Crime / Three Protesters Killed In Edo, Ondo, Passengers Stranded In Ogun, FCT, Others by olukiesy(m): 4:02am On Oct 17, 2020
READ FULL STORY

No fewer than three persons were feared killed in Edo and Ondo states when hoodlums attacked #EndSARS protesters demonstrating against police brutality in the country.

In Edo State, apart from the two persons killed when hoodlums attacked the protesters at Ring Road in Benin City, some others sustained varying degrees of gunshot injuries.

One of the deceased persons, identified as Ikpomwosa, sustained several machete cuts before he eventually died. The other person was said to have been taken away from the scene of the attack by friends.

The hoodlums, clad in red T-shirts, were said to have suddenly appeared with guns, cutlasses and other weapons to attack them.

Some of those who had gunshot injuries in the attack were rushed to the nearby Central Hospital, while the body of Ikpomwosa was conveyed in an ambulance and taken to the Government House.

However, the protesters later regrouped after the hoodlums had been chased away.

A 60-year-old protester, Victoria Nkechi, said she came out to support the youths in their protest for good governance.

In Ondo State, tragedy hit the protest in Akure, the state capital, on Thursday evening when a car rammed into the protesters, killing one person and injuring three others.

It was gathered that the incident, which happened in front of the governor’s office, involved a Toyota Camry with number plate, LND 778 GL, and two commercial motorcycles.

An eyewitness said the driver of the vehicle lost control of the car and hit the two motorcycles which hit the protesters. One of the victims was said to have died on the spot while others were rushed to the hospital.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Police Command, Mr Tee-Leo Ikoro, confirmed that the deceased was one of the #EndSARS protesters, noting that the driver was immediately arrested.

He added, “The family of the deceased have agreed to accept their fate and they have requested for the body for burial. So, they have settled the matter.”

Obaseki condemns attack on ENDSARS protesters

Meanwhile, the Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, who had earlier called for the protection of the protesters by the police, condemned the attack on the protesters by the hoodlums, noting that a thorough investigation would commence immediately to bring the culprits to justice.

The governor, in a statement, added, “I hereby call on the Edo State Police Command to provide adequate security for the protesters and ensure that no one is harassed in the course of exercising their rights.”

Also, the state Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, charged security agencies to fish out the killers of the #EndSARS protesters in the state within 24 hours.

Addressing the protesters at the Kings Square in Benin City, he said the government would not fold its arms and watch harm come the way of young people exercising their rights.

He added, “We are going to give him a state burial because the martyrs of this struggle must be remembered. He will be remembered for being part of this struggle. He is a martyr already and by the grace of God, he will never be forgotten.”

The Peoples Democratic Party in the state, in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Chris Nehikhare, also condemned the attack, saying the behaviour of the attackers was disheartening given that the protest was for their benefit. “Their ignorance is frightening and should be an embarrassment to their sponsors.”

In a peaceful procession to the Government House in Benin, some of the protesters carried a coffin with EndSARS written on it.

There were however fears that the protest might be hijacked by cultists with rival gangs threatening to descend on one another.

Protesters block Airport road in Abuja

The #EndSARS protesters on Friday defied the Federal Capital Territory minister’s directive banning protests in the FCT as they shut down the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Road, Abuja.

The mammoth crowd massed at the city gate causing a serious traffic gridlock on the busy highway, which was said to have prevented some travelers from accessing the airport on time to board their flights.

The FCT Security Committee chaired by the FCT Minister, Mohammed Bello, had stopped street rallies which he said violated the COVID-19 protocols. He also directed the security agencies to enforce the directive on the protests, which he said was affecting commercial and economic activities in the nation’s capital.

But the protesters ignored the directive, stating that the FCT Administration had no constitutional power to halt protests in the city.

The protesters were seen moving from the city gate towards the Central Business District where they continued the protest.

Motorists, commuters stranded in Ogun, FCT, others

Meanwhile, motorists and commuters in different parts of the country were stranded on Friday as the protesters blocked major roads.

At the Arepo-Magboro end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, the protesters, in their hundreds, carried various placards as they blocked the movement of vehicles on both sides of the busy expressway. Many motorists were stranded for hours.

