Health / Re: Lagos Ebola Patients Neglected,critically Ill – Relatives,colleagues by OlawumiX: 5:18am On Aug 15, 2014
While I sympathize with the isolated patients, and hold government responsible for our weak/failed health system. The medical personnel who held this press conference are just plain hypocrites, absence of electricity, sanitation and lack attention is how they have been running the hospitals before now. People have been dying of these causes way before now, when did they actually care? Someone said an American doctor has been footing bills what have they as colleges and family been doing? For as long as I can remember doctors have told us that there is no need for anyone to travel abroad for medical treatment because there professionals here- where the professionals now.

Nigerian government needs to do more, much more, the present crisis has exposed the fallacy of our health system. They need to spend money and put policy in place to fight this situation, I am aware that the staffs of Doctors without borders and the CDC are on ground and are actively involved in this but what is the role of the 1000s of staffs of the federal ministry of health in this?

Olawumx,

and what if he wins? will you leave the country for us? because it looks like he is going to win!

everybody has his bad and his good, but is his good better than his bad? yes, i will prefer an incorruptible patriot to a dishonest, clueless coward!

if you are a woman and you are told to chose between 2 men - one smokes, drinks, takes good care of a woman but does not beat a woman or cheats or a man that does not drink, smoke, but beats and cheats on his woman. which one will you take?

Leave? where did that come from, and if he wins, I will pray that the Lord touch his heart, but before he even has a chance I will speak against him and everyone like him.

And why must I choose the lesser of two evils? Why pick an evil man at all??

Why must we desperately find reasons to bring Burhari or any other person to power?

Leaders (past, aspiring or potential) have to justify themselves in their actions, they have to be above board and not be banking on our forgiveness or understandings for the failings

Really, I'm amazed by some ppls posts! Shagari gov was toppled by Buhari because of the intolerably high level of corruption. He dealt with corruption as a whole. Within his short stay in office, he reduced inflation and made ppl accountable for their actions. If he did not tolerate corruption and made everyone to be equal b4 the law irrespective of your status in the society as a military, definitely, the likes of Ibori(a PDP guy being tried abroad while Nigeria minister of justice is trying to shield him from facing the bcs he financed Yar'adua/Jonathan rigging to office), Babangida(another PDP that looted Nigeria treasury dry such that he took loans to be looted after the 'gulf' oil revenue disappeared into his pocket) and his boys and so many fraudulent guys trained by PDP would face the wrath of law by the time he(Buhari) comes back as a civilian. He would recovered as much as possible of the looted money by all these PDP senators and use it to better the lives of Nigerians by working with credible Nigerian professionals to turn around the economy of the nation.

U know he is coming back by ppls votes and not 'gun' so expect a civil approach to resolving Nigeria problems from him this 2011.

THINK DEEPLY AND DON'T LET PDP BY YOUR FUTURE WITH PEANUT

I am equally amazed by what some people believe, perhaps you didn't live through the Buhari months or you were too young to understand what's happening, the fact which is verifiable is that things got worse during that period. Buhari's regime as well as all the subsequent military regimes that followed, killed the dignity and self respect of this nation, the destroyed our economy and society as well as promoted the get rich quick/by any means mentality prevalent today, for all his shout he actually archived nothing except to have consummated a personal desire for leadership.

Leaders like Buhari should never be given a second chance, they can be forgiven but NEVER allowed to hold power- He cant handle it.
Politics / Re: Vice Presidential Debate - What Do You Think As You Watch by OlawumiX: 7:38pm On Mar 13, 2011
I still cant understand why I have to take Buhari serious he has ruled this country, against our wishes, he started the police brutality we see about today.  He offered us nothing for all the months he spent in power, and dont event give me that he was overthrown story, if he didnt start the cycle Shagari would probably have completed his tenure.  He claimed they came because of corruption but by the time we were free from them they have distroyed our economy and made corruption  a way of life.  He has to take responsibility for that.

