•We have court order to hold him for 3 months — POLICE •He’s innocent until proved guilty by court — LAWYER By Abdulwahab Abdulah LAGOS — Kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike a.k.a. Evans, has dragged the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris and three others before the Federal High Court in Lagos over alleged illegal detention. EVANS Joined as respondents in the suit are the Nigeria Police Force, Commissioner of Police, Lagos State and the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, Lagos State Police Command. In the rights enforcement suit filed on his behalf by a Lagos-based lawyer, Olukoya Ogungbeje, Evans is praying for the order of court to direct the respondents to immediately charge him to court if there is any case against him in accordance with Sections 35 (1) (c) (3) (4) (5) (a) (b) and 36 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. In the alternative, he is praying the court to compel the respondents to immediately release him unconditionally in the absence of any offence that will warrant his being charged to court. Evans is further contending in the suit that his continued detention by the respondents since June 10, 2017, without being charged to court or released on bail is an infringement on his fundamental human rights. He argued that the respondents ought to have charged him to court in accordance with the provisions of Sections 35 and 36 of the Constitution. It was further argued that the alleged offence committed by the applicant (Evans) are correspondingly intertwined with the constitutional safeguards as provided under Sections 35 and 36 of the Constitution. Evans’ dad deposes to affidavit in son’s support To support Evans’ case, his father, Stephen Onwuamadike personally deposed to a 27-paragraph affidavit in support of the suit. In his affidavit, Evans’ father averred that his son (applicant) has been subjected to media trial without any court order by the respondents. He further averred that the media trial and news orchestrated by the respondents have continued to generate reactions in both print and electronic media without his son being afforded fair hearing and trial before a court of law. He added that since his son’s arrest, all his family members have been denied access to him while media practitioners have been granted unfettered access to him. The matter has not been assigned to any judge and no date has been fixed for the hearing. We have court order to hold him for 3 months — Police Meanwhile, reacting to the suit, spokesman for the Police High Command, Jimoh Moshood said that the Police had obtained a court order from a Federal High Court, Abuja, to detain Evans for three months, in order to allow them carry out proper investigation on the suspect. The investigation, according to the police will take operatives to Ghana, South Africa and many parts of the country before he could be arraigned. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Administration, in the Lagos Command, Dasuki Galandanci had told journalists last Friday that the Police is in the midst of a thorough investigation on Evans. He said: “Evans has been a kidnapper for a long time and has been on the wanted list of the Police in Anambra, Abuja, Enugu, Edo and Lagos States. He also has a criminal gang, some of whom have been arrested in Enugu and Lagos. “But there are still more out there. Therefore, this needs a painstaking investigation. Besides, we need to understudy him as well as debrief him properly. By so doing, we intend to use his tactics to get others. He will eventually be charged to court after investigation is concluded.” ‘He is innocent before the law until proved guilty’ Also, reacting to Evans suit, a lawyer and Don, Gbenga Ojo, said, “It may surprise Nigerians that he had to approach the court, however, in the eyes of the law, he is presumed innocent until pronounced guilty by a competent court. However, as it is, I don’t think any court will grant him bail considering the allegations levelled against him. “It is the same law that gives him fundamental human rights to seek redress in court that provides that no one can kill other persons unlawfully or kidnap and subject victims to unbearable conditions. So, the court will look at all these before considering to do anything. In my opinion, no court will allow such application to fly. “However, if the prosecution is not ready to arraign him now due to their investigation, they should take him to the magistrate court to get a remand order, pending the conclusion of their investigation.” Read more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/06/evans-sues-police-says-charge-free-dad-files-27-point-affidavit-support/

