Chinese tech giant Tencent has warned that not all cyber attacks focus on data theft. Sometimes the intent is “to achieve destruction of the physical world through digital means.” The company’s researchers have just disclosed a serious new vulnerability in many of the mass-market fast chargers now used around the world. When you connect your device to a fast charger with a USB cable, there is a negotiation between the two, establishing the most powerful charge the device can safely handle. This negotiation is managed between the firmware on the device and the firmware on the charger, and assumes both will play nicely with one another. But Tencent’s researchers have now proven that a compromised charger can override this negotiation, pushing more power down the cable than the device can safely handle, likely destroying the device and potentially even setting it on fire. As one of the most cultivated and consumed fruits in the world, apples are continuously being praised as a “miracle food”. In fact, apples were ranked first in Medical News Today’s featured article about the top 10 healthy foods. Apples are extremely rich in important antioxidants, flavanoids, and dietary fiber. The phytonutrients and antioxidants in apples may help reduce the risk of developing cancer, hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease. This article provides a nutritional profile of the fruit and its possible health benefits. It also discusses the possible risks and precautions and some frequently asked questions. applesPossible health benefits of apples A collection of research studies suggests that apples may well be one of the most healthy foods for you to include in your daily diet. Let’s take a look at the studies and the possible health benefits suggested by them: 1) Improving neurological health A 2006 study published in the journal Experimental Biology and Medicine found that quercetin (one of the antioxidants found abundantly in apples) was one of two compounds that helped to reduce cellular death that is caused by oxidation and inflammation of neurons. 8 Another study presented at the same conference and published in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease suggested that apple juice consumption may increase the production in the brain of the essential neurotransmitter acetylcholine, resulting in improved memory among mice who have Alzheimer’s-like symptoms. 8 It should be noted that both studies were funded by unrestricted grants provided by the U.S. Apple Association and Apple Products Research and Education Council. 2) Preventing dementia A study published in the Journal of Food Science in 2008 suggested that eating apples may have benefit for your neurological health. The researchers found that including apples in your daily diet may protect neuron cells against oxidative stress-induced neurotoxicity and may play an important role in reducing the risk of neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease. 3) Reducing your risk of stroke A study involving 9,208 men and women showed that those who ate the most apples over a 28-year period had the lowest risk for stroke. The researchers concluded that the intake of apples is related to a decreased risk of thrombotic stroke.4 4) Lowering levels of bad cholesterol A group of researchers at The Florida State University stated that apples are a “miracle fruit”. They found that older women who ate apples everyday had 23% less bad cholesterol (LDL) and 4% more good cholesterol (HDL) after just six months. 5) Reducing your risk of diabetes Apples could also help lower your risk of diabetes. A study involving 187,382 people found that people who ate three servings per week of apples, grapes, raisins, blueberries or pears had a 7% lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes compared to those who did not. 6) Warding off breast cancer There is growing evidence suggesting that an apple a day may help prevent breast cancer, according to a series of studies conducted by prominent Cornell researcher Rui Hai Liu. Liu said her research adds to “the growing evidence that increased consumption of fruits and vegetables, including apples, would provide consumers with more phenolics, which are proving to have important health benefits. I would encourage consumers to eat more and a wide variety of fruits and vegetables daily.” 7) Obesity In a study published in the journal Food Chemistry in 2014, a team of researchers analyzed how the bioactive compounds of seven different varieties of apples – Granny Smith, Braeburn, Fuji, Gala, Golden Delicious, McIntosh and Red Delicious – affected the good gut bacteria of diet-induced obese mice. The researchers found that, compared with all other apple varieties, Granny Smiths appeared to have the most beneficial effect on good gut bacteria. They suggest that their findings may lead to strategies that prevent obesity and its associated disorders. Nigerians have been finding it difficult to access mortgage facilities for buying or building their own properties for several reasons. Apart from the fact that collaterals for getting such mortgages are far fetched, regulatory bodies have not deemed it right to moderate it for the benefit of the low income earners. Also, mortgage facility can only work when a percentage of one’s income can pay the mortgage. So that tells one the kind of house he can afford. So if, for instance, one earns N20,000 a month as a low income earner, in a year he will earn N240,000. The maximum he can contribute is 30 per cent of that income to housing. If he is going to contribute 10 per cent of N240,000, then we are talking of N72,000 a year. That is the lowest for a person who is on N20,000 a month. Now, if he is going to contribute N72,000 a year, you can imagine what he can afford. That will be a percentage of the interest he is paying and he also needs to pay the