PoliticsDangote Refinery Slashes Petrol Price To ₦865 by olatade(op): 12:24pm On Apr 10, 2025
As exclusively predicted by The PUNCH, the Dangote refinery has informed marketers and its customers of a downward review of its ex-gantry loading cost to N865 per litre.

The new price is a reduction of N15 from N880 per litre sold by the facility on Wednesday.

Our correspondent gathered that the refinery informed its customers in a notice sent out on Thursday morning.

A Pro forma invoice was sighted by our correspondent and checks into petroleumprice.ng also confirmed the development.

Recall that marketers had exclusively informed our correspondent that the 650,000 barrels refinery was anticipated to lower its petrol loading costs by the end of this week, further contributing to the reduction in fuel prices.

The National Publicity Secretary of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Chinedu Ukadike, reassured the public of the price drop while commenting on the Federal Executive Council’s directive regarding the naira-for-crude agreement.

On Wednesday, the Federal Executive Council, after an initial delay, directed the full implementation of the suspended Naira-for-Crude agreement with local refiners.

It said the initiative with local refineries is not a temporary measure but a “key policy directive designed to support sustainable local refining.”

The Ministry of Finance disclosed this in a statement published on its official X handle titled, “Update on the Crude and Refined Product Sales in Naira Initiative.” The statement was released following a meeting on Tuesday between the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, and representatives from Dangote Refinery, a major beneficiary of the agreement, to review progress and address ongoing implementation matters.

The committee said the policy is not temporary but a long-term plan to cut Nigeria’s dependence on foreign exchange for petroleum.

It added that the initiative is not a temporary or time-bound intervention but a key policy directive designed to support sustainable local refining and bolster energy security.

The statement read, “The Technical Sub-Committee on the Crude and Refined Product Sales in Naira initiative convened an update meeting on Tuesday to review progress and address ongoing implementation matters.

“The stakeholders reaffirmed the government’s continued commitment to the full implementation of this strategic initiative, as directed by the Federal Executive Council.

“Thus, the Crude and Refined Product Sales in Naira initiative is not a temporary or time-bound intervention, but a key policy directive designed to support sustainable local refining, bolster energy security, and reduce reliance on foreign exchange in the domestic petroleum market.”

The cost of a six-month visit visa has also risen from £100 to £115.

Other visa categories, including work and family visas, have also been adjusted.

In a statement, the UK government said the increase was necessary to sustain its immigration system and fund public sector wages.

“It is right and fair to increase visa application fees to ensure that the costs of running the immigration system are met by those who benefit from it,” the Home Office stated.

The increase has sparked concerns among students and travel consultants.

Adeola Ogunsanya, a Nigerian travel consultant, described the hike as a major challenge for many aspiring students.

Tunde Ajayi, a prospective UK student, also expressed concerns about the new rates.

“I have been saving up for my master’s degree, but with this extra cost, I might have to reconsider my plans,” he said.

However, analysts suggest that the new rates could lead to a decline in applications, especially from students facing financial difficulties.

Despite concerns from affected applicants, the UK government insists that the adjustments are necessary.

“The changes will help maintain a sustainable and efficient immigration system,” the Home Office reiterated.

The Delta State Government has directed the immediate withdrawal of the query issued to a student of the School of Nursing Sciences, Agbor, Osato Edobor, over her involvement in a viral social media video during the recent visit of First Lady Oluremi Tinubu.

In a statement on Friday via X, the state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, confirmed the withdrawal of the disciplinary query, stressing that the government is committed to upholding the rights of students in health-related programmes and ensuring a conducive learning environment.

“The Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, has directed the immediate withdrawal of the query issued to Nursing Student Osato Edobor by the Provost of the School of Nursing Sciences, Agbor,” the ministry said in a public notice.

Speaking further in a video statement, Onojaeme assured the public that the government had no intention of victimising any student over the incident.

“On the trending letter of query issued to the student of the School of Nursing, Agbor, I’ve instructed the provost to withdraw the letter. We don’t want to victimise any of the students,” he said.

The commissioner also revealed that he had personally reached out to the affected student to confirm the withdrawal of the disciplinary action.

“I’ve also reached out to the student in question, and the student has confirmed to me that the letter was withdrawn late yesterday night,” he stated.

PoliticsLanding Cost Of Petrol Increases To ₦‎885 Per Litre by olatade(op): 8:27am On Mar 27, 2025
The landing cost of imported premium motor spirit increased to N885 per litre on Wednesday from N797.

The Major Energy Marketers Association of Nigeria disclosed the rise in the landing cost of petrol in its daily energy bulletin released on Wednesday.