SEX IS FOOD!!! A must read... Sex is not all about making children. You must be a different woman to your husband every time. Seduce your husband, don't always allow your husband to ask for Sex, there must be no timetable for sex. Be creative, don't be predictable. Give him what he wants. If you loose influence over your husband, you have lost womanhood. Be part of your husband plans. Don't have too many children, you wanna sell them ? Allow your husband to check in and out anytime. When a man is sexually satisfied, he is emotionally stable. Stop saying, is it food ? Yes, sex is food !!! As a wife, try to invest in yourself spiritually so you can adequately support him. Build yourself as his prayer warrior so that you will not be forced to pray at the end of your life. Don't allow your husband to provide all your needs, he is not a money making machine. Iron sharpens iron, try to reciprocate. You are meant to support each other spiritually, financially, physically and morally through thick and thin. You are a builder....Wise woman buildeth her home. Women need wisdom to build their homes. Do not be too outspoken, know when to talk, when to listen and when to be quiet. Love your husband with all your heart, never tell him, if not because of my children, remember you've known him before the arrival of those children. Pamper your husband, put his head on your chest and pray for him. Give him unannounced kiss from the back.... mwahhhhhh, don't be too holy to kiss in the public. He is your husband for God sake. Be romantic joooo, it is good for the heart. Some people are not happy that you're happy in that marriage, proof them wrong that you love him and he is your crown, always feel good when you hold him. Don't look 50 while you're still under 40, it drives men crazy. Always keep fit regardless of your age or body. To men: Do not take a woman who does all these for granted! Pamper her, pray for her, cherish her, love her, support her financially, make her feel like your woman! God bless you and your marriages. Like this page for more.

The young boy who is a student of Maryland
Convent Private School dished out unbelievable
reasons why he thinks Nigerian leaders should be
blamed for corruption. Read the translated
version of the audio below:
THe young boy
”Goodday the chairperson, panel of judges, my co-
debaters and my esteemed audience. All protocols
are duly observed. Maryland convent private
school. I stand here with an unshakable mind to
support the motion which says: ‘Leaders are
responsible for corruption in our country’. Before i
proceed, I will like to define the word corruption
according to an English dictionary.

”Corruption is a dishonest behaviour by politicians
or people who work for the government. Our
leaders are living a flamboyant life. Do you know
that all the newly produced goods like vehicles,
clothes, jewelries and shoes to mention a few are
first seen with our leaders no matter the cost.
Interestingly, they also have wardrobe allowance,
vacation allowance and many other allowances.
Hnmm, why not sleeping allowance too?

”They have forgotten the citizens they made
millions promises to before assuming the
unmerited office. Some even keep updating their

supposed to be occupied by their grandchildren,
thereby breeding unemployment. I hope that I have
been able to convince you that it is our leaders
who should be blamed for corruption in our
country. I still maintain that leaders are
responsible for corruption in this country.

”My fellow citizens, have you ever been opportune
to listen to news on televisions ? Where our
leaders at the national assembly engage in fighting
and punching themselves over bags of money and
contracts instead of addressing the problems of
our country. Nigeria! What a country. Buying
leadership and denying us of the dividends that
our past heroes have acquired for us. Please, our
leaders, drop down self centeredness and bring
back our country’s glory. Certainly, if our leaders
were good, the followers must be good too, thank
you!” |