capital back. So we can start to do the calculation to see the kind of house he can afford. Therefore, if, for instance, his mortgage is 5 per cent of the property he is acquiring to own, then if N72,000 is 5 per cent, it means his property would not worth more than 20 times of N72,000. So he cannot afford to buy a house that is more than N1.5 million. So what kind of house can he get with N1.5 million. Such person probably can only afford a room where he is going to share a toilet and kitchen with other tenants. It is called communal housing in the US. And some of these communal houses can only become two bedrooms, three bedrooms and four bedrooms for larger families. So this is how you build a mortgage system. It has to be tailored to the income of the person. In the views of Mr. Ladipo Lewis, Chairman, national Institute of Architects (NIA), Lagos chapter, the picture painted above is the worst case scenario. He said, “I am sure most people earn more than this. But imagine if it were a little bit better, then such things can work but as I have said, government does not have all the money to build houses. In fact, governments run into deficits when they do such things and if you look at what happened in the Soviet Union, that type of largess affected them. “If you look at today, countries like Venezuela did it. Now they are reversing the policy where the government used its money to build houses for the people and practically gave the houses to them for free. Now those properties have appreciated in value, the owners want to sell them because they can’t afford to live in them anymore. So what we are looking at is because it is an economic system, you can’t bypass it; you need to work at it to create it. “And when you create it, it creates revenue. The truth is this, if we actually develop the infrastructure and an enabling environment, people who collect interest rates at 1 per cent, 2 per cent abroad would come to Nigeria and be able to provide affordable housing for the poor. If we do that, if we create that enabling environment, then the investment would come in, then cost of housing would drop. There would be an abundance of it but we also have to watch it. Do you know why? “When we create that enabling environment, we can also create a bubble and when the bubble bursts, it would also be bad for the economy because if there is too much investment in housing, you overbuild and the price would crash. That is what happened in 2008 that affected the whole world. There was too much investment in real estate and it was manipulated, debts were being accrued and there was no security backing them. You just have to sign an agreement and move into a house and start to pay the mortgage. “A lot of that affected development. It created a burble. So one has to be careful about that. So it has to be something that is structured and monitored. There were zero down payment packages created in America and investment in real estate was being seen as the most viable. Then these debts were bundled and sold to other people who did not look at it that these things were not backed with any security. When you do a mortgage, the security is the property but the engine is the person who lives in it. Income is what you are dependent on. If you recover the house, it is worthless if there is nobody to pay the mortgage for it,” he concluded. The graviola tree, or Annona muricata, produces the sweet soursop fruit, also called custard apple, paw paw or, in many Spanish-speaking countries, guanabana. The tree reaches a height of 25 or 30 feet and produces large fruit that may reach a length of 12 inches. Although its rind is quite bitter, the fruit’s flesh is soft, smooth and sweet, and provides carbohydrate as its major nutrient. Soursop also contains abundant vitamin C and several B vitamins such as thiamin, riboflavin and niacin, along with calcium, phosphorus and a small amount of iron. Uses and Components Practitioners of herbal medicine recommend the fruit and leaves of the graviola tree to relieve stomach distress, fever, pain and respiratory problems such as cough and asthma, and for many other medical problems. Soursop contains a number of natural substances that have biological activity, according to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. These include fatty compounds called acetogenins, especially one called annonacin, along with other compounds called quinolones, annopentocins and two alkaloids, coreximine and reticuline. Soursop’s acetogenins are the compounds that have been most studied, especially for their potential to prevent or slow the growth of cancer. The Cancer Center also says that some compounds in soursop may be naturally antiviral and antiparasitic, and may also suppress inflammation. Research Laboratory research supports the potential benefits of soursop as a remedy for disease. In one study, published in “Journal of Ethnopharmacology,” an extract of soursop inhibited the growth of Herpes virus in the laboratory. In addition, the Cancer Center summarizes findings that suggest soursop extracts might slow growth of cancer cells or make them more susceptible to anti-cancer drugs. For example, in one study published in 1997 in “Journal of Medicinal Chemistry,” compounds from soursop were tested on breast cancer cells in culture and found to be up to 250 times more effective in killing the cells than some chemotherapy drugs. These laboratory studies with soursop are promising, but research with human subjects is needed to confirm its potential usefulness. Recommendations The recommended intake of soursop fruit or its extract has not been established. However, one fruit contains about 15 milligrams of annonacin, its most studied component, and one can of commercially prepared soursop nectar provides 36 milligrams. Avoid consuming soursop in excess, however, since large quantities of its