The leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, met with the Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Pro-Chancellors of Universities, over the union’s prolonged strike.

The union, on February 14, embarked on a strike following what it described as the failure of the government to meet some of its demands.

Amongst other things, ASUU is seeking improvement in the condition of service of university lecturers, release earned allowances for lecturers, and release revitalisation funds for university.

Man kills Commercial Sexworker With Intercourse

A Magistrate court sitting in Akure has ordered the remand of a 31-year-old man identified as Dele Ebenezer in police custody over the alleged murder of a sex worker.Omhenimhen Augustine, the Police Prosecutor informed the court that the accused person allegedly killed Blessing Eze, 47, by having sexual intercourse with her.

According to Augustine, the deceased became unconscious during the process which resulted in her death.

The accused person who was alleged to have committed the offence on June 22, 2022, around 4 am at Cool Corner Hotel in Ondo, however, pleaded not guilty but his plea was not taken.

Augustine said the offence contravened Section 316(2) and is punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code Cap, 37. Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The prosecutor hereby urged the court to remand the defendant pending the issuance of the DPP advice.

Counsel to the accused person, C.O Falana prayed the court to make him file a counter-affidavit.

In his ruling, Magistrate O.R Yakubu admitted the accused person to be remanded in police custody and adjourned the case till July 14, 2022, for the court, DPP to argue the remand application.

Man filmed handling woman’s boob in ‘korope’ public bus

A man has been filmed handling the breast of a woman in a public bus popularly called ‘korope’.

Actress Becky Benson who sat behind the two filmed them without their knowledge.

She captioned the clip: “Aunty breast don finish for inside public bus oooh. My eyes see something this morning.”

The clip shows the man’s hand wrapped around the woman and tucked under her armpit.

He then goes to work while their faces remain expressionless so that no one knows what is going on.

A number of children allegedly kidnapped have been discovered in a church’s basement on Friday night in the Valentino Area of Ondo town, headquarters of Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State.

According to information gathered, the kids were allegedly victims of a kidnapping syndicate and kept in the underground of the church.

A source stated that the victims were over 50 when police saved them, adding that the pastor of the church and some members of the church had been detained by the police.

In a widely shared video, the kids were seen being driven to the police station by security operatives in a patrol car.

A voice could be heard saying, “There are kidnapped children recovered in the underground cell of a church in Valentino Area of Ondo,” in a video that lasts one minute and 40 seconds.

Speaking on the development, SP Funmilayo Odunlami, the state command’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed that the victims had been brought to the police headquarters in Akure.

“They are transporting the casualties to the headquarters, but I’m still unsure of the specifics.
“I will provide you with the information as soon as I receive it from the DPO.”