This represents 88 increase from the N797 per litre landing cost of petrol last week.

The implication is that the price of imported petrol at Nigerian filling stations may increase to about N1,000 per litre from between N940 and N970.

The current landing cost of petrol is N797 compared to the ex-depot price of Dangote Refinery’s petrol, which stood at N815 per litre. To this end, Dangote Petrol is sold at a retail price in MRS fillings at N860 and N880 per litre in Lagos and Abuja.

Meanwhile, Dangote Refinery’s decision last week Wednesday to halt petroleum products sales in Naira may impact the company’s fresh price template.

Going by the development in the country’s downstream sector, the prices of Dangote Petrol and import fuel are expected to go up in the coming days.

On Tuesday, the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria warned Nigerians against panic buying amid petrol price uncertainty.

PETROAN urged the Nigerian government to continue its Naira-for-Crude deal with Dangote Refinery and at the same time ensure fair pricing competition in the country’s downstream sector.

“PETROAN has also noted reports circulating in the media that the temporary suspension of sales in naira by Dangote Refinery is the reason for the panic buying.

“We wish to reassure the public that this is not a justification for panic buying,” it said.

PETROAN further kicked against the sale of petroleum products in dollars in the Nigerian local market

PoliticsBill To Remove Immunity For Vice President And Governors Passes Second Reading by olatade(op): 2:50pm On Mar 26, 2025
Bill to Remove Immunity for Vice President and Governors Passes Second Reading

A bill seeking to strip the vice president, governors, and their deputies of constitutional immunity has passed its second reading in the House of Representatives.

The proposed amendment aims to strengthen accountability, curb corruption, and eliminate impunity in public office.

The bill is part of a broader constitutional review process, with 42 amendment bills advancing on Wednesday. This follows the approval of 39 similar bills the previous day, bringing the total to 81.

Among the other notable proposals is a bill to separate the offices of the Attorney-General of the Federation and state attorneys-general from the Minister of Justice and state commissioners for justice.

Another bill seeks to grant citizenship rights to foreign spouses of Nigerian women and establish a minimum quota for youth and women in specific government appointments.

The House also considered bills advocating the creation of new states, including Ijebu, Ife-Ijesa, Tiga, Orlu, and Etiti.

The proposed amendments were not debated and now move forward for further legislative action.

PoliticsSale Of Crude In Naira Extension Likely As Committee Meets by olatade(op): 9:10am On Mar 24, 2025
sector as the NNPCL struggles to reconcile its obligations to foreign creditors with its commitment under the Naira-for-Crude deal.

A source close to the committee explained that despite the current difficulties, the transaction is not expected to be permanently suspended.

It said: “The meeting is essentially to deliberate on how to salvage the situation, with a focus on how NNPCL can fulfill its obligations to its creditors while also maintaining its commitment to local refiners. It’s about striking a balance,” the source said.

The Nation further revealed that the NNPCL’s current inability to meet its crude supply obligations to local refiners stems from pre-existing deals that have pledged much of the country’s crude output in advance.

“NNPCL had issues with crude availability because it had already committed a significant quantity of the nation’s crude to its creditors ahead of production.”

According to another source at the Federal Ministry of Finance, the Naira-for-Crude arrangement was the result of a Federal Executive Council (FEC) decision, and thus cannot be abandoned casually.

Also billed for discussion today is Nigeria’s oil production quota under the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

The NNPCL is under pressure to ramp up crude production to meet domestic demand, but has been hesitant to breach the quota allocated by OPEC, citing potential diplomatic and market repercussions.

“NNPCL is under pressure to provide more crude for local refining, but doing so would mean exceeding the OPEC quota. The company is not comfortable with that option,” the source explained.

Exceeding the quota could risk sanctions or strained relations within the OPEC bloc, an outcome the NNPCL is keen to avoid.

The meeting is expected to focus on reconciling three key interests: fulfilling contractual obligations to international creditors, ensuring steady crude supply to domestic refineries, and preserving Nigeria’s standing within OPEC.

The stakes of today’s meeting were raised last week when Dangote Petroleum Refinery announced its intention to suspend the sale of refined petroleum products in Naira. The announcement, industry observers noted, has triggered anxiety across the energy sector, as the Naira-for-Crude deal had been central to the government’s strategy for improving foreign exchange liquidity and supporting the local currency.

Mr. Edun, who chairs the main committee, has called for an urgent meeting with key stakeholders, including the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Zacch Adedeji, who heads a sub-committee focused on fiscal matters linked to the policy.

Industry analysts have warned that failure to resolve the impasse could have far-reaching implications, including disruptions to domestic petrol supply, further depreciation of the naira and erosion of investors’ confidence in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

He installs CCTV cameras for his male and female clients in Abuja.

