A human rights group, the Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice(CHRSJ) has declared that the killing of Hauwa Leman, an aid Health worker with the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) by the Boko Haram sect, had shown General Muhammadu Buhari(rtd) as a
failed democratically elected President leading a failed government in Nigeria.

Forget 2019 Presidency, Save Lagos Group tells Buhari

A Lagos based civil rights movement, Save Lagos Group (SLG) has advised the President and Commander – in – Chief of Armed Forces and Presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari, (rtd) to forget about being re-elected as nation’s President in 2019 general elections, saying that Nigerians had tired of the failed electoral promises of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) led Federal Government.

The group also called on the good people of the country to rally round the Presidential standard bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar who was fully prepared to rescue the land from the dark and dangerous route of Muhammadu Buhari administration.

According to the group’s Convener, Comrade Adeniyi, Alimi Sulaiman, in a statement made available to NEWSFLASHNGR.COM on Sunday, he noted that Nigeria needs the life (not lifeless) leader that would bring back robust economy, thereby returning the country to the path of progress, growth and development.

Civil Servants in Anambra state especially those in the Office of the Head of Service (HOS) have been enjoined to follow the footsteps of their predecessors in order to attain greater heights.

The HOS Anambra State Mr Harry Udu gave the charge on Dec. 6, at the Chief Jerome Udoji Secretariat Complex, Awka during sent-forth ceremony organized by the staff for their retired colleagues and those on transfer.

Udu, NEWSFLASHNGR.COM can understand was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Public Service, Manpower Development and Welfare Service, Office of the Head of Service, Mr Chibueze D Okoli, commended the organisers of the event.

He thanked God Almighty for keeping the retirees alive to see the end of their service as they retired in good health.

Udu, then, commended the retirees for their efforts and contributions while in service.
He advised them to create positive impact with the wealth of knowledge they garnered from service in any new endeavour.

In a remark, the Chairman, Staff Member Association of the Office of the Head of Service, Mr Prince Nwude, thanked everyone who graced the occasion, most especially the Head of Service and Grand Patron of the Association, Mr Udu for his support.

Mr Nwude, then, prayed for God’s protection on the retirees and other civil servants for peaceful entry into 2018.

In a vote of thanks, one of the retirees, Mr P.T. Mbah, on behalf of his colleagues expressed happiness at the warm sent-forth celebration organised for them.

``Be diligent in their duties and always seek the face of God in all they do in life,’’ Mr Mbah prayed for those still in service.

He wished them long life and prosperity.

The retirees were, however, presented with gift items by the Head of Service, Mr Udu.

Defense of human rights is originally rooted in volunteerism, passion for humanity and selfless service to humanity. It is also not-for-profit activity.

Collective rights and their management are the very reason why State or government was founded; for the purpose of ensuring that citizens exercise their rights within bounds or without encroaching on the rights of others.

For human rights to be effectively exercised and enjoyed by the citizens, they must not be allowed to be exercised or enjoyed beyond established bounds or at the detriment of the rights of others.

Natural beneficiaries of human rights have in many cases been found engaging in wanton disrespect of the rights of others in the course of exercise of their own rights. Governments and other State actors are also reckless violators of the citizens’ rights.

Nigeria especially under the present central government of Retired Major Gen Muhammadu Buhari is a notorious human rights violator. These explain the reason why the same Government hardly mentions human rights as one of its policy directions (if any) since its inception in late May 2015.

The roles of human rights activists and organizations, especially in Nigeria have over the years been grossly misunderstood or taken for granted by the beneficiaries of such human rights campaigns, successive governments and other State actors.

At the level of social organizations (i.e. pro Biafra agitators), defense of their human rights by the likes of Intersociety and SBCHROs has also grossly been misconstrued or taken for granted.

Individual and group defenders of human rights are, in most cases, erroneously seen as “members” or “branches” or an extension of the victim-social groups. Both State actor violators and non State actor victim-groups and individual victims are guilty of this.
Violator-public office holders or government officials also see human rights defenders as “bought over” or “sponsored by the opposition”.

This is the weakest point of intellectual logic and argumentation and has been responsible for government woes over the years in Nigeria. Defense of human rights goes hand in hand with democratic free speech; yet in the recent words of Mr. Shehu Garba (Buhari’s media aide), “those criticizing Buhari Administration are those wanting to be bribed to shut up”.

Truly speaking, the defense of human rights through individual or group activism or advocacy has largely been corrupted, monetized and bastardized especially in present Nigeria. The central aim of human rights campaign has largely been lost.

Natural or original defense of human rights and selfless and conscientious human rights defenders have eluded the present Nigeria. Human rights undertakers and merchants have taken over and dominated.

According to several scholars and researchers who studied the dark sides of human rights activism around the world, “human rights undertakers or profiteers of human misery have taken over and dominated the defense of human rights in modern world”.