Editor’s note: An invitation by the Economic and
Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is not your
regular appointment. It is one that sends spasm
through the body of the invitee as a visit to the
office of the anti-graft agency is a visit that has the
ability change the course of a person’s destination.
The EFCC under President Muhammadu Buhari is
becoming notorious for its ruthless way of
handling cases of financial corruption. The
appointment of Ibrahim Magu by President
Buhari to replace Ibrahim Lamorde who was
enshrouded in corruption-related cases was a
clear sign of serious business and this was
predictable considering Buhari was elected as
president on the expectation that he would deal
with the menace.
People who understand and know Buhari’s
stance on the issue of corruption and possibly
have skeletons in their cupboards already fled
the country around the time Buhari was sworn in
as president. Ask Diezani Madueke, the former
minister of petroleum who reportedly travelled to
London on the same flight with Buhari. There
were reports that she used the opportunity to try
a last minute attempt to verbally clear herself to
the president-elect but it was reported that
Buhari turned his attention to something else.
She has not returned to Nigeria since then and
has been linked to a lot of financial
mismanagement.
If you get an invitation from the EFCC, here are
10 things to expect
You are likely guilty
An invitation by the EFCC is unofficially a sign
that you are guilty of financial crime. Legally, a
court has to decide if a person is guilty of a
crime or not which makes every accused
innocent until proven otherwise by a court.
However, Magu has assured that anyone arrested
by the anti-graft agency is likely not to come out
clean
because proper and extensive investigation
would have been carried out before such
invitation. What this means is that an invitation
by the EFCC means there is a higher chance
that you have committed financial; crime.
You’re not going home soon
Ask Femi Fani-Kayode and he will tell you a visit
to the office of the EFCC is a long one. The
office might be in Abuja or Lagos but it’s
advisable you pack like you’re travelling to
Australia. Fani-Kayode probably thought he
would be questioned and be out of the anti-graft
agency in a few hours but it soon became a long
stay that turned into days and then weeks. Ask
Olisa Metuh why he grew a beard while being
held by the EFCC and he’ll probably tell you he
didn’t know he was going to be there for a long
time. What transpires during that period is not
known but it will go a long way in shaping the
case.
EFCC may storm your house
An invitation from EFCC is likely going to be
followed by fierce-looking operatives storming
your house and retrieving what might be
considered intelligence that will later be used
against you. The house is likely going to be
sealed for as long as the operatives deem
necessary so if you need to take any valuables
out, it’s better to do it quick.
Start thinking about Kuje prison
Kuje prison in Abuja is fast becoming the home
or interim apartment of people facing trial from
the EFCC and if you land in the net of the anti-
graft agency, you need to start finding out what
living in Kuje is like. High profile persons like
Raymond Dokpesi and Metuh have spent nights
in the prison and the experience seems far from
exciting.
You’re going to fall sick
Diezani before and after.
Any tussle with the EFCC is likely going to leave
you bruised if you eventually make it out. Many
high profile Nigerians who have had tussles with
the EFCC appear in court sick
or ask the court to grant then time to treat
themselves for strange ailments that didn’t occur
during the period when they were reportedly
spending their loot. The very vocal Metuh came
to court and vomited, Sambo Dasuki claims he
has cancer; Haliru Bello Mohammed appeared in
court in a wheelchair, Kingsley Kuku fled to the
US and sent pictures of himself in crutches while
Diezani also shared pictures of herself looking
cancer-stricken. Whether the sicknesses are real
or not is a discussion for another day but you
can bet sickness is one issue that can’t be far
away from the case.
If your lawyers are smart, EFCC is smarter
If you think the eloquence and SANship of your
lawyers is enough to sidestep EFCC, then think
again. The EFCC under Buhari has shown its
ruthlessness in dealing with court issues so that
when a court order keeps you for two weeks,
they are ready to activate another court order
that will keep in under for another period. If a
court grants you bail, another court is ready to
keep you tied down for two weeks. Don’t rejoice
yet if you get a bail as the anti-graft agency has
aces up its sleeve.
You might be related to Dasuki or Diezani
The anti-corruption crusade in the present
administration has focused on the
misappropriation of arms deal and petroleum
fund and Dasuki and Diezani were in charge of
both respectively. Many persons who received
money from the duo have either been arrested or
are under the scrutiny of the anti-graft agency.
Dasuki was accused of mismanaging fund meant
for the purchase of arms especially at a time the
country is facing terrorist attack while Diezani
reportedly used petroleum money to campaign
for the re-election of Jonathan. If you are related
to either of the two, you might need to fact-
check your sources of fund.
You may return some money
One thing the EFCC is interested in if the
recovery of fund or loot and returning it is one
way to save yourself from passing nights at the
EFCC office. If you have not exhausted the
entire fund with you, it is better you return it. If
you have, then you should start preparing your
defence. Before you make any choice, you may
want to ask those who have been there before.
You’re going to blame Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari
Of course there is no way you will engage in a
tussle with the EFCC without seeing President
Buhari as the architect of your woes. It’s also a
sort of mental cleansing so its fine to blame
Buhari. You can almost bet that if Buhari was
not president, the issue of corruption might not
be considered a big deal and you won’t be facing
charges from the EFCC.
Your life will never remain the same
Whether you come out guilty or innocent (which
is unlikely) from your tussle with the EFCC, your
life will never remain the same. It’s going to be a
bumpy ride full of media prosecution (or
persecution). Some of your friends will desert
you (ask Dasuki) while your life might come to a
standstill (ask Fani-Kayode) while you struggle to
untangle yourself from the crises EFCC has
thrown you into. You might end up being less of
a talkative (ask Metuh) and embrace the
altruistic fight against corruption. |

