Is a good one,but let him pay heartland players their sign on fees and match bonuses, because they have decided to boycott this weekend's match, and the consequence is relegation. |
It is exactly one year ago today that the country was visited with certain horror. Four students of the University of Port Harcourt were killed in the most barbaric manner. It happened in the Rivers State’s Omuokiri village, Aluu, October 5, 2012. That incident shook the nation. The boys werez Tamuno-Itekenasam Elkanah, Ugonna Kelechi Obuzor, Lloyd Toku Mike and Chiadika Lordson Biringa. They were brutally murdered by a cheering crowd in a broad daylight. The manner of their death attracted public indignation and outright condemnation, both within and outside the country. The students were said to have gone to the village to recover a debt, owed one of them. Another version of the story said the boys had gone to the village with dark intentions. The ‘debtor’, according to the first account, was said to have raised the alarm, which attracted the attention of members of a vigilance group. Members of the vigilance group allegedly arrested them, took them to the palace of the traditional ruler, Alhaji Hassan Welema, before they were paraded in the street naked. They were to be crudely tortured and then gruesomely murdered. Ironically, some policemen were allegedly part of the cheering number. The four students, first sons of their respective parents, were said to be inseparable and brought together by fate. Two of them, Lloyd and Ugonna were already putting finishing touches to their music album, titled, “Heart of the City”, with a track, “Ain’t no love in the heart of the city,’’ before they were murdered. One year after their murder, their parents, indeed, the whole word is still waiting for justice to be done. UNIPORT and Aluu community, too, are asking for justice. This is because of the bad image their murder created for the institution and Aluu community. The damage is unimaginable, according to both communities. For instance, after the incident, the impression created was that Aluu people are mindless murderers or that all Aluu citizens participated in the murderous act. And in an interview he once granted toSaturday Sun,the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Joseph A. Ajienka, talked about how embarrassing it had been for the academic community. Trial of accused persons After the murder of the four students, some persons were arrested and arraigned in a court of law, while the case has been heard eight times – that is, between October 2012 and August 2013. It started in Port Harcourt Magistrate Court and is now at the High Court. Eighteen persons have so far been arraigned in connection with the killing. October 17, 2012, 13 persons, including a 59-year-old traditional ruler, Alhaji Hassan Welema and a 24-year-old lady, Cynthia Chinwo, were arraigned before a Chief Magistrate’s Court. Others were ex-sergeant Lucky Orji, 43; Lawal Segun, 28; George Nwadei, 20; Ekpe Daniel, 30; Okoghiroh Endurance, 24; Gabriel Oche, 33; Ozioma Abajuo, 23; Endurance Edet, 27 and Ikechukwu Louis Amadi (aka Kapoon), 32. Also in the list were David Chinasa Ogboda, 30; Chigozie Evans Samuel, 22; T. Lucky Agburum and Abiodun Yusuf. The charge The accused persons faced a five-count charge, which included conspiracy and murder of the four victims. The offence is punishable under Sections 324 and 319 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Volume III laws of Rivers State, 1999. http://sunnewsonline.com/new/cover/aluu-four-one-year-after/ |

1st octer 1960(53yrs ago)Nigeria's flag was hoisted for the 1st time which signifies indepence and freedom from our colonial masters.Since then many regimes have come and gone;both millitary and democratic. The question is 'are we progressing or retrogressing?.well before now many leaders have tried to reposition Nigeria to where it belongs to among the committee of nations while others have failed woefully in this aspect. Nigeria is a country endowed with numerous resources;both human and natural resources A man born 53yrs ago by now should be the head of a family with wife and children while a woman of 53yrs,from medical point of view have reached menopause. But it seems that Nigeria @53 is still sucking breast. Nigeria is a very rich country but with poor people.which sectors in Nigeria have we recorded a giant strive;is it power, road, health or education. A great philosopher-Jean-Jacques Rousseau said that "Man is born free, and everywhere he is in chains. One man thinks himself the master of others, but remains more of a slave than they are".That is the case of Nigeria. As we are celebrating 53yrs of independence,we are also celebrating 3months of ASUU strike and 24% of unemployment rate. Nigeria;a place where everything is seen, taken and treated as politics.where our law makers are busy passing obnoxious bills(child marriage, abortion bill in imo state etc).where our laws makers smile home with millions of naira monthly while our proffessors hardly get upto 300,000 every month. Our youths are not left out in this mess,We are the architects of our problem,we allowed ourselves to be used for political cheap gains.NANS are busy accussing,counter-accussing,impeaching and appointing each other while our universities are under lock and key for 3months now. Arise O compatriots.Nigeria call obey.lets not allow the labour of our heroes past be in vain. God bless federal republic of Nigeria.

