lots have been said about my community ofoni but let me drop the facts the way they really are. it is true that ofoni is part of tarakiri clan in sagbama which makes it an ijaw settlement only wonder is that the ofoni people speak urhobo. ofoni is part of tarakiri clan because they are sons of tarakiri just like the other ijaw communities under the clan. what make the ofoni people to speak urhobo instead of ijaw is because their father tarakiri had them through an urhobo princess. she taught her children the urhobo language. after the death of tarakiri, the children went and settled at various locations and so did ofoni. urhobo as a language became more engraved in these sons of tarakiri after their mother warned then not to marry ijaw women oweing to maltreatment she received from the other wives of tarakiri..so for many years the children married outside ijaw and mainly urhobo women and urhobo as a language became part of them..Today, ofoni is classified as an ijaw community by birthright and that is why it is under the tarakiri clan. the urhobo they speak is just a means of communication and doesnt deprive them of their birthright though they also enjoy some royalties from ughele which is their mothers home.