alkaloid compounds may cause neurological symptoms similar to Parkinson’s disease. Do not self-treat with soursop or its extract. Discuss its use with your doctor to decide what is best for your situation. Staying healthy is one thing that should be of outmost important to us. Eating healthy foods and exercising regularly are challenges for almost everyone. It’s tough to find the time and motivation to devote to a healthy diet and workout routine, and to balance those factors with other activities. However, the mental and physical benefits of following a healthy lifestyle are significant, and the bottom line is that consistently healthy choices lead to a longer life. According to Dr. Joel Kahn a Cardiologist, “My work as an interventional cardiologist over the last 23 years has been rewarding and challenging, and in that time, I’ve carved out a commitment to wellness. He recommended the below 5 tips tips that may assist you in maintaining your health. 1) Eat a healthy diet. Get 6 to 10 servings of vegetables and fruits daily. (Preferably organic produce.) One easy way to achieve this is to prepare a smoothie with dark berries (often called “brain berries” for their beneficial effect on memory) from the freezer, “green” powders with vegetable grasses, spirulina, chlorella, and other protein sources, such as rice and pea protein powders, some kale or spinach, and some fresh orange juice or almond milk. Lunch should include a salad, a vegetable soup and a piece of washed organic fruit. Dinner should incorporate vegetables known to promote health and reduce cancer risk such as the cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, brussel sprouts, cauliflower). Spices are important with turmeric, cumin, sage, ginger, garlic, and hot peppers all having established medical benefits. At all costs trans-fats and high fructose corn syrup should be banished. Alcohol and caffeine should be moderated. Green tea should be the stable drink along with filtered water. 2) Make fitness a priority. Without question we have become a sedentary society and physicians are not immune. We often sit for prolonged times at work and conferences and work long hours. It is important however to make fitness a priority. Usually early mornings are the best time, as the day gets busy. A home gym, if available, is a great option but nearby fitness center with group classes motivating to get up early and see workout friends. A minimum workout of 30 minutes, 4 to 5 days a week is important. This should rotate cardio training, weight training, and flexibility such as yoga. Stand as much as possible. Recent studies show chair time is life shortening. Standing and treadmill desks, like the one I use at home, help promote movement. Exercise can be broken into two sessions such as 20 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes at lunch time with the same benefit as if done all at once. 3) Get enough sleep. Perhaps the hardest aspect of good health is achieving at least 6 and preferably 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep at night. Poor sleep may come from sleep apnea, late night eating and computer and TV stimulation, a bedroom not sufficiently dark, or, of course, a noisy pager. The health benefits of adequate sleep on mental function, weight control, and overall wellness are great. $) Get supplements. The modern day diet is calorie rich and nutrition poor. Much of this is processed foods and inadequate vegetables and fruits. Even for those choosing diets higher in nutrition dense foods such as vegetables and whole grains, the nutrients in soils in modern farming have dropped greatly and we are largely a country of overfed and undernourished people. Insist on natural based supplements. Suggestions include: Vitamin D3. Vitamin D3 is not only important to bone healthy, but is a potent anti-inflammatory agent and is involved in brain function and cancer prevention. Blood levels should be checked (Vitamin D 25-OH) and most of us are low (usually below 30 ng/ml) and should be supplemented optimally to a level of 50-85 ng/ml. Doses of 2,000-6,000 IU of daily supplementation may be necessary to reach these blood levels. Probiotics. Our diets may be injurious to GI mucosa (dairy, gluten, alcohol, chemicals and pesticides). A leaky gut is now considered a factor in generation of diabetes, atherosclerosis and auto-immune diseases. Adding a probiotic of mixed flora is an easy addition and protection for the gut. Usually 10-20 billion colonies should be available in the daily probiotic supplement. Resveratrol: This polyphenol found in wine has been shown to effect the sirtuin family of longevity genes positively and mimics calorie restriction, a proven way to extend life. It is not possible to get adequate amounts from a glass of wine so a daily supplement of trans-resveratrol, in the range of 100-250 mg, is a reasonable addition. Omega 3 fatty acids: The data for the protective effects of omega 3 fatty acids on the vascular system and the brain are impressive. Good quality pharmaceutical grade supplements are available either from marine sources (salmon, sardine, krill) or plant based sources such as flaxseed, walnuts, and algae. 5) Don’t smoke. visit www.martnewsreports.com to read more www.martnewsreports.com |
