wristbangle: To be honest, Ajimobi performance has been abysmal so far despite the huge potentials in oyo state I beg to differ. He's arguably the best governor Oyo has produced till date. What legacy did Ladoja leave besides setting the state on fire over sharing of allocation with his god father Adedibu? The only 'good' thing he is 'loved' for was (by civil servants especially, besides his signature Amala politics) paying salaries to an over bloated civil service. His successor, Akala, also left a legacy of a violent tenure that was marked by thuggery and instability. They promoted and increased civil servant salaries based on oil money without increasing igr or attracting investors to the state. Ajimobi is the only governor that has so far tried to develop and modernize the state. Truth be told, Ibadan people are still very backward in their thinking and would prefer a governor that would rather share money and amala than bring development. Even Awo faced stiff resistance in his efforts to develop the area. What Ajimobi is currently doing is similar to what Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu did during his tenure, which involves laying the foundation for a more stable development model for the state. If those Ibadans make the mistake of electing another amala politician, that state would be doomed for another decade or more. Compare the amount on investmens that Ajimobi has attracted to the state under his tenure to his predecessors and count the scores. He built a flyover, hundreds of kilometers of roads, tried to revamp the state educational system along more modern and efficient lines (with vehement resistance from backward thinking people), restructured and improved the igr and tax collection system, Agodi Gardens of today is his brainchild, Ibadan free trade zone, more than 5 malls have since opened in Ibadan to give the city a face lift and create jobs, cinemas, fast-food chains and other international brands have set up shop in the city under his tenure. Ibadan master plan was created under his tenure. If his successors can't build on this and would rather glorify and propagate a return to the amala kind of politics that was played by the Ladojas and Akalas, then forget the state. Ogun will always have a better advantage than Oyo due to its proximity to Lagos in terms of industries. Let's hope the new rail is completed so that the state will open up even further. |

WhoBannedMyBro: @bolded I agree Dude, What are you agreeing to? Based on what proof or evidence? In terms of Hotels, Yorubas beat them hands down. Do a search on all the Hotel listing directories (Hotels.ng, travel.jumia.com) per state and compare the number of Hotels in Yorubaland and Igboland. According to a Jovago (now Jumia travels) survey, the following cities have the largest number of 5-star hotels in Nigeria: https://www.okay.ng/list-of-nigerian-states-with-the-highest-number-of-5-star-hotels/1. Lagos – 22 (1164 hotels in total) 2. Abuja – 6 (370 hotels in total) 3. Port Harcourt – 5 (226 hotels in total) 4. Ibadan – 2 (281 hotels in total) 5. Calabar – 1 (177 hotels in total) A quick search on Hotels.ng and Jumia travels show that Ibadan is third city with the largest number of hotels in Nigeria, behind Lagos and Abj, even more than PH. On Hotels.ng (Nigeria's largest hotels listing company), 399 hotels are listed under ibadan, while Owerri has just 138 hotel listings (the entire Imo had just 180, Anambra had 242, Enugu 274, Abia 164, Ebonyi 71), while Oyo as a whole had 505, Ogun had 584, Osun 185, Ondo 117, Ekiti 207, as against Abuja's 799 and the entire Rivers had 414 listings. Lagos is king with 2207. This data is consistent with those from other sources. Please, ensure that you debate these people based on facts like other posters have been doing. Yorubas don't just make noise, but if we must we will do so based on FACTS and incontrovertible data. |

Crime › NDLEA Arrests Man With 25kg Of Ephedrine At Kano Airport by OkutaNla(op): 8:29pm On Jul 29, 2017 |
http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/07/ndlea-arrests-man-25kg-ephedrine-kano-airport/The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested a 59-year-old man with 25kg of substances tested to be ephedrine (a medication and stimulant), while trying to board an Ethiopian airline flight from the Aminu Kano International Airport to South Africa.
The NDLEA says Ephedrine (EPH) or pseudoephedrine (PSE), or drug products containing these substances have chemicals used in the illicit manufacture of methamphetamine.
Mr Mitchell Ofoyeju, NDLEA spokesperson in a statement in Abuja, said that Christopher Chukwuani, a fish farmer was intercepted at the departure waiting lounge based on intelligence.
“The suspect was arrested following a tip-off after he had already gone through screening.
“When the substance was detected, it was tested and found to be positive for ephedrine.
“Already, an investigation had commenced into the case since the arrest on July 15,”Umoru stated.
The NDLEA spokesperson alleged that the 59-year-old Enugu based fish farmer said he smuggles drugs in order to expand his fish farming business.
He said the suspect who said he was from Agbogugu, Agwu Local Government Area of Enugu State, is married and has three children.
“I decided to smuggle drugs to invest the money in my fish farm. They promised to pay me the sum of $2,000 dollars, the suspect allegedly said .
NDLEA Chairman, retired Col. Muhammad Abdallah said the arrest and seizure reiterated the importance of intelligence in the fight against drug trafficking.
“Effective drug control is predicated on excellent intelligence management.
“This case is a validation of the cardinal role of good intelligence gathering and processing.
“The case is being investigated and further information shall be provided to members of the public,” Abdallah said.
The NDLEA boss also assured that more arrests in connection with the seizure are in the offing and the suspect will soon be charged to court.