Some of the placards read, ‘Carrying iPhone, laptop, and wearing dreadlocks is not a crime,’ ‘iPhone no be gun (meaning iPhone is not a gun,’ ‘End police brutality, stop killing our youths,’ and ‘Stop killing our dreams.’

Apart from seeking an end to brutality by the now disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigeria Police, the demonstrators also demanded good governance from the regime of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd).

Lamenting the gridlock, a commercial driver, Bashir Olola, said, “I have been stuck between Ibafo and Magboro for more than four hours. I have wasted the day already.”

Many other commuters lamented that they spent hours in traffic and that they might arrive at their destinations late.

Also, on the Abeokuta-Sagamu Road in Abeokuta, the protesters’ action brought vehicular movements to a standstill as motorists and commuters were trapped in the gridlock. Many motorists, commuters and workers were stuck in the traffic.

The protesters were armed with placards bearing different inscriptions like ‘Say No to Police Brutality’.

The protesting youths, who started gathering as early as 6am, took over some other parts of Abeokuta, the state capital, singing solidarity songs. Hip hop artist, Kizz Daniel and Yemi Shodimu, were among the celebrities that participated in the protest. Other locations affected by the protests were Sagamu, Sango-Ota and Ijebu-Ode.

The traffic situation compelled the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps to release a traffic advisory to motorists and commuters.

In Delta State, hundreds of protesters again stormed the streets of Ughelli, in Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state on Friday, barely one week after a policeman and an unidentified civilian were killed in their earlier protest that turned violent in the metropolis.

The protesters, who returned to the streets in a larger number, declared that their renewed action was in solidarity with other protesters across the country. Private security personnel were seen monitoring the gathering to prevent hoodlums from hijacking it.

In Calabar, the Cross River State capital, the protest continued for the fifth day on Friday with youths carrying various placards condemning police brutality.

The protesters, who had placards with various inscriptions, marched through major streets of Calabar such as Marian Road and Mary Slessor Avenue. The protest disrupted traffic on the roads as motorists had to look for alternative routes.

In Osogbo, the Osun State capital, protesters observed Jumaat service at the popular Olaiya Junction, Osogbo as the protest paralysed business activities across the state capital.

The protesters had blocked Olaiya Junction around 10am and prevented vehicular movement for several hours. Many commuters had to look for alternative routes to avoid the traffic jam. Gunshots were also heard among the protesters, as one of them holding a Dane gun shot into the air.

Politics / Edo Poll: We Are Relieved, But... (update Hubs Naija) by olukiesy(m): 5:57am On Sep 22, 2020
CONTRARY to widespread expectations, the just-concluded Edo State governorship election has come and gone successfully. The fire and brimstone we expected to fall from the skies did not happen.

The pre-election sabre-rattling, which peaked with the removal of the roof of the Edo State House of Assembly and gun violence around the palace of the Benin monarch, fizzled out into a generally-peaceful, free and fair election. For the second time since the November 19, 2017 re-election poll of Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State, the Edo governorship election ended with the will of the people prevailing and without bloodshed.

The simple reason for this was that President Muhammadu Buhari kept his word towards ensuring a free, fair and peaceful election. Whenever the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and the security agencies are made to carry out their constitutional mandates professionally, the outcome always gives reason for the people to celebrate.

We commend every stakeholder, especially the two frontline political parties – the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the all Progressives Congress, APC, for generally desisting from a pronounced degree of violence and electoral malfeasance. We are gratified that the feared clash between “governor’s incumbency power” and “the federal might” did not take place after all, despite the mobilisation of governors of both parties to Benin for the expected “battle royale”.

While we congratulate Governor Godwin Obaseki and expect him to be a servant to all Edo people, we also urge those who feel aggrieved to follow the due process of the law in seeking redress. The judiciary should also emulate the INEC and security agencies in ensuring that justice and the people’s will prevail. In particular, we commend our international partners, especially the United States and the United Kingdom, which have resorted to imposition of stiff sanctions on election riggers and promoters of violence through visa bans, asset seizures and possible prosecutions under international law.

This must have gone a long way in ensuring the peaceful outcome of the Edo governorship election. It probably also helped our government in sitting up and ensuring the right thing was done. We call on President Buhari to continue to ensure that all elections that will be conducted under the rest of his watch will be free, fair and transparent.

