Thou art invited to Nigeria's foremost Slam Poetry Competition, War Of Words Season 7.

Over 40 poets in 4 quarter finals, one semifinal and a Grand Final.

The main event (on stage performance of the finalists) is scheduled to hold over 6 weeks and will feature the 60 finalists in 4 quarterfinals, one semifinal and a Grand Final.

The 60 poets will be divided into 4 groups and the schedule of events will holds as follows:



4 QUARTER FINALS

The Quarter Final for Group 1 hold on Sunday September 9, 2018.

The Quarter Final for Group 2 hold on Sunday September 16, 2018.

The Quarter Final for Group 3 hold on Sunday September 23, 2018.

The Quarter Final for Group 4 hold on Sunday September 30, 2018.

The quarterfinal will have 3 rounds and six poets will advance from each group into the Semi Final making a total of 24 poets that will compete in the semi final. The top five poets automatically qualify from each group, while the sixth spot will be decided between the 6th and 7th placed poets via online voting on Twitter.





ONE SEMI FINAL

The Semi Final holds on Sunday October 14, 2018.

The 24 poets that qualify from the Quarter Finals will be divided into two groups and will “face-off” against one another in the Semifinal. One versus one, one round, one poem and only 12 poets advance to the Grand Final.





ONE GRAND FINAL

The Grand Final holds on Sunday October 28, 2018.

The 12 poets that qualify from the Semi Final will compete in 3 rounds to determine the winner.

The foremost Slam Poetry Competition in Nigeria, War Of Words, is back with Season 7.

The competition will feature 60 finalists in 4 quarterfinals, one semifinal and a Grand Final.

Up for grabs are:

N250,000 for the winner, N150,000 for the 1st runner up and N100,000 for the 2nd runner up.
There will be prizes for the top three poets at each of the 4 quarterfinals, i.e. 1st, 2nd and 3rd gets N50,000, N30,000 and N20,000 respectively.

There will be consolation prizes for other contestants/ poets.

The best poem/ poetry performance of the entire competition gets N50,000.

The competition is open to all Poets (within and outside Nigeria) whether or not they have performed at any War Of Words or WORD UP event.

Capacity Building in youths using Spoken Word Poetry as a tool and as a medium

War Of Words is an event aimed at promoting and showcasing new, unknown and upcoming performance poets. It is a platform that announces the little known talents to the world. War Of Words is a fast rising Slam Poetry competition that attracts poets from different part of Nigeria to compete on stage for a grand prize. It also serves as a way to select poets that will perform at “WORD UP,” (one of the foremost Spoken Word Poetry events in Nigeria that features the best Spoken Word Poets in Nigeria all on one stage).

We have successfully organized 6 editions of War Of Words from June 2013 to December 2017, and have had six different winners. The past winners are:

Titi Mabogunje (currently a 19 year old student of African Leadership Academy, South Africa.) War Of Words 1, Chika Jones Onwuasoanya (graduate of FUTO Owerri) War Of Words 2, Graciano Enwerem (OAP at Rhythm FM in Port Harcourt) War Of Words 3, Paul Word (Student of UNIBEN) War Of Words 4 and Ibukun Ajagbe (15 year old student) War Of Words 5.

Based on her participation in War Of Words Season 5, Ibukun was invited to perform in Switzerland in April 2016 by the Swiss Malaria Group.

In 2017, Wayne Samuel (a copy writer) won War Of Words 6, which was modified from a one day event into an event that involved two semifinals and one final and was held over 3 consecutive weekends.

This 2018 we have plans to stage a special expanded edition of the event, tagged War Of Words Season 7 #WarOfWords7 #WOWNaija. The event will involve Poets from all over Nigeria and other African countries coming on stage to compete against each other in what will be an epic battle of wits, wordplay and intellect. The standard and quality of the poets are guaranteed.

Nigeria biggest Slam Poetry Competition, War Of Words, is back with Season 6.

Up for grabs are:

N100,000 for the winner, N20,000 for the 1st runner up and N10,000 for the 2nd runner up.

The top three poets get to perform at the next edition of WORD UP alongside the best Spoken Word Poets in Nigeria and beyond.

War Of Words Africa is an International Poetry Slam Competition open to poets from all over Africa. War Of Words Africa Auditions held on Saturday and Sunday April 23 and 24, 2016.

The next round of the competition will involve finalists from the auditions going head to head over every week for 4 weeks.

War Of Words Africa Poetry Slam Competition - the preview

War Of Words Africa (#WOWAFRICA) is an international Poetry Slam Competition open to all poets of African descent. All African poets are eligible to enter for the competition whether or not the poets have won Poetry Slam Competition in the past organised by i2X Media Company Limited.

It is a competition that will bring together international poets from different walks of life to compete on the same stage. The auditions and main event will hold in Nigeria. The prizes are as follows:

1st Prize : N1 million (i.e. N500,000 cash and an all expenses paid trip to perform at an International Poetry Festival/ event in Europe).
2nd Prize: N300,000
3rd Prize: N200,000

There will be consolation prizes for the finalists.

The theme of #WOWAfrica (Poetry Slam Competition) will be released on March 1st, 2016. To enter for the competition you must:

Poetry slam is a movement, a philosophy, a form, a genre, a game, a community, an educational device, a career path, and a gimmick. It is a multi-faced creature that means many different things to many different people. At its simplest, slam is an oral poetry competition in which poets are expected to perform their own work in front of an audience. They are then scored on the quality of their writing and performance by judges…

The themes for the ROUND 1 of this 3rd edition of the online poetry slam competition are “Made of poetry” and “Words will work wonders.” This means all poets are to submit 2 spoken word poems each.