This write up is not meant to mislead or deceive anybody, but to unfold recent proceedings in Nigeria on and off political scene. There is a saying which says that''honesty is the best policy'',but is this applicable in Nigeria?, from the recent researches I made,it seems that this saying doesn't work in Naija, In 2009 FG negociated&granted amnesty to niger delta millitants who held Nigeria&its economy to ransom for years,FG agreed 2 be paying them till 2015&subsequently provide job for them.while we have law abiding unemployed graduates without hope.Recently one of the most wanted millitant kingpin then'TOMPOLO'bought a private jet whorth # 2.12b while many law abiding civil servants that have worked 4 several yrs barely afford a motocycle. Now FG is calling on bokoharam for round table discussion which wil subsequently amount 2 amnesty.Must one be stubborn b4 he gets his share from our national cake, bet me if FG succeed in giving boko boys amnesty, before 2015 another group wil pop up with their own agitation in a view of getting thier own share In Imo state now gov.Rochas Okorocha is planning to meet with criminals where they wil surrender dia guns&get job in return, but the same Okorocha was the one that sacked 10,000 youths that were legitimately employed by Ohakim with the claim that there is no vaccancy, now has he created one?,if yes, must criminals be the beneficiaries?. why must the obidient ones be at d receiving end of everything in Nigeria?. Last month a boy named''Daniel''from Edo state displayed his stubborness by travelling to Lagos through d tyre space of aeroplane, for his stubbornness he got scholarship upto university level.must one be a disobeying fellow before he gets his due in dis country?. Last time Mtn was updating dia sim registration,so they told those dat didn't finish dia registration to send some codes&get #400 in return, while those dat didn't register at all were told 2 register&get # 5000 whort of airtime in return. But the law abiding fellows that completed there registration on time as directed by NCC got nothing for being obedient. All these and other unprintable ones have been hapening in this country.what is really wrong with our nation?,the nation where rascals swim their way to the top. As we are planning to mark our 53rd anniversary, the earlier we get things right the better for us,the earlier we join the committee of nations in recognising equal right and justice the better for us. If you are among those that have been victim of circustances in Nigeria in one way or the other,I urge you to remain steadfast for Nigeria will never remain the same.God bless Nigeria |

LETTER TO IMSU Cc: His Excellency, Gov Rochas Okorocha IMO MUST BE BETTER We Imolites Agree To Disagree With The Slogan Stated Above. IF OUR EDUCATION CANNOT BE TAKEN SERIOUS AND ACADEMIC OFFICERS DECIDE TO TOSS WITH OUR FUTURE IN OUR OWN FATHER LAND Firstly, We Thank The Gov. (Rochas Okorocha) For His Efforts In Transforming The Educational Sector And Sponsoring Of Education Of Our Brothers Who Are already In The System. But Sir, All Your Efforts Might Face Apocalypse Of Irreversible State Soon. We Regret To Bring To Your Notice That IMSU Is Being Mismanaged By The So Called Administrative Officers Within The School; As in The Case Of An In-Experienced Potter And Clay Pot Making....... A Big Mess-Up Is In Sight. Recently, The 2013/14 Post Utme Examination Was Held On The 14, 15, 16th Of August. Unlike Other Schools Where The Results Are Released In a Space Of One Week (7Days) Sometimes in Less Than a Week...... But Because Of The Inexperience And FIASCO-ORIENTED Academic Officials Of IMSU, The Results Took 28Days ( a Month) To Be Released. Not To Talk Of The Stray Co-ordination Of Examination During The Exams. Without Mincing Words, I Will Say The Delay In Releasing The Results Was a Plan To Manipulate Students Results Which We Students Refer To As *ABRACADABRA From High Places*. The Results Were Released on The 11th Of September, In Confirmation That Imsu In being Mis-Managed, The Result Checking Website Was Not Accessible Stating **CHECK BACK LATER IN THE DAY** But When The Result Was Finally Released, Only a Few People Could Access Their Results. While It Was Stating Some Other Fallacious Grammar To Almost Half Of The Candidates Like (STUDENT RECORD NOT FOUND & YOUR RESULT CANNOT BE DISPLAYED). But The Amazing Part Of It all Was That Some Of These People Could Later Access Their Results Leaving a Good Number Of People