Crime / See The Face Of The Teen Gunman Who Killed 17 And Injured 50 People Yesterday by olamy2000(m): 3:08pm On Feb 15, 2018
Former student Nikolas Cruz, 19, entered Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland armed with an assault rifle and began shooting just after 2pm yesterday February 14th.

Investigators are now looking into whether Cruz may have pulled the fire alarm to draw people into halls so he could get a higher death toll. Broward Sheriff Scott Israel confirmed that 17 people had been killed and dozens more were injured.

Cruz was armed with at least one AR-15 rifle and had 'multiple magazines' when he stormed the school, according to the sheriff.

The teenager had been expelled from the school for unknown 'disciplinary reasons'.
Authorities have already started dissecting his social media accounts and reported that some of things he had been posting was 'very disturbing'.

Traumatized students said that once they heard reports of a mass shooting at the school they knew it would be Cruz, while one teacher said he had been identified as a potential threat to his classmates last year.

Nairaland / General / Local Divers Kill Huge Python In Lagos (Photos) by olamy2000(m): 10:59am On Dec 18, 2017
Some local divers in Ikola-Ilumo, Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, have killed a giant snake, which they also put on display.

The divers are known to fish in the river that runs under the bridge that separates Ipaja Town from Ikola-Ilumo, both in Lagos State.

Women also pick giant snails from the thick bush that surrounds the river.
On sunday afternoon, the divers were busy at work when one of them took notice of the python in a hole it slid into.

He called for support to get it killed, but, as narrated by the divers, their cutlass did not penetrate the snake’s thick skin.

They said they also hit it with sticks, none of which had any effect on the monstrous beast.

“We then sent for a local hunter who came with a charmed dane gun.
“The hunter, known as Baba Agbomola Okesagun, rushed to the scene and, while reciting some incantations, fired several shots at the snake, killing it without much ado,” the divers narrated.
This correspondent witnessed the hunter emerge from the bush pulling the snake behind him.
Those who stay around the river claimed that the python was a source of worry to them, as it regularly came out in search of food.

In commemoration of the exploits, Baba Agbomola Okesagun served dry gin in a portable glass cup to as many observers as wished to drink.

Nairaland / General / Fuel Queues Return To Lagos, Persist In Abuja, others As Oil Workers Begin Strike by olamy2000(m): 10:47am On Dec 18, 2017
The lingering petrol scarcity in many parts of the country grew worse on Sunday in Lagos, Abuja, Nasarawa, Kaduna and Niger states as many filling stations were shut.

The closure of the filling stations followed threats by members of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria to embark on a nationwide strike from today (Monday).
Many fillings stations that dispensed petrol last week refused to sell the commodity on Sunday, as some of their managers stated that they were obeying the directives of PENGASSAN.
Officials of PENGASSAN told one of our correspondents that the Department of State Services had invited the association to a meeting, which commenced at 6pm on Sunday and was still ongoing as of the time of filing this report.
A source, who is an executive of a Lagos-based oil marketing company, told our correspondent that the lingering supply shortfall was largely responsible for the queues at filling stations.

He said a new vessel, which came in on Friday and had started discharging about 35 million litres of PMS, would improve the supply situation at depots and filling stations this week.

It was observed that some filling stations in Lagos and parts of Ogun states as well as Abuja and neighbouring states were shut on Sunday, while the few that sold petrol had very long queues that spilled onto the roads.

The Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Ndu Ughamadu, told one of our correspondents on Sunday that the management of the firm was meeting officials of PENGASSAN.

“As we speak right now, the NNPC is holding consultation with the association on this matter and we are optimistic,” he said.

When asked if there was any plan to increase the pump price of petrol based on claims by some government officials, Ughamadu replied, “We have said it many times that there is no plan by the NNPC to increase petrol price and that is the situation.”

On the meeting with the DSS, the Public Relations Officer, PENGASSAN, Fortune Obi, said it was as a result of the planned strike by the association.
When told that the decision by PENGASSAN to embark on a nationwide industrial action had led to long queues in filling stations, Obi replied, “More of such will happen because there is a directive to members to shut down operations and some of them have already started, which is why some outlets are not dispensing.”
PENGASSAN had announced last week that it would embark on an indefinite strike from today (Monday) following a stalemate in the peace meeting, which the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu, brokered between the union and Neconde Energy Limited.
The oil union and Neconde had been embroiled in a crisis over allegation of anti-worker practices by the firm.
The union alleged that the management of Neconde wrongly terminated the employment of some of its workers, and threatened to go on strike if the sacked workers were not recalled within 72 hours.
It was also gathered that officials of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment were meeting with the association to shelve the strike in order to prevent further hardship on petrol users.
The Federal Government appealed to PENGASSAN to shelve its planned strike in the spirit of the ongoing conciliation between it and Neconde Energy Services.
It said that the appeal was imperative in order to save Nigerians from further hardship, especially in the Christmas and the New Year seasons.

