Marjorie Hemmerde is dating a man 33 years younger, but no one is accusing her of robbing the cradle.

Hemmerde is 106 and her "boy toy," Gavin Crawford, is 73. The two have managed to find love despite their massive age difference.



The two met three years ago at Kew Gardens, an old folks home in the Australian town of Kew, Victoria, and are now inseparable, according to News.com.au.

"We just sort of melted into each other," she said. "We get along like old friends, the age gap doesn't seem to matter."

Neither Hemmerde nor Crawford have been married, but he said true love was worth waiting for.

"Marjorie is very outgoing and has good outlook in life," he said, according to the Daily Telegraph. "She is always very cheerful and appreciative and we laugh together all the time. I think we both have learned that life is far too short not to enjoy it."

The Enugu State police command has recorded another breakthrough in its battle against criminal elements who specializes in raping old women at Opi, Nsukka community in the state.

This followed the arrest of one Nnanna Osondu, who had confessed to being among the perpetrators of the evil act.

The police spokesman in Enugu State, DSP Ebere Amaraizu, while confirming the arrest said the suspect was apprehended with the help of members of the community who responded to distress call from a victim.

He said luck ran out on the suspect on Sunday at about 4.30pm when he attempted to rape another old woman during which the victim raised alarm that drew the attention of some villagers.
He said the villagers contacted the police immediately and the suspect was arrested.

The PPRO said upon interrogation, the suspect revealed that “he used to go to homes of some of the identified victims forcefully at night and that he is now regretting every bit of his actions and prayed for forgiveness.

“The suspect revealed that he specializes in the raping of old women in the town, which according to him is normally carried out in the night time by laying siege against any of his targeted victim along the road while armed with his sharp kitchen knife, with which he usually threatened his victims any time he confronts them so that they will always succumb to his sexual assault”.

The suspect also reportedly disclosed that he had raped many old women in the community and that he was not doing it for ritual purposes but to satisfy his sexual urge since young women cannot succumb to his wish and since he cannot lay his hands on any person in form of marriage.

The suspect equally claimed that he abandons any of his victims that showed stiff resistance.

Amaraizu said the operatives of the state Criminal and Investigations Department had commenced a full scale investigations on the incident, just as the command thanked good spirited members of the community for their prompt report and assistance.?

Supporters of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio, in Ikot Ekpene senatorial district of the state, have begun the process of recalling their representative in the Senate, Senator Aloysius Etok.

The recall moves followed the alleged refusal of the senator to apologise to Akpabio, with whom he had been at loggerheads over the jockeying for the senatorial position in the 2015 elections.

The senator who was reported to have accused the governor of a plot to kill him, among other grievous allegations, was given a week ultimatum to apologise to[b] Akpabio[/b] or face sanction.

The state Commissioner for Housing and Urban Renewal, Mr. Emmanuel Enoidem, yesterday confirmed the recall bid at a news conference, saying it will start tomorrow with collection of signatures from the people of the district.

He said the people of Annang extraction had never looked down on the Ibibios in the council area or in the state as a whole, adding that it was based on such bond of brotherliness that Etok was given the senatorial ticket for two consecutive times.

He described as unfortunate the statement made by the governor that he would appoint Etok his campaign manager when vying for the senatorial ticket, which made the senator to make inflammatory statements.

Nonetheless, he said if the senator had felt insulted, he should have consulted with the elders of the district and ask for apology from the governor rather than making inflammatory statements against Akpabio.

“We will not support Etok in 2015. What we are doing has no ethnic coloration or sentiment, it has to do with a failed and insulting representation and a man who does not recognise the people,”, he said.

The commissioner explained that the signatures being canvassed for would not attract any financial benefits to those that would sign as was being speculated by the senator.

“We don’t have any tension in Ikot Ekpene senatorial district; what we are doing is lawful and within the contemplation of the constitution. We cannot send Senator Aloysius Etok back to the Senate in 2015. He has failed us woefully; he has disappointed us deeply; he has insulted us gravely," he stated.

“In short, what we are doing now is to recall him because we gave him seven days to apologise and he refused. We are going to recall him from the Senate and the time we gave expired on Wednesday last week.

“So as we talk now, we are initiating a procedure to recall him from the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria ,” he stated.
