R&B duo P-Square, P Square and brother, Jude Okoye, in an interview with BBC London, cleared the air on the issue between them and Akinmayokun Awodumila, popularly known as May D. P-Square was in London to perform at the HMV Hammersmith Apollo, London for the Love Afrobeat Festival, visited BBC Africa's studios, just before the concert. Responding to questions sent by Facebook, Twitter and Google+ followers; CEO, Northside Ent. Ltd/Square Records, Jude Okoye said, "We did not sack May D. We just let him go." It was reported last week that Square Records released a press statement announcing the end of their business relationship with the only other artist on their label, Mr May D. According to the statement, the split is due to the irreconcilable differences between the two parties. The Okoyes further wished May D all the best in his career. Reacting to the statement, May D said "I do not know what they are talking about. You know I don’t stay in their house so how am I meant to know this?” May D was signed by the label some months ago and has released few hit tracks under the label including ‘Ile Ijo’, ‘Soundtrack’, and the remix he did with Akon and P-Square. They also sang a cappella one of their latest hits, Beautiful Onyinye, which they recently recorded with American superstar rapper, Rick Ross. The Love Afrobeats Festival, a cultural celebration of African music, was organised by African promoters, Cokobar, SMADE and Phoenix Global Media. The festival took over the 5000 capacity venue with performances from the biggest music forces including, Wande Coal, and Ghana’s finest E.L and Azonto sensation Fuse ODG, as well as two promising upcoming UK-based Afrobeat artists, DL and Ezi Emela. http://dailytimes.com.ng/article/we-didn%E2%80%99t-sack-may-d-we-let-him-go-%E2%80%93-square-records#.UD4Z_20kJ-0.twitter

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has banned the club’s young stars from driving flashy sports cars from new sponsors Chevrolet. United recently signed a multi-million-pound deal with the American car giant, who will become the name on the club’s shirts from the start of the 2014-15 season. As a gesture of goodwill, Chevrolet immediately offered United’s first-team stars a choice of luxury cars and understandably many of the club’s big names plumped for iconic Corvettes. However, Sportsmail understands Ferguson immediately intervened and decreed that no player under the age of 23 – no matter their standing in the team – should be allowed to order a sporty model. This means players such as young striker Danny Welbeck, 21, and defenders Phil Jones, 20, Chris Smalling, 22, and Rafael, 22, will be banned from driving anything not approved by Ferguson. The move is a classic case of Ferguson – the master man-manager – ensuring his young stars don’t get too big for their boots. Ferguson has always been hot on matters such as this. Two years ago, for example, it emerged he told players in the club’s youth squads they were not allowed to wear coloured football boots. Last night a United spokesperson confirmed: “As with most automotive partnerships, Chevrolet will be offering players a car. The model will be dependent on their time at the club and driving experience.” Source:http://dailypost.com.ng/2012/08/28/sir-alex-ferguson-bans-united-players-23-driving-flashy-chevrolet-cars/?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=sir-alex-ferguson-bans-united-players-23-driving-flashy-chevrolet-cars |

THE Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Bala Mohammed, at the weekend stunned his audience when he disclosed that the Abuja Master Plan was not envisaged to accommodate the needs of the common man. Mohammed spoke at the formal signing of the agreement for an Addendum of Variation of Scope Contract with the Chinese Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) to facilitate the completion of the multi-billion naira Abuja Light Rail Project, which commenced in 2006 but had been comatose since then due to lack of funds. His words: “With all regrets, Abuja initially did not capture the needs and aspiration of the common people and the middle level manpower that we have in terms of affordable housing.” According to the minister, Abuja, the nation’s capital was designed to accommodate only a million people, but that the territory now has a population of about four to five million people living in the area thereby putting pressure on available infrastructural facilities. “Abuja has more than four to five million people living in a place where it is supposed to be inhabited with only about a million people at the moment,” he said. The FCT minister, however, disclosed that the government was poised to provide infrastructural facilities at the satellite towns of the territory to give comfort to the middle class workforce that lives outside the city centre, and whose earnings may not afford them the luxury of private and chauffeur-driven vehicles. “At the end of the day we are going to reduce the pressure on our corridors by using the mass transit scheme to be provided by the Abuja Rail Project and the employment opportunity it will provide for the population. “We are going to provide employment opportunities for over one million people. And you can see that when people come to Abuja they try to stay anyhow. I am sorry with all apology and regrets that Abuja initially did not capture the needs and aspiration of the common people and the middle level manpower that we have in terms of affordable housing,” he said. But Mohammed assured that President Goodluck Jonathan had given the FCT administration the marching order to look inward and facilitate the provision of housing for the people in that category in order to address the numerous social impediments normally presented by them. Call Me Unique not Special says Mourinho Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho said Tuesday that he would prefer to be known as the "unique one" rather than the "special one" as a result of his achievements. "I'm the only one to have won the three biggest championships in the world," Mourinho said in an interview on Portuguese television channel Sic. "So whether it pleases or not, if one recognises my value or not... people should may be call me 'unique' rather than 'special' until someone else wins three championships like me." It was Mourinho who proclaimed himself to be the "special one" when he was coach of English Premier League side Chelsea from 2004 to 2007. The Portuguese coach joined Real Madrid in 2010 and won the Primera Liga title in his second season to become one of the few coaches to win titles in four different countries -- Portugal, England, Italy and Spain. He is also the only coach to have won two Champions League titles with two different clubs -- FC Porto in 2004 and Inter Milan in 2010. Mourinho coached FC Porto (Portuguese champions 2003, 2004 and Champions League winners 2004), Chelsea (English Premier League title 2005, 2006) and Inter Milan (Serie A champions in 2009, 2010). The 49-year-old said he felt "an enormous joy at Inter Milan" when they won their titles but insisted that his goals were shifting with age. "I'm turning increasingly towards people," he said. "That's what motivates me more and more, instead of pursuing individaul goals." source:http://www.football.co.uk/real_madrid/call_me_unique_not_special_says_mourinho_rss3385922.shtml |
