Sports / Super Eagles Lineup Vs Algeria by Ojeniran95: 6:42pm On Jul 14, 2019 |
Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has named an unchanged lineup for today’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations semifinal clash against the Desert Foxes of Algeria. Rohr maintains the same starting lineup that defeated the Bafana Bafana of South Africa 2-1 in the quarterfinal on Wednesday. Daniel Akpeyi keeps his position in goal for his fifth appearance in the competition and will hope his goal is not breached after letting in three goals in the team’ last two games. Jamilu Collins will start his second game of the competition where he is expected to have a busy evening against Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez. Chidozie Awaziem, Kenneth Omeruo and William Troost-Ekong complete the four-man defence. The trio of Wilfred Ndidi, Oghenekaro Etebo and Alex Iwobi will marshall the midfield. The competition’s joint top scorer Odion Ighalo will lead the attack and will be flanked by Samuel Chukwueze and Ahmed Musa. Super Eagles Lineup Vs Algeria: Akpeyi, Awaziem, Omeruo, Troost-Ekong, Collins, Ndidi, Etebo, Iwobi, Chukwueze, Musa, Ighalo |
Sports / AFCON 2019: Super Eagles Lineup Vs South Africa by Ojeniran95: 5:57pm On Jul 10, 2019 |
Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has made two changes to his side for today’s (Wednesday) 2019 Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinal clash against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa, with Samuel Chukwueze and Jamilu Collins starting. Left-back Jamilu Collins will make his debut appearance in the competition with Torino of Italy new signing Ola Aina dropping to the bench. Aina started all of Nigeria’s previous four games in the competition but may have lost his place in the starting line-up after a not too impressive win against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the second round. Young winger, Samuel Chukwueze who takes the place of Moses Simon will start his second game of the competition. Chukwueze started the side’s opening game against the Swallows of Burundi. Chippa United goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi retain his position in goal with the trio of Chidozie Awaziem, Kenneth Omeruo and William Troost-Ekong joining Collins in the defence. The trio of Wilfred Ndidi, Oghenekaro Etebo and Alex Iwobi will as usual line up in midfield. Competition’s joint top scorer, Odion Ighalo will lead the attack and will be flanked by Chukwueze and vice-captain Ahmed Musa. SUPER EAGLES 1X VS SOUTH AFRICA Daniel Akpeyi, Jamilu Collins, Kenneth Omeruo, William Troost-Ekong, Chidozie Awaziem, Wilfred Ndidi, Oghenekaro Etebo, Alex Iwobi, Ahmed Musa, Samuel Chukwueze, Odion Ighalo. |

Gernot Rohr has made several changes to his starting line-up for the Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 clash against Cameroon at the Alexandria Stadium. Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has returned to the starting XI, meaning the only home-based player in the squad, Ikechukwu Ezenwa has to be content with a place on the bench. Chelsea Academy product Ola Aina has been an ever-present for the Super Eagles at the AFCON and he will continue in his role as a left-back with Chidozie Awaziem slotting in at right-back, while Kenneth Omeruo partners William Troost-Ekong at the heart of defence. Wilfred Ndidi and Oghenekaro Etebo will sit in front of the Super Eagles defence, with Arsenal star Alex Iwobi playing as an attacking midfielder. As expected, Odion Ighalo has gotten the nod to lead the attack and the former Watford man is flanked by Ahmed Musa and Moses Simon. Nigeria Starting XI : Akpeyi; Awaziem, Omeruo, Ekong, Aina; Ndidi, Etebo, Iwobi; Simon, Ighalo, Musa |