These include the forthcoming off-cycle Anambra, Ondo, Ekiti and Osun governorship elections as well as the 2023 general elections. At this juncture of his life and tenure, Buhari owes Nigeria’s democracy a shining legacy, being a beneficiary of a free, fair and peaceful election.

He should lead efforts to ensure that all residual legal and legislative requirements which will promote further INEC independence and the true will of the people are put in place before the next elections. To who much is given, much is expected.

A villager told the British Broadcasting Corporation, BBC, Hausa Service that the gunmen stormed the communities, shooting sporadically, as inhabitants ran into the bush to avoid being hit by bullets.

The community is now deserted. We all ran away in hundreds. They took us by surprise.

Immediately he picked the gun and threw it inside a maize farm nearby. The gunman regained consciousness and ran away.

‘’We never knew his colleagues were waiting in the bush. They, thereafter, came into our communities in large number and shot repeatedly. We ran away but they abducted over 40 villagers. Health / UPDATE HUBS NAIJA: Coronavirus Infections In Nigeria Exceed 57,000 by olukiesy(m): 4:38am On Sep 20, 2020
The death toll from the contagion is now 1,095, after three people succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours.

On Saturday, Nigeria recorded 189 new coronavirus infections, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 57,145.

Out of these, more than 48, 000 have recovered and discharged after treatment in the country’s 36 states and the federal capital, Abuja.

Only about 8,000 infections are still active in the country, one of the lowest in the past three months, an indication that the nation is heading for a plateau in the epidemiological curve.

The death toll from the contagion is now 1,095, after three people succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours.

This was disclosed by the NCDC, the agency heading Nigeria’s national response to the COVID-19 outbreak, the dangerous pneumonia-like disease that has spread to over 200 countries, infecting more than 30 million people.

Almost 950, 000 have died of the virus across the world.

According to the NCDC update, the 189 new cases were reported in the following 14 states:

Lagos - 70
Plateau - 37
FCT - 24
Kaduna - 19
Rivers - 12
Oyo - 5
Ogun - 4
Ebonyi - 3
Katsina - 3
Ondo - 3
Osun - 3
Imo - 2
Yobe - 2
Ekiti - 1
Nasarawa - 1

Almost half of the cases on Monday (70) were from Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial nerve that is also the country’s epicenter of the virus.

Over 18, 000 cases have been reported in Lagos alone.
Nigeria has been reporting cases below 300 in almost a month.
The country has also improved a bit in its testing regime. Almost 500, 000 of Nigeria’s 200 million people have been tested thus far.

Nigeria is the third most impacted country in Africa with South Africa recording the highest number of COVID-19 cases on the continent.

Politics / Edo Election: Card Readers Not Working, Oshiomhole Laments, UPDATE HUBS NAIJA by olukiesy(m): 8:39pm On Sep 19, 2020
A former Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, has lamented that card readers are not working at some polling units in Saturday’s Edo governorship election.

He said this after casting his vote at polling unit 01, Ward 10 in Uzairue northeast, Etsako West Local Government Area.

The former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, however, warned the Independent National Electoral Commission not to compromise.

Addressing journalists, he said, “Since 1999, this is the highest turnout that I have seen. Elderly women and men turned out impressively.

“The turnout showed that people have shown that they are ready for democracy. My only disappointment so far is that the machine is not working.

“The INEC officials have reported but they have not brought a new machine.

“This exercise is supposed to have a closing time. If they are doing this in my ward, it means that somebody wants to remove the number of voters here. But I have told them (voters) to stay here, they have a right to vote.

“Nobody should come here and be unable to vote because of INEC’s failure.

“I cannot believe that this is an ordinary error because before bringing the machine here, you should have tested it. I pray that INEC should be able to regularise them (the machines).”

At least 12 out of the 18 local government areas of Edo State will play a decisive role in Saturday’s (today) governorship poll as incumbent Governor Godwin Obaseki, who is the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, clashes with the leading opposition All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

Although 14 parties fielded candidates for the poll, observers have argued that the election would be a two-horse race between the PDP and the APC.

According to analysis by Saturday PUNCH, the 12 battleground local government areas are Egor, Ikpoba/Okha, Oredo, Ovia North-East, Ovia South-West and Uhunmwode.

