Romance / Re: Why Do The Rich Marry The Rich And The Poor Marry The Poor.... by olafotad: 6:22pm On May 04, 2016
There nothing like poverty for a young man. Poverty is only a mentality developed because of sm1's background. So getting married to some1 depends on platform. Its kinda difficult to marry sm1 in which u have no platform of meeting.
The only reason for this is that there exist a demarcating wall BTW d high placed individuals and d lowly placed ones.
You either marry some1 u meet in Sch, work place, perhaps during the course of NYSC at times. But all dis differ because d sch a highly place individual's child will go is different from LA schools the lowly attends. Even university and during service, its either Lagos or Abuja ....

1. I do not distinguish who is "Lagos contractor" or "Osun Contractor" you did. What I do know is that contractors are short-listed and those with proven records get the jobs. For example the Airport project was given to the Airforce Engineering unit, which to me is a demonstration of awarding sensitive project to those that are proven.

2. Argument of "Lagos contractors are not from heaven" am afraid, sounds, like inferiority complex issue. If you're looking at what contractors does a project as a yardstick of goverment performance, then I am afraid, the likes of you are living in denial

3. The view that government needs to pass money to the people through salaries, as a priviso to stimulate the economy is limited. Don't get me wrong, Salaries are wages, and it is the responsibility of the employer (government) to pay the employed(workers). But we in Osun needs to move beyond this mentality. Economy is stimulated by government facilitating enabling environment for business growth, so that in the long run, government can increase their IGR. Don't you know that if Osun has IGR in the region of 6-7billion a month, it will be less dependent on the federal government? When Obasanjo withheld Lagos State allocation for almost 2years, Lagos State government was not only able to move on, salaries were never delayed. The reason is that when Tinubu was government, he went on an aggressive drive to increase commerce which had a multiplier effect on internal revenue generation.

4. So when I got to the bolded above, I cannot but laff grin grin grin grin grin grin grin
Whenever I see write-ups like this, there is this crucial question that keeps begging for answers in my mind. The question is : can Africa or Nigeria move forward ? When people who ought to think out of the box and develop our political theories join the band wagon.
1.First and foremost, been inferior is when you are not proud of what you have. There is no doubt that some are better than others, it however becomes foolishness when you neglect what you have because you can get better one every time. when will yours develop ? There is no justification for doing that ! Yes you might think that they alone have what it takes but trust me you are probably wrong !
2. I like your second argument because it shows how confused you are. You are talking about IGR when government gives almost no reason for any big firm to stay in the state. IGRs are generated main from taxes in which company income tax is principal. So tell me how can companies survive when what ought to serve as their income is being taken to Lagos ? You might argue that government should not be that only source of companies' income but it has to start from somewhere given the economic nature of the state.
The economic nature of the state however, can then being changed through this approach and not by mere saying since no private investor can come to a state whose economic condition is nothing to write home about and that is why government must champions it.

1. I do not doubt if we have contractors in Osun (my cousin "was" a government contractor under Oyinlola), What I doubt is if we have contractors of the expected magnitude to execute the projects at the levels set by the government. How is getting contractors tantamount to siphoning money to Lagos? You people just regurgitate some illogic reasoning. I still state that the important thing is getting the job done very well and not a choice between Osun-based or Lagos-based contractors.

2. Allocation of funds and taxes are not leaving Osun. First off Osun's State allocation is of no consequence to the economy of Lagos, if we go by your assumptions. Lagos Island and Alimosho Locals Govt could dwarf the whole of Osun in IGR and worker head count. Secondly,, you will need to also review orientation wrt contractors, are you looking at contracts as one of the ways of sharing national cake or infrastructure development with a potential of boosting commerce. Osun state if not careful will simply be a consumer/rent collecting state.

3. The bold as emotional as it is, is also perception going south developmental wise. The other players in the states are not supposed to depend on civil servant's salaries. They do make money and can hazard a guess that some make more than the civil servants
Take it or leave it.... Lagos contractors are not from heaven. And I am still on the point that we can do even better ! I have seen situations where Lagos contractors hire those ones here to execute project for them.
Furthermore, I believe that you should have more idea about how money get to people through the government and vice versa. Artisans cannot live alone with having people to buy their products and about 70 of Osun workers are government workers. so tell me how they will have sales when salaries are not been paid . This is what we see everyday. I live in Osun and I see this myself.
It was bad to the level of transporting sand from Lagos to Osun for building schools. Are there no sand in Osun or is it that those ones here are so bad ?
All I can say is that you probably are not living in Osun or you are so ignorant of how governance should be .

Are there no contractors in Nigeria that we went to give contracts of Federal Roads and Bridges to Julius Berger, CCEC, Arab Contractors and the likes?

Yes let's talk about competence, please name the notable local contractors in Osun state that can do projects of such magnitude? It's simply a matter of logic and choice. Aregbesola was a commissioner in Lagos, he had contractors that worked with him and are proven. He's probably oblivious of those contractors in Osun, if any.......

But what is at the heart of this discussion for me, is that we have a departure from the orientation where critical state infrastructure projects are awarded on compensation grounds to indigens.
That is where I disagree with you ! we have more competent contractors in Osun. Getting contractor from Lagos is a way of syphoning Osun money to Lagos through his allies whom you said he had worked with while he was the commissioner of work in Lagos state.
Picture this : people are paying taxes, allocation is coming for the central government but none of this funds is staying in the state. The consequence of this would be economy downturn as we have in the present day in Osun. Furthermore, civil servants whose salaries should be a link by which people (who might not be civil servants) derive economic benefits are not been paid promptly/fully.

Quit your childish tantrum. Is "Lagos contractors" an issue or job delivery. Which "Lagos contractor" do you have issue with the job given and was not done. I just to understand when some statement that don't make sense are put forward as argument. Where are the "Osun Contractors"?
That's one of the simple truth that will ever remain 'childish tantrum' that many idiots will never understand. How can a state develop when we don't trust our artisans ? How can we move forward when we solely depend foreigners to help us ?
The question is quite simple and not far fetched. We want to build a house and we go as far as Lagos to hire contractor, the question is ; are there no contractors in our state ? I know you would reply that they are not competent.
Aregbesola has failed us and there is no way to say otherwise. Although we voted for him, he has failed us !
Civil servants and retirees are dying everyday because of his economic policies.
I have a lot to say but will not leave my work to comment on what everyone knows.