the soldiers have returned to traditional

though I am not sure of the exact number.”
Another security source who was surprised over
the presence of the military added: “ There is
nothing wrong in soldiers going back to Oporoza if
they got more intelligence information on the
perpetrators and their modus operandi.”
The troops searched the Oporoza Guesthouse,
which they ransacked earlier and other strategic
places.
Chief Godspower Gbenekama, Ijaw leader, also
confirmed to Vanguard that soldiers raided
Oporoza earlier today, but at about 7.57 am,
another leader from the area, Piniki Azaiye, said:

NO fewer than 16 persons were feared dead in
cult war supremacy in Ikwerre and Etche Local
Government Areas of Rivers State.
Sunday Sun gathered that armed men on Friday
night invaded Omuoda, Omuigwe, Omuahunwo
and Omuchiolu communities in Ikwerre Local
Government Area, where about 14 persons,
including a nursing mother and baby were shot
death. Sources from the Aluu town in Ikwerre Lo
cal Government and some of the affected
communities said houses were razed by the
armed invaders and people have fled the place
for fear of reprisal attack.
According to sources, people now live in fear, as
the supremacy cult battle between Icelanders
and Degbam rages on.
Yesterday, security operatives were on red alert
in readiness for any eventuality in Aluu
communities. A community source, who did not
want his name in print for fear of attack,
confirmed that the clash was between Degbam
and Iceland. In the ensuing encounter, he said,
14 people lost their lives, while some escaped
with bullet wounds.
He said many people had deserted the
community because of the threat of reprisal
attack by the rival group.
In a related development, two other persons
were also allegedly killed in a separate cult clash
in Obite community in Etche Local Government
Area of the state. A source, who witnessed the
heavy shooting, said the cult group invaded the
community at about 9 pm, destroyed and looted
people’s property.
One of the deceased victims was said to have
been shot dead as a result of mistaken identity,
as the group took him for the chief security
officer of the community.
At the time of filing the report, the state police
command was yet to confirm the incident. |
…Send 8,000 workers into labour market
By EMEKA OKOROANYANWU and BLAISE UDUNZE
NIGERIAN banks are in the news again, and for
the wrong reasons. Last week, two banks,
Ecobank and Diamond Bank sacked over 1060
staff citing economic downturn as reason for the
cut.The recent sack has increased the number
so far chopped off from the salary block in the
industry since one year ago to about 8,500.
Before Ecobank and Diamond bank which
recently sacked 200, First City Monument Bank
(FCMB) had laid off 700 workers earlier in the
year while Fidelity Bank sacked 100 late last
year. FBN Holdings, the parent company of First
Bank of Nigeria Limited, recently said it would
prune the number of its employees by 1,000.
While Ecobank has allegedly closed down its 100
branches in Nigeria, some other banks are said
to be planning to cut down the size of their
workforce. Many are wondering why Nigerian
banks are so hard hit by the prevailing economic
situation in the country?
The problem of the banks is hydra-headed. The
economy at present is faced with weakening oil
sector which has seen the reduction in earnings.
This, coupled with the implementation of the
Treasury Single Account (TSA), which has
reduced drastically the take home of many
banks; the foreign exchange crisis, inflation,
abolition of commissions on turnover (COT) and
other economic headwinds, have dragged the
banks into unplanned financial crisis. For one,
the Nigerian banking industry is heavily exposed
to the oil and gas sector, which contributes over
70 percent of government revenue and 90
percent of all exports.
With the fall in global oil prices by nearly 60
percent from $115per barrel to about $44 per
barrel in the past 23 months, thus resulting in
lower government revenues, and thereby
decreasing banks’ takes. With a high level of
exposure to the oil and gas sector, which
unfortunately is facing a sustained period of low
oil prices, non-performing loans in Nigerian banks
have reached alarming proportions. This has
continued to significantly lower banks’ revenue
and profits especially in 2016.
TSA implementation
Again, the implementation of the Single Treasury
Account (TSA) by the Federal Government
presented additional challenge to banks. With the
introduction of the TSA, about N2.9 trillion of
government funds were withdrawn from the
banks and moved into the Central Banks of
Nigeria (CBN) vaults. This sudden withdraw
caught the banks napping as over the years,
they have been beneficiaries of cheap federal
