A mountain-sized asteroid which crosses paths with the Earth every three years has been discovered by a Russian scientist.
Vladimir Lipunov, a professor at Moscow State University, said the space rock, named '2014 UR116', poses no immediate threat.
But he warned that it could hit the Earth with an explosion 1,000 times greater than the surprise 2013 impact of a bus-sized meteor in Russia. That object entered Earth’s atmosphere over the city of Chelyabinsk, resulting in a series of ferocious blasts that blew out windows and damaged buildings for miles around.
Prof Lipunov said it is difficult to calculate the orbit of big rocks like '2014 UR116' because their trajectories are constantly being changed by the gravitational pull of other planets.
And he warns that its existence proves how little scientists know about other asteroids which could cause harm to the planet.

Barely 24 hours after the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Electoral Appeals Committee upheld the 30 September polls that produced the Amaju Pinnick-led executive, the Chairman of the Committee, Okey Ajunwa, has nullified the same elections.
According to Premiumtimes, Mr. Ajunwa’s ruling contradicts the ruling of three other members of the committee who upheld the polls on Wednesday.
Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Thursday, Mr. Ajunwa said other committee members who “hastily” upheld the September polls are not legal practitioners and were ignorant of the law.

A couple’s night out ended in horror as the husband accidentally crashed his car, killing his wife and mother of his children.

31-year-old Amanda Notebaert of Florida, died after her husband, Matthew Notebaert, crashed into a canal.

Police said that the woman was sitting on her husband's lap and the two were not wearing clothes from the waist down at the time of the accident.

The couple had attended a concert that fateful night, and now the police have confirmed that they were intoxicated when the accident occurred.

According to TMZ, a felony warrant has been issued for the rapper's arrest after an alleged attack on actor Chris Massey after he apparently broke into his brother Kyle's home.

The entertainment website says that the siblings' attorney told them a judge had issued the warrant and claims that the 21-year-old star has been charged with felony home invasion and robbery.

A report by TMZ earlier this week stated that Twist allegedly broke into Kyle's home and along with four other men and pummeled Chris with brass knuckles.

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos yesterday heard how a dismissed Nigerian Police officer, Victor Afam Banor, earned salaries illegally from 15 different police commands in the country.
The accused also allegedly stole N20 million meant for salaries of officers of the Enugu State Police Command, the Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Abba, told the court.
Banor was dismissed while serving at the Umunede Police Division in Delta State for allegedly stealing an exhibit vehicle in a criminal case under investigation.
He, however, escaped from police detention and turned up at the Enugu Command with a falsified signature, claiming to still be a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).