The Deputy Governor of Anambra state, Dr. Nkem Okeke has appealed to the electorates to vote for Dr Willie Obiano of APGA on November 18, governorship poll in the bid to realize his second term in office.

Okeke made the plea during an interactive session with NEWSFLASHNGR.COM yesterday in Awka, as he charged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and all stakeholders to ensure that the guber polls taking place on Saturday in Anambra will be free, fair and credible.

He reminded INEC that all eyes are focused on Anambra and as such ensure that they give a good account of themselves by shaming people who allege of plans to rig the election.

He extolled Governor Obiano for his various achievements in education, health, agriculture, attracting investors to the state etc and charged people of Anambra to ensure they pay back through his re-election.

The deputy governor gave his strong support to zoning, saying, “We need to continue with rotational government in Anambra, though not the best, let us try to accommodate the process.

“Obi came from Anambra central to serve 8 years. Let us allow Obiano to complete two terms, then another zone takes over. If we restrict to the zone, there will be less money to spend”.
He said, “Government has done much in governance, especially in the area of providing security to lives and property, ensuring there is enabling environment for farmers to produce needed food for the people, rehabilitation/construction of good road network to transportation of goods farm produce and movement of people across the state, as well as laying strong foundation industrial establishment, trade and commerce.

“If our farmers can grow and harvest their crops, industries manufacture goods and sell, people are employed, you are improving the lives of people in Anambra. Rice production has increased to several million metric tons, and government is exporting yams aboard. This is what Obiano is doing for people in the state.

“Government has made provision of giant transformers to power factories at Nnewi and Onitsha , has encouraged investors to come into the state. With more investors flocking in to industries, the state revenue base will improve thereby increasing that state Internally Generated Revenue.

He however expressed concern on the heavy criticism coming from the opposition, tackling the governor, giving promises of what they do not have, but quickly reminded them that governance is not easy, adding that governance is not personality clash.

We know that death is inevitable but Mr Jide’s death is a colossal loss to Nigeria because it has denied the country the service of a resourceful, brilliant, able, ebullient and promising Nigeria. It is sudden, shocking, painful and cruel!

We pray that almighty Allah give the Tinubu family the fortitude to bear the loss. A statement by the Media Adviser to Governor Rauf Aregbesola, Mr. Sola Fasure, disclosed that government at the end of the State Executive Council Meeting condemned the deliberate attempt by some disgruntled element to thwart the effort of government geared at developing the state into an economically prosperous state among it’s pears in the country.

It will be recalled that the State Government on October 26, 2017 signed a concession agreement with All Works of Life Development Organisation (AWOL International Limited) in conjunction with Turkish Exam Bank.
‎
Receiving the report of the finalisation of the agreement, the Executive Council expressed satisfaction on the arrangement and urged all the parties to do everything possible to deliver the first phase on or before the eight months envisaged in the agreement.
‎
Council however described the conscious efforts of the oppositions to drive a wedge into the agreement to develop the state as pure act of sabotage, which wind will blow no one any good.
‎
The statement added that no amount of evil strategies by these individuals would stop the agreement set in motion to get the state on the international business radar through the completion and operation of the international airport.
‎
Council thus admonished the people of the state to be vigilant and not allow them to sabotage this lofty project the government has embarked upon.
‎
The statement said: “Council condemned the campaign of calumny embarked upon by the opposition, saying the falsehood being peddled by the party is not just opposition rhetoric but a grand plan to scuttle the project.”

Meanwhile, Council, in a bid to prevent outbreak of water borne diseases, has directed all producers and marketers of bottled and sachet water in the state to obtain certification for their operations and products from the relevant agency of government.

This move became necessary so as to safeguard public health and prevent outbreak of water borne diseases or other related diseases in the state.
‎
In addition, Council also directed that all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of government managing and carrying out economic intervention programmes in which an individual benefits to the tune of N100,000 and above, to bring all such individuals into the state’s tax net for the purpose of collecting tax from them.

This will exclude the cadets of Osun Youth Empowerment Scheme (OYES) and beneficiaries of other social protection programmes like Agba Osun.

Governor of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has described as shocking, the death of Jide Tinubu, son of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a statement by his Media Adviser, Mr. Sola Fasure, Aregbesola said he received the news of Jide’s death with great shock and grief.

He noted that in the African belief system, it is a very sad occurrence for a child to predecease his or her parent, saying Jide’s sudden demise is very painful.

The statement reads: “I received the sad news of the death of Jide Tinubu, the son of the former governor of Lagos State and the Party’s National Leader, Senator Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with great shock and grief.

“It is very sad to lose a child or any loved one for that matter at his or her prime. Jide’s death is a blow too many to his family, both extended and immediate.