Romance / Should Kids Under 16 Be Encouraged To Date? by Ojeniran95: 9:52am On Jul 31, 2017 |
With the increase in dating culture, I’ve seen 13 y/o kids getting into relationships and falling in love. When I was 13, ‘love’ was what my parents and siblings did to me. While many may argue that the kind of relationships pre-teens have is not an actual one, I still argue that such relationships should also not be encouraged. Why? 1. They distract a lot of time. This is a stage where most of their focus should be inclines towards getting good grades and learning new skills, so as to build a strong foundation for the future. If they indulge in finding a partner, the newly found excitement will take up most of their time. 2. ‘Heartbreaks.’ I’ve seen 12 year olds posting statuses that ‘I’m done with dating.’ Seriously, what? They don’t even know what being in a relationship means and they take up so much on their heart due to ‘heartbreaks’. While this may seem cute for us, what effect does it have on their mind? 3. Peer pressure and complexes. These kinda things happen in highschool. But they’re gradually shifting to middle schools where kids are no more kids. This innocent age is being affected. Already having rich gadgets and looking like a model, if this being in a ‘relationship’ becomes a fad, what will happen? 4. They’re simply too young. You never know when they take a next step they aren’t supposed to. With the reach of internet, they might end themselves in trouble. Comment below to discuss together!

Crime / My Experience While Boarding LAGBUS And With Police by Ojeniran95: 4:03pm On Dec 05, 2016 |
It was in the morning around 9pm when I board the lagbus (the so called BRT) from toll-gate to Oshodi fast-forward around 10am we were already at iyana-ipaja Lagos then the bus stopped picking up passengers who will be on their feet until we get to the last bus top(they're called standing) unknowingly for the driver he parked on the road ignoring the police because police don't usually punish them but he met his Waterloo that day. The police move closer to the bus and ordered the driver out the driver was full of confidence alighting from the bus knowing that police don't usually do anything to them. As soon as he got down the police gave him one rod stick to start controlling the traffic he was surprised though the driver was reluctant but the look on the police face shows that he meant business. The driver was surprised and start controlling the traffic. After much pleading with the police from the passengers the police released the driver 20 minutes later. By then the driver has been sweating profusely. Then the police explained to us that he could have got both the driver and the bus arrested but he has pity on the passengers. Also he could have made the driver to do other community service but that was his own way of punishment. I probably think this method of punishing stubborn driver is good Pardon my English oo |
NYSC / What Is NYSC Turning To? by Ojeniran95: 7:39pm On Dec 02, 2016 |
I can't see the change mantra! Corps members are being killed, now not with machetes: not only their blood are being spilled, but our tears are being shed. Our elders will say big issues are better analysed from smaller perspective. I remember I wrote several articles on the need to scrap NYSC or better still make it optional. This morning my pen came bleeding again when I woke to the news of the dead of miss Elechi Chenyerem, a 27 year old corps member who died in Bayelsa camp. As if that was not enough, this same week we heard about the death of Ifedolapo Oladepo, a first class graduate of Transport Management of Lautech who died in Kanu camp as a result of negligence. The report claimed she was refused treatment because of an assumption that she wanted to evade parade. What nous is in that please? It is annoyingly sad, shockingly barbaric and painfully unfortunate that these corps members agreed to go through the obviously pointless NYSC programme, even at the cost of losing a full year of their lives. They agreed to serve a country that only pays back with blood and tears. After all, what they get is degrading and inhumane situation that eventually led to their dead. Come to think of it in the spite of this cold-hearted treatment, poor welfare condition, paltry monthly allowance and the case where prospective corps members have to be delayed for about a year before they are being mobilised is a serious issue that need to be looked into if the scheme must proceed. If Mr. President still believe in this youth service programme, if he still thinks it hasn’t lost it valour and savour, if he still thinks our youths are rather not being used as pawns in the game of chess, Why then is Zahra Buhari, his daughter not serving her fathers land like others even though she just graduated? I stopped believing in Mr. President change mantra when I didnt see the change. Why must it only be the children of the masses that should serve their fathers land? Why must it be only them subjected to this inhumane situation? “We must begin the change!" God bless Nigeria! I dedicate this article to Ifedolapo and Chinyerem. May God grant your families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss Teepen (unrepentant optimist) #Copied

