Why plantain are so tiny these days....

I don't know if you have observe that these days plantain are so tiny in market, this is not because of anything just because of lack of water or rainfall...

If you have opportunity of visiting any Plantain Plantation this time around, to set up your own may not be interesting you, this is because the farm will look somehow while some Plantain stand will be falling down. There is no any other reason for this just because of lack of water. Unless the if your farm is in swamp area. If you have swamp farm your farm will be look nice now while your own plantain bunches will be big.
But only few farmers have access to swamp land. Majority are cultivate there fruit on upland.

If you are experiencing all these, don't worry in a meter of time it will change for good.

I also observe this in market, thank u for info. How is market now in case I have plantain for sell? I just want to know in case my plantain ready during this period. Hope it will not be possible to me because I am planning to set up my own farm this year. I would have done that by now but I am waiting for little fund to commence the documents and co.

I will like to harvest my plantain during May June, I think planting this period is best advice. However, can I plant inside swamp land this time around, the land has some volume of water now but this water dry off during dry season, can I plant on such land? Please advise

I will.to set up new plantain plantation in Ogun Egba axis of Ogun state, hope that area is good for plantain farming before I will put in my money, or can come and visit the land for before I will start working on it.

How much is cost of clearing 1 acre now? I will need workers who can clear up till 3 acres of land. Can you help me mobilize labourers or workers who can do the clearing for me. There is temporary accommodation for them to stay pending d period of the work. I will be expecting your feel back.

Manual Clearing Method

This method involve use of crude equipment such as Hoe, cutlass and many more. Although this method is stressful but it is the best practice method for clearing. You can hire Cotonou boys, Egede boys or Ogoja boys. They will do the job for you perfectly but if you hired Yoruba, Igbo or Hausa boys to do the clearing for you, be prepared for war. lol sorry na joke i dey joke ooooo. I dont spoil your business but am talk from experience.

If you are planting on large scale of land, you need to hired as many as you can to do the job for you on specific period of time. This because as you are progressing in clearing, those place already will start growing weed again, if care is not taken this can lead into double work for you.That is why you need to hire as many as possible able men to do the job for you in a specific period of time.

Similarly, you can apply clearing and planting method. This mean as you are progressing in planting some of your men are do the planting too.

With this method you archived your goal. The next is to prepare for Spacing your field for planting.

Thank God for today rainfall. it has been raining in my side since 9am today and the rain has been heavy since. My corn and my plantain will be back alive.

How much are they selling plantain in local market around you?
Which market can I sell at a good price and do I go about selling it?

These and more are questions people been asking me around this season of harvest.
I have discussed these times without numbers how to go handle the sales and marketing of your plantains after harvest.

There are 3 major factors that determine the sales prices. These are :
1. The sizes of the plantain,
2. The location of markets you sell your plantain.
3. season you harvest your Plantain.

1. Sizes these depends on how big is your Plantain bunch. This can be achieve by taken two steps, if you get a good breed like my own, which is available for procurement at anytime, and get a suitable soil to cultivate it.
This size is very important to determine how much you will sell it. If you have small bunches, I will advise you should not sell it directly, you may decide to process it into chips and sell it directly.
From my practical experience I have 5 bunches of plantain which are very small and I decided to process it Into Plantain chips, after I remove money for vegetables and other to process plantain chips, I have extra profit of N45,000 from 5 bunches not up till half bunches. If I decided to take it to Market to sell it can't sell a dozen more than 25k no matter the season. Therefore the size and add t
value to your products will bring you more money.