government deposits.
Full abolition of COT
Nigerian banks are also faced with significant
pressure from the abolition of commissions on
turnover (COT), which came into force on
January 1 this year. COT alone contributes over
60 percent of the fees and commissions of
banks. Thus, Nigerian banks are losing about
N100 billion (out of N550 billion) in annual
revenues as a result of the
implementation of the zero COT policy. Instead
of COT, the CBN directed banks to introduce a
“negotiable” current account maintenance fee to
replace the Commission On Turnover (COT). In a
circular issued to banks, the apex bank directed
banks to charge a fee not exceeding N1 per
N1,000 in respect of all “customer induced debit
transactions. The directive is targeted at easing
the pressure on Nigerian banks. But how far this
has been achieved is still under conjecture.
Arrest of bank MDs
To complicate the woes of the banks, the
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission
(EFCC) has recently beamed its searchlight on
Nigerian banks, leading to the arrest of some
bank managing directors. The arrest was based
on the allegation that they helped the past
administration launder public funds of over $
115m into private pockets. As a result, some
banks were forced to return some undisclosed
amounts of money to the federal government.
This has further depleted their purses.
Hope for recovery of the banking system
Despite these threats facing Nigerian banks this
year, it is widely expected that they will weather
the storm and grow much stronger. During her
visit to Nigeria, Christine Lagarde, the Managing
Director of the International Monetary Fund,
admitted that the Nigerian banks are generally
well-capitalized and more resilient” compared
with the period of the global financial crisis in
2008/2009 that resulted in several bank failures
around the world.
The optimism derives from the growth outlook of
the Nigerian economy. From 3.8 per cent GDP
growth of 2015, Nigeria is expected to grow by
4.2 per cent this year. This growth outlook is
expected to improve business confidence in
Nigeria and boost the performance of the
banking sector. Additional source of optimism for
the banks is the active role they would play in
financing the deficit of the federal budget.
President Muhammadu Buhari plans to finance
half of the N2.2 trillion budget deficit through
domestic bonds.
While the growth outlook for the Nigerian
economy and that of the banks are predicated
on the non-oil sectors activities, a dramatic
improvement in the outlooks could come about if
oil price makes unexpected, strong rebound in
the course of the year. This would help
strengthen the naira and support the exchange
rate, which has partly made foreign portfolio
investors to remain on the sidelines of investing
in Nigeria.
Head of Research at Afrinvest, Ayodeji Ebo, has
recently noted that the banking sector is on the
path of recovery especially in the light of the
policy pronouncement by the Minster of State for
Petroleum Resources on the liberalization of the
Petroleum Downstream sector.
According to him, there is a need for a
complementary policy from the Monetary
Authority, particularly in terms of foreign
exchange administration. |

Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives
Congress (APC) rode on the back of the support
Nigerians gave them to emerge victorious at the
2015 presidential elections.
Using the slogan ‘Change’ that resonated round
the nation, the APC presented Muhammadu
Buhari (now president) as its presidential
candidate.
Buhari’s antecedent as an upright and
incorruptible individual also helped in boosting
the image of the APC during the electioneering
period.
The recent removal of petroleum subsidies by
the Buhari government
which triggered the increase of a litre of fuel
from N87 to N145, that also culminated in the
ongoing nationwide strike declared by the Nigeria
Labour Congress (NLC),
has shown that the APC and President Buhari
might lose the confidence Nigerians reposed on
them before the 2015 elections.
After the declaration by the government, many
Nigerians lambasted the party and the president
for lying to them during the electioneering period
and making campaign promises which they say
has now been reversed or denied.

The national leadership of the APC has since
declared its support for the Buhari government
for its move, ending the hope of some Nigerians
who expected the party to put pressure on the
president to drop the idea.
NAIJ.com has compiled five photos that are
targeted towards the APC as the nationwide
protest continues.

hear. It’s not fair. I’m a human being too.”
“I am limping right now, because I have
stroke. I am limping because my people don’t
care. I’m limping because the industry is
