After 2 months of taking the shot, I attracted lots of audiences to the extent I landed a 6 digit freelance writing contract (though that was not my aim, but at least it brought me money and still brings). Okay, this is just 4 months in total using the formula that I got this result.

Eight months into the game, that was when I made my 6 digits from following the formula aside my freelance writing job. I made ₦122,000 at the end of the eight months.

Building your online present is essential for branding yourself as a freelance writer. If you don’t have a blog, it is of no use how good you are as a writer.

One of the reason client want to visit your blog is so they can check out your writing. Your blog is your portfolio where you are to fill great samples for your client to see. You need to have a blog if you want to be seen as a professional writer. Whether the blog is beautiful or not, what clients are interested in is the write-up.

As a writer with a blog, you need to create good post on your blog, do not rush this process. Sit down and create samples that show your expertise. Your client might just visit your blog and will be surprised to see that you have written an article on a topic he or she needs.

3. Cold Pitching
As a freelance writer, you should have the confident to pitch blog editors for a gig. I know everyone hate rejection so we just prefer client coming to us to negotiate, but what of if it is taking long for them to come because they are so busy with other things but not welcoming new writers?

The highest you can get is no, but it is worth giving a try. Be clear and concise, and use a great title/subject in your pitch email. It is the first thing editors see before they will think of clicking through to read your message.

If you don’t know whether they need a freelance writer, kindly ask if they do use the services of a freelance writer and you are available for them. Drop links to your samples or a link to your ‘Hire Me’ page which should contain your portfolio of guest posts.

4. Choose a Specialty and Stick to It
You may be thinking that to actually make money as a freelance writer you just have to be a good writer right? You are definitely wrong, being a good writer is what you should before you should even call yourself a writer.

Why am I able to charge client at a high rate and yet they still pay me for my writing services? It is just in one word, ‘Specialize’. When you specialize in a niche, you gain more experience in that niche. This makes you authority writing on that niche and enables you to charge more because client knows that they are working with an authority with lot of experience.

Client will gladly pay you generously to write for them because they know that your writing is from a place of authority.

5. Learn from a Proven Mentors
You must have known people who are already where you want to be in terms of becoming a highly paid writer. You need to get close to those people, the social media has made every closer with each other with just a few clicks.

Subscribe to their newsletter, join their Facebook groups, like their page. Just hang around them and if you have the finance, enroll in their coaching course if they have any or just meet them and tell them you will like them to mentor you.

It is faster if you have someone who will show you the way and teach you what you need to know to avoid you travelling a long journey to arrive in a destination that should have taken you just a step with a mentor.

HOW I TURNED MY HUSTLE INTO A FULL-TIME JOB (AND HOW YOU TOO CAN)

Just over a year ago, I was sitting at a full-time job, wondering how I will ever escape. I was stressed out, overworked and no free time for myself. I forgot to say this, ‘UNDERPAID’

Today?

I am running my freelance writing business right from my bed and dining table. I make my own work schedule, pick my own clients, and only take on project I enjoy.

Do you understand how precious that is? For a guy who could not quit his underpaid job because he had no choice to living financially free making 5 figures weekly working with just a laptop, smart phone and an internet connection.

Today, I’m going to walk you through what I did and how I did it.

I wrote this post because I want you to understand that it is 100% possible to make a full-time income as an online entrepreneur or a freelance writer without begging for writing gigs.

So, give it a read, and steal my strategies to start finding more clients and making more money writing. This post is not only for freelance writers, it is for bloggers, digital marketers, network marketers and any online entrepreneur.

Well, let me tell you a little of my story…

First Things You Should Know about My Freelance Journey

I ventured into freelance writing because I needed a second stream of income while working at my full-time job and I was broke too.
I started writing for clients with my phone (I had no laptop). I was using Tecno M3 and also I had no blog, no samples.
It was when my first client saw my Facebook timeline and Facebook Note (that was my blog) he agreed to hire me.

I started writing for ₦250 per 450+ words blog post. I even wrote three articles that were published and not paid for because the blogger told me that the style of content was not fit for his blog, and yet he published it.

Lets forget all those stories before I will start crying!

My point is, you don’t need to have any experience, a blog, a laptop but the will to start with hard work, determination and dedication. Who say it will be easy? But it is worth it if you know where you are going.

How I Built my Freelance Writing Business

1. Get my First Paying Client
The first thing I did was get a paying client no matter what. I started looking for bloggers on my Facebook friends list.
I did not advertise my writing services on my timeline. I edited my Facebook and twitter profile account to display that I am a writer.
I started writing ‘Facebook Note’ and two guest post on one newbie’s blog so my name could be written under the article not actually for any promotion or backlink.

After I contacted one blogger, he asked me for samples. I shared the links to all my Facebook Note with him and the 2 guest post I did.
After viewing it, he gave me 5 topics for a start to write for him. I delivered, he paid. He gave me 10 more topics, I delivered, and he paid again.

That was when we signed a contract for 40 topics and he paid for the 40 topics even before I started writing them.

2. Take a Coaching Course
You cannot do it on your own whether you want to become a blogger, internet marketer or a trainer. When I got tired of writing for peanut fees, I had no choice but to go for help! I started taking coaching courses both free and paid on how I can top up my game and become a highly paid writer.

I shun reading international freelance writing blogs because what works there, don’t work here. I wanted to focus in the Nigeria market because I know many writers that are making five figures monthly creating content for client in Nigeria.
I took a coaching class and still take, and it really helped me.

3. Guest Posting
Have you heard of that before? As a blogger, you need to guest post on authority sites to get traffic.
I started searching for blogs on my niche so I can guest post. I selectively pick a few based on what I wanted. Through guest posting, I got new clients who saw my write-up and wanted to work with me.

Today, I am living my dream life, working from home. I don’t even go looking for client again, they come to me and stay with me.

You want to quit your job and become a professional blogger?

You want to become a well-paid writer?
You can.
You want to be able to live life at your own terms?

Because listen…I know it is a horrible cliché, but if I can quit my job, created content with my phone because I could not afford a laptop, use Facebook to showcase my work because I couldn’t still afford a blog and today make enough money to single handedly sponsor my mother business, buy into two big investment, sponsoring myself through Higher Diploma program and make money not to be a subject at home, then what can you accomplish if you set your mind to do it?

My guess: Pretty much anything.

No, it won’t be easy. At some point, I guarantee you’ll want to quit. I guarantee people will treat you like you’re insane. I guarantee you’ll cry yourself to sleep, wondering if you made a horrible mistake. Do you know how it feels with your eyes looking at the screen for hours?
But never stop believing in yourself, people will tell you why you should not go that way you want to go now. Our job isn’t to join that group, but to silence it.

1. An internet connection which can be any smart phone like blackberry, Android, tablet. I personally use Android.
I spend 90% of my time on my phone than laptop. I only use my laptop when I want to prepare a course or write a business plan for clients.
I conduct my trainings using my Android phone.
2. Passion(I have discussed a lot on that before)
3. A bank account(did you just smile?)
4. Brain(very vital). Don’t get me wrong. I did not say #head, I said #brain.

It was on a Sunday morning, I think it was last year while one of my pastor in church was preaching. He made a statement that touched me.