https://d19lga30codh7.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/Osun-us3-300x200.jpg Governor State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola plays host to the American Ambassador to Nigeria, Ambassador Stuart Symington
The United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Stuart Symington has applauded the state Government of Osun for its Social Investment Programmes, saying it is the major reason everybody is coming to Osun to learn about her programmes. Mr. Symington declared this today when he paid a courtesy visit to governor of the State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola at the Bola Ige House, Abere, Osogbo, the Osun State Capital.
The Ambassador who was accompanied on the trip by the US Consul-General, Mr. John Bray; Deputy Public Affairs Officer, Mr. Frank Sellin and Assistant Regional Security Officer, Mr. Paul Biba commended the state government for its massive infrastructural investment which he said has created wealth and employment for the people.

The Governor of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola had, while receiving the US Ambassador with select members of his cabinet, described his government’s belief in investing in human capital. The Osun governor also made it clear to the ambassador that his administration came into government with a clear objective of how to tackle the various socio-economic problems of the people of the state.
https://d19lga30codh7.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/Osun-us2-300x200.jpg
Aregbesola maintained that his administration focused on the six-point integral action plan which has, over the years, made his government to focus on social security areas through schemes such as the O-YES, O-MEALS, O-AMBULANCE and the welfare scheme for the aged among others.

“From the onset, our goal for the people of the state was clear to us. As part of our efforts to take our people out of poverty, we re-energised the school feeding programme which we met on ground. “The OMEAL programme of our state has turned subsistence farming into a commercial venture in Osun.
It has boosted the sales of agricultural products in the state tremendously” Aregbesola said. The governor further revealed that the state has served, as at the last count, over 202,234,400 hot meals to primary school pupils in the state. The American envoy on learning that over 200 million meals have been served to school pupils in Osun, lauded the State Government for running an impactful and people-oriented government in spite of the present economic challenges facing Nigeria.
Mr. Symington also commended the efforts of the state government in road infrastructure, likening road development to human development. Describing democracy as the best form of government in the world, Syminton noted that the policies adopted by the Osun state government in stimulating her economy and advancing the well-being of her citizens remain the major characteristics of democracy in the world. “The state is on a steady growth, I so much appreciate good roads. This state is investing so much in roads infrastructure and it’s very good for the future and overall development of the state.
“Another good area is your various social intervention programmes, you are helping in creating jobs and wealth, no wonder people always come to your state to learn,” The American envoy noted. Recall that just last week, the UNICEF had led top government officials drawn from 17 states in the six geo-political zones of Nigeria to Osun for a four-day learning tour of its various social investment programmes. Politics › APC To Southeast Leaders: Rein In Your Separatist Agitators by OkutaNla(op): 7:00am On Jun 09, 2017 |
http://thenationonlineng.net/apc-southeast-leaders-rein-separatist-agitators/The All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday called on Southeast leaders to rein in the separatist agitators in their midst to stem provocative rhetorics.
In a statement by its national spokesman Bolaji Abdullahi, the APC said: “We hereby call on political leaders in the South East to emulate their northern counterparts by reining in separatist agitators in the region and arresting the spate of provocative and inciting declarations and actions.
“This is the leadership responsibility imposed on them by the positions they occupy. We are disappointed to see that non-state actors could effectively subvert civil order in the face of duly constituted political authorities.
“Certainly, this unfortunate situation cannot be allowed to repeat itself.” The party commended “the proactive and decisive action taken by northern governors and political leaders on the recent ultimatum and declaration by a so-called Arewa Youth Consultative Forum.
“We are delighted to see that the pressures mounted by the various leaders have forced the group to reverse its misguided ultimatum and threats.
“However, our party remains disturbed by the increasing spate of separatist agitations by individuals and groups in the country. While we affirm the inalienable rights of citizens and groups to agitate for legitimate causes as a key ingredient of participatory democracy, we believe that such agitations should be guided by the extant laws of the country and established democratic norms. They must be peaceful and demonstrate respect for the constitutional rights of other citizens who may not share in their separatist aspirations.
“We observe that the nature and content of recent agitations clearly transcends the boundaries of the law and exceedds the limits of freedom of speech. They are therefore, patently inimical to national cohesion and the sustenance of our hard-earned democracy.
“The National Assembly, the courts and several lawful avenues are available to citizens, groups and sundry interests to make change, seek redress and advance legitimate causes. Therefore, we call on agitators to either join a political party which shares their ideology or form a new party to push their cause.
“For emphasis, the APC strongly condemns any utterance, ultimatum or actions that threaten the corporate existence of our country.
“The Party is hopeful that various security agencies will investigate and prosecute promoters and sponsors of these provocative, divisive, inciting and undemocratic declarations and actions.
“We express our firm belief that despite our challenges, our strength as a country lies in the diversity of our peoples. This we must use to our advantage in our quest to lift the country to its deserved heights.” Mynd44, Lalasticlala