Sports / Mohamed Salah Wins BBC African Footballer Of The Year 2017 by olamy2000(m): 7:55pm On Dec 11, 2017
Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah has been voted the winner of the BBC African Footballer of the Year Award 2017.

It is the first time that Salah has been shortlisted for the award with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp joining BBC presenter Mimi Fawaz at the club's Melwood training ground to present the coveted trophy as part of 'Focus on Africa' on BBC World Service.

Fans voted in record numbers to name Salah the winner from a five-man shortlist, with the current Premier League top-scorer selected in front of Gabon’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Guinean and future Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita, current Liverpool team-mate Sadio Mane of Senegal and Nigeria’s Victor Moses.

“I am very happy to win this award," said Salah. "It’s always a special feeling when you win something. You feel like you did a great year, so I’m very happy. I would also like to win it next year!”

Salah was the central figure for Egypt as they finished runners-up at the Africa Cup of Nations and is enjoying a hot streak of form, having already scored 13 goals so far in the Premier League.

“I want to be the best Egyptian ever so I work hard,” added Salah, who has become the third Egyptian to win the award, and first since 2008.
After joining Liverpool from Roma in June, he was named the club's player of the month in August and September. A goal on his debut helped him rack up seven goals in his first 11 Premier League games, and he has fared even better in the Champions League, with five goals in six group games.

“It’s well deserved,” said Jurgen Klopp. “I am a really lucky person. I had the opportunity to work with a few outstanding players and I am happy that it is now with Mo.

"The good thing is that he is still young, there is a lot of space for improvement, a lot of potential still that we can work on, but that’s how it should be. It’s a big pleasure, to be honest, to work with him.”

Salah joins a list of African legends including Abedi Pele, George Weah, Jay-Jay Okocha and Didier Drogba, to have won the BBC African Footballer of the Year prize.

“I am very happy to be like them in winning this award,” said the Egyptian, who follows compatriots Mohamed Barakat (2005) and the legendary Aboutreika (2008) in receiving the trophy.

Crime / Oklahoma Science Teacher, 22, Charged With Rape Of Teenage Student by olamy2000(m): 12:37pm On Nov 18, 2017
A 22-year-old science teacher from Oklahoma was charged with rape after sheriff’s deputies barged in on a tryst she had allegedly set up with a teenage student.

Hunter Day, of Yukon, admitted to exchanging explicit texts with the boy, a student in her chemistry class at Yukon Public Schools, after police discovered her in her home surrounded by scented candles on Wednesday, the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office said.
She also allegedly texted that the student should hurry up because her husband would be home soon. News 9 Oklahoma reports that Day’s husband is the football coach at Yukon schools.

The boy was meant to meet the science teacher at her home on Wednesday and the deputies, who were given the teenager’s cellphone by his parents, sent her a message “I’m here.” Day responded, “the doors [sic] unlocked as usual,” according to authorities.

“Inside the living room, sitting on floor with the lights turned off in the living room, with candles lit was Hunter Day,” according to Canadian Country Sheriff Chris West.

Day is facing charges of facilitating sexual contact with a minor, second-degree rape and possession of child pornography. Is is being held on $85,000 bail.

The sheriff’s office said deputies began their investigation when the boy’s parents contacted authorities. Evidence of the relationship was allegedly found on his phone, which included nude pictures and lurid text messages.

“This is a classic case of a serious breach of public trust. School teachers are entrusted to protect and educate our children, not to engage in an unlawful sexual relationship with them,” Canadian Country Sheriff Chris West said. “I’m no longer surprised by the people who commit these crimes, because predators come from all walks of life.”

Celebrities / Man Ready To Make Baby With Sex Robot by olamy2000(m): 6:01am On Nov 03, 2017
The inventor of a sex robot, Sergi Santos, has revealed he was ready to make babies with his creation, Samantha.

