement.

It said Governor Obaseki’s silence on the issue at a time other state governments are rejecting the establishment of RUGA settlement in their respective states was worrisome.

The PDP vowed to use all possible means including legal actions to defend the interest of Edo people in respect of the RUGA settlement.

State Chairman of the PDP, Chief Dan Orbih, who spoke Monday at a press briefing in Benin City urged Obaseki to understand that land is finite and could not be used in exchange for political bargains and favour.

Chief Orbih said Obaseki must listen to Edo people and the cries of victims of herdsmen activities.

Orbih said the PDP was concerned about political events in the state especially the lack of cohesion in the state House of Assembly dominated by members of the APC.

He urged all those concerned with the unhealthy political situation in the assembly to put aside their internal political differences and think about the greater interest of the state.

Orbih noted that lawmakers that should lead the agitation for government critical intervention to ameliorate the hardships of the people are missing in action.

According to him, “The APC can no longer blame the PDP for its misrule. The only achievement of Governor Obaseki is huge debt profile for Edo State. Obaseki is celebrating birthday at a time Edo people have nothing to celebrate.

“There is nothing to give impression of hope. The new central hospital is now for high blood pressure test, radio diagnostics and dialysis. What is happening to the 200-bed hospital. There is an urgent need to end the blame game and let the people have full benefits of the facilities in the hospital.

TV/MoviesBbnaija: Nigerians Express Shock Over Choice Of Housemates by OILFLASHY1(op): 12:52pm On Jul 01, 2019
Some Nigerians have expressed their shock over the choice of housemates in the ongoing fourth season of the Big Brother Naija reality show.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the season kicked off on Sunday with 21 housemates, most of whom some viewers have described as “more foreign than Nigerian.”

Respondents said that it was puzzling how Manchester-based Mike, London police office Khafi and Ike, who said this was his first one in Lagos, made the cut while thousands of Nigerians flooded audition centres in February.

Recall that audition centres across the country were crowded with people struggling to get in by scaling the fence.

Viewers felt it was unfair to have people risk lives to audition and then pick Nigerians in the diaspora.

@Omojuwa said, “I have a problem with everyday Nigerians struggling across the country to audition for this thing, yet it appears they stood no chance from the beginning.

“That should have been made clear to them from the start. Big Brother Phonetics. It appears this is Big Brother Nigeria Diaspora.”

@BabaRoyan tweeted, “Too much handpicking! Connection is the main thing to strive In Nigeria! While The main people who went for d audition wea selected to become #BBNaija NINJAs.”

@Ibidunmary said, “I said it to someone all those people jumping fence, crossing hurdles to make it to the audition none of them is in the house, all these ones are imported.”

PoliticsGov. Fintiri Revokes School Land Allocated To Individuals by OILFLASHY1(op): 6:58pm On Jun 28, 2019
Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa has revoked all schools’ land allocated to individuals in the state.

The Director-General, Media and Communications to the governor, Mr Solomon Kumangar, made this known Friday while briefing newsmen in Yola.

Kumangar said that many people have encroached and build on primary and secondary school lands across the state, particularly in Yola, Mubi and Michika local government areas.

Kumangar said the administration, which was committed to the revamping of education in the state, has directed the payment of matching grant to UBEC to access N8.2 billion basic education stimulus.

“As a prequel to declaring free and compulsory education to shore up enrollment and halt the high level of drop-outs, the government has set as a target, the rehabilitation of 5,000 schools in the next six months..

“Gov. Fintiri has not only ensured free feeding for nine junior and senior secondary schools within the state capital but the programme will be expanded to cover 58 boarding secondary schools beginning from September.”

In area of agriculture, Kumangar said Gov. Fintiri has approved the establishment of stock shops in all the 21 Local Government Areas (LGAs) where farmers could access farm inputs easily.

In area of security, Kumangar said that the state government supported the recent arrest of 68 kidnappers and 252 gang members known as “Shila Boys” terrorizing residents of Yola.

“The government has also initiated dialogue between farmers and herders aimed at ending the incessant disturbances, especially in southern part of the state.

“In addition, a law to impose harsh punishment on all categories of criminals terrorizing the state, is before state assembly, to provide the necessary legal bite for enforcement,” Kumangar said.

PoliticsBuhari, Presidential Panel On Afcfta Meet In Aso Rock by OILFLASHY1(op): 4:20pm On Jun 27, 2019
President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday met with the members of the Presidential Committee on Impact and Readiness Assessment African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Agreement.

The meeting started at the Council Chamber of the State House around 3pm.

The committee is expected to submit its report to the President.

The African Union’s Heads of State and Governments had resolved in 2012 to establish African Continental Free Trade Agreement treaty to create a single continental market for goods and services in member nations.

The treaty is to cover agreements on trade in goods, services, investment, and rules and procedures on dispute settlement, including a range of provisions to facilitate trade, reduce transaction costs, provide exceptions, flexibilities and safeguards for vulnerable groups and countries in challenging circumstances.

But Nigeria had withheld its signature to the agreement as the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Manufacturers’ Association of Nigeria (MAN) among other groups kicked against signing the treaty.

They had warned that signing the treaty was extremely dangerous to Nigeria as it would open the country’s seaports, airports and other businesses to unbridled foreign interference and domination.

The groups had pushed for proper consultations and inputs of all interest groups on issues concerning market access and enforcement of rules of origin.

President Buhari had then declared that Nigeria will only be signatory to the African Continental Free Trade Agreement if the nation’s national interests, regional and international obligations are balanced.

SportsMohamed Salah Reacts After Egypt Sent Warda Home For ‘sexually Harassing’ Women by OILFLASHY1(op): 3:57pm On Jun 27, 2019
Egypt forward, Mohamed Salah, has broken silence after his international teammate, Amr Warda, was disgraced from Egypt’s campaign in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

2019 AFCON: Mohamed Salah reacts after Egypt sent Warda home for ‘sexually harassing’ women

25-year-old Warda appeared as a substitute in the host nation’s opening game against Zimbabwe but was sent home before their clash against Congo on Wednesday.
There were allegations that he sexually harassed a number of women on the internet.

A British Egyptian model, Merhan Keller, released screenshots of inappropriate messages she and other women allegedly received from Warda on Instagram and Whatsapp.

Salah, who condemned acts surrounding the allegations, insisted that Warda shouldn’t have been “sent straight to the guillotine”.

The Liverpool forward wrote on Twitter: “Women must be treated with the utmost respect. ‘No’ means ‘no’. Those things are and must remain sacred.

“I also believe that many who make mistakes can change for the better and shouldn’t be sent straight to the guillotine, which is the easiest way out.

“We need to believe in second chances… we need to guide and educate. Shunning is not the answer.”