CHIDIEBUBE OKEOMA
Igbo people are the major victims of the economic recession, a former Governor of Imo State, Ikedi Ohakim, has said.
The former governor spoke on Saturday at the inaugural Chinua Achebe International Conference held at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
He lamented that the Igbo were largely marginalised in the country while calling for a change in the current political structure which concentrates power at the centre.
Ohakim spoke on the topic, “The Igbo and the leadership question: The Achebe example.”
He said, “The Federal Government created a national intervention project in 2006 under former President Olusegun Obasanjo to restore peace and promote a sense of belonging in the country. This gave rise to the N400bn East – West Road project, the N600bn Kano/ Maiduguri Road project, the N200bn Lokoja/Abaji/ Abuja Road project and the N150bn Ibadan /Ogbomosho /Oshogbo Road.
“But curiously, the South-East was left out. When we demanded an explanation, we were promised the second Niger Bridge but alas, this project is being pushed to a public-private partnership arrangement with a tolling scheme to recoup the cost of the project. Is this a fair deal for Ndigbo? We must continue to ask for our own share of the 2006 National Intervention Fund.” Mynd44, Lalasticlala

Family › Man Pays Off Wife With N5m, Car, N100,000 Monthly Allowance by OkutaNla(op): 8:36am On May 25, 2017 |
http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/05/man-pays-off-wife-n5m-car-n100000-monthly-allowance/ON MAY 25, 2017 A businessman, Augustine Anyia, yesterday, told an Agege customary court that his wife, Nneka, asked for N5 million, a car, N100,000 monthly allowance as pay off; as he begged the court to dissolve his seven-year-old marriage due to lack of care, lesbianism and threat to his life.
Augustine, a father of two, who resides in Ajah, Lagos, told the court: “My wife is quarrelsome and quick to violence, especially when she demands for money or anything and l don’t respond to on time.”
The petitioner told the court that he married the respondent after six months of courtship on his return from the United States, but that “there has been no peace of mind in this marriage: she is a party freak and does not have any iota of respect for me.”
Augustine also alleged that the respondent engages in lesbianism with her friends.
He said: “I see all sorts of pictures of naked women with my wife, sent to my phone by her friends. They inform me about their acts of lesbianism, asking me to stay away from her.”
The petitioner told the court that on two different occasions, he moved out of his house due to threats to his life, adding “whenever we have any misunderstanding, she always threatens to kill me.
“The stress is unbearable; there is no longer peace of mind in this loveless marriage.”
Pay off
The petitioner also alleged that his wife reported him at a police station and when he was summoned, the respondent demanded that he pay her off as she was fed up with the marriage.
He said: “My wife demanded for N5 million, a car, N100,000 monthly allowance for the children and to be responsible for the children’s school fees.
“I agreed to these and I gave her all that she requested for.”
She moved out of the house in October 2016 and refused me access to the children till date.
The petitioner, who described his wife as “a troublesome and mischievous person,” pleaded with the court to dissolve the marriage because he was no longer interested in the union.
He also prayed the court to grant him access to his two children. The respondent was, however, not present during the proceedings in court.
The court’s President, Mr. Philip Williams, adjourned the case till June 22 for further hearing. Lalasticlala, Mynd44 |
