In terms of total stock market capitalisation (equities) in all of Africa:

1) South Africa - $1.17 trillion
2) Morocco - $100.1 Billion
3) Nigeria - $59.3 Billion

(As at close of trade yesterday and using official exchange rates)
Normally naija should be second on the list.....god punish devaluation.

So this thing sold at 2 naira, this is one of those times I thank God I did not do DD then, because if I did, I probably would not have bought at 4 naira because I would have assumed that it had already reached its high.
Bought mine at 1.8 though have sold most of it to remain little 5 figure units, holding is a virtue

I was wondering too until I asked ChatGPT. Here's the response:

Yes, there's a strong reason behind why the price of a stock listed on the London Stock Exchange (LSE) — or any major international exchange — can influence or even determine the price of the same stock listed on a local market. Here's a clear breakdown of why this happens:

📌 1. Arbitrage Opportunities
Arbitrage is the practice of buying an asset in one market where it's cheaper and selling it in another where it's more expensive — risk-free profit.

So if a stock is listed on both:

Nigeria Exchange (NGX) at ₦100

London Stock Exchange (LSE) equivalent of ₦110

Then traders can:

Buy in Nigeria at ₦100

Sell in London at ₦110

Make ₦10 profit (minus fees)

This forces prices to align across both markets, because traders will keep exploiting the difference until the gap closes.

📌 2. Foreign Exchange Adjustments
Prices in different countries are converted using exchange rates. So even if the stock is ₦100 in Nigeria, and £1 = ₦1000, the equivalent price on LSE would be £0.10 — and vice versa. If the LSE price rises to £0.12, the Nigerian price may rise to ₦120 to match.

So the foreign price changes affect the local price after exchange rate adjustments.

📌 3. Liquidity and Market Influence
The London market often has greater liquidity, more trading volume, and more global investor participation.

This makes the London price a more "accurate" reflection of global investor sentiment.

Local markets often "follow" the global one because the price discovery (real value assessment) happens on the larger, more active exchange.

📌 4. Depositary Receipts / Cross-Listing Rules
In many cases, what’s listed on the foreign exchange is a Depositary Receipt (like GDR or ADR). These are representations of the local stock, and their prices are contractually tied to the price of the actual shares. So movements in one will directly impact the other.

📌 5. News and Time Zones
Sometimes, price changes in LSE happen first because:

Global markets open earlier or later than local ones.

International investors react faster to news or economic data.

The local market then adjusts once it opens or when the news reaches it.

Real-Life Example:
Seplat Energy is dual-listed on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) and the LSE.

If Seplat’s share price increases by 5% on LSE due to news (e.g., oil price surge), it’s highly likely that NGX will reflect a similar increase the next trading day.

If not, arbitrageurs and informed traders will exploit the mispricing until prices converge.
Not that I expect the bot to answer though but Chatgpt's response is not really addressing why it is Naija side that has to pursue UK rate and not the other way round which is the original point.

NGX in July completed a 20 day positive run. I don’t think I’ve seen anything like this before.
Closing the month of July at almost 140k...no be small thing...wonder if a bubble is enroute grin but again the devaluation was in almost 3x so maybe this is just repricing taking place.

GTCO closed at 0.09 usd today on the London stock exchange.
That's about 138 naira per share.
Closed at 101.95 on Nigerian stock exchange.

Bargain hunters take note. 👌
Its interesting how UK price is now the target for GTCO when it should be the other way round. GTCO has more investment in naija hence ngx price should be the dominant...the market is growing sha...hopefully ngx go become a big force to recon

If you buy when Loco is buying and shouting buy buy buy,na to sit down and make your own exit plan and leave Loco alone.

Loco is inside Royalex 💯 with substantial units.
Royalex is a stock of 500%.
Loco fit no ride to 500% if he sees another opportunity in an undervalued stock.

Na only undervalued stock we dey detect and promote and move it to a value zone.

Boss, mind shedding some light on what happened? I’m sure a lot of people here were also hoping to work with him right now and in the future …. And You know what they say .. the cane used to flog the first wife doesn’t change for the second.
I can see he wrote an version of what happened. Here is what truly happened and this is going to be a bit long and I won't comment further but like I said, I certainly won't say you should judge with my experience. He may have improved over time.

Summary of events that happened for over 2 months:
Asked him for clearing cost of the car he gave me at 10% which was full duty. I asked someone else the person gave me same price but because he has been following up and asking me to give him a car to clear and because I had a couple of cars I wanted to clear, I decided to give him a trial by giving him 1 and have my other agent do the rest.

Lesson 1: Don't give a car that is not common to a new agent you are just giving a trial. By common, cars like Camry, corolla etc are common cars

Between paying him for clearing and the time he claimed he will get valuation and pay duty, rate reduced which made 950k extra to be with him which he confirmed he will refund when he is done with clearing. After about 2 weeks of no car cleared, he started saying custom wants 20% and he was asking me to add extra money to 950k that was with him so he can settle for them to accept 10%, By this time it was getting to a month. I resolved I was going to rather pay the 20% so the duty amount is on book. Basically paid him all the money then he took another 1 week to get through with that.

All the demurrage he then asked me to pay, of which 80% of the delay were caused by him but I was asked to pay. Told him to use the 950k then he claimed he used it for settlement, even though I was now paying 20% duty. None of the payment either 10% or 20% were intended to be short payment it was full duty. Since I wanted my car out I still paid up and told him to refund my money or provide proof of the settlement he claimed. He promise to refund but he didn't. Then he sent 100k after multiple reminders.

Lesson 2: There are clearing agents that does not have direct clearing capacity/resources. From my conversation with him. At that time it was obvious he was not the one that handled the clearing directly

Lesson 3: There are agents that don't care since they believe they will push the cost to the importer they delay and ensure time is wasted when they are trying to be greedy. Either he is in that category or the agent he gave my job is in that category.

Lesson 4: Stick to the agent you are used to and only try out another with a small car.

That transaction was one of the biggest losses I made in car importing business but thank God for life.

What are we expecting from some of these companies (like japaul, Ellah and others) that want to raise funds, can they fix a price higher or lower than their current quoted price on the exchange? I mean based on old experience of the companies which did fund raising before.
The higher the better for their fund raising to avoid a bloated OS

What is happening to

Ellah Lakes
Guinea Insurance
McNichols, and
Neimeth ?

After rallying to a very high price, they have all been dripping down in price massively. Is it a case of Profit Taking, or were they Pumped and Dumped?
Ellah did not close at max red today, that should signal something. Its not abnormal for stock that has been doing 10% back to back to experience profit taking especially on Thursday and Fridays. I would expect some more profit taking on Omatek, Ellah, Decap etc tomorrow as well