Others are Akoko Edo, Owan West, Owan East, Etsako East, Etsako West and Etsako Central.

Six out of the 12 battleground LGAs are located in the Edo South Senatorial District where both the incumbent and the leading opposition candidate hail from.

Interestingly, the Edo South Senatorial District has the highest number of voters totalling 1,281,414 votes, according to the figures released by the Independent National Electoral Commission. This represents about 74 per cent of the entire voting populace which INEC put at 1,726,738.

Further findings revealed that the remaining six battleground LGAs are located in the Edo North Senatorial District where the immediate past Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, and the state deputy governor, Philip Shaibu, hail from. The deputy governorship candidate of the APC, Gani Audu, also hails from Edo North.

Gaming / Sony Apologizes For PS5 Preorders Mess, Promises More Stock Over ‘next Few Days’ by olukiesy(m): 8:02pm On Sep 19, 2020
Sony has apologized for PS5 preorders being a bit of a mess. “Let’s be honest: PS5 preorders could have been a lot smoother,” says Sony from the official PlayStation Twitter account. “We truly apologize for that.” Preorders for the new PS5 console began on Wednesday, a day earlier than Sony had said retailers would take orders. It led to a scramble as Walmart and others started randomly opening up their PS5 preorder slots. Some preorders even disappeared after around a minute.

Sony now says it will release more PS5 consoles for preorder “over the next few days,” promising that retailers will share more details. It’s not clear if these preorders will be delivered on launch day, and Sony is also promising “more PS5s will be available through the end of the year.”

Amazon also started warning customers yesterday that some of its PS5 preorders might arrive after launch day, most likely because the retailer doesn’t know exactly how many units it will receive.

Politics / Ondo 2020: Jegede Advises Citizens To Reject Violent Politicians With Votes- by olukiesy(m): 5:21am On Sep 19, 2020
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship Candidate in Ondo State, Mr Eyitayo Jegede, has appealed to his teeming supporters across the state not to allow unprovoked attacks from the ruling party to deter them from coming out to vote on Oct. 10.

Jegede disclosed this on Friday in Oba-Akoko in Akoko South-West Local Government area. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that PDP had earlier visited Oba-Akoko on Wednesday, Sept. 16, on its campaign tour before it was disrupted by hoodlums in the Oba community.

NAN also reports that no fewer than 15 vehicles in the motorcade of PDP were terribly damaged. The party flagbearer said the team returned to the community amidst a tumultuous crowd and advised residents in the community to disregard violent politicians and vote for his party in the Oct. 10 governorship election in the state.

“They have already heard the result of the election through mass rejection and they think the only straw they can hang on to is to unleash violence on the people. “But don’t be dismayed and don’t let them put you at home on election day. Come out and vote and reject them with your votes,” Jegede said.

Jegede also assured people of the area that if voted in as governor, the exorbitant tuition fees introduced in Ondo higher institutions would be cancelled, as education is the heritage of Ondo State. He also promised to open up rural communities through road infrastructure and provision of farm inputs to boost farm produce. Speaking during the rally, a former chairman of the PDP in Ondo State, Chief Clement Faboyede, condemned the continued attacks on PDP members by some political thugs. Faboyede said the party would not be deterred, realising how the people were determined for a change of government.

Also Speaking, an octogenarian community leader in Oba-Akoko, Chief Ezekiel Adeniyi, deplored how some politicians had often turned the town to a battleground “each time there is an election”.

“They feel that the best way to win our hearts is to intimidate us, but we are not fools; we know where we are going,” he said. He, however, commended Jegede’s maturity and show of affection for the masses, assuring that the community had resolved “to do the needful”.

Politics / El-rufai Signs New Law To Punish Rapists With Removal Of Fallopian Tubes by olukiesy(m): 5:24am On Sep 18, 2020
The law also includes the death penalty for convicted child rapists.

A new law to punish people convicted of rape with surgical castration and removal of Fallopian tubes, for male and female offenders respectively, has kicked into effect in Kaduna.
The state government announced on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 that Governor Nasir El-Rufai signed the State Penal Code (Amendment) Law 2020 on September 11.