In The Same Ocean Of Confusion Asking How And Why They Can't Access Their Results. Only Yesterday Over 200 Candidates Were In The School Premises (THE IT Center) To See If They Can Get a Helping Hand But To Our Greatest Surprise, The IT Center Coordinator Said that They Have all Failed And Called The Security Officers To Send All The Students Away. Only A Few Minutes Later, a Worker In The IT Center Came Out And Said (Who Told You People To Choose Imsu??) And Later Gave a Few Of Us a Scary Truth. **Quoting Him** (YOU PEOPLE DON'T KNOW WHAT WE SEE IN THIS SCHOOL, EVEN WHEN THE MARKING WAS GOING ON, SOME ANSWER SHEETS THAT WERE NOT MARKED FROM LAST YEAR's EXAM WERE FOUND AND THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO ABOUT IT) Surprise Gripped Us. Knowing Fully Well That Imsu Is Below The Standard Of a Tertiary Institution. My Question Is ; Is it a Crime To School In My Very Own Imo State? And Why Do Indigenes Fall Victim Of This Mis-hap? Or Is It Because Of The Free Education From The Governor? If It Is So, We Regret To Make It Known Today That We Are Not Interested In His Free Education. Or Is There Another System Of Politics Where People From Orlu (The Governor's Home Town) Have Decided To corner The Activities Of The School To Their Own Benefit? Since The VC Is From Orlu. The Spirits Of Our Founding Fathers Shall Weep If This Injustice Being Meted Out On True IMO Sons And Daughters Is Not Corrected. A Student's Result Is His Right. Even If He Failed, Show Him His Result. IMO State Government Are Fond Of Ignoring The Truth; But Please, hear Our Cry This Once. IMOLITES Take Note .....Forward This Until It Gets To The Appropriate People That Could Effect This Change We All Crave For. #Bless #Bruz_Enigma : 07034876123 http://myschool.com.ng/imsu/news/21742/controversy-letter-to-imsu-and-gov-rochas-okorocha-a-must-read.html |
THE breakaway of a faction has lifted the whole power play in the PDP party to a new crescendo. The stake is upped and each one is fighting for its own survival. The way the situation is now, it is either going to be a zero sum game, where the winner takes all or the loser crashes. In the alternative, a much more subdued PDP will emerge. The situation is already creating orgasmic reactions from the opposition parties. How did things get to this sorry pass? The seed has been sown right from the time of Gen Olusegun Obasanjo as president of the country. Arbitrariness was the order of the day. People were appointed and removed at the whims of those in authority. During Obasanjo’s tenure alone, the PDP had five chairmen of the party and five Senate presidents within eight years – indeed a world record. In the process, so many members were alienated. The same methods were used to impose Yar’Adua and Jonathan as president and vice president, respectively. Many of them, including Atiku, left for other parties. The short span of Yar’Adua’s reign did not allow us to assess the extent he would have gone in the use of presidential powers but a few people like El- Rufai and Nuhu Ribadu got a taste of it. Jonathan came as a gentleman, ready to compromise with everybody, unfortunately, already aggrieved members, having learnt their lessons under Obasanjo, plotted to regain control of the PDP. Jonathan does not have the military background and ruthlessness of Obasanjo and in attempting to use Obasanjo’s strategies to make the party toe the line, he is finding great resistance. That is the situation of the PDP. In a very simplistic manner, the problems of the PDP can be solved if all of the participants agree to subject themselves to a true democratic process, beginning from the state level. If the wishes of the PDP in terms of the majority are allowed to reign, then everybody can go to sleep. Unfortunately, this has not been possible –Anambra, Rivers, Adamawa – to mention but a few states, are still deadlocked on who their true representatives should be. Therefore, as the party cannot carry out genuine democratic elections within, the fight must go on. The battle is now between Jonathan and Atiku’s faction. Will Atiku succeed? Why is he – Atiku- still insisting on being a member of the PDP? What does he stand to gain? Will it not be better for him and acolytes to go and form a party of their own instead of the roforofo fight they are staging? Or is the whole thing just a gimmick to gain control of the ruling party, as that is where the juice is? Time will tell. There is no need over-flogging the issue that President