Cristiano Ronaldo has been congratulated on passing Pele in the international scoring charts by the man himself.

The Real Madrid superstar took his international goal tally for Portugal to 78 on Thursday by bagging a hat-trick in a World Cup qualifying clash with the Faroe Islands.

Ronaldo’s treble heroics have carried him above legendary Brazilian Pele and into the top five on the all-time list. Only Ali Daei (109), Ferenc Puskas (84), Kunishige Kamamoto (80) and Godfrey Chitalu (79) now sit above Ronaldo on the international roll of honour.

Ronaldo has already made 144 appearances for Portugal, but there is the promise of many more to come as he shows no sign of slowing down.

Archaeologists have uncovered two ritual baths in the remains of the Great Synagogue of Vilna (Vilnius), in Lithuania, more than 70 years after its destruction during the Holocaust. A team of experts from Israel, the U.S. and Lithuania uncovered the baths in the Lithuanian capital last month, the latest discovery at the historic site.

The 17th-century Great Synagogue was at the heart of the Jewish community Vilnius for hundreds of years until its destruction by the Nazis. Prior to the Holocaust, the Great Synagogue was also surrounded by a host of buildings, including other synagogues, a community council, kosher meat stalls, miqva’ot (ritual baths) and the famous Strashun rabbinical library.

The Great Synagogue compound was looted and burned by German forces in 1941, and the standing remains were later completely destroyed by Soviet authorities in the 1950s. The Soviets later built a school on top of the area in 1964.

Ex-aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr. Reno Omokri, has said that President Muhammadu Buhari must be congratulated because he has set what Omokri described as “a new Guinness World Record.”

Omokri noted that “Buhari has become the first elected president of a country to become resident of another nation while still in power.”

He derided, albeit sarcastically, those who say Mr. President has no achieved anything. “Shame on all those haters who say President Buhari has not achieved anything in over two years of being in office. Is this not an achievement?” Omokri wrote.