Family / Re: Rats: How Do I Get Rid Of These Rats! by OlawumiX: 10:45am On Feb 25, 2011
@tithe

I have read and laughed till I cant sit again.  I have had this problem before and I was able to get rid of the rats, heres what I did.

In my case the whole house was infested, the first step is to identify points of entry
1.  Identify all possible points of entry, doorways, windows, cracked walls, roof etc.
2.  Plug the leak, block every entry not meant for humans, ensure that all windows have mosquito nets, for the door ways you need to make cement slab to cover spaces below the door, dont use wood, they will just eat it. Ensure the cement is at least 1 inches high close the door while cement is not set so the slurry would fill all gaps and tight.  Do this for every door in the house not just the entrance/exits
3.  Clear the passage/Corridor completely so it is completely free and well illuminated
4  Close all the doors leaving only the entrance open, then work from room to room with the door to that room only open and the room well illuminated, clean out the room carefully, upturn disturb and rearrange everything kill all the rats you come across, others would run out of the room into the passage. When do with the room, close the door firmly, kill/drive out every rat in the passage/corridor. Repeat for every other room, toilets, bathrooms, Kitchen, stores etc,
5. It is very likely that 1 or 2 would remain, so you would need to repeat the same procedure again the next day.

To forever be free from the rats these rules are essential
a.  Never leave cooked food/left over exposed anywhere in the house
b.  Store all uncooked food stuff in containers with tight lids
c.  Never leave any door open
d.  Always be on the alert when opening the entrance/exit doors, expect a rat to want to get in from the outside at all times
d.  where possible ensure that there is no space underneath furniture, where it cant be avoided make sure that there is no opening into the furniture and that the space is clear
e.  Keep the whole house very clean

Its hard work but if you keep this up even if a rat enters the house it would leave on its own because there would be no breeding spots

Politics / Re: State By State Figures Of Inec Voters Registration by OlawumiX: 11:49am On Feb 23, 2011
honeric01:

Some posters are just typing and making up numbers based on rumors, the Northerners don't joke with registering and voting, if you doubt me, try to get a hold of any of the clips from a media house during election and also during registration, they all go out en-mass to vote, they even go with their babies and sometimes with their backside, horses, goats and anything living, they don't stay at home during registration or voting.

So no matter how you look at it, the northerners are still going to be more than the southerner even if UN come to do the counting themselves.

I fully agree with you on Northerners voting en mass. If only Jega would deliver half of his promises and babies and the like cant vote,

Not exactly,  figures below.  But note that the data available (https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/ni.html : Age Structure) for Nigeria suggests that 41.5% of the population are 15Years and below, the Zamfara suggests that 53.6% are 18Years and above,  same trend and even worse in some states.

For as many are still asking what is wrong with not using the DDC machines. Here are a dew reasons
1. Nigeria has spent 94Billion or so on them
2. Jega asked for this 'Machines' initially
3. It suggests to us that Jega has ulterior motives, maybe ;
a. He is a thief
b. He wants to manipulate the system
c. He is incompetent
d. Theres a pipper somewhere dictating the tune
e. or all of the above
4. Even if DDC cant be used for evoting, how do we accredit voters and invalidate double voters like Jega has been shouting and crying.

All in all either due to incompetence or because he is dubious Jega has finished us if he takes us for this ride. I wonder where the conscience of a man lies and he can calmly dump 90+Billion
Politics / Re: Interview: Pastor Tunde Bakare Speaks About Why He Accepted Buhari's Nomination by OlawumiX: 5:00pm On Feb 02, 2011
For those who believe that Buhari is the candidate that would unseat the PDP, that Gen Buhari or Pst Bakare are the credible and competent candidates, I beg to disagree.

Whenever I hear people saying they expect Buhari to carry the day I smile with a quick shake of the Head - Please lets get real, he neither has the political clot nor machinery to win any election outside of his immediate vicinity. As for Pst Bakare, I guess he has to contest first to find out how popular he really is.