The law amends the Penal Code Law (No.5) of Kaduna State, 2017 by substituting section 258 to include amendments that prescribe organ removal and death sentence for rapists of minors.
The previous law had carried a maximum penalty of 21 years imprisonment for the rape of an adult and life imprisonment for the rape of a child.
Rapists convicted of violating minors below the age of 14 will be punished with surgical castration or removal of Fallopian tubes, in addition to the death penalty, according to the amended sections.
Rapists convicted of the sexual assault of children will also be listed in the Sex Offenders Register to be published by the Attorney-General of the state.

A corroboration of a medical report shall be necessary in the trial of an accused child rapist, according to the new law.
The rape of anyone above the age of 14 will be punished with surgical castration or removal of Fallopian tubes, and a life imprisonment instead of a death sentence.
If a child is convicted of rape, according to the amendments, the court shall order as appropriate under the Children and Young Person Law Cap 26 Laws of Kaduna State 1991.

Governor El-Rufai praised members of the Kaduna State House of Assembly for passing the amendments.
He said the drastic penalties are required to help further protect children from a sexual assault.
Rape and other sex-related crimes have received a great amount of national attention this year following a string of high-profile cases all over the country.

In June, all 36 state governors resolved to declare a state of emergency on rape and other gender-based violence against women and children.

Health / COVID-19: Why Women Deserve More Attention - Uwandu-mordi, Update Hubs Naija by olukiesy(m): 10:56pm On Sep 15, 2020
The Founder of Impact HER Initiative, IHI, a non-governmental organisation, NGO, Mrs. Chioma Uwandu-Mordi, has said women deserved every empowerment they can get, as they bore the brunt of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mrs. Uwandu-Mordi spoke to newsmen, weekend, during a briefing on Impact HER Initiative’s programme, tagged “Gifted Hands During COVID-19”, that will train 50 women in arts and crafts, catering, soap making, make-up, gele tying, ankara and leather works.

Speaking on the six-week skills acquisition programme scheduled to run from September 21 to October 30, Uwandu-Mordi said: “Impact HER Initiative is for the psychological re-orientation of women and girls and its chief concern is to see that women are empowered, developed and financially independent.

“Given the novel coronavirus pandemic, women deserve all the empowerment they can get. They bore the brunt of the pandemic.”

Recounting the birth of IHI, she said her childhood experience of hawking with her mother and her siblings to put food on the table, made her pledge to do everything within her powers to ensure women and girls are safe and empowered to maximise their potentials.

Celebrities / Cardi B Files To Divorce Offset, Wants Custody Of Kulture - Update Hubs Naija by olukiesy(m): 10:33pm On Sep 15, 2020
Cardi B is apparently over her marriage to Offset -- she just filed for divorce ... TMZ has learned.

The rapper filed court docs in Georgia indicating she's seeking a dissolution of marriage. Cardi is listed as the plaintiff and Offset is listed as the defendant. She filed the paperwork on Tuesday.

There's also this ... according to the court docs, obtained by TMZ, Cardi is seeking primary physical custody as well as legal custody of their 2-year-old daughter, Kulture. She also wants Offset to pay child support -- unclear how much though at this point. No word on spousal support either, for now at least.

She also makes clear in her docs that they're currently separated, and "there are no prospects for a reconciliation."

Cardi is also adamant in the docs she wants Offset to be ordered to pay her legal expenses.

And, get this ... it doesn't sound like there's a prenup, because Cardi is asking for "an equitable division of all marital assets."...

Politics / UPDATE HUBS NAIJA: Stay Off Edo Governorship Election, HURIWA Warns Buhari by olukiesy(m): 11:20pm On Sep 14, 2020
The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has asked President Muhammadu Buhari not to interfere in the forthcoming Edo State governorship election

The rights group made the plea in a statement by its National Coordinator Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko.
The group said it was completely out of order for President Muhammadu Buhari to be seen as extremely concerned about the outcome of a state election when he is holding office on behalf of the entirety of Nigerians and not the President of All Progressives Congress.
The group reminded Buhari that he swore an Oath of office and is expected to be above board and must not be seen actively promoting a one-sided agenda.

HURIWA urged the President to be the champion of a pan Nigerian Agenda and ensure that there is electoral integrity, transparency and accountability.

