I think the best arrangement for Nigeria political office will be single term of four years for a candidate.

Let me explain, the candidate for president or any other office can only serve a four years tenure and cannot run again for second term.

This candidate must be the head of the party,so a failure of the candidate means the party as failed and electorates will look to vote the opposition.

If the candidate performs well within four years his party will be rewarded by the electorates for another four years.

This way it will save the country from an incompetent selfish person like the former ex presido who damaged the economy and had to be endured for 8 years.

This way the power of any office holder is reduced significantly and the candidate of a party will need to perform if that party wants to remain in Power, it will somewhat be like a parliamentary system where the party will be more careful About the competence of the candidate,it wouldn't just be about the popularity or political ability of the candidate but more about if the candidate can deliver as a president or governor.

The candidates need to be the face and leader of their parties,it will reduce the influence of personalities and encourage competence,cos a party risk loosing power after 4 years if their party fails,in other words it will make people vote parties rather than personalities. Cos if a candidate emerged from a party ,elected by the members of that party as their HEAD and flops as a president or governor( who would be heads of parties of various states). That party will be seen as not able to produce a competent head.

I believe it will strengthen internal democracies of parties because a candidate has to be a member of the party for atleast a year to be eligible to contest a party position ,and will serve as opposition if his party is not in power ,so will be in the public eye,leading the party and criticing the government,like what obi is doing,not that they'll just be quiet for years then only come out when it's time for election and without the electorate knowing the mind of the person and his ability to lead,the person contests an election and wins and plunge the country into a mess