As for Sharia/OIC etc, I can only make my judgment on what is proven fact, that the General has at some time when politics wasn't on the horizon made some very categorical statement as to his preferences and (in)tolerance. Everything else is just the reconsideration of a man who just discovered that where he is going is much larger than where he was.

Jonathan is a good man, a great Nigerian, but not the right man for the job.

We need a leader that can not be intimidated by anyone on this planet, a leader that can make his own decision, a leader that completely understands the importance of unity, a leader that has records of great accomplishments, a leader that is tough like a dragon, a leader that can clearly express himself and more than anything else, a leader that has a complete respect of all Nigerians.
Jonathan is not this leader; For the love of God, Mr president should step down immediately!

EO 12958 DECL: 09/23/2018
TAGS PREL, KPAO, PHUM, BM
SUBJECT: DEMARCHE REQUEST: REPLACEMENT OF SRSG GAMBARI FOR
BURMA MISSION
Classified By: IO">IO">IO PDAS James Warlick. Reasons 1.4 (b) and (d).

1. (U) This is an action request. See para. 4.

2. (C) Department views the "good offices" mission of the UN Secretary General's Special Representative (SRSG) to Burma as an important vehicle for encouraging democratic progress in Burma. Consequently, Department has viewed with growing concern the lack of progress on core political steps that the UNSC called on Burma to take such as the immediate release of political prisoners and the opening of a meaningful, time-bound political dialogue with democratic and ethnic minority leaders, in particular, with Aung San Suu Kyi (ASSK), over the course of SRSG Gambari's four missions to Rangoon. Indeed, it appears that Gambari's access to regime officials and ability to secure results has only contracted over the course of these missions. His access to democratic leaders has been constrained by both the regime and more recently a loss of confidence in Gambari among leaders of the democracy movement.

3. (C) Gambari appears unrealistically upbeat, pursuing and reporting progress on peripheral matters (e.g., a possible economic forum, the possible placement of a UN staff member in Rangoon) that are a distraction from what the Security Council has articulated as critical goals and identified as Gambari's mandate.

4. (C) Considering the key role of the good offices mission and Gambari's inability to secure significant progress from the Burmese regime, USUN is asked to demarche SYG Ban or Ambassador Kim to seek Gambari's dismissal as SRSG for Burma. This demarche should occur as soon as practical.

5. (C) Taking into account Gambari's usefulness in his concurrent role as UN advisor on the International Compact with Iraq, as well as SYG Ban's likely sensitivities in regard to a possible dismissal, Department provides the following talking points (not/not to be left as a non- paper) for use by USUN in this demarche:

6. (C/rel to UN) Begin points:

-- Over time, the United States has become increasingly concerned that the UN good offices mission in regard to Burma is in dire jeopardy.

-- Special Representative Gambari's fourth and latest trip to Burma continued a disturbing pattern of regime-managed itineraries; restricted access to key regime officials and activists; and complete lack of progress on the critical issues that form the core of Mr. Gambari's mandate: the opening of a meaningful and time-bound dialogue with democratic and ethnic minority leaders, including Aung San Suu Kyi, toward democratization and national reconciliation, and the immediate and unconditional release of all political prisoners.

-- While the main responsibility for this lack of progress should be attributed to regime intransigence, Mr. Gambari has not been willing to acknowledge it. This lack of progress, Mr. Gambari's inappropriate claims of success regarding peripheral issues, and his unwillingness to press the regime more forcefully for progress have caused us to conclude that his continued involvement undermines the good offices mission and should therefore be ended.

-- We have no wish to embarrass Mr. Gambari and have no intent to link any removal with a lack of progress in Burma, but we would ask that you find a way to terminate gracefully his participation in this particular mission. In particular, we cannot support further travel to Burma for discussions with regime leadership by Mr. Gambari as part of the good offices mission.

-- We urge you not to rush to name a replacement. There have been a series of Special Representatives, none of whom have succeeded due to regime intransigence. Absent some sign that the regime is willing to engage seriously, we fear appointment of a new envoy could actually encourage the regime and some of its friends to continue to emphasize process over substance. As you requested, however, we are willing to share ideas of possible candidates as you consider next steps.