Jonathan and his political strategists mismanaged the affairs of the Rivers State crises. A simple sincere face- to-face discussion with Amaechi would have put the whole thing to rest. Allowing the interest of the President’s wife to interfere with the interest of the party was a big mistake. Amaechi knows that his political survival is at stake if allowed to be bullied into submission; his political career will be over. He is, therefore, like a goat that has his back on the wall, he either wins it or lose everything. He has teamed up with the North whose politicians want the presidency to revert back to them. How will the PDP handle the issue of Amaechi? It is a sore thumb and must be delicately handled. It must be noted here that, if Amaechi is persuaded to revert back to Jonathan, the remaining governors will be from the North, it will then, become a North – South thing. Can Amaechi be prised away from the group? Amaechi, from his antecedents, is a very good political strategist. How will the Jonathan group appease him? We are reading from the papers that the elders of the PDP are meeting to find a solution to the whole crises. Where were these elders all these while? Why did they allow the situation to get this far? Was it in their interest to allow the crises to degenerate to prove their importance to the party? If they have not found solutions to the party crises all these while, how can they do so now? Do they belong to factions in the PDP? The elders will have to clarify their stand and unless they tackle these issues sincerely, no headway will come out of it. Basically, the whole thing is a chess game. According to a Chinese proverb: “No one walks out of his home without a purpose”. What do the rebellious governors want? Sule Lamido’s ambition to be president has been in the grapevine for some time now, prodded by his principal, Olusegun Obasanjo. It got to a stage that Jonathan was addressing his state of the nation gathering at Abuja, while Lamido was organising a parallel function in his state. Indeed, it is inferred in some quarters that the money laundering charge against his son was an attempt to rein him in and discourage his presidential ambition. Governor Aliyu has never been tied to one position; he started this flirtation during the last presidential election. Today he is for Jonathan; tomorrow he is pursuing the interest of the opposition. What manner of man will dine with Mr President tonight and tomorrow declare for a faction opposing him. What does Aliyu want? As we know, he has never been one of the PDP governors complaining of marginalisation; whose interest is he serving? He should take a stand and remain with it. Rabiu Kwankwaso also has not declared his grouse. Does he want to contest as a Northern presidential candidate or he is being loyal to Atiku Abubakar? The case of the Kwara State governor is understandable; anywhere Bukola Saraki pitches his tent, there will he be. The EFCC has been hounding Saraki for some time now because of his role in the demise of the defunct Societe General Bank, he is fighting through the opposition faction. All the other governors are aligned one way or the other to the Northern presidency movement. What should Jonathan do? Is he capable of bringing discipline to the party? If he chooses to confront the opposition headlong, will such action not destroy the party? Seven state governors and a sizeable number of senators is a strong force that cannot be under-estimated. My take is that everyone should come to the table with a sincere motive for peace in the party. From the actions of Atiku and his gang, the purpose is to regain control of the party mechanism like the PDM of yore. Controlling the party means being in charge of deciding candidates that will stand for the elections and invariably, if they win – control the government. If the Atiku gang are not satisfied with the running of the PDP like they claim, they should exit the party and not heat up the polity as a result. In fact, it will not be the first time that Atiku will leave the party, if he decides to do so now, he has been going and coming. On the part of the President, he should – by all means – do everything possible to restore the confidence of the people. Imposition of candidates and the likes should be avoided. Sort out the Amaechi issue and for once, let us see the real Commander-in-Chief in him. * Mr. Ikhioya, a commentator on national issues, wrote from Lagos http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/09/the-new-pdp-npdp-and-their-chances-2/ |