“This indeed, is a very sad moment we all share with our great leader. My heartfelt condolence goes to the entire Tinubu family.

“On behalf of myself, the government and the good people of Osun, I offer our heartfelt condolences to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu at this moment of trial.

“We pray Almighty Allah (SWT) bestow on the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable lose and May Allah grant the late Jide eternal rest.”

33 year-old Lawrence Idoko was stabbed to death by his wife at their residence at 20, Kosoko Street, Ayetoro area of Lagos State on August 20, 2017 for allegedly receiving a text message from a girlfriend.

Neighbours including the landlord of the deceased, Chief Gani Akanni, testified of how the victim tolerated several physical attacks from his wife who was also known for fighting other neighbours and vandalizing properties at will. Chief Akanni also explained how he had giving the couple several notice of eviction owing to the woman’s violent tendencies.

President of Women Arise, Dr. Joe Okei Odumakin while speaking to NEWSFLASHNGR.COM crew outside the courtroom said, “For men experiencing domestic violence, silence is no longer golden, speak up before it is too late. Violence against men in matrimonial setups is on the increase and we must end this menace”

The case has however been adjourned to December 4, 2017 to allow for legal advice from the Lagos State Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) while the accused remains in prison custody.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has hit out hard at Governor Nyesom Wike and his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), asking them to bury their heads in shame over the ceding of oil wells belonging to Rivers to neighbouring Bayelsa, Abia and Akwa Ibom states.

Rivers APC in a statement issued to NEWSFLASHNGR.COM on Sunday in Port Harcourt berated Wike and the state PDP for attempting to shift the blame to former governor Chibuike Amaechi over the unfortunate development.

The party said in the statement signed by the State Chairman, Chief (Dr.) Davies Ibiamu Ikanya: “We are shocked by Wike and PDP’s brazen attempt to shift the blame to Rt. Hon. Amaechi via a statement issued by one Jerry Needam titled, ‘Oil Well Politics: Accept your empty promises, PDP tells Amaechi, APC’.

This simply shows how shameless both Wike and Rivers PDP leadership can be. It was Nyesom Wike and his confused PDP members who collaborated with then President Jonathan Goodluck to cede oil wells belonging to Rivers State to neighbouring Bayelsa, Abia and Akwa Ibom states to show their disdain for Rivers State and her people.Instead of hiding their faces in shame, they have the audacity to remind Rivers State and her people at this period of their golden age celebration, of how they wickedly connived with the then PDP-led Federal Government to deny Rivers State her entitlements as an oil producing State just because of their hatred for Amaechi.”

Rivers APC advised Wike and PDP not to celebrate their ugly feats in ruining the State that was being made Rivers of Gold under the watch of Amaechi to Rivers of Blood under the watch of Wike.

It lambasted Wike, Rivers PDP Chairman Felix Obuah and others who have made politics to lose its meaning in Rivers and are dissipating their energies on a vain plot to pull down Amaechi, who did all he could to give Rivers State purposeful leadership and is now serving Nigeria at the Federal level in the capacity of Minister of Transportation.

“But we are glad that good people of Rivers State are too intelligent to be swayed by misguided elements that never meant well for the State,” the statement said.

It added: “It is a pity that some PDP leaders who are desirous to milk the Rivers State treasury dry are attempting to compare Wike’s administration with that of Amaechi, forgetting that you cannot compare light with darkness.

Many major cities in Europe and America have a Holocaust Memorial; built to perpetuate the memory of about six million Jews that died in the waves of anti-Semitism that swept through the world at the time.

Get Your Politics Right If We Must Achieve Special Status- Save Lagos Group Urges Politicians In The State
A civil society organization, the Save Lagos Group (SLG) has admonished politicians in Lagos State to get their politics right if they must achieve their desire to get a special status for the state from the Federal Government.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Convener of Save Lagos Group, Comrade Adeniyi A. Sulaiman and the Director, Media and Strategy, Comrade Olaolu Oladipo, the dream of achieving the goal would continue to be a mirage if politicians in the state continue their antagonistic stance to their colleagues at the centre.

Appraising the socio-economic challenges plaguing the state, Save Lagos Group in the statement wrote that “It is clear that the state needs some form of assistance from the Federal Government in view of the various challenges that have continued to confront the state government over time but there has to be a paradigm shift in the engagement process between operators of the two tiers of government.”

According to the Save Lagos Group, successive state governments have lost golden opportunities in their quest to give vent to this aspiration but have lost the begging opportunities via the belligerent posturing of gladiators dotting the political landscape of the state.

“Prior to the advent of the Muhammadu Buhari-led government at the centre, the relationship between the various state governments that have been at the helms of affairs in the state and their colleagues at the centre have been at best turbulent and stormy. You will recollect the battle of wits that ensued between the government of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo (at the centre) and Senator Bola Tinubu at the state.