“We have observed with shock and disappointment that the campaign council set up by the ALL progressively Congress headed by the governor of Kano State Abdullahi Ganduje flew into Benin, the Edo State capital on a presidential jet belonging to all of Nigeria. If this trending news report is anything to go by, then we absolutely condemn this reckless display of political rascality and flagrant abuse of power.

“We, in HURIWA view this naked show of reckless executive power manifested in the illegal use of the people’s public jet for a partisan affair such as conveying the campaign team of the APC to Benin City as reported which we believe is meant to tell the electoral umpire that the President’s mind is that the electoral process be manipulated in favour of the party that controls presidential power which incidentally is the appointing authority of the INEC.
”We hereby warn INEC to ensure that the governorship poll is free, fair, transparent and peaceful. INEC must not be intimidated by either the federally controlled security forces or should they out of intimidation already displayed by the fact that the presidential jet was deployed to convey the campaign team of APC, to then manipulate the electoral process. We want to caution INEC that any attempt to rig the poll may not augur well for the stability of Nigeria.

“We appeal to both the PDP and the APC as well as other political players participating in the poll to see the election as an opportunity for the good people of Edo State to democratically elect their freely chosen Governor.

There must be no interference from external persons be they governors, or President or former presidents.

INEC has failed on many occasions to deliver free and fair elections; Nigerians are waiting to see if the Edo election will be a great opportunity for the morally deprived INEC to redeem themselves from past misdeeds.

“We ask the security forces to stay objective and only work for the public good and not be used as agents by their commander in Chief to undermine the will of the Nigerians people."

”HURIWA wants the Edo State governorship poll to be a credible election. As stated by experts, we agree that inclusive elections provide equal opportunities for all eligible citizens to participate as voters in selecting their representatives and as candidates for election to government. Foreign Affairs / UPDATE HUBS: Russia,China, Iran Moving To Hack U.S. Election In 2020 - Microsoft by olukiesy(m): 12:32am On Sep 14, 2020
A Russian military hacking group that was caught meddling in the 2016 presidential race has shifted tactics ahead of the November election, Microsoft said Thursday.
Hackers in China and Iran have also stepped up efforts to obtain password information for people involved in the campaigns of President Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden, the computer giant said.

The Russian group which Microsoft calls Strontium, but which is also known by names including “Fancy Bear” and APT28 “launched credential harvesting attacks against tens of thousands of accounts at more than 200 organizations” between September 2019 and June 2020,” according to a blog post by the Microsoft Threat Intelligence Center.

More recently, the hackers “targeted 6,912 accounts belonging to 28 organizations” just between August 19 and Sept. 3, the MSTIC said. Those organizations, located in both the US and the UK, are “directly involved in political elections” and the hackers appear to be laying the groundwork for “future surveillance or intrusion operations,” the MSTIC said.

“None of these accounts were successfully compromised,” it added.

Fancy Bear has been implicated in Russia’s meddling in the 2016 election, with 12 military intelligence officers indicted for allegedly hacking the emails of the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton.

But unlike in 2016, when the Russian hackers “relied heavily upon spear phishing” which uses fraudulent emails to obtain confidential information the recent attacks involve “a different approach, namely, brute-force/password-spray tooling,” according to Microsoft.

Health / A Polio-free Country: Keep Immunization Up Bill Gates To Nigeria- UPDATE HUBS by olukiesy(m): 12:10am On Sep 14, 2020
Co-chair Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Mr. Bill Gates says despite the fact that the World Health Organization has certified Nigeria as Polio – free, the country must not relent in Immunization exercise on its children.

Gates made the remark during the Virtual Kano State Health System Strengthening Program meeting, in which the state governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Gnduje, the Chair, Dangote Foundation, Alh. Aliko Dangote, the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire and other key public health officials participated.

A statement by Governor Ganduje’s Director-General, Media and Public Relations, Ameen K. Yassar quoted Gates saying, “Our Polio work is not done, We still have the vaccine for Wild Polio and we need to maintain immunization in case Polio escapes from the two countries in Asia where it still exists,” he said.

According to the statement, “Mr. Gates advised that Kano needed to reinforce its Routine Immunization efforts, with the active participation of traditional leaders, so that the successes recorded in the previous anti-polio campaigns could be maintained.