As the Federal Government remains poised to diversify the nation’s economy, investment experts say the initiative presents abundant export opportunities for Nigerians. Starting an export business in Nigeria is one of the most lucrative business decisions you can make. The reason is because most export commodities are worth much more in the international market than they do in the local market. The business offers unlimited opportunities and ultimately unlimited profits. Here are some legal requirements for starting export business Company registration with Corporate Affairs Commission under a unique business name. This will add your business to the list of businesses officially recognized by the government. And it’s enough to ensure that someone else does not use your business name for their own business. You must bear in mind, however, that you will not be allowed to register a business name that conflicts with that of another company that is already registered and in existence. A minimum of two directors and two shareholders If you are starting your export business as a company (limited or unlimited) rather than a sole proprietorship or partnership, then you must have a minimum of two directors and two shareholders (maximum of 50) at every time. However, this requirement will not apply to you if you will be running your export business all alone (sole proprietorship) or would be involved with a business partner (partnership). A registered office As with other businesses, every export business in Nigeria must have a registered office, or at least an ‘office address’. So, the government is interested more in you having an address for your business than having an office structure. This explains why a home address would suffice if you are starting small. Whether it’s a ‘home’ or a real office, the most important thing is that it must have an address. Registration with the NEXP The Nigerian Customs Service rules that anyone willing to engage in export business must register with the Nigerian Export Promotion Council. This Council was created to enhance and encourage exportation of commodities other than oil with the ultimate aim of generating national revenue through alternative means. Registering with the Nigerian Export Promotion Council is now easier than ever. Just visit the Council’s website (www.nepc.gov.ng) and click the ‘Register here’ link on the right sidebar. You will be shown the full details of the procedure and requirements. Registration of Form NXP The Nigerian Customs Service also requires that Nigerian exporters complete and register Form NXP with authorized dealers (commercial or merchant banks) of their choice. Your chosen authorized dealer will be in charge of handling your funds and transactions, as you will be required to set up and maintain a Domiciliary Account with them, to which your payments will be deposited. Pig farming also known as piggery, from the research carried out by MartnewsReports, is one of the businesses that can catapult an investor from the position of an employee to that of an employer of labour with high returns on investment within a little space of time. Pig production business in a state alone has the potential of generating about $2 billion (N300 billion) annually and can turnaround financial story of a small entrepreneur. Despite the profitable in piggery, many Nigerians are still overlooking this oppourtunity because of the ignorance of the business. Raising pigs can be pursued as a small-scale operation as source of family meat and supplement income or it can be made into a large-scale operation. Pigs may be raised in highly controlled environments (hog lots) indoor, in open spaces or barns as breeding sows or grown and sold for slaughter to butcher shops. Here are the aspects of pig raising that a grower must carefully consider: Housing for Pigs housing or land is the biggest investment in this business. Once, this is secured, other expenses are minor. Pigs need housing to keep them warm during cold temperatures and to shelter them from excessive heat. Pigs are sensitive to heat and could die from heat stress. When housed indoors, temperature conditions must be well regulated. Controlled temperature conditions can help maximize growth. Cooling mechanisms for pigs can come in the form of drip water system or a wallow (for a hog pen). Pigs can be housed indoors in individual stalls, pens (in groups or batch) or in barns. Even if the pigs are raised outdoors they would need a shelter during cold and hot weathers. The housing should have a space for feeding and bedding. Choosing Piglets to Raise Pigs are of different breeds some of them are well suited for specific environments, indoor or outdoor. Crossbred pigs tend to grow faster, consume feed more efficiently and are vigorous. When buying a feeder, choose the large and healthy looking ones, at least 25 lbs. If you are choosing a male, which is observed to grow slightly faster than females, get one that is already castrated. Male or female, they are preferably immunized. Ask the breeder for health information (Veterinary doctor) for proper health care. Ever fall asleep while scrolling on your smartphone—or purposely leave it on your bed while you snooze? You’re not alone: 44% of cell phone owners have snoozed with their phone next to their bed to make sure they didn’t miss any crucial calls or texts, according to the Pew Internet Project. Bad idea. Cell phones pump out electromagnetic radiation whenever they’re on – which means sleeping with one nearby boosts your exposure all night long. Besides; You could set your pillow on fire A Texas teen recently woke up to a burning smell. The cause? Her Samsung Galaxy S4, which was under her pillow, had partially melted and it scorched her sheets and mattress, too. More specifically, it seems like a non-Samsung replacement phone battery was to blame: the phone’s instruction manual warns against using incompatible cell phone batteries and chargers. The manual also notes that there’s a risk of a fire if the gadget is covered by bedding or other thick material. Bottom line: Stick to phone accessories from the original manufacturer, and don’t leave your cell on your bed. Youcould keep yourself awake Cell phones (and tablets, TVs, and other gadgets with LED screens) give off what’s known as blue light—a type that studies suggest can inhibit the production of the sleep-inducing hormone melatonin and disrupt our circadian rhythms. This may be because blue light