Phones / Officially: NCC Suspends Planned Hike In Data Tariff by Ojeniran95: 4:52pm On Nov 30, 2016 |
Authorities of the Nigerian Communications Commission NCC has suspended its plan to increase data tariff on all telecommunication networks with effect from tomorrow December 1st. A statement by the commission says the suspension is to allow for further consultation by all stakeholders. There has been a public outright since the commission announced plans to direct telecommunication networks to increase their data tariffs. Read the press statement by NCC, after the cut. Following the concerns that visited the directive to introduce price floor for data segment of the telecommunications sector beginning from December 1, 2016, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has suspended any further action in that direction. The decision to suspend this directive was taken after due consultation with industry stakeholders and the general complaints by Consumers across the country. The Commission has weighed all of this and consequently asked all operators to maintain the status quo until the conclusion of study to determine retail prices for broadband and data services in Nigeria. Recall that the Commission wrote to the Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) on November 1, 2016 on the determination of an interim price floor for data services after the stakeholder’s consultative meeting of October 19, 2016. The decision to have a price floor was primarily to promote a level playing field for all operators in the industry, encourage small operators and new entrants. The price floor in 2014 was N3.11k/MB but was removed in 2015. The price floor that was supposed to flag off on December 1, 2016 was N0.90k/MB. In taking that decision, the smaller operators were exempted from the new price regime, by virtue of their small market share. The decision on the price floor was taken in order to protect the consumers who are at the receiving end and save the smaller operators from predatory services that are likely to suffocate them and push them into extinction. The price floor is not an increase in price but a regulatory safeguard put in place by the telecommunications regulator to check anti-competitive practices by dominant operators. This statement clarifies the insinuation in some quarters that the regulator has fixed prices for data services. This is not true because the NCC does not fix prices but provides regulatory guidelines to protect the consumers, deepen investments and safeguard the industry from imminent collapse. Before the new suspended price floor of N0.90k/MB, the industry average for dominant operators including MTN Nigeria Communications Limited, EMTS Limited (Etisalat) and Airtel Nigeria Limited was N0.53k/MB. Etisalat offered (N0.94k/MB), Airtel (N0.52k/MB), MTN (N0.45k/MB) and Globacom (N0.21k/MB). The smaller operators/ new entrants charge the following: Smile Communications N0.84k/MB, Spectranet N0.58k/MB and NATCOMS (NTEL) N0.72k/MB. The NCC as a responsive agency of government takes into consideration the feelings of the consumers and so decided to suspend the new price floor. Signed Tony Ojobo Director, Public Affairs NCC

Sports / Eagles’ Coach: NFF To Release Shortlist On Friday by Ojeniran95: 11:55am On Jul 07, 2016 |
Eagles’ Coach: NFF to release shortlist on Friday The Nigeria Football Federation will on Friday, 8th July release a short-list of candidates for the vacant position of Super Eagles’ Head Coach. However, the Federation’s Technical and Development Committee has set a deadline of Wednesday, 6th July 2016 for interested candidates to apply for the position. Chairman of the committee, Barrister Chris Green, told thenff.com that applications are invited from all persons who feel they are qualified for the position, as the three –time African champions get set to begin preparations for an interesting 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying race against Algeria, Cameroon and Zambia. “We encourage applications from all highly –qualified persons, whether they be Nigerians or expatriates. Applications are welcome until Wednesday, and the Technical and Development Committee will meet on Friday to look through all applications and release a short-list,” Green stated. The Super Eagles are away to Zambia’s Chipolopolo on Matchday 1 (October 3) and will then host the Fennecs of Algeria onNovember 7. They will then host Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions on August 28, 2017 and visit the Lions five days later, before hosting Zambia a month after and then rounding off the series by visiting Algeria on November 7, 2017. Algeria beat Nigeria home and away in the qualifying series for the 1982 World Cup in Spain, but Nigeria returned the compliment in the qualifying series for the 2006 World Cup in Germany. Nigeria threw Cameroon out of the race for the 1970 World Cup finals, but then lost to the Lions in the race to the 1990 World Cup finals. Cameroon also beat Nigeria in three Africa Cup of Nations final matches (1984, 1988, 2000), but the Super Eagles eliminated then holders Cameroon in the Cup of Nations quarter finals in 2004, beat the Lions to the LG Cup title and whiplashed the neighbours 3-0 in a friendly in Belgium in October last year. Zambia pipped Nigeria over two legs in the last hurdle to the 1986 Africa Cup of Nations finals, but the Super Eagles stopped the Zambians at the semi final stage of the 1990 finals in Algeria, edged the Chipolopolo in the final of the 1994 championship in Tunisia, and also pipped the southern Africans in the quarter –finals of the 1992 and 2010 championships.
