Literature / Using Performance Poetry And Spoken Word To Honour God In Church by olulu(m): 3:52pm On Jan 18, 2012
Hallos, How you doing? Hope everything is going on great.

We are very passionate about writing, perfromance poetry and spoken word, and as a group, "CODE", we are currently seeking avenues to make Poetry and Spoken Word established as a medium of expression in praising and honoring God in Church.

Our performance of poetry and spoken word is at no cost to the Church, it is our own a of giving back and honouring God for the talent and gift that God has blessed us with it.

If you are interested, send us a mail at olulu4ever@gmail.com and/or call us on 08025070892.  You also check out some of our performances on http://www.youtube.com/user/olulu4eva.

Thank you and God bless.

Literature / Not My Idea by olulu(m): 9:55am On Jan 04, 2012
This poem is not my idea,
after all Islamic banking was not a certain governor's idea,
neither is a 6years single term agenda for elected rulers the Number one man's idea.

I come with a message of hope for u today,
worry not about fuel subsidy, or unemployment,
and fear not the boko haram or boko malu,
just eat cassava bread, it will solve all your problems.
But if u eat it, and all the problem have not disappeared,
please accuse me not of falsehood,
advertising cassava bread was not my idea,
I got it from the chief chef of the federation.

They say they will spend close to a billion on security,
yet they also say we should be prepared to live with the burden of destruction and insecurity.
People are shouting, and asking why such insensitivity?
But we fail to realize that protecting us was not their idea of security.

Boko Haram was busy bombing churches on Christmas day
and a certain man we are supposed to trust with our lives was dancing away,
and people are accusing him of being insensitive,
well, I don't blame him, after all, him becoming a ruler, was not his idea.

Fuel is now gold,
and owning a car is fast becoming a luxury,
yet they say removal of fuel subsidy is for our benefit,
and that it will lead to development.
But we have heard that story before,
and have come to know that doing things for the citizen's benefit, is never their idea.

There is unemployment and poverty in the land,
good roads are now a mirage,
and its abnormal to have regular electricity,
and to top it all, removal of subsidy increased the already high cost of living.
yet our so called leaders are busy lining their pockets with public funds,
claiming its for our collective good.
Well, I don't blame them,
after all, we voted them there,
and they are showing us that serving us is not their idea of leadership.

We should not continue to look and hope things will change,
we have to initiate the change,
for the elected ones are clueless, greedy, selfish and unwilling to help us,
and it's said, Heaven help those who help themselves.
This is all I have to say,
I will leave the rest for another day,
but please note,
this poem is also not my idea.

Poems For Review / Re: Rhymes by olulu(m): 2:01pm On Aug 30, 2011
meexteriox:

Wayback, Spiceyblue started this thread,
Back when we dared to tread,
Talking about the first generation RHYMERS,
Guys digging deep to unleash like Chileans MINERS,
I remember co-rhymers like Colors
She dropped rhymes and collected her honours,
I remeber Gamine, Princesa, Angel empy, Aslan333,
I remember Opi-Ororo, Jkpretty, Cool joe, Stillwater n BTT,
I remember ACAN, Olulu, My God, Lekana, where are you?
Now i'm beginning to feel kinda blue,

We all dropped off, but the thread still lingers,
Cbase, Nize, Ofala, Candide, Cayon, Oreshade all came with new fingers,
I duff my hat for y'all,
You stood your ground for our fall,
Rhyming is my business,
Going sabbatical couldn't cure the sickness,
I'm back to join the queue,
Y'all that left should take the cue.

I can never get tired of playing with words,
Or have u ever seen a samurai without his sword?
At any given chance,
i kiss words and make them dance.
so like gold to a goldsmith,
i make u call me olulu the wordsmith.
but don't wanna blow my trumpet,
after all I'm God's puppet.
This is just a little line for poetic minds,
love it and smell it, like a fart from your behind. shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked

Well, thank God that good writers like u don't start, so they never get to shine cos of the fear of fear. lipsrsealed
It gives room for bad writers to start and shine cos they have no fear for fear. grin grin

For me, only one rule works, just do it.

I use to write only peoms,
now I have my own magazine (F-FACTOR Magazine)
and I also perform poetry/ spoken words on stage,
all because I just started, and I started based on these facts
1. that I can only get better in what I do consistently,
2. criticisms and yabs serve as a motivating factor,
3. Every failure is a lesson on how not to do it that way again.
4. Not everybody will like u, but until u start u will never know those that will like u

RSA:

An elderly lady was standing at the railing of the cruise ship holding her hat tight so that it would not blow away in the wind.

A gentleman approached her and said

"Pardon me, madam,
I do not intend to be forward but did you know that your dress is blowing up in this high wind?"

"Yes, I know," said the lady. I need both my hands to hold onto this hat."

"But madam, you must know that you are not wearing any panties and your privates are exposed!" said the gentleman in earnest.

The woman looked down, then back up at the man and replied, "Sir, anything you see down there is 75 years old.

“I just bought this hat yesterday!"

VERY SIMPLE, JUST START !!!! grin grin grin grin
ok, maybe not dat simple, but the key thing is, KNOW WHAT U WANT.
cos that will go a long way to determine how long u will last.
me and my friends started F-Factor Magazine early this year, and we ahve done 3 editions already
http://f-factormagazine..com/
and believe me, its not a feat for d faint hearted.

first, ask urself dis questions,
what kind of mag?
who are the target audience?
where are they?
why would they buy my mag?
what make my mag different from the others?
what is the unique selling point of my mag?

u need capital (500k and above) to ensure u can do eseveral ditions pending the time u will get paid adverts,
u need contributors that will agree to write for free for u (pending when u can start to pay dem), u can try getting family members, friends, friends' of friends, colleagues, even strangers online, cos some people just want to express demself with no immediate monetary reward.
u need a good graphic artist,
u need a cartoonist (but that depends on your content).
u need a good printer, in fact, a very good printer, cos the quality of ur work is dependent on the quality of ur printer.

if u need more info or advice, holla , grin grin grin grin grin grin

u can start with what u have, u might never have all what u need to start. and the more u wait d more harder it gets.
3 things u need to start a business
1. idea
2. opportunity
3. money

most times u have 2 out of 3, so maximize what u ahev and use it to get what u don't have that u need.

to start a mag biz, u need like N5 million to N10 million, but do u have that with u? well, if u do, u probably won't be asking this queation.

i recently started F-FACTOR Magazine with some of my friends, and we started with N1 million or less sef, and our 3rd edition is due out by 1st week in August 2010. Though no income yet, but we are ready for the long haul, no matter what it takes.
b4 u even start at all, u need to ask yourself,

are u in it strictly for the money? or for the love of what u do?