emits wavelengths similar to daylight, which can make our bodies think it’s daytime, at any time. To fall asleep when you want (and need) to, power down all electronics two hours before bedtime. Better yet, keep your phone and laptop in another room while you slumber. The health risks of cell phones are murky There’s been no research that proves cell phone use causes cancer; in fact, the links to any kind of health risk aren’t yet clear. In general, cell phones are said to give off such small doses of electromagnetic radiation—which is also emitted from X-rays and microwaves and can lead to tumor growth in high amounts—that they’re perfectly safe to handle. Still, the World Health Organization warned in 2011 that usage may be possibly carcinogenic to humans, especially in children, whose scalps and skulls are thinner than adults’, and more vulnerable to radiation. So if you’re at all worried about the possible cancer risk, try to text instead of call, hold the phone away from your ear, or use an earpiece or the speakerphone setting as much as possible—and definitely don’t sleep with the phone next to your head.www.martnewsreports.com |

Author and personal finance coach, Usiere Uko writes on the advantages and disadvantages of building a mansion in one’s village. I was in my village recently, and as it is my custom, I take a stroll around as I walk back down memory lane – reliving good memories, meeting old faces and observing new developments. One of mum’s pet questions was when I plan to build a house in the village. I have seen cases of people with quit notices from their landlord giving them sleepless nights while they own a house in the village or a building under construction. I know some who died in the city as tenants, never living in the dream home they sunk their life savings into in the village. Owning a home of your own is a deeply emotional issue, and having one where you come from more so, as it is akin to having your roots in the ground. In many cultures, you cannot claim you are from a village until you can point to your house if you are an adult male or your father’s house if you are a child. There is nothing wrong with having a house in your village, if you can afford one – afford being in the context of your financial goals. Many have taken it to a whole new level, putting up a monstrous building or a mansion which sticks out as a landmark, indicating the arrival status of the owner, which may not be the case if you see where he lives in the city. Many people believe their first building must be in their village. Why build and help develop another person’s city? That is a valid point. If you look at it from another angle, if you spend almost 40 years or more in a place and only retire back home for another 20 years or so, which place is really your home? Why pay rent for almost 40 years when you could have used that money to own a home and put in other investments. One of the biggest downsides of living in London is the property prices. Unlike much of the rest of the UK, house prices in London have shot up to surpass their pre-2008 peaks. This started in the “super-prime” areas of central and west London. But it quickly spread out to the rest of the capital as those priced out of those areas moved to less fashionable places. One recent example of how ludicrous things are getting is the block of flats in Brixton that are on the market for £465,000 each, despite the fact that some of them haven’t got any windows. According to the Land Registry, average prices for Greater London have shot up by more than 40% in the last three years alone. The Nationwide puts it even higher, with adjusted prices increasing by over half from 2012 to 2015. However, the good news is that this process may be about to go into reverse… Continue Reading via this link: http://www.martnewsreports.com/2016/04/12/londons-property-market-is-heading-for-a-fall/ |
Better change your thinking. In this type of economy believe it or not some people are still making it. No knowledge is a waste, widen your horizon. |
Many people have the notion that it’s an impossible task to become a millionaire measuring their status. They say, “Its pure luck. You have to be born into a rich family. You’ll have to win the Lotto. Your parents have to help you out a lot.” For instance, some will say, “I work long hours, still I barely have enough money to buy gifts for my children.” A man once said, “Well, if you work for the government or a non-profit organisation, you cannot expect to become a millionaire. After all, you’re on a fixed salary and there’s little time for anything else. By the time you get home, you’ve got to play with the kids and entertain yourself.” The truth is that all of us can become as wealthy as we decide to be. None of us is excluded from wealth. If you have the desire to receive money, whatever the amount, you have all of the rights to do so. There’s no limit to how much you can earn for yourself. Money is like the sun. It does not discriminate. It doesn’t say, “I will not give light and warmth to this flower, tree, or person because I don’t like them.” Like the sun, money is abundantly available to all of us who truly believe that it is for us. No one is excluded. Here are 7 tips to becoming a millionaire: Change Your Thinking You have to see the bigger picture. When most people see just trees, you need to look at the entire forest. This way, you’ll be able to chart your own course and get to where you want to be. By having a vision and the goals to attain that vision, your possibilities are endless. You’ll have to go through plenty of self-discovery before you earn your first million. Knowing the truth about yourself isn’t always the easiest task. Sometimes, you’ll find that you’re your biggest enemy and best friend — even in the same day! Nonetheless, changing your thinking is a requirement for wealth.