-- There is talk of your ramping up your personal involvement on Burma, or perhaps even visiting. We think you could play an important role but understand you will have to consider carefully how you would engage. Although a trip by you could be useful, we believe it's critical that the groundwork be laid so you can be confident that your visit will result in tangible progress.

-- We understand that the Burmese are unlikely to make major concessions as a condition for your visit. However, we do not believe you should go without a strong indication ahead of time that your visit would coincide with some tangible, positive steps. Steps that we recommend you insist upon are: the release of high-profile political prisoners; the release of Aung San Suu Kyi or at least the easing of her house arrest; insistence that you and any subsequent Special Representative will be able to determine your own schedules, including meeting with Aung San Suu Kyi, political prisoners, activists, and whomever else you wish; and that you will have access to the senior most leadership of the Burmese regime; agreement on specific steps to begin a dialogue with Aung San Suu Kyi and other democratic and ethnic leaders; and a guarantee that any Special Representative will be granted a multiple entry visa.

End points. RICE

The wikileaked cables are indeed an eye opener, while we know most of these before now, theres a gratifying feeling that we know and they (USG, GEJ and CO) that we know, theres not doubting what everyone knows.

Its a pity to find out that US has the audacity to tell GJ to stop saying that AbdulMutalibs case was isolated, and to make policy for Nigeria in the Name of suggestions look at the reference to OBJ, they even want GJ to being a puppet to OBJ and whose puppet would he be then.

Permit me to say my 2 cent here.

Nobody likes to be called a racist - that implies its not a good thing

The truth would always be the truth

Lets all try to look at the facts

Emeagwali by genius or crook got himself recognized as a foremost scientist, Time, Bill Gate and the BBC all believed it and so does countless Nigerians and Non Nigerians. Most of us derived our celebration of this man from the accolades from the above source and a great deal of what he told us himself.

Now that there is a tussle over the correctness of these information I think rather than accusing each other lest do a little bit of investigative work:

For Emeagwali to be "a father of the internet" he has to have done something that qualifies him and not that somebody tells us he is "a father of the internet" much of the myth of this man is based on the above claim. The question now is does his winning presentation (Thats no small feat by the way) for the Gordon Bell prize rate have an impact on the internet? I dont have access to the presentation yet but I intend to request for it. Heres a simple way to reach an inference lets:,
1. get the names of undisputed fathers of the internet
2. look at their education records
3. look at exactly what they've done to qualify them as a father of the Internet
4. look at further works/applications and other presentations and publications by them
5. look for credits for their work and who is crediting them with the work
6. look for references - scientific references

Guys really if we put our effort into this rather than just arguing I think we would have done a great service to the man and the country and justice to all parties involved

No matter what GEJ would win the PDP primaries, this arrangement just made it easier for him. Atiku's Press Conference cant erase who he really is, highlighting Goodluck's failures wont either, he is a common thief as proven in the US investigation of several bribery allegations

de-moore:

I think Igbos will benefit more from Atiku Presidedncy than GEJ. He is seriously stripping off Igbos high potfolios in his administration. eg IG of police, what do u think?

I sincerely think we need to move ahead from race issues, these guys dont consider that when the loot, lets alway look for the best man and not just the best man from a particular race

LINAC actually means linear accelerator. It is used to give radiation doses to patients with cancer for therapeutic and /or palliative management. Monte Carlo is the simulator that allows one to build the accelerator using manufacturer's spec and obtain measurements from the simulated machine.
I need the simulator and info on how to build the accelerator from scratch.
It is actually my MSc project.

You need to get you facts right or straight; either was the Monte Carlo Simulation Method is a mathematical tool widely used in Numerical Analysis and Optimization problems, these themselves are tools used for design/simulation applications like the one you are trying to describe above.

You need to have a proper definition of the problem, the rules and the objective function clearly defined. Rather than programming from scratch you can use MATLAB.