“I am pleased to hear that the Kano State Task Force on immunization also includes Primary Health Care as its focus”, he stated, stressing that Primary Health Care program areas in the state should be strengthened as part of an effort to ensure community well being.

“He recalled that since 2012, the Kano state had not defaulted in contributing to the health basket fund, hoping the trend would be sustained for the success of the partnership.”

In his remarks, the Chairman, Dangote Foundation, Alh. Aliko Dangote explained that he was happy with the way the Ganduje administration handled the pandemic of COVID 19. “Kano has shown the world what it can do to respond to emergencies. The same way you and your team kept your energy going with Polio, I urge you to keep it going with your COVID 19 response,” he remarked.

Dangote assured that his foundation would continue to support the state government towards making its immunization and Primary Health Care systems more resilient.
On his part, Gov. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje said strengthening the healthcare delivery system in the state remained a priority of his administration.

“Kano state will also strive to scale up the strengthening of 2 – way referral linkages between primary and secondary health care facilities,” Governor Ganduje promised.

Celebrities / UPDATE HUBS: Evicted Lucy Reveals Why She Was Not In Any Relationship. by olukiesy(m): 5:22am On Sep 13, 2020
On Sunday, September 6, Lucy became the tenth housemate to be evicted from the Big Brother Naija Lockdown house.

Following her exit from the house, Lucy was welcomed by members of the media, to spill the tea, describe her experience in the house, and share her next move with her fans, courtesy Betway, headline sponsor of BBNaija Lockdown.

When asked about relationships in the house, she was hesitant to share her opinions, because according to her, she doesn’t “know what is on people’s mind”, and can only speak to what she sees. Halfway into the competition, Lucy and Praise became close. However, their relationship could not blossom, as Praise was evicted from the house, just a week into their deepened friendship. She however admits that she wasn’t keen on a relationship in the house, because she wouldn’t know “what is real, until we get out of the house, so as not to be used as a part of someone’s strategy.”

Lucy was asked about her many claims while in the house of not wanting to be in contact with any of the housemates once the competition is over. She confessed that those things were said, “in the heat of the moment”. She admitted to being hot tempered and saying things she didn’t mean a lot of times, but that she definitely looks forward to seeing her fellow housemates again.

She admits to the house being tough, because, “you don’t know what you’re doing, that’s right or wrong, and there’s no one to correct you”. Also living in a place that had so many rules took its toll on everyone. She says, “I need a holiday,” when asked about how she feels about leaving the house.

She also confessed to not being surprised by her eviction, saying “ “I was not surprised about my eviction. Some people saw me as a threat.” She’s however, rooting for Tricky Tee, who she describes as a “lucky guy”.

Music/Radio / Oluwaseyi Olufemi: I Have Always Loved To Be A Computer Guru by olukiesy(m): 3:59am On Sep 02, 2020
Dreams as a child

As a child, I have always wanted to be a computer guru. Since little I noticed I have this interest and passion in me to become a computer programmer. Well, during my kindergarten, lol, I wanted to be a doctor so I'd be able to treat the sick ones but as time went on, everything changed.

If Google, Facebook or Microsoft calls me, omo I go pack my load ni o. I watch a lot of tutorials on youtube and it grew my interest more in becoming a computer guru. Well, I love music too. I have always wanted to be a great musician too.

What I know is that whatever I find myself doing, I should do it very well.

I attended Zion International School as my primary school in Nigeria. My dad was a teacher then to what I can actually remember. And in 2011, I started my secondary education at Excel College in Nigeria too, JSS 1 to SS 3 where I studied sciences. And by 2017, I wrote my WAEC and thanks to God I made my papers.

The Best Moment

Uhm, I started shooting some videos in my room and I had interest in editing videos. I am not actually a camera person but for the sake of editing, I had to shoot a video by force, LMAO. It wasn't easy. But at that time, my interest in computer science and music grew stronger. In early June, I had to make a music and shot a video myself. I was using my Samsung S9, and I bought a tripod stand. I shot many takes. I never attended a shooting scene though but I just have interest in it. And the video came out so well.

My number one best moment was when I was in the cloud, I'm not gonna tell you about it. I will tell you in the next interview.