Santos who lives with his wife, Maritsa Kissamitaki, in their Barcelona home says he is ready to take the next step with his plastic partner and boasts that it would be “extremely simple”.

Santos in an interview with UKSUN made this shocking revelation where he said he nurtured the idea that people would soon start having a family with robots.

Sergi said, “I can make them [sex robots] have a baby. It’s not so difficult. I would love to have a child with a robot.

“Using the brain I have already created, I would program it with a genome so he or she could have moral values, plus concepts of beauty, justice and the values that humans have.

“Then to create a child with this robot, it would be extremely simple. I would make an algorithm of what I personally believe about these concepts, and then shuffle it with what she thinks and then 3D print it.”

The 39-year-old says having regular sex with his cyborgs is not detrimental to his marriage – in fact, he claims, it has “improved” their relationship.

His android, dubbed ‘Samantha’, has the ability to create emotional closeness and progress through different modes from romantic to family to sexy.

The ‘Samantha’ sex robot was presented on camera in Barcelona in March and is said to respond to being touched in different areas of her body.

According to him, he was designed to be interactive.

“Basically, she likes to be touched,” he said.

“She has different modes of interaction: she has romantic, she has family and she has sexy modes.

“You can touch in the hips, in the arms… she likes to be kissed. She also responds to the G spot and the breasts. She can also respond to the hands. The hands are romantic.

“The final objective of the sexual mode is to get her to get an orgasm,” he said.

Sports / Joe Gomez, Ruben Loftus-cheek And Tammy Abraham Named In England Senior Squad by olamy2000(m): 4:05pm On Nov 02, 2017
Tammy Abraham, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Joe Gomez have been called up by England for the first time - but Daniel Sturridge, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Chris Smalling are among those to have missed out.

Gareth Southgate's Three Lions kick-off their World Cup preparations with back-to-back friendlies against Germany and Brazil at Wembley.

England are clearly ready to experiment in this month's internationals given Swansea striker Abraham and Crystal Palace's Loftus-Cheek - both on loan from Chelsea - are joined in the 25-man squad by Liverpool defender Gomez.

Manchester United's Ashley Young, who last played for his country in September 2013, has been rewarded for his resurgent form with a call-up, while Danny Rose and Jamie Vardy return from injury.

There are some glaring absentees from Southgate's squad.

The Liverpool duo of Sturridge and Oxlade-Chamberlain have been left out, as has Manchester United centre-back Smalling.

Everton's Michael Keane, who has been struggling with a foot complaint, was another notable name missing, while Jermain Defoe, Aaron Cresswell, Fraser Forster and Jake Livermore are others from the previous squad to not be involved.

Impressive Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks was included after a fine debut at Lithuania, as was Manchester City's Fabian Delph, but Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott have not been included.

Speaking at a press conference at Wembley, Southgate said: "If I'm asking club managers to be brave and pick young players, I think I've got to do the same."

The England boss took issue with the upcoming double-header being referred to as "non-competitive", insisting there was no such thing at this level.

"There is no non-competitive game for England," he said. "These are huge opportunities for us to improve and play against the best two teams in the world currently. I don't see a fixture where you pull an England shirt on and it's not competitive. It's important we register that.

On 32-year-old Young's recall, more than four years after his last cap, Southgate said: "His performances warrant it. We want to play with wing-backs - I think it's a role he can perform, left or right, very well. He's played very well for Manchester United.

"Generally speaking we want to look at younger players, and develop the team, but I've always said if a more senior player is playing well and warrants the call-up, we should include them. He's a player every Manchester United manager has picked, and that tells me something about his mentality and the trust they have in him."

There was no place for Arsenal midfielder Wilshere despite his club manager Arsene Wenger tipping him for a recall earlier this week.

"I don't know how you can get in an England squad without getting in an Arsenal team," Southgate said.

"There is no question in our mind about Jack Wilshere's ability and football brain and personality, we just need to see him playing regular league football before we think it is right to put him back in.

"I did have a conversation with Arsene about him on Saturday because he is a top player so for him it is just game-time."

Southgate has sacrificed Smalling so he can take a look at the younger defenders in his squad.

"I have huge respect for Chris. He is a player playing at a big club," Southgate said.

"We want to play in a certain way and the players I have brought in I want to see using the ball from the back and building it up in a certain way.

"And that is a style thing I want to look at. I know what Chris can do.

"There are a few young defenders that haven't got as many games under their belt and I think it is a great chance to see what they can do and see if they can play at this level."