He is very good and so in high demand.

After installing this CCTV, he goes back to his house to unlawfully gain access to the login credentials of his female clients because he enjoys watching naked women without their consent.

Using these details, he accessed the camera from his phone to watch explicit footage of his female clients in their vulnerable moments without their consent, watching them move around their house naked, have sex with their partners, and masturbate with their sexual toys.

Abraham did all that and more, just to satisfy his voyeurism craving.

A modern-day peeping Tom.

One of his female clients suspected her camera login details were compromised, and that was how he was caught.

PoliticsFuel Price: FG Schedules Meeting Over Naira-For-Crude Deal With Dangote by olatade(op): 7:40am On Mar 21, 2025
There are indications that the Federal Government’s Naira-for-crude panel will be reconvening a meeting on Monday to consider continuation of the crude sales deal with Dangote Refinery amid petroleum products price uncertainty.

Reliable sources in the Ministries of Petroleum Resources and Finance, who preferred anonymity, made this known on Thursday.

This comes after Dangote Refinery on Wednesday announced the suspension of its petroleum products sales in Naira.

Dangote Refinery’s decision to suspend petrol product sales in Naira indicated that there is a stalemate in discussion between the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited and the Dangote Refinery over the continuation of the Naira-for-crude sale contract.

However, official sources familiar with the matter told DAILY POST that the scheme may continue.

It was confirmed that NNPCL faced a crude availability crisis following the fact that the state-owned firm had pre-sold large volumes to foreign creditors under its crude-backed loans.

“The scheme won’t end. The challenging point is the issue of crude availability, with NNPC claiming it has pre-sold large volumes of crude.

“The committee agreed to reconvene on Monday (next week) to review options that the Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission has been mandated to come up with. The committee is trying to dimension solution options,” the official stated.

Recall that the committee last week met at the Ministry of Finance Headquarters in Abuja to assess developments and reaffirm commitments to the naira-for-crude policy framework.

The meeting had in attendance the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun (who joined virtually); the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Dr. Zacch Adedeji; the Chief Financial Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company; the Executive Commissioner of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (who also joined virtually); and other stakeholders.

Reacting to the development, the National President of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria, Billy Gillis-Harry, said its members will not hesitate to seek alternative sources of petroleum products.

“The market is making preparations for any surprises. So, if there are surprises, we’ll have alternatives to go to,” he said.

On his part, the president of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Hammed Fashola, appealed for government intervention in the continuation of the Naira-for-crude policy in order to maintain the tempo of the petrol price template.

“I would like to advise the FG to look into the agreement with Dangote again to maintain the tempo of the prices of petroleum products,” he said

PoliticsViral Video: Corps Member Spoke Out Of Frustration, Don’t Go After Her – TUC by olatade(op): 7:01am On Mar 17, 2025
The Trade Union Congress, TUC, has called on the federal government not to go after a female corps member, who allegedly criticized the current administration of President Bola Tinubu in a viral video.

Recall that the corps member raised an alarm on Sunday that officials of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, were threatening her for her criticism of Tinubu’s administration.

TUC President, Festus Osifo, who was a guest on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, said that the corps member spoke out of frustration, urging the government not to go after her but to be tolerant of critics.

The Lagos-based NYSC member, Ushie Uguamaye, had taken to TikTok to criticise Tinubu’s government over hardship Nigerians face as a result of the administration’s economic reforms.

Her video went viral and got the attention of NYSC officials whom she later accused of calling her and issuing a threat to her to delete the video.

Meanwhile, NYSC is yet to release an official statement regarding the issue.
“They (government) have to develop this resilience to understand that people are frustrated, people are hungry, people are tired. So, if they decide to vent, I strongly believe that the government should not personalise it and come after such individuals.

“Imagine a young lady carrying out her NYSC function, what does she really have to do to bring down government? So, it is about personal frustration that she has aired.

“So, I think that the government has to persevere much more, they have to be more tolerant, and they have to have this deep level of patient with Nigerians because people are passing through a lot as it stands today,” TUC boss said

Osifo, however, advised critics to always criticise the government within the expected norm and with some level of decorum.

In a statement released earlier on Sunday, Amnesty International also condemned the alleged threats and intimidation being faced by the Lagos-based corps member.

It said that the Federal Government must stop threatening individuals and groups who criticise the current administration.

“The Nigerian authorities must stop responding with violence and threats to individuals and groups who express dissenting opinions — in utter disregard for the Nigerian constitution and international law. Holding and voicing dissenting views is not a crime,” the organisation wrote in a statement on its X handle.
