Three hundred and twenty six (326) Nigerian graduates Wednesday commenced training under the Graduate Internship Scheme (GIS) of the Subsidy Reinvestment Programme (SURE-P). The number chosen are a far cry from the over 5,500 graduates that applied for the Scheme. The Graduate Internship Scheme (GIS), which is a fallout of the protest that greeted the January 1, 2012 fuel hike by government was launched in October, 2012 to create opportunity for graduates to be attached to firms\organisations where they can work and get experience for a year and also enjoy a monthly stipend of N18,000 which would be paid into their account. According to Project Director, Graduate Internship Scheme of SURE-P, Mr. Peter Papka, GIS is targeted at strengthening the capacity of graduates to enable them get job placements. "GIS creates an avenue for interns to go into the firms, learn the technique of a working environment, build their skill within the sector where they have been deployed on the basis of their current qualification. "That will create new avenues to determine whether where you entered is the sector you want to remain. It is an opportunity for you to also demonstrate to the firm that yes I have something to offer therefore I am worthy to be retained by the organisation." Mr. Papka disclosed that the Scheme would run simultaneously in Abuja and Lagos as some of the beneficiaries have already been deployed to various firms. The Project Director GIS of SURE-P pointed out that the Scheme can only achieve its desired result with the support of the private sector. "It is clearly evident that government alone cannot deal with the issue of addressing youth employment challenges that we have and particularly build the manpower base that will help us achieve vision 2020 we have set for ourselves as a nation." Of the firms that applied to be part of the Graduate Internship Scheme, 50 were considered for Lagos while Abuja had 40. The major challenge of the GIS according to Mr. Papka is that the level of buy-in from the firms is below expectation despite the benefits they would enjoy. "They get to enjoy free labour at government expense as government will pay the monthly stipends of the interns, they get to select the best interns to join their workforce and they get a cost-free opportunity to render their Corporate Social Responsibility." In addition to that, "the project is also planning other incentives like tax rebates for companies registered with the Project," he explained. He further said that as part of efforts to rev up the interest of such firms, jingles and TVCs have been put out to create awareness while a door-to-door has been initiated with firms. samley19: ... is it tru u cnt benefit frm bth chevron and agbamiIf detected, you can lose both or just one if you are lucky enough. |
OmolodMilkman93: bt unfortunately sir, its True,.. Most of us in Uniport were nt paidYou said "most"...the statement will be right only IF "NO ONE" was/has been paid (which I am also yet to confirm myself). |
infoscope: ...those that wrote last year weren't paid...What is the source of your information? Unconfirmed sources, I guess. There is no way a body as prestigious as CHEVRON will hold back disbursements (as long as tests were written). It has NEVER happened and I don't see it happening either. |
nuhu: Ours was schedule for 15 and 16 in sokoto, I went for the exams on 16. We were on the queue when the examiners complained that about 50 of us left can not write again due to the time constraint. We were asked to write our names on a list and come back on 18th when the COE students will be writing theirs too. Any similar experience frm any state? What do u think? There's no problem. They will collate your results appropriately (with those who wrote theirs on 17th) |
mayorall: Boss..longest time..you can apply sir.Well done Mayorall, you're doing a great job. Thumbs up. |
None of their (known) WARRI phone lines are going through (that's where the scholarship applications are being collated), so I decided to send them a mail. Let's hope for a prompt response. |

waxqkiu: pls,can you give exactly an inkling of how the aptitude test is like, hearing diff. stuffs GMAT,SAT,general paper....??More like the test types you listed. |
Darey_00: @olsey and all... When will they start contacting us? Or has anyone been invited?Keep an eye on your email and keep your phone line open. Its just 5 days after deadline, please be patient. |
Idacrux: @olsey,I just went through d last year winners,Is like total shortlisted randomly and also based on luck.A frnd of mine got it last yr because I saw his name.I can assure you it is NOT determined "randomly" or by "luck"...NO...it is strongly determined by performance (merit) and of course, more leniency for those from Oil producing communities. You can never tell, your friend may have put up a good performance in the test. With Total scholarship, an "above-average" performance can get you the award. |
Copied from: www.scholarship-nigeria.com/2013/04/olukoya-splashes-n40-million-on-first.html In continuation of his desire to reward academic excellence, the General Overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, MFM, Dr. Daniel Olukoya, weekend, splashed N40 million on members of the church who graduated with first class honours degree from different universities across the country. The event which is third in the series made the 77 graduates smile home with N 500,000 each. The previous first class graduates went home with a car each, but this time around, Dr. Olukoya settled for cash, against the background of the number of graduates, which rose from 15 last year to 77 this year. Besides, the graduates will have the opportunity of using the monetary gifts to pursue their higher degree programmes. The breakdown of the graduates showed that University of Lagos (UNILAG) top the list with 12 graduates which cut across various disciplines, followed by University of Ibadan with nine of such graduates while one is from Central University College, Accra, Ghana. Speaking at the occasion, Pastor Shade Olukoya, who presented the award praised the graduates for dedication to their academic work and serving God at the same time. According to her, the award was put in place to reward members of MFM who are dedicated to their academic work while also creating time to serve the Almighty God. Her words; “this is a reward for hard work, dedication to duty and above all, service to God and mankind”. The programme which took place at the Prayer City along Lagos-Ibadan Express way during the Power- Must-Change-Hands programme attracted people from different aspects of life. On hand to present the cash gift to the graduates was Prof. Akin Osibogun, Chief Medical Director, University of Lagos Teaching Hospital. CONGRATULATIONS!!! |
No news yet from SPDC. They will probably disburse it alongside 2013 Postgraduate applicants' I'll try to give them a call tomorrow to be sure of the situation. |
Darocksvip: @Olsey,pls was ur jamb score mre dan 270 wen u regista 4 total scholarship? It was less than 270 (though, I had a superb O'level result), but I know of people who had very average results and were likewise shortlisted. For TOTAL, the shortlisting criteria (for aptitude tests) are relatively very lenient. |

DMainMan: @olssey. Aw manyThe figure is usually about 1100+ (undergraduate and postgraduate) awardees yearly (according to FSB) If an average of 50 students write daily for 5 days (8-12th April for the three Southern regions and 15-19th April for three Northern regions) in each of the 36 state capitals and FCT (37), we have about (50 x 5 x 37 =) 9250 undergrate and postgraduate applicants writing nationwide. In summary, they should award about 1100 out of an estimated 9250 applicants nationwide. #Ceteris paribus |
DMainMan: at all. i heard it ia 10 people for each stateThat's NOT true. |
purplish: Loool! Its Kogi state...I didn't get it right shaLol. Not to worry. |
Walexyl: To the golry of God, I just finished my screening here in Abeokuta. The questions were simple but brain teaser in nature (logical). Questions cut across English (synonyms and antonyms), Maths (quatitative reasoning), bit of current affairs and test of computer knowledge. There were 35 questions in all under 45mins. We were 42 undergraduates in number that were screened today and abt 20 post graduates.Good to get a feedback. Since you did your best possible, just hope and pray. I wish you success bro. ![]() |