No agreement was reached at the meeting. The Monday meeting between striking university lecturers and the federal government ended without a resolution of the crisis. The meeting, which held at the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, was attended by the Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala; Minister of Labour, Emeka Nwogwu; Minister of Education, Rukayyatu Rufai; and the Benue State Governor and head of the government’s delegation, Gabriel Suswam. The lecturers’ union, ASUU, was led by the President of the union, Nasiru Fagge. The meeting lasted for over four hours (from 3:p.m.to about 7:15p.m). IT seems an end to the prolonged strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) may be called off as the body and the Federal Government have come to a reasonable agreement. Rising from a three-hour closed-door meeting held at the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Friday, both parties achieved reasonable success in the negotiation as all issues except two were agreed on. The Secretary to the Federal Government (SGF), Anyim Pius Anyim was at the head of the FG team along with the Education and Labour Ministers while ASUU’s team was led by its President, Dr Nasir Isa Fagge. Briefing journalists afterwards, the Chairman, University Needs Implementation Committee, Gabriel Suswam said, “we agreed on all major issues except the issues of funding of the Universities or rather intervention and then the allowance of the University Lecturers. We believe that by next week the other issues would be resolved. Then, ASUU would probably call off the strike.” The Benue State Governor added that the SGF is meeting on the issue of earn allowance on Monday while his committee, which is dealing with the Needs assessment implementation, would be meeting on Thursday to assess all the infrastructural deficits in the Universities. “We are involving all the agencies that fund theuniversities - the CBN and all others. As soon as the two issues are resolved, we believe that the strike would be called off. “The issues of retirement age, setting up a pension administrator, setting up of budget monitoring unit, persuading companies to set up research centres, among others, have being agreed on,” Suswam said. “We agreed that all the funding agencies would meet on Thursday and we chart a way forward,” he noted. Although the Chairman of ASUU refused to speak to the press in an obvious show of dissatisfaction, a source within ASUU said they did not expect the Federal Government to bring all the cards on the table at once so they are still keeping their fingers crossed for next week when their demands would be exhaustively tackled. “For now, the strike continues indefinitely,” the source said. Earlier, in a bid to put up appropriate conditions necessary for academics in all tertiaryinstitutions in Nigeria, the Federal Government has inaugurated the Universities Needs Implementation Committee, with a mandate to prioritise requisite exigencies. At the inauguration yesterday in Abuja, the SGF, Anyim Pius Anyim said the major needs of all Federal Universities where identified by an assessment committee earlier set up to assess and prioritise the needs of universities.” He said the report submitted by the Needs assessment Committee mandates the inaugurated Committee to “interface with all agencies providing funding support to the universities with the aim of appropriately channeling support to identified priorities.” “Simulate private sector investment into the public universities, monitor progress of the projects implementation and produce quarterly report for submission to the federal government and, intervention in any other matter that may be necessary to achieve the purpose of the Needs Assessment,” he added. This mandate stemmed from the observations earlier carried out, which noted that various countries fund tertiary institutions through varying approaches, some through budgetary allocations, non-budgetary interventions or private sector donations. It would be recalled that the Federal Government set up the Need Assessment Committee to revitalise the physical infrastructure in the universities, with the aim of enhancing the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) base of the universities Source: http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/index.php/national-news/128266-fg-ASUU-meet-may-call-off-strike-next-week- |